A rescue mission of epic proportions begins. Guiding the original de Wolfe Pack on this task into deadly enemy territory is a lady warrior known as Ghislaine of Mercia. The sister of the man who kidnapped Gaetan's knight, her loyalties are torn. Wary of the big Norman knight with the fierce manner, her attraction to Gaetan is nonetheless undeniable. Loved it. The Narrator did an excellent job. He sounded like a room of people.
    simply fantastic!
When I started the book I was not sure if I can keep up with all the names and characters especially since they were all similar and I am bad with names. However, once the first ten minutes had passed the main story began and it was extremely well written and imaginative. Although a long story I did not want it to end when it eventually did. The heroine's character was a bit unbelievable and head strong for the time period but I tried to overlook that fact. The nickname "little mouse" given to her by De Wolfe was so adorable and although the heroine's character was unbelievable, the hero's was superbly written as it showed the both sides of his character. The rough and merciless and the kind, loving and protective side.
The narrator was good and with as many characters involved in the storyline he tried to give each it's own voice however some were not as good especially the heroine's. I also was not sure why there were Scott and Italian accents but regardless the hero's voice was masculine and deep and sexy and overall wonderful.
Do not hesitate to buy this book!!!
Decent stiry but terrible voice for the female character
This narrator makes women sounds like high pitched witches, or dumb! Even with a bit if a lisp at times.
41/2 stars for being a romance with little
    Romance
This is A well written, well narrated, interesting historical tale. I enjoyed it so much that I listened to it straight through ; couldn't even stop listening to go to sleep. My only complaint is the classification as a romance. There is a small part of the story that focuses on a romance but, the main plot is about A tight nit group of Norman nights.
There is one small very mild sex scene so if the intense sex scenes bother you, this is a book for you.

    This book drove me crazy
I don't like to give negative reviews, but I'm so frustrated that I wasted a credit on this book that I can't help it. The narrator is annoying. I didn't listen to a sample before I bought the book since I love all things orphan train....big mistake. I made it 11 chapters into the book and there is a woman that goes west on a train through the children's aide society, but she's 19 and going for a job. The story is really a romance and an irritating one at that. I hate it when authors are always telling me how the character feels instead of showing me. And I hate the romance formula where someone is hiding how they really feel to simply move the story along. I didn't finish the book and don't care how it ends. I'm sorry for being so negative. I can say that it seems like the author did a good job of researching and found an interesting story I didn't know about (that the children's aide society helped place female workers out west) and the story line would have been good if the length of the book was cut in half and the characters were more fully developed than described.
    well written
The wonderful characters struggle to find their direction in life. I truly enjoyed the story and look forward to the next book.
    Mixed thoughts
I have mixed thoughts about this audiobook. The narrators voices were pretty good, but I thought the rest of her delivery was a bit ... overdone? That said, I got used to it pretty quickly.
As for the story itself ... Parts were very good, and I like the overall concept, but if Id been reading instead of listening, I would have skimmed a lot there were parts that just seemed too long.
That said, the main relationship was fantastic ... fun and more realistic interaction than many Ive read. The slower parts of this book were worth it just for Elise and Thornton.

This was worth a read but not very exciting.
This book was hard to keep up with the different characters because of the way it was written. It was Very slow starting and the story was drawn out too long. It got wearisome at times, because Ms Cossette would make an event take so long to advance. The narrator, Sarah Mollo-Christensen was pretty good. She has the ability to do different ages believably. I was disappointed that in this story, Biblically documented miracles, if mentioned, were treated as banal as a regular day. I cannot believe anyone, much less a group of people, would be so blasé about the miracles they experienced.
    Shadow of the Storm
Wow, incredible!!!! I first thought the book far too long, drawn out in sections, but I couldnt seem to stop listening. Also, thought Shera was far too fearful for my blood, but still, couldnt stop listening. I hated Devora for a long minute, but still, I could not stop listening to the book. Kira was my favorite in the first book and I think I wanted to read more of her in the second, but still, I kept listening.
This was absolutely great!!! The author grabbed my heart and turned my passions upside down, far more than I can ever articulate. And, I thoroughly loved the authors ability to keep biblical history and storyline at the forefront. AWESOME!!!
The spirit of Forgiveness is ALWAYS my heart and Shera carried that spirit, though fearful, throughout much of the book, she showed forth great strength that I as a reader so embraced and admired. Awesome AWESOME read. :)
    Excellent story
Narrator is good, nice low male voice but a bit more emotion would be nice. Didn't quite ever lose the fact it was narrator.
    Amazing story!
I love the way the author makes you feel like you are there. The characters are very well developed. I am ready for book three!

