Shakespearenesque

Shakespearenesque Pride and Prejudice variation. Suitors swapping. It was quite delightful. I really enjoyed it.

And as always, Stevie Zimmerman rocked as a narrator.

Great P&P and Persuasion crossover

I loved this crossover between my two favorite Jane Austen novels. The idea of Darcy and Ann Elliott getting engaged was brilliant. Both Sir Walter and Miss Elliott were captured perfectly, so true to their original characters. It had a lot of angst and some humor as well, but luckily there was a HEA for both couples.

It is a Joana Starnes' story, so there had to be a lot of Darcy's soul searching, she always does it so beautifully. I enjoyed rivalry between Darcy and Captain Wentworth, and their working together against Wickham. Wicked Wicky got his just deserts, and it's always a pleasure.

Another wonderful Stevie Zimmerman's narration of Joana Starnes' story. Highly recommended.

Hunt's portrayal of the Maccabean revolt from an insider's perspective was masterfully accomplished. Leah's inner struggle to come to terms with God's will in her life and for His people, as well as her own journey to understand the nature of real love were equally beautiful. While the love story between Judah and Leah was more satisfying than the virtually non-existent one in Egypt's Sister, I still could have done with more. I realize that history-- rather than romance-- play the larger role in Hunt's works, but the amount of time Leah and Judah actually spend content in their marriage was short, and a bit rushed. While I understand their importance, and appreciate the historical accuracy involved, I also admittedly grew tired of-- and even resorted to skimming through-- the many, many battle scenes depicted in the novel.

SLOW SLOW SLOW

I usually like D. O'Farrell's narrating but this was desperately slow and wispy. The male voices were horrible, it was nearly laughable.

The story was painfully slow. I'm getting my credit back on this one. If you're looking for similar but much better than this try books by Tessa Dare and Kerrigan Byrne.

The Highland Guardian

Amy Jarecki never leaves her readers disappointed. This is one of her best. Reid meets Audrefotpr the first time believing he is to be guardian to a young girl. He is totally taken by surprise to see that she is a 19 year old woman. She believes herself to be a shy person . Her father had asked Reid to be her guardian as his dying request. The adventure is good and Amy has given her readers a special love story set in times of the fight for Scotland's freedom. If you enjoy reading Amy's books you Will not be disappointed. Purchase of this novel is worth the price for the mix of love and adventure alone.

Great Read

Lord Seaforth is involved with the Jacobites along with Nicholas Kennett a wealthy English merchant trying to avoid redcoats when Nicholas was killed. Before he died Kennett asked Nicholas to be his daughters guardian. Audrey does not want a guardian she is devastated by the loss of her father and not very impressed by the highlander.

I always enjoy Amy's books I have read most of her books now. This one for me started out a little slow but when all of the real action and adventure started it did not disappoint. A great Highland love story

Amy Jarecki has written another great story of intrigue and love. I enjoyed this book so much I had to stay up almost all night to finish. I could not wait to see how it ended. I would recommend it to all.

Absolutely Wonderful Variation!

This Pride and Prejudice variation begins with very different circumstances for the Bennets. Mr. Bennet has passed, Mr. Collins has inherited Longbourn, and the Bennet family has been thrown into the hedgerows. Jane is in London with the Gardiners, Mrs. Bennet and the other girls living with the Phillips in Meryton, and Elizabeth has gone to work as a governess for Col Fitzwilliam's nieces. It's there that Elizabeth meets and befriends Georgiana. When Elizabeth is about to leave her position, Georgiana begs her brother to hire Elizabeth as her companion.

Darcy hires Elizabeth and they happily settle at Pemberley. Elizabeth has daily proof of Darcy's kindness and worth as she witnesses his interactions with his sister and the people on his estate. And Darcy delights in Elizabeth's intelligence, wit, and her kindness towards his sister. But Elizabeth is no longer a simple gentleman's daughter, equal in standing if not in wealth. She's a paid companion in Darcy's employ, and any future between them seems impossible.

This is a lovely Pride and Prejudice variation with just a pinch of Jane Eyre sprinkled in for extra sweetness. The book is broken into two parts. The first half is told entirely from Darcy's point of view, and the second half switches between Lizzy and Darcy's points of view. This is my favorite type of variation, one in which the characters' personalities are true to the original, but the entire story and setting have changed. Most of the book is set at Pemberley, which means that we don't see much of Mrs. Bennet and the other girls, the Bingleys, the Gardiners, or Mr. Collins. The author puts our favorite characters into a completely new plot, and not a single scene is repeated from the original. She subtly weaves sentences from the original into her work and each time I recognized one it made me smile.

The author writes such wonderful dialogue, and there are so many sweet moments between our couple. Of course, this wouldn't be a Joana Starnes novel without heartbreak and a lot of tears. She never disappoints. There are several emotionally charged scenes that had me frozen motionless while I listened. Lizzy and Darcy's series of misunderstandings are painful, and their journey to happiness isn't smooth. This book is well written, passionate, and emotional, a special story that's so worth the read.

