Members Reviews:

Love Eddie Izzard, but...

I love Definite Article, and have done since it was first released on video, to the point I nearly wore out the VHS tape I played it on back in the day. I thought it fair to point out though, that as amusing as it is and as much as I laughed hearing this version, this is the same show yes, but NOT the same performance as released on video, and felt disappointed not to hear the bits that were missing.

The best Izzard show

This probably the best Eddie Izzard show out there on audible. Having said that, next time I listen to "Glorious" or "Dress to Kill" I will probably change my mind.

"Definite Article" feels more polished and ingeniously structured than the other shows, while still managing the odd non-link Izzard is famous for - i.e. randomly changing subject matter in a hilarious way. If you're a fan of Izzard and haven't heard this show, where have you been?! If you're not a fan and fancy trying it out, then this is certainly a gd'un to go for.

Great Laugh

I always thought that you had to see Eddie Izzard to get the full value of his comedy, but listening to this I realise it isn't true - he is just as hilarious as ever. I love his slow, random style, and the characters he builds in his show. If you need a good pickmeup - have a listen!

Editorial Reviews:

The edgy pranksters of Harvards National Lampoon mock off-limits topics like sex, religion, and politics in Sex, Drugs, Rock 'n' Roll, and the End of the World.

In a series of short skits, we get a socialist Jane Fonda redistributing Oscars to the "working man", a reincarnated Marilyn Monroe on an evangelical talk show curing lame men, and Mr. Rogers in the role of a warmongering President of the United States.

This rude, take-no-prisoners comedy is highlighted by spot-on celebrity impersonations (including Bob Dylan, in a surprisingly enjoyable musical parody).

Title: Bad Boyz of the Barrio

Author: Pablo Francisco, Rudy Moreno, Willie Barcena

Narrator: uncredited

Format: Original Recording

Length: 56 mins

Language: English

Release date: 05-13-04

Publisher: Uproar Entertainment

Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 6 votes

Genres: Comedy, Stand-Up & Jokes

Publisher's Summary:

Explicit language. Must be 18 years of age to purchase.

Editorial Reviews:

In the same vein as culture-based comedy tours like The Original Kings of Comedy and the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, Bad Boyz of the Barrio gathers together four comics - Pablo Francisco, Rudy Moreno, Willie Barcena, and Gilbert Esquivel - to riff on their shared heritage; in this case, Latino identity. The comedians here also take aim at other concepts like the clichés of movie trailers, matriarchy, and, of course, white people. Despite the seeming gimmickry of omnibus comedy tours, those like Bad Boyz of the Barrio give needed exposure to new, appealing, and underrepresented comic voices.

Members Reviews:

Proud to be a Jewish Mother!

Annie Korzen made me laugh all the way home! I listened to this on a long boring road trip and loved it. Her jokes and stories poke fun of stereotypes about men, women, religion, and society. By the end I was cheering! I have been recommending this to all the "Jewish Mother's" in my life, and all the "Wanna Be Jewish Mother's" too!

Fun listen on a car trip

This was a humorous, insightful little book. It is not just about growing up and being Jewish; its about growing up and being human, and coming to grips with who you are. We really enjoyed it on our car trip.

Suzanne Westenhoefer wields her politically incorrect brand of humor like a sledgehammer, breaking down the wall between gay and mainstream comedy. Her fresh and unique material earned her a comedy special on HBO and on the stages of various comedy clubs across the country - now see why.

Editorial Reviews:

From the second Suzanne Westenhoefer starts to talk, it's clear that she's a comic totally in control of her crowd - unflappable, unshakeable, absolutely at ease on stage. Westenhoefer's shtick is predicated largely in her sexuality, and when she quips, early on, "An all gay crowd, of course, is my favorite crowd because I don't have to explain any of the jokes," you have a sense of where things are headed. Never fear, though - Westenhoefer's material, contrary to her own claim, is accessible and uproarious, and her cool-as-a-cucumber stage presence is a joy to experience. Press play and rest assured, you'll find yourself cradled in highly capable comedic hands, laughing all the way through to the end.

Members Reviews:

Just Plain Funny

I try to see her everytime she's in Columbus, and she is a riot! You will love this title even if you aren't gay! This is a good one.

Suzanne Does Stand Up for Lesbians.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

YES YES YES!!! I love MS Westenhoefer's stand up. She is extremely funny and it's nice to have a lesbian do our own humor. Plus she is thought provoking. She makes you think about our culture and ourselves, about the trials of coming out, of dealing with family. But her way of handing is to take you on cruise. Have fun and listen.

What did you like best about this story?

I think I found just her general stand up funny but my favorite routines where about the Amish and Her saying with her mother with her the parts about her sister and her mother.

Have you listened to any of the narrators other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have all three of her CD at my house, I downloaded all three of her CD's on to my computer and kindle fire. I have several DVD's with her doing small bits I love watching her whenever I get the chance to see her on TV. Do yes I have a lot of stuff she does. She is a really funny comedian. And this Audio of her stand up routine is really funny.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I have seen Suzanne do her stand-up on HBO special's which is as close as you get to seeing preform on of her stand up routine. If you can find a copy -do, she will make you laugh till you cry.

Any additional comments?

This a lesbian culture icon thing, if you are gay you need to hear this and laugh -hard.

Length: 47 mins

Language: English

Release date: 08-29-00

Publisher: The Publishing Mills

Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 24 votes

Genres: Comedy, Stand-Up & Jokes

Publisher's Summary:

Meet Jim Smith, Jonathan Winters' peripatetic buddy. Regardless of the season or time of day, Jonathan can never reach Mr. Smith by phone...but that's a stroke of luck for the fans of comedy's most beloved genius. This recording is made up of actual phone messages left by Jonathan Winters on his friend's answering machine. The result is a tribute to comedy's brightest mind at his improvisational best.

