A fun filled summer term â lots of mischief too! - The first formers are a handful!
The St Clareâs series is the first boarding school series written by Enid Blyton. Like Malory Towers, it follows the girls from first form upwards,
Enid Blyton wrote six St Clareâs books between 1941 and 1946 - three first form books, one second form, one fourth and one fifth.
In 2000, Pamela Cox wrote an additional three authorized books - two about the third form and a sequel to the series - about the sixth form.
The St Clareâs series are centered around the twins Pat and Isabel O'Sullivan, as they begin school in first form.
Other main characters include classmates Allison (the twinsâ feather head cousin), Carlotta (the circus girl), Hilary (the dependable head girl), Bobby (full of playful tricks), Janet (fiery tempered) and Claudine (Mamâzelleâs niece).
Headmistress Miss Theobald, Matron (with her awful medicines) and teachers - Miss Roberts, Miss Jenks and Mamâzelle all help make this St. Clareâs boarding school series such an enjoyable read.
âSummer Term at St Clare'sâ written in 1943, is Book 3 in the series.
This book starts off different from the first two â the twins Pat and Isabel miss the first week of the Summer term in Form One.
They soon settle down with their old friends and several new girls. Boarding school life at St. Clareâs is certainly interesting. A fun filled summer term â lots of mischief too!
I read these St Clareâs books as a child, and now I'm sharing the excitement with the little ones some 60 years later!
Yup! This boarding school series is a great read. A much loved Enid Blyton genre that has stood the test of time and I believe ... has inspired a few of todayâs popular childrenâs storytellers.

I enjoyed it
However, as another customer said, there are tons of mistakes in the editing-no paragraphs, words missing, phrases completely wrong, But I still enjoyed the story of the girls in a privileged all-female boarding school in another era.
Enid Blyton has a plot and is good at building characters. And there are girls in it where you recognize yourself or others.
And it's interesting to see how the group pressures a girl who doesn't fit in for some reason or another-different tools to do that in such an environment.
One girl on a blog wrote about how she was influenced by these boarding school books to learn piano. I can't see how they could be anything but a good influence on a young person. They can be used as a teaching tool.
The teachers and girls are working towards high standards-or are expected to.
