The MacNachton series is one of my favourites but I think that ms Howell started to use the same plot a little to much. That is why I give only 3 stars. After the third book of the series, most of the stories are about a MacNachton that find some woman hoe is in trouble and are injured by trying to do the rescue.

Also what does keep annoying me is that she not get the relationship between the MacNachtons always right. In this book, Gibbon tells the tale of what happened with Heming, and said that he is his cousin. In Highland Thirst, the book where this story came from, Heming is the son of Jankin and Efrica, and thus his brother.

Hannah Howell at her Best

Highland Beast is a typical PNR anthology with its ups and downs. It starts out with a bang in the form of The Beast Within by Hannah Howell. It is by far my favorite of the novellas. It is possibly my favorite of all of Howell's Highland Vampire tales. Gybbon is a captivating hero and Alice is one of the best leading ladies in the series. I really liked the way their relationship developed, particularly how Howell tackled the issue of Alice's rape and how it affected her relationship with Gybbon. It was well written, and even though it is a novella the author did not cut many corners. The pacing was just right. For me, the price of the book was definitely worth it just for that story alone. The Vampire Hunter by Heather Grothaus seemed to be the weakest of the stories. The premise was good and the leading lady, Beatrix, was strong and likeable. I just could not get past my dislike for the hero. Alder the White was not likeable, in fact I could not care for him at all for most of the story, and by the time he changes his ways it is almost too late. The novella itself seems poorly paced.

Poor reader ruins good read.

Shelly Laurenston has a fine pen for dialogue, and a talent for developing fun, lovable characters. What a shame to ruin this with a reader who has no differentiation between characters and the worst excuse for a southern accent ever.

not really, maybe in ebook. the laurenston story was the only one I read and it was not her usual style, which I really like, but it was still OK. I don't regret the story, only the narrator

The stories are good. I didn't realize I already had this one on Kindle. After hearing them I remembered them. I liked them a lot better in print.

Would you be willing to try another one of Lucinda Gaineys performances?

no not really. She reads very clearly but it's choppy. I didn't realize she was trying to use an Irish accent at first in the second book. She miss pronounces a lot of the Cajun words in the third book and her Cajun accent is as bad as her Irish one.

I would put her more with a proper English book. Maybe even a kids book. There are just too many pauses for me to follow well. It's almost like a kiddie roller coaster. Up and down with lots of pauses but never too high or too low.

Good series

Laurenston shows her talent for writing intriguing, funny, paranormal romance stories that leaves the reader wanting more. Great story and awesome narration.

Bad Narrator And Bad Story

First - the narrator makes it sound like the lead character is a old maid who shouldn't be in this story at all. Sorry but I just can't make stories like these work when I think of the lead as a 40+ year-old.

Second - why did the stories leave the Eastern European them? The vampires being Scottish made no sense. Plus, how much additional lore did the author fit into this book that I feel like hasn't come up in past ones. I also liked how previously every story linked slightly together with one or two characters but this book comes from left field and didn't feel like it fit.

Overall, I'm not sure I'll be going on to the next since it seems a risk now.

The formula is getting a little boring

Would you be willing to try another book from Katie MacAlister? Why or why not?

I'm taking a break from MacAlister for a while. She finds a formula and goes with it, but after a few iterations of the formula it gets a little boring. I also really struggle with her "falling in love in a week" theme in every single book. Sure, they are supernatural beings and completely unrealistic, but even that fast of a romance is unrealistic.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I have heard this lady read other books and I need to remember that she sounds like she is holding her nose. It's not the best.

A great thriller start to finish! Eyre perfect!

The original book was a splendid, fun, suspenseful read with an amazing female lead. This was even better as audio!

Justine Eyre is perfect voice for the exotic deadly Eden. This is BC Showalter (before she got born again), so its fun, exciting and passionate,without being too lora leigh. This is a loosely related book to the alien huntress series which is fun, delightful with wickedly deadly femme fatales and fun mockery of various stereotypes. Lucius is the link with the series if I remember correctly, but you definitely won't miss anything by treating yourself to this first. A key character for other books later in the series makes an entrance in this book and it is such a testimony to Showalter's originality and skill that she can make a guy who "collects" women at slave auctions on other planets turn out to be such a charmer here and hero later on!

Get the paper backs of the series until more come out on audio. I rate them up there with the night huntress series and Lora Adrians Breed series. Only a little lighter and more fun :)

Shifters Unbound!!! Yes!!! Yes!!! Yes!!!