    Nice story ...but
I found myself drawn to the story. Who doesnt like one of the wallflower captivating the Duke? Unfortunately, the overdone theatrical narration all but ruined what could have been a great book. I felt the voice for Emma, lead, was juvenile and annoying and the others werent much better. I believe the narrator truly has talent but was too over the top. Nothing new or different in the storyline, but pleasant. Likeable lead characters.
Good story but a weak heroine
The story is interesting and different but i found the heroine I interesting and weak. It became frustrating because I did not find her attractive or alluring enough to fall in love with. Supporting characters are good and the narrator is ok. Nothing outstanding here.
    could not finish the story
this book was do trite. it was boring, I didn't care for the hero or the heroine.
    Recommended but some reservations
This was my first book by the author. I found it to be very similar to Pride and prejudice- with both the hero in

    Excellent.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The best part was narrator Brad Wills, fantastic character voices.
    This Is Epic!
This is an Epic story! I repeat EPIC! Written from the heart, narration was done from the soul! This is an intense story that will take you on a lovely journey. It made me have every emotion! I cried and laughed out loud. Suzan Tisdale and Brad Wills is the perfect combination and they made my day! I wish I could give them a perfect ten. This is the best from them both.
    excellent
After every book I listen or read from Suzan Tisdale I say the same, the best yet, but every time I am proven wrong because each book has its own appeal and stays in my heart for different reasons. This one is no different. I loved every minute of it, the characters, the story how it unfolded, the suspense of waiting to find out who is behind all the bad things happening around the Bowie keep and then the finding out who it actually was, I WAS stunned, then horrified by the madness of that person.
Leona and Alex's journey to HEA was not easy, but oh so worth it.
I laughed out loud a few times at the banter between characters. At the warriors' funeral, the sword ritual had tears running down my cheeks, those little boys...
This is one book that does not leave the listener/reader unmoved one way or another.
I can't wait for 'Brogan's Promise', Rose is plotting again LOL
Brad Wills is one of my faves and I would listen to anything he narrates. The various characters, the range of emotions he can display with his voice is amazing and makes me want more. Loved the voice he gave Alex. Thank you for the hours of pure enjoyment.
    Great book
I completely enjoyed the book. I enjoy Brad Wills, he has a great voice he does a great job on a woman's voice, he has such a variety of male voices.
good read. It kept me interested!
A little slow initially, but it did keep me interested. I would recommend this book.

A great story of faith and love in the post-War South!
A young Southern Belle gives up her wealth and status to accomplish a teaching mission, to educate choice black men and women, helping them reach toward their own dreams. Through it and her faith, she conquers her own fears, finding success on her own terms and a love for all time. The author captures the old South, its dark side, old money, and the realistic struggles of those who dared to empower Blacks with education and a future.
    Fantastic Listen!
Another fantastic book from Tamera Alexander! Thank you NetGalley for providing an ebook copy but I waited on the audible.com download and purchased this title for a wonderful listen. Readers will gain insight into the struggles African-American student faced, in specific at Tufts University in Nashville, and those who aided them. Entwined in the story is a beautiful romance between a very unlikely couple. The background also includes great tidbits about railroads and the men who built and ran them as well as the very real dangers faced in railroad travel after the Civil War. I plan to re-read (re-listen!) this story, something I don't often do!
    Enlightening
This is another great book in this series. I loved learning more about this time period and the Fisk singers. Alexandra must give up a lot to do what she feels led to do and must overcome her fear to continue doing what is needed. Audible 20 Review Sweepstakes

