Title: As It Should Be

Author: Margaret Smith

Narrator: uncredited

Format: Original Recording

Length: 41 mins

Language: English

Release date: 10-26-06

Publisher: Uproar Entertainment

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 6 votes

Genres: Comedy, Stand-Up & Jokes

Publisher's Summary:

Smith left home for college and needed money. Since she was from Chicago, she applied, successfully, for a job at Second City, which would pay half of her school tuition. That gig lasted three-and-a-half years and included writing many of the group's sketches. Eventually, she gravitated to New York City, where she began her stand-up career.

Editorial Reviews:

In As it Should Be, deadpan stand-up Margaret Smith bares her soul on the altar of comedy, as she riffs on work, play, family, her favorite underwear, and her taste in men ("basically I date guys I think I can take"). Part confession, part declaration of war, Smiths routine terrorizes the mundane world of strip malls and tawdry houses, reminding listeners of everyday lifes absurd drudgery. To witness Smiths biting banter is to be slain by laughter, as listeners wont be able to tell whether theyre laughing at the stand-up on stage or themselves.

In her live comedy special, Read THESE Lips, Clinton touches on a variety of clever bits including, why gay men are bad bowlers, her screwball trip to India with her partner, and well-timed quips on The Supreme Court, the Oscars, and big businesses like Microsoft.

Members Reviews:

Laugh out loud funny!

My only wish is that there was MORE! Need more Kate! Love her rapid-fire, thoughtful humor!

READ THIS REVIEW! KATE IS AWESOME

Would you consider the audio edition of Read THESE Lips to be better than the print version?

It's a recording of a stand up routine. And a really funny one. Kate gives us her views on life, Politics, love and makes you laugh really hard. This was recorded in the early 2000's when George W, Bush was president. And she does give Bush a hard time along with Bob Doyal and the Mars Probe just to name a few of her topics she talks about. Even though some of this is dated it's still a Dyke's dream to rock your world.. Kate is the god-mother of lesbian comedy. But she doesn't just talk about gay stuff, no she talks about stuff in America. She is just plain funny.;

Who was your favorite character and why?

It's all Kate all the time; doing one of her best monologues. She makes you laugh until you are crying; You laugh so hard you sides will hurt.

Which scene was your favorite?

The parts were she talks about George Bush, And The parts were she is talking about the Oscar and Barbara Walters. And when she talks about going to India and her girlfriend and Bob Jones U. And the Microsoft parts. And I could go on and on. It's just a funny CD and it's just a great funny stand up routine.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I like how she pointed out how small the lesbian community is and how every one seems to know each other and how we just seem to trade around our dating pool. You have to hear her routine on this but it's funny.

Any additional comments?

Kate is the God Mother of Lesbian comedy and her insights into life are a lot of fun to hear even though this a dated CD. It is still funny. Kate just is still relevant today. And part of our history, Don't miss this.

Title: Pipe Layin' Dan

Author: LaWanda Page

Narrator: LaWanda Page

Format: Original Recording

Length: 26 mins

Language: English

Release date: 10-26-06

Publisher: Uproar Entertainment

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 2 votes

Genres: Comedy, Stand-Up & Jokes

Publisher's Summary:

La Wanda tells it like it is...with hot, fast, and fragrant sex, soul, and sin intermingled. Leaving out none of the four-letter stuff, keeping her one eye on Pipe Layin' Dan and the other on the man she's workin' (with both hands busy in the tool box and her mouth goin' for the record) is what makes La Wanda the Queen of Soul Comedy and the funniest broad in bed or on record.

Be a plumber's helper: pick up on Pipe Layin' Dan, who's got the world's greatest plumbing (according to La Wanda). And La Wanda's got the biggest, funniest, sexiest mouth to tell of it (and other bawdy stories).

For Adults Only. Explicit language. Must be 18 years of age to purchase.

Editorial Reviews:

In this live stand-up special in front of a raucous audience, Ms. La Wanda Paige - the uproarious and legendary profane comic - cleverly spews forth a rapid-fire assortment of dirty jokes that some will find repellent and others will find hilarious. Most, if not all, of these jokes are not suitable to describe here, but we can say that Vaseline receives several choice mentions.

