Excellent story... different Poirot than usual
I have become addicted to the dramatized Poirot stories in the past year or so. After listening to about 20 of them, I have noticed a few things. Some seem to follow a rather set pattern while others go along in a seemingly nonsensical way until -bam!- the solution appears.
This book is unique in that where it has many elements of other Agatha Christie tales (ex: a murder on a train, a romance that may or may not be a good idea, Poirot's ambiguity on certain moral issues) it stands apart in how the story plays out. As usual, there are suspects a-plenty, but every time you think you have the killer pegged, that's about the time a new prime suspect crops up. It should keep you engaged all the way through without the annoying "Oh, it's obvious that guy did it and now I have to listen to 2 more hours of an unnecessary story" syndrome.
There was one main difference in this dramatization from the majority (or even all) of the others available: Hercule Poirot is voiced by a different actor. I was really used to John Moffat in the role and as such, hearing Maurice Denham exercising his "little grey cells" was a little hard for me. It was a little like switching Darrens (or Beckys, depending on your generation) and that took me out of the story. But after listening to it 3 or 4 times (yes, it's good enough to do that), he grew on me. I still prefer John Moffat, but not to the point where I can't listen.
As for the rest of the main cast, I don't know all the names, but the voices for Mr Van Alden, Major Knighton, Katherine Grey and Derek Kettering seemed spot on. The voice for Mirelle was really shrill and grating, but that fit the character perfectly. Ruth Kettering sounded like she was the same actress as Louise from "Murder in Mesopotamia" and for some reason, I can't see her as either of those characters. Her voice has a slight lisp to it that doesn't fit with the image of a glamorous femme fatale, but that's my take. The voice of Ada Mason just drove me batty, but again, maybe that was the point for the character.
All in all, this is one of my favorite Poirot stories.

    Entertaining and Fun
I was looking for something short and fun to listen to. Very entertaining. dramatization. I'll look for more.
    Enjoyed!
I typically do bot care for dramatizations of Christie's works as they are often overly dramatic and the music too loud. This one was neither. It was just fine. I enjoyed the story and the the dramatization both.
    Agatha does it again!
Although this is not a long story, around 1 hour 30 minutes, it's a very good story. The plot is very good and character development is top notch. I thoroughly enjoyed it and heartily recommend it.
Great dramatization of a classic Agatha
Would you consider the audio edition of The Body in the Library (Dramatised) to be better than the print version?
Both print and audio editions are good. I read this printed many times and I found the audio edition equally entertaining.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
still good even having read it many times before
    Superb
Superb dramatisation of this Agatha Christie classic. Thoroughly enjoyable in every aspect. Cast are tremendous. Miss Marple, as ever, outwits the authorities and solves the crime! Delightfully twee! Highly recommended.

If You Love Your Hercule Poirot You Will Love This
Just like listening to the TV version of Hercule Poirot only this is the radio version with the great John Moffat as Hercule of which John is perfect in the role.
A full professional cast of great actors who pull of this production with aplomb. I like these audio productions so much, I have bought the lot and enjoy having them all in my collection to listen to over & over when ever I like.
If you like Poirot you will love these first class productions. I doubt that we will see the likes of these ever again. Well worth buying.
    An easy listen
I enjoyed this dramatisation, it made perfect easy listening. It was well performed and pleasing to listen to, but rather like and abridged book it wasn't quite as satisfying as the full unabridged book.
    not the best story
I enjoy Agatha Christie. this is not my favorite story. but it is brilliantly acted and produced. great for fans enjoy

so much fun and Patricia Rutledge is in it!
really enjoyed this tale of exotic mystery with great sound effects. Agatha Christie is wonderful.
    it was ... ok
Would you try another book from Agatha Christie and/or the narrator?
it was far too abrupt to be truly enjoyable. It also is virtually impossible to follow the smaller details of the story which make it possible to come up with your own ideas of ... who done it.
Has The Gates of Baghdad (Dramatised) turned you off from other books in this genre?
    nope
Would you listen to another book narrated by the narrator?
    depends on the story
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Gates of Baghdad (Dramatised)?
not sure, I would actually slow things down and take a bit more time to really tell the story.

    Publisher's Summary:
A BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation starring John Moffatt as the great Belgian detective.
Poirot has always hated visiting the dentist, but this time his check-up is painless and soon over. As he leaves Mr Morley's surgery, he observes a woman wearing patent leather shoes with large buckles. She catches one of the buckles on the taxi door and wrenches it off, and as Poirot hands it back, he is reminded of the children's rhyme 'One, two, buckle my shoe'.
Back home, Poirot is astonished to receive a call from Chief Inspector Japp, informing him that Mr Morley has shot himself. There was no reason for him to commit suicide, and Poirot believes he was murdered, but who would want to kill an inoffensive dentist? To find out, Poirot must pick up sticks and lay them straight...
As Poirot starts to dig and delve, the solution seems apparent. But with so many suspects, and a wealth of motives to digest, he has a long way to go before his plate's empty...

If you love Poirot - dont hesitate!!
Always enjoyable and never obvious to solve - Agatha Christie delivers like no other writer in her genre. The Dramatised Radio versions are a blessing for those of us who grow to like TV less and less.
Nice Job. But some stories are too similar.
Just like Miss Marple's few stories, some of Poirot's stories are also repeating..... But it's still nice to listen.
    BRILLIANT CHRISTIE DOES IT AGAIN
This is one of my prize listens. I enjoy the puzzles and strategies in One Two Buckle My Shoe, as well as the unrealistic logic in many of the characters mindsets. The more I listened to this one the more I learnt. Plus it is great to have Inspector Japp throughout. John Moffat, excels as the radio Poirot in all of these BBC Christie shows. Though the real Poirot for me is the TV actor, David Suchet.

    UTTER NONSENSE
Once again modern ruins Agatha Christies work. The actors can not be faulted. Just a shame the writers use Christiess name and her work for their own gains, simply because they are not good enough writess to come up with their own work.
