    A Bob Jones Sermon
Overall enjoyable but I am a born again Christian and understand where all of this was coming from. I don't think many non-Christians would be able to get past all of the mini-sermons within the so-called conversations or thought lives of the characters. I felt as if I was being preached to almost the entire book. Sort of like having to listen to 50 verses of Just As I Am until someone finally goes to the alter just to get it to stop. I did like how it emphasized God's grace and the fact that ALL have sinnned , and that no sin is too great for God's grace and forgiveness.
    Mind Numbing!
It was a mind numbing listen with the most uninteresting, extraneous minutiae. The characters were boring and unlikable. As hard as I tried, I could not drum up any feeling but faint distaste for the main character. This writer throws any and everything into the story. Never mind that most of the details add nothing to the storyline. It was a waste of a credit and believe me I am not an overly picky reader - I like lots of different genres. Although it felt like torture, I listened to the entire book. I'm like that - I can't waste money. But please skip over this book and go for something like "Redeeming Love "by Francine Rivers. That's a story with depth, emotion and spirituality.
Another Great Book by this Author
This book is also an incredible book. Jamie Langston Turner has a wonderful way of capturing your interest almost immediately and even though you can hardly wait to find out what is going to happen, you hate for the book to end. You won't be disappointed in this book.
    A certain Style
Jamie has a certain style of writing; and you either like it or you don't. This is not my favorite book by her; but it was nice. Jamie is very "wordy" and not a lot of action. I enjoy her a lot, because I like the various twists and turns the character's thought processes take. It has quite a cute "fairy tale" ending. Of course, it's considered an "inspirational novel" in that it is guided by the teachings of Jesus and how they can shape your life. If you're ok with that, and enjoy wordy thought processes; give it a listen.
    Great story
This was a great story with complex characters who deal with their past, and change with the help of God and people who love them. I connected so much with this novel that it was scary. I only wish their was a part two!

    "Envy, or Yiddish in America"
Ostrover the Story Teller is the only Yiddish writer in America whose work is regularly translated and published. Edelshtein the Poet seethes with jealousy. If he, Edelshtein, had a translator, he'd be famous too! Tongueless in America, imprisoned in Yiddish, Edelshtein plots and yearns and staggers through the snows of Manhattan, looking for a translator to save him from his fate.

Envy is one of the great American short novels
In 'Envy, or Yiddish in America' Ozick tells the story of a world, the world of those immigrant poets and writers in Yiddish who struggled to make a name in the New World and got nowhere. Against them is her main character, the one Yiddish writer who succeeds in an unbelievable way and whose works conquer America. This leading character is modeled obviously on the great I.B. Singer . In the story the other writers call him 'The Chazir ' or pig , not only because of his non- religious life style but obviously because he takes all the honors and rewards for himself. Ozick captures the language of this world, and its humor , the angry impossible humor of the Yiddish language itself. She writes with feeling of these frustrated difficult characters. This work I believe will be specially loved by writers but my guess is anyone who truly loves ' real literature' will find much pleasure in reading this work.

    Loved it!
This book is part of a series celebrating women during WW II. The books have exciting plots (including many subplots) and well developed characters you can't help but get attached to. I definitely recommend reading the series in order. While each book can stand on its own, reading them in order helps you understand the characters and their motivations better. The narrator does a great job conveying the different characters and situations. I strongly recommend this entire series to anyone interested in historical fiction or strong women characters!