Paige clearly "works blue" and Pipe Layin Dan definitely isnt for everywhere. But if you think well-timed bits about everything sex-related and taboo are funny, youre gonna love this.

Title: Guaranteed Fresh

Author: Suzanne Westenhoefer

Format: Original Recording

Length: 1 hr and 10 mins

Language: English

Release date: 10-26-06

Publisher: Uproar Entertainment

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 21 votes

Genres: Comedy, Stand-Up & Jokes

Publisher's Summary:

Suzanne says, "I'm very comfortable confronting and bearing my soul. For some people, the thought of that is terrifying, and they would rather be dead. But this is the easiest thing I've ever done. I've worked in factories, I've bartended in New York, I've lugged stuff around; I know what hard work is. This is the easiest thing I've ever done in the world. This is me being me and getting paid for it."

Editorial Reviews:

Twelve years after she became the first out lesbian comedian to appear on television, Suzanne Westenhoefer takes on another milestone: her 40th birthday. With Guaranteed Fresh Westenhoefer riffs on the aging process, family relationships, and life as a lesbian in the 21st century. At mid-life, Westenhoefer is clearly confident and self-aware, casually noting, "Im very comfortable confronting and bearing my soulthis is the easiest thing Ive ever done." Nevertheless, Westenhoefer hasnt exactly mellowed with age, and this is clear as she mouths off about the trials and tribulations of domestic drudgery and household homosexuality. To bellyaching aplomb, Westenhoefer decries long car rides, Homeland Security, and wonders why her mom wont wear that "muff-divers club" t-shirt she gave her.

Members Reviews:

Suzanne Westenhoefer is 40, Fresh and Funny!

Would you consider the audio edition of Guaranteed Fresh to be better than the print version?

There is no printed version audible! This is Suzanne W. doing her stand up routine brilliantly following in the footsteps of Kate Clinton or even if you stretch it a little Lilly Tomlin. But Suzanne is her own person and owns her comedy. She does touch on current events a little, Martha Stewart going to jail but is not a hard sale on politics. She speak more about the personal. Like her Mother and her sisters, Her acting career, Her girl friend and there cats. And she makes it so funny you almost wet yourself you are laughing so hard.

What did you like best about this story?

I like her whole stand up routine, she has perfect timing between jokes and you feel her giving you the punch lines like all the great comic masters do. Timing you just can't teach you either have it or you don't and Suzanne has it. She keeps you in laughter while giving you time to get a breath before you are laughing again.

Which scene was your favorite?

Suzanne's comedy really is Fresh, a nice voice for the lonely lesbian. I like the story she tells about giving her mother the tee shirt that and her mother not understanding what it meant and wearing it everywhere. I also enjoyed the story about the home depot and the 40 pounds of grout.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

They have, Suzanne W. has at least one HBO special that was filmed and boy is it funny. She is so talented. Sometimes you can caught her doing one of those half-hour comedy things on Comedy Central or the like. She really is very funny. I know when Here TV was trying to make a go of it she and 3 other lesbian comedians where filmed together for a special. The DVD's and taped and specials are hard to find but out there and she is awesome to see perform.

Any additional comments?

This is the best of her 3 audio stand up routines that were taped. But all 3 were very funny. I got this and the other two on sale though I own the CD already. I bought them so I would have them on my kindle when I felt the need for a good laugh.

Editorial Reviews:

Since his first appearance in 1996, Ernie G. (Ernesto Tomas Gritzewsky) has made a name for himself in the Los Angeles comedy scene with his energy, social awareness, and literate-but-street-smart humor.

In Mamas Boy, he finds humor in the pretensions of club dwellers, the incongruity of his Russian surname and Mexican background, and the changing face of Latino identity.

To knowing, appreciative hoots from a live audience, Ernie G laces his routine with Spanish phrases (even while he makes fun of his imperfect command of his ancestral tongue) and jokingly translates Spanish love songs into English to get laughs.
