A magical story about how a girl, through many trials, was able to find success in dancing.
Elizabeth awakened to find a beautiful round box sitting on her dresser. When she opened the box, white butterflies flew all around her. She found something odd in the box. Something odd but magical all the same. She remembered when she'd spent time with Grandmother and how Grandmother loved white butterflies. Grandmother was gone now and it took a while for Elizabeth to stop crying when she thought about her.
How could Grandmother have known that she wanted to quit dancing? Was there magic in the ballerina slippers? Elizabeth found magic in her life by working hard and not giving up even though it was difficult at times.

    Publisher's Summary:
A girl with a secret and a prince on a mission.... When Prince Anthony spies Eleanoria Woodston outside her family home dressed as a servant, he knows something is amiss. Pretending to be John, his cousin's outrider, he decides to take matters into his own hands and figure out why Ella hasn't been seen at court. And, more importantly, why the daughter of one of the wealthiest families in the kingdom dresses like a pauper. Ella has had her own bout of trials, including losing her beloved father and facing the wrath and jealousy of her stepmother and stepsisters. Becoming a servant doesn't seem all that bad until the handsome John comes into her life, now he appears to be upsetting everything. Never before has she been so unsettled. Just his presence is making her dream of a life beyond this one. When John invites Ella to the ball and she grudgingly accepts, he wonders if he's truly losing his mind. How would he ever pull off pretending to be John while obviously hosting the ball as Anthony? Especially when the stubborn girl has made it quite obvious she would never attend a ball with a snobbish prince.

I really wanted to like it
Would you try another book from Jenni James and/or Jane Oppenheimer?
I don't think so. I just couldn't handle the writing style. To me, it sounded as though the author had written it in comfortable, everyday American English, then dug out a British thesaurus and started switching out vocabulary in an attempt to make both the speech and prose sound more formal and "courtly" without any real understanding of how to use the new words in context. There were too many cringe-worthy, mangled phrases for me to enjoy the story, which otherwise I would have done.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Why is the heroine's surname Woodston and her stepsisters' surnames Dashlyn, even though her father was Lord Dashlyn? Even if he had adopted his stepdaughters, it puzzled me... The least interesting was the - literally - incredible incident with one of the sisters, the tea-tray, and the Duke. I know it's a fairy tale, but I found myself thinking, "Uh, really? Let's move on."
What does Jane Oppenheimer bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I think she read it very nicely. She is the reason I got as far as I did.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I liked the embellishments to the traditional Cinderella story. I gave up in the middle of a scene in which Cinderella suddenly starts extolling all the prince's hitherto undemonstrated virtues, but hey - it's a fairy tale! If I hadn't been thrown out of the story by the writing, I would probably have just skipped forward 30 seconds.
    Any additional comments?
Other people who reviewed it seemed to enjoy it very much so don't let me put you off!
    Captivating
Congratulations to Jennifer James, you took these beloved fairytales and made them even more delightful. Cinderella was beautiful. Thank you! I will enjoy these tales for a long time.

My 9-yr. old grandson (and I) love the Zombie Goldfish books and have been reading them, as they are published for about two years. They are great fun and tell a great story. Very entertaining for boys, girls and the folks who are reading to them.
    My son loves these books!
My son absolutely loves these books. I have bought him the entire set that is out so far and he is anxiously awaiting the next one. I am not sure what the appeal is but I know that they have both stories and other games and things for him to play in each book. They are written at approximately a 3rd grade reading level.
    Laughter encourages reading
I read this book to my son, who at the time didn't enjoy reading very much. This book is funny and showed him a new way that reading could be enjoyable. We love the characters, and Frankie is the best. The flip art on the corners is an added bonus. We look forward to reading the further adventures of Frankie, the zombie goldfish and his humans.

Young teenagers will be swept along in a fast moving story. Good read and very good English, kids get to read , enjoy , but still learn. A win win. Good book
Great Historical fiction-one of the newest of the series!!
LOTS of action/adventure!! Written to where a 10-12 would love and understand it, but for the language and sexual references. I read this to my children (boys 4,6 and 8) but we are careful to cut out certain bits.
    Greatnass
This book is really great, it's series is one of the best muchamore has made, but this book could use some more romance for a change.
    Loved it
This really is an awesome series and has got me interested in all sorts of WW2 novels. Muchamore is a brilliant author, the series is rally like a 70 year old version of the CHERUB books by the same author. They are fast fun and educational.

Great for grades 3-5, boys, and/or Minecraft fans
As a children's librarian I am always on the lookout for good books that I think kids will like. This Minecraft series is full of books that I literally cannot keep on the shelf; as soon as they returned someone else checks them out. Kids who are reluctant readers may like this series as it is entertaining but not overly difficult, and those who like the Minecraft game will be especially pleased.
I recommend this series for boys especially, and the grades that check them out the most are 3rd-5th (older kids or advanced readers may not be challenged enough by these books).
    My son loves it!

The powerful new novel from the master storyteller - inspired by the true story of one man who might have stopped World War II.
It's 1940. The train is under attacks from German fighters. In the darkness, sheltering in a railway tunnel, the stranger in the carriage with Barney and his mother tells them a story to pass the time. And what a story. The story of a young man, a young soldier in the trenches of World War I who, on the spur of the moment, had done what he thought was the right thing.
It turned out to have been the worst mistake he ever could have made - a mistake he must put right before it is too late....
    Critic Reviews:
"Brilliant, fascinating and intriguing. Historical fiction at its most magnificent." (Jackie French)
Praise for Michael Morpurgo: "Michael Morpurgo writes brilliantly about war and animals, conveying the big emotions without preaching. The former children's laureate has the happy knack of speaking to both child and adult readers." (Guardian)
"Morpurgo, as always, is subtle and skilful, and incorporates social and moral issues into his writing without being self-righteous or detracting from the quality of the narrative." (Elizabeth Reilly, British Council)