    At the Scent of Water
I gladly submit a review for this book. I loved this story and the characters. I have to say I cried some cleansing tears. I was caught up in the first words and willingly followed along to the last. I'm sure reading the book would have touched me but the narrator made it even better.
Thank you Linda. Can't wait til the next book.
    One of my audible favorites
This is one of the best books of adult Christian fiction I've read in many years. After I read/inhaled it the first time, I bought this audio version and over the past few years have listened to it twice. The writing is rich and the narration a great fit.
I live near the area where the story is supposed to have taken place. Linda Nichols captured the setting truly and beautifully.
Great story of love, loss and faith
I loved the story and plot. The only think I didn't like about the audiobook was that I could hear the narrator make funny noises, like snatching his mouth or something. It almost sounded like his dentures were coming loose. (I have no idea if he wear dentures)
Too much "fluff" but overall a good story
This was a good story, but the author got caught up in too many details and wandering around a bit. She could have left out a couple of hours of listening time and it would have been better. I love long books, but get bored when the story rambles.
    very gloomy & depressing
This moody book is a tapestry (nay, wet blanket) woven of grief, gloom and gospel. I could only take 3 hours of it before quitting. I'm hoping it has an uplifting ending - but I'll never know.

    Great Read!
Another great Christian fiction. The author explores new technology, and scary future possibilities. Very intriguing. Couldn't put it down. Religion was not the focus, just a reality in the character's lives. Well done. Wish it could have been longer.
    technology meets the afterlife
What happens when we try to use technology to share the experience of someone who dies and "crosses over"? This aspect involves some interesting imagery, but the story is really more of a suspense about uncovering a scandal involving killing people and using their body parts in transplants. Also involved and addressed heavily are issues of love, truth, and forgiveness. All in all, it is a pretty good book...
    Phenominon book
this book is good, especially with the other three. They almost have to be read or listened to in order to get the full meaning of each book. But very good, this book made me want to hurry to the next book, so I wouldn't miss anything.
    Preachy, Preachy, Preachy
Way too much preachiness. The characters had to repeat almost every statement...sometimes with slight stutters. That little artifice grew old fast. The Hero came across as "namby-pamby" rather than sensitive and loving. I really felt kind of sorry for his son. Poor whiney kid needed his dad and was consistently ignored throughout. He'll probably grow up to be a seriel killer. Gita was incredibly naive and unbelievable. The author ineptly diguised the sermons that flowed unending from her lips as "truth". The book could have been very interesting had the author not kept continuously beating me about the head and shoulders with the metaphoric religious angle iron. Overall a ho-hum listen.
    Not so much, really.
I found the description very misleading, as this turned out to be not much more than a Christian parable. Once I looked at his other books, I probably could have guessed that, though. Aside from flatly drawn characters that border on genuinely stupid, he also has a bit of a pronoun problem: "He walked up to a door. He wiped his face and opened it." If you want a "Ain't God great?" story, go ahead and listen, but "gut-wrenching"? Not so much.

Interesting, but written from another period
I did not find this book had the pacing or interest holding ability that In His Steps, the previous work contained. At times it tended to drag and the accents of the characters were distracting rather then helpfull. It was apparent that the current focus at the time of it's writing was alcohol abuse, the abuse of the workers by the wealthy and the need not to criticize church authority. Much in the mode of the Billy Sunday era. The book in my opinion is not as relevant to this decades problems and current view of what Jesus would do. This said, it is still worth hearing to gain a perspective of the writers thoughts in the time it was written.
    Insightful
I found this story of Jesus inspiring and for me life changing. Charles Sheldon presents us with so much insight into the work of Jesus here on earth. Wonderful presentation.
Interesting, but somewhat weak in progression.
The concept was good, and interesting but it progressed rather slowly and in my opinion could have taken on stronger character throughout. Over all it is well worth listening for anyone who will think it thru.