Members Reviews:

Utterly disappointed

After listening for about 6 to 7 minutes I turned it off out of frustration. Maybe my sense of humor is just vastly different to that of Mr Winters. Sorry to say but I found it extremely boring.

Not Even....

Expecting the genius comedy of Jonathan Winters, I was sorely disappointed. It's said that genius has a "dark side" and this is it. That said, I listened to the entire recording hoping that it would get better. Occasionally, it's funny, but also repetetive and at times, difficult to understand. Perhaps he was over-medicated.

Title: It's O.K. to Be a White Male

Author: Jeff Wayne

Format: Original Recording

Length: 49 mins

Language: English

Release date: 12-16-99

Publisher: Uproar Entertainment

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 9 votes

Genres: Comedy, Stand-Up & Jokes

Publisher's Summary:

For Adults Only: Explicit language. Must be 18 years of age to purchase.

Editorial Reviews:

In this wry comedy album, Jeff Wayne sets his sights on a pretty big target - political correctness - and does what he can to tear it to shreds. Listeners may find themselves divided about Wayne's comedic subject matter; the title of this performance, It's O.K. to Be a White Male, communicates its obviously controversial bent pretty well. What isn't controversial, though, is Wayne's easy and energetic confidence, which creates a strong flow throughout his subjects and skits. Wayne's musings about the nature of majority and minority politics may be divisive, but there's no arguing with his style, and listeners are guaranteed laughs when they hop on board with this old pro.

Members Reviews:

It's O.K. to ignore this guy!!!

Denis Leary, he's not! He had maybe two good jokes and the rest was nothing but predictable right-wing apologetics cerca 1992. Talk about dated! I thought I had fallen into a "way-back" machine.

The Gay Comedy Jam features three gay comedians whove starred on HBO specials, the Tonight Show, and toured in over 100 cities.

This showcase of gay comedians is greeted warmly by a crowd that revels in jokes that find the lighter side of being gay.

Members Reviews:

A breath of fresh air

Although the title of this CD may prevent some not to purchaseit they would be in error for it is a great Cd very funny andrefreshing.... Even the casual listener ... will find it amusing. Allthree comedians featured on the disk are unique in their approach anddeliver their punchlines well timed and more often then not with atwist. The ludeness is kept to a minimal and is incorporated well with the jokes being related. It is also touching in a lot of ways and for a genre that is saturated with mindless crude comedy it is a breath of fresh air ....

Title: Too Much Man for Just One Woman...and Other Lies!

Author: Steve McGrew

Format: Original Recording

Length: 1 hr and 9 mins

Language: English

Release date: 12-16-99

Publisher: Uproar Entertainment

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 43 votes

Genres: Comedy, Stand-Up & Jokes

Publisher's Summary:

Then he started traveling around the country. Boy, was he wrong!

For Adults Only: Explicit language. Must be 18 years of age to purchase.

Editorial Reviews:

Comedian Steve "Mudflap" McGrew takes a decidedly politically incorrect, country-boy view at life and relationships in this charmingly raunchy stand-up set. Born and raised in Oklahoma, McGrew's drawl gives him a paradoxically innocent-sounding demeanor even as he cusses up a storm about everything from his Power Rangers-obsessed son to gay pride parades and white trash. Fans of comedians like Larry the Cable Guy will find a lot to laugh at in Too Much Man for Just One Womanand Other Lies!, as McGrew proves himself a kindred spirit with his no-holds-barred approach.

Members Reviews:

Still laughing just thinking about it

As long as you don't mind the crude language, you will laugh till tears come. I listen in the car, and many times, I was laughing so hard, I was struggling to keep the car going straight. OK, I exagerate a little, but I am sure other drivers watching me laugh were wishing they "had what I had". Must listen!

Absolutely Hysterical

If you don't object to some course language, you will laugh alot with Steve McGrew. I found myself laughing so hard at one point that I had tears forming in my eyes. Highly recommended!

Great Stand Up

I Laughed all the Way through, from Start to Finish. Brilliant. Hopefully Audible Will Have More of His Work Available. Soon .

Listen to this!

This routine is hilarious. I've purchased both the download and several copies of the CD to give to friends. My wife, who has a very limited sense of humor, loves this guy. I see him occasionally on the Comedy Channel and am hoping he'll come up with a worthy sequel to this Magnum Opus.

You'll Laugh

Some points had me busting up uncontrollably, other points were slower but still funny. I wouldn't say it's really "redneck" humor, but leaning in that direction. It's worth the price if you need a laugh and aren't offended by the dirty language and some sexual references.

Title: Unzipped

Author: Pat Paulsen

Format: Original Recording

Length: 43 mins

Language: English

Release date: 12-16-99

Publisher: Uproar Entertainment

Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 2 votes

Genres: Comedy, Stand-Up & Jokes

Publisher's Summary:

And then he woke up!

Possessed of a sharp wit, to say the least, Pat Paulsen will amaze and amuse you. Unzipped is his posthumous release.

Editorial Reviews:

This 1996 recording of a performance by Pat Paulsen, an Emmy-winning comedian most noted for his roles on the Smothers Brothers' television programs as well as several tongue-in-cheek presidential campaigns, is a marvelous display of Paulsen's gentle yet cutting political satire. From the foibles of recent presidents to the differences between Democrats and Republicans, Paulsen comments on everything surrounding American politics, as well as the general culture at-large, with a keen wit. A mid-performance break into song tackles less heady territory but is charming just the same, and Paulsen's breezy demeanor turns Unzipped into an amusing crowd-pleaser.