    Publisher's Summary:
Lord Drake Varisey, Marquess of Winchelsea, eldest son and heir of the Duke of Wolverstone, must foil a plot that threatens to shake the foundations of the realm, but the very last lady - nay, noblewoman - he needs assisting him is Lady Louisa Cynster, known throughout the ton as Lady Wild.
For the past nine years, Louisa has suspected that Drake might well be the ideal husband for her, even though he's assiduous in avoiding her. But she's now 27, and enough is enough. She believes propinquity will reveal exactly what it is that lies between them, and what better opportunity to work closely with Drake than this latest mission, with which he patently needs her help?
Unable to deny Louisa's abilities or the value of her assistance and powerless to curb her willfulness, Drake is forced to grit his teeth and acquiesce to her sticking by his side if only to ensure her safety. But all too soon, his true feelings for her surface sufficiently for her, perspicacious as she is, to see through his denials, which she then interprets as a challenge.
Even while they gather information, tease out clues, increasingly desperately search for the missing gunpowder, and doggedly pursue the killer responsible for an ever-escalating tally of dead men, thrown together through the hours, he and she learn to trust and appreciate each other. And fed by constant exposure - and blatantly encouraged by her - their desires and hungers swell and grow....
As the barriers between them crumble, the attraction he has for so long restrained burgeons and balloons until, goaded by her near death, it erupts, and he seizes her - only to be seized in return.
Linked irrevocably, and with their wills melded and merged by passion's fire, with time running out and the evil mastermind's deadline looming, together they focus their considerable talents and make one last push to learn the critical truths - to find the gunpowder and unmask the villain behind this far-reaching plot.
Only to discover that they have significantly less time than they'd thought, that the villain's target is even more crucially fundamental to the realm than they'd imagined, and that it's going to take all that Drake is - as well as all that Louisa as Lady Wild can bring to bear - to defuse the threat, capture the villain, and make all safe and right again.
As they race to the ultimate confrontation, the future of all England rests on their shoulders.

Good story with some hick ups
I didn't like that were recycling parts of the recording during the story. I can't be the only one that noticed the narrator's inflection/intonation changed from one second to the other during the story when part of the story were used at an earlier moment in the storyline.
    Great series
Liked the way the characters solved the mystery. Also that the men respected women's opinions and capabilities.

Will she continue to feel trapped in a marriage of convenience while events conspire to divide them? Or would love grow as, day by day and hour after hour, she learns to understand the man she married, before she loses his trust and his heart?
(Given the "early marriage" premise, the issue of growing affection and intimacy is central to the story. The relevant scenes are not graphic, but the novel does address mature themes.)

Not the Elizabeth from the original P&P
Struggled to finish it. I spent most of the book waiting for the Elizabeth we know and love to show up. Instead you get this submissive, whiney woman who won't stand up for herself or her family. Yes there are a few times when they argue but she never puts up much of a fight.
The ending is horrible. Darcy goes from being this loving man to an ice-cold and heartless jerk. He wasn't even this cruel to Wickham and yet he's going to treat the woman he loves this way. I finally skipped the final chapters to get to the end. Very disappointed, would not recommend.
    Heart-wrenching and Emotional P&P Variation
"Serve and obey, a terrifying burden when one cannot also love and honor. How could she sacrifice herself thus?"
In this Pride and Prejudice variation, Col Fitzwilliam's revelation of Darcy's interference in Bingley and Jane's budding romance is interrupted by a letter from Longbourn with disastrous news. Mr. Bennet has been struck down by an apoplectic fit and lies at death's door. Darcy recognizes that Mr. Collins will cast out the Bennet family the moment Mr. Bennet passes and immediately proposes to Lizzy. His proposal is tempered with apologies for the timing and kindness in his consideration of her current condition. He offers to convey her to Longbourn and on the way Lizzy considers his offer.
Lizzy only knows that Darcy is cold and capable of cruelty to those once considered friends, she believes that he is a proud and reserved man. But she also perceives the love he has for her and the closeness and companionship he shares with Bingley and Fitzwilliam. She recognizes the advantages to her family, and that close association with Bingley may bring him back to Jane. Lizzy agrees to marry him, and Darcy is overcome with joy. But simply saying "yes" can't solve their problems. Lizzy struggles in a marriage of unequal affections, and Darcy wonders what happened to the lively and charming girl he fell in love with.
Poor Lizzy! and poor Darcy! Without Lizzy's words of refusal to dispel Darcy's pride, and Darcy's letter to clear up her misconceptions, Lizzy continues to willfully misunderstand Darcy and he remains blissfully unaware of her true feelings of disapprobation. Darcy makes blunder after blunder and repeatedly insults her family, while Lizzy rails at her lack of choice in the marriage but won't speak up for herself. Both of them are the losers in this situation.