Ok.. we all know I love love love me some Shifters Unbound! This has to be one of the best paranormal romances out there... Right up there with the Nightwalker Series.

This is Spike's story... Remember Spike from book 1? He was Fergus' tracker, then after Liam killed Fergus, Liam took in Spike's family and made Spike his tracker. Spike pops up in all the books some way or another, but this was great to get a look into Spikes world.

I thought Spike would be the bad to the bone type of guy, but he was just so sweet in the things that he did for his grandmother and his little cub. I love the female character as well. The whole thing, I just loved the whole thing. This book falls after Eric and Ione's story, but takes place in the Austin Shifter town. I can't wait to listen to another .5 book in this shifter world. The next one will be about the wolf shifter who never gets the gyrl! Lol...

Narration was just amazing. Perfect!

This is a buy or credit. You won't be disappointed. If you don't have this series... then get it and enjoy!

IT'S SHORT YES, BUT IT'S OH SOOOO SWEET

You may say "outch" at the price for a 4h 30m listen but if you're a fan of the Shifters Unbound series please don't be put off as JA packs a hell of a lot into this short listen.

It's filled with drama, tension, fun, sexual chemistry, romance, heat and it's an emotional ride for Spike as we, the silent onlookers, bear witness to the many events that he has to deal with - joy at finding out he's a Father, tenderness as he learns to cope with an unruly 4 yr old cub, sadness at the loss of the cub's Mother, turmoil at claiming a mate that's not sure about her feelings, anger at events that unfolds (I'm not giving anything away) and eventually happiness as he finally finds love (oh all right I just did give a bit away - but you know how they always end anyway and we all want the HEA ending don't we).

Worth a credit? I didn't hesitate as I love the series and anything JA writes - so that's a YES from me.

Awesome read!!!

Dissappointing

I was very disappointed with this novella. I've read Kerrelyn Sparks before (one of my favorite authors) and her story wasn't good at all it felt forced and rushed and just plain sucked (pardon the pun!). I forced myself to get through it but hated it. Her secondary character from her series Lady Pamela, whom this novella was for deserved a much better story. I didn't like the author Pamela Palmer's story at all. I felt like she just pulled it from part of a book she was writing and slapped it in here. It was hard to get through. I just skimmed over it as it wasn't all that interesting. Amanda Arista's had some promise but again being a novella it felt choppy and like she was trying to squeeze a full story in a novella size book. There was no conclusion to her novella it read like a short preview of a story to come. Kim Falconers story wasn't all that bad an original idea of vampires as mermaids or sirens. Had potential but again felt like a draft of a potential longer story. On a brighter note I happened to catch Amanda Arista's full books on Amazon tried a sample and loved the book so I bought all 3 in the series. Het novella now makes more sense as one character was in there and some of her terminology for her supernatural world that didn't make sense then while reading the novella now makes sense. However, she could have explained better in the novella for those of us that hadn't yet read her series. I'm frankly off reading novellas as I'm disappointed every time with the rushed, forced effort from authors I know can do much better. It seems they are writing novellas for writing a novellas sake perhaps at their editors/publishing companies instructions to try make more money. Novellas are meant to be short stories. Not written to be crammed rough drafts of potential stories. I feel cheated as it feels like the authors made no real effort for the novellas. They wrote them for the sake of writing one and that's just wrong since they are good writers that could have given us better stories that we know they are capable of doing. Next time if you know the story needs to be longer save it for a full book and work on it longer.

Lovable Characters, Enjoyable Read.

I liked this book. But it dragged a lot of the time and nothing much happened apart from Quinn finding the other world after following William. Becoming a friend of his family. And helping them solve a mystery which did not seem much like a mystery at all. A lot of unnecessary details, nothing exciting happened. But I'm still gonna read the next book cause I wanna see what happens next.

Good thing is the characters are very much lovable. I enjoyed reading about their lives. And I admit the fact that people in the other world appreciated the true meaning of family, and that children are truly a blessing did help earn this books some points from me. I'm all about family.

P.S. After finishing the fourth book which was extremely disappointing I decided not to finish the rest of the series.

Great start but needing more spark

Seeds of Discovery is a cute and magical introduction of the first book in the Dusk Gate Chronicles. There was a lot of mystery as the lead character discovers a world beyond her world.