I can't decide whether to just buy every Joana Starnes book published so far, or wait for Stevie Zimmerman's narration to bring them to life. Her performance is outstanding. She has the perfect voice for Darcy, deep, vulnerable, and intense.

Very good book!

This was a very good book. I really enjoyed it. Especially loved Ewan's character. He was a man of very few words, but they always meant something. I liked Lorrie too. Sometimes I wanted her to chill out, but then I got used to her character. They did make a great match.

There was a couple of twists and surprises that made the book better than just the normal romance which I liked very much. Some great dialogue, even though Ewan had less words than most. LOL

As for the narration, this was my first Victoria Aston listen and she did a great job. The men sounded like men and she read with emotion. She has a very nice reading voice too.

I am looking forward the the next book in this series.

At long last!

Love the series and was anxiously awaiting the audible version so that I could have this intriguing and beautifully descriptive novel read to me by someone with a lovely Irish accent! Home run - the narrator is just perfect and Im thrilled so far. May update after Ive listened to the entire thing, but Im sure it will only be to heap further praise upon both the author and her excellent choice of narrator!

Brilliant choice of a narrator

What made the experience of listening to Exit Unicorns the most enjoyable?

Gary Furlong, as the narrator made the listening experience incredible. I loved his voice and he was absolutely brilliant in his reading of the book. He literally made the characters jump out at you with the voices he put to them. The narrator can either make or ruin the books you listen to. I've had several good story's ruined, just by the narrator that was chosen for that particular book. Not so in this case!

What did you like best about this story?

I love that this story was based on true historical events in Ireland, in the not so distant past. Though the characters are supposed to be fictional, they could have actually been real. I enjoy the way Cindy Brandner writes her stories, you feel everything from heartache to passion and everything in between. For me, reading / listening to the book, took me directly to Ireland and placed me in the midst of the story.

Which character as performed by Gary Furlong was your favorite?

My favorite character performed by Gary, had to be hands down....Casey! Though I love Jamie, Pamela & Pat, just as equally.

I love all of Tamera Leighs book without question but this one was a sad disappointment.

Normally I can purchase and read her books without reading the reviews because she ALWAYS delivers. But in this case I didnt think so. The book was weak, the plot was weak and I thought the characters weak. I was disappointed of the lack of faith expressed in the book and the amount of desire of another ones spouse, or not ones spouse. It was to strong. You dont find the truth until the very end of the book and it does come out right...but still thats at the end of the book so the whole time you disappointed with the characters behavior. Im still a huge fan and will continue to read her books. Just wasnt a fan of this one.

A Winner

Another memorable, enjoyable story from Tamara Leigh. The last few books of hers lost my interest, but this one kept me fully engaged. Beautiful romance and redemption for a hopeless situation. Loved it!

Keeps Me Wanting Morre

What made the experience of listening to Lady Betrayed the most enjoyable?

I get so wrapped up in the author's storylines full of faith, hope, and love. This book also included forgiveness and was underserved. I couldn't stop listening and learned how to show more forgiveness in my own relationship.

Couldnt stop listening!

I had an 8 hour drive and I started Lady Betrayed (audio). I went to work the following day and with my earbuds in, listened and finished another great book by Ms. Tamara Leigh! Thank you so much for getting me to my destination and enjoying every moment of the journey!

an unexpected delight!

I found out this favorite KJ Charles book came out as an audiobook by happy surprise. Any offering by KJ Charles by Audible is a delight, but this delivers on great narration, good characters and strong chemistry. The main character Archie is a wounded war hero trying to determine if his accident was caused by treachery and finds an unlikely ally in the bohemian Danielle. Set against a very British house party, the two discover dark secrets and a strong attraction. I found Archie's quintessential British chap to have a compelling storyline in self discovery as he slowly adapts to an understanding of himself as attracted to men. The period prejudices are a little startling to hear but are important to the plot so not there just for shock value. Danielle acts as a quicksilver foil to Archie's self realization, and the sex scenes show how opposites can fit together in the end. All this is managed with a deft touch by Tom Carter as the narrator. Am hopeful it is the start of a series and even more hopeful that other books by Charles, particularly the Charm of Magpies series, will also get audible versions.

And listening just adds to the pleasure.

KJ Charles is an amazing storyteller creating vivid images of times and places.This historical romance fits the time and place that it portrays like a glove: prejudices, entitlements, societal blinds pot, are all handled with a deft hand. Then,just when you think it can't get any better we add Tom Carter's narration. ... Let's just say I'll be listening, again.

Really Really Good Book

This book was really entertaining. Usually I find books that are set in the 1800. This was the first MM romance I found set in the early 1900. I definitely highly recommend this book!

Nice Bit of Fluff, Five Star Narrator

I listen to quite a few of these types of historical romance novels, and usually find them mildly entertaining. I like the History within the historical novels and this one was no exception. It does follow the usual format of these type of novels, but I enjoyed it just the same. Tim Campbell made listening to an ordinary romantic novel an extraordinary experience.