    Not (just) for Christians
I really like the character of Grace and the straightforward way she tells the story of her bizarre (to me) life in a Christian Cult. More than about any particular religion, it is about how are lives are shaped by the beliefs of those around us.
    loved it
I read this book a couple of monthes ago but I just can't get it of my mind. I feel as though I know the families envolved personally. The book was great and brought to life by Christina Moore, I would recomend this to everyone. 2 thumbs up
    a great story teller
this story is not for young children adult situations leaves the judgement of the ending up to the reader very human story not typical
    Unusual, unhappy character portrayal.
Florida Grace is the eleventh child of a snake handling, revival preacher. Her mother, (her fathers third wife) has a loving spirit while her father is a bit too busy to pay much attention to the younguns. Grace feels out of step for most of her young life. While her parents are busy ministering she is partially raised by a warm, neighbor family.
While Grace is a young teen, an older teen boy shows up claiming a connection with her father. He wrangles a spot in the household and uses his charm to twist his relationship with Grace and others. When Graces mother dies, her father takes Grace and sets out on the road to continue his preaching. After a time Grace is abandoned and ends up taken in by the churchs strict pastor. The pastor lives with an equally strict and dour sister who isnt thrilled to have Grace become part of the family.
Live brings some moments of joy to Grace but more times of trouble, confusion and heartache. Some of the further troubles are brought about by Graces own actions which ultimately bring her full circle to her childhood home where she must face herself and the God who has long pursued her.
The story setting is bleak, although the history is eccentrically fascinating. I was glad that Grace is a strong character, at times even vibrant through her struggles. I felt sorrow at the failings in her childhood and in her adult life. I could understand her anger and bitterness and resistance to a God whose truths were so twisted by her father and others close to him.
The major tone of the story is hopelessness. I am not a fan of depressing, family dramas. The blurb gave me hope that there was a revelation in Graces story. I trudged through the sadness looking and hoping for the light. The revelation doesnt come until the very end and I was disappointed by what I found to be a very weak concluding scene.
This is well written with a wonderful depth of description and emotion. Still, I cant say that I enjoyed the story. It is not really a Christian novel but more an expose of a sad, twisted history of a small religious sect.

    Pulp Christian fiction
Well, this book was written to the level of the lowest denominator of reader. It had potential, starting with a great subject. Of course, this is a fictionalization of what the end times prophesied in the NT Bible will be like. Moreover, it is a portrayal held by a portion of Christians, not at all an ecumenical in scope. Of these prophesies, this is just one amongst a plethora of interpretations. This is one mans fictionalized, fleshed out story for the common masses. It is not great or even good literature. It's just entertaining enough for readers who have the attention span of typical modern Americans. For any serious reader, it will be a BORE! If you are interested in pulp Bible prophesies, this is the book series for you.
Fun if you accept it for what it is...
...which is a rather poor attempt at fiction, with characters you don't care about, interspersed with sermons. In time this could be a historical document of a particular brand of fundamentalist theology. Anyway, it's utter rubbish, but the one redeeming feature is the narrator. Struggling to bring the book alive, his tone is immensely serious, and he manages to out-do Dick Van Dyke in the 'worst cockney accent attempted by an American' category (the taxi driver).
Not sure I'm happy I've wasted my book allowance on this, but probably worth listenting to just so you know what the whole 'left behind' experience is about.
    Entertaining, thought provoking, controversial
I will try and actually review the book, as opposed to providing my interpretation of the author's brand of Christianity.
It is not the best written book. The prose is interesting enough, but a little heavy handed at times. It is, however, thought provoking to be sure.
It is clear that the authors are "born-again." This is only a problem so much as knowing that Michael Moore is a "Marxist-Liberal". Since you know that going in, if you are open-minded, you will enjoy the book(s) that much more.
If you are at all interested in the book of "Revelations" from the New Testament, then these fictionalized accounts of the predicted end-times may spawn further, more tangible, investigations. These books on their own should be considered nothing more than entertainment -- which many, including myself, have found them to be.
Bottom Line: Mediocre writing aside, these books might get you thinking, might make you mad, may make you want to do further investigation, may even have you question your relationship to your creator.... I think these things are some attributes of the best of all books -- written well or not.
    Very very thought provoking
This was the best combination of suspense thriller, action novel, love story, and Christian testimonial I've ever read! Great spin and very inspiring. A must-read for true believers or anyone who is interested in biblical prophecy and how it all might unfold.
    Should have been Left Behind
Simple, Predictable, Lacked imagination and development of non christian explanations of the rapture.