Seeds of Discovery follows Quinn Robins a young high school girl who takes on a lot of responsibility. After an accident one stormy night, she becomes curious of her fellow classmate William when he disappears from the scene. Her curiosity takes over and she follows William into another world and finds out why William has always been so secretive.

Quinn at the beginning you can already tell is a smart, responsible and well-rounded young girl. I liked how she was always helping her mother out and really had a strong relationship with her siblings. On the other hand I thought she made some questionable actions throughout the story. First there is a scene in the beginning where she sees a car pulled off the road, after she thought she almost hit someone. She leaves her younger sister in the car to check it out. As a younger sister my mother would of screamed at my older sister if she left me alone in the car to check out a strange car. Another was how curious she became of William after one encounter, almost obsessive. I didnât quite understand the need to find out more about him.

This Book was a pleasant surprise

i was not sure if I would like this book based on the reviews to it. But this was a very enjoyable book; I like the reader and the story line very engaging. To think I may have missed this book because of the reviews. If you like paranormal romances take a chance on this one.

Is this a book or a college lecture?

What disappointed you about When Darkness Comes?

Well I only made it halfway through this book before I finally gave up and am calling audible today to get my credit back. The narration was terrible. I feel bad for the author cuz the book has potential but when read by Rapson the cute quirky humor just sounded well cheesy. Her voice was monotone to where I had a hard time distinguishing between the two main characters. This is my 1st review and I have listen to several hundred books. I just wanted to warn you to save your credit. I do think the print version would be worth the time because there is a good story here. But the narrator just ruined it for me.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Arika Rapson?

I can think of atleast 10.

Good start to a new paranormal series filled with all sorts of supernatural creatures - vampires, zombies, wizards, witches, demons and magic.

What a yummy vampire he is and to quote Abby - handsome with black biker boots, black jeans, black silk shirt, big muscles bad boy Dante was quite simply sex on legs (and I agree) along with tender, thoughtful, kind and besotted with Abby. The h/h were supernaturally hooked up nearly from the start and they finally went from being pursued to being the persuers when they decided to take their fate in their own hands. Along the way the pair meet different entities, had a few near misses, became closer and then, early in the book, they became lovers.

It was a slight 'Mills & Boon' type listen - nothing was ever too dark, too violent, too evil, too exciting, too sexy (well you get the picture) so if you like your vamp stories on the dark side this may disappoint you. But don't get me wrong, it was still a very enjoyable listen.

Worth a credit? Yes and I'm looking forward to the next instalment as this book was written in 2007 and the series is up to book 13 now so I hope Audible will continue to add this series to it's impressive library.

Not the Lover I would have hoped for.

A mediocre book, I couldn't really get into the story, it was a bit slow and didn't keep my attention well. There wasn't much build up for the characters either.

This book is about Orpheus and his goal is to get his brother back from the horrific Hell like underworld. Orpheus is a dark Gorgeous misunderstood Eternal Guardian Hero. He falls hard for Skyla, she is a sexy goddess Siren that would bring any man to his knees - but Orpheus is the only one she can every truly want. Actually, she is supposed to kill him but as is the way in such captivating stories they have an undeniable attraction for each other. Elisabeth Naughton writes body trembling Sex scenes, this book is loaded down with Orpheus/ Skyla's passion for each other and lot's of very Yummy Sex.... I Must mention that Elizabeth Wiley's narration is brilliant as always and extremely talented with her many different voices.

Series keeps getting better. As each character has his revelation, can't wait for next one.

From Zero to Hero in no time flat.

Good, but so far this one is my least favorite. Full of adventure and romance I'm glad I found this series. But admittedly this series is peculiar in the way that while it is not my favorite book or even series there is something about it that keeps bringing me back for more. Orpheus turns out to be a true hero and saves his brother which I loved. In the meantime he finds love and forgiveness along the way. I am anticipating Griffins book and can't wait to find out what happens to him. This is the same narrator as the rest of the series and normally I like her, but I didn't like the voice she gave for Orpheus it was too smarmy for my taste. I used the whispersync program to get this less than a credit and it was well worth it.

Orpheus & Skylar entertain but Series still lacks

Seriously, this series is so full of holes it could be swiss cheese...but something keeps me going on. I don't understand but I am being entertained or I wouldn't be thinking so hard about stuff. The narrator is basically the same so if you have liked her so far, you still will enjoy her.
