The emotions that each character is experiencing. I have listen to others that just read the book. But not with the emotional value she does to a character.

Really Loved This Series

This being the last book (hopefully, only so far) I was very sorry to see it end. Although, it sure seems like it begs a sequel....

I sure hope so. I am eagerly and hopefully waiting for further adventures!

I loved the main character of Anna, for a number of reasons, one of which is her mixture of femininity and emotional strength---unusual in most of the heroines in the vampire genre. I loved her inner battle between her vampire and human nature, as well as her sexual drive. Finally! After some pretty tame sexual encounters in the earlier books, her vampire nature won out a bit.

As I've said in previous reviews, the secondary characters are particularly well-written and the villians are surprising. I won't put any spoilers here, but I was very surprised at some and equally surprised at who turns out to be the nice guys. It takes good writing to keep a reader guessing until the end.

I loved the narrator, too. Dina Pearlman has that wonderful vocal ability to subtly change her tone of voice for each character, male or female.

Highly recommended.

Excellent story and reader. I've listened to books 1 thru 5 and I haven't been disappointed by either.

Perfect way to wrap up loose ends

I was not sure how Anna Strong would end up fulfilling the prophecy and not sure how the author was going to blend all five books together, but she did a great job. Anna is not your ordinary vampire, and her sarcasm and attitude grow on you after a while, I love it.

Love love this series

Anna Strong; what a character. I've never seen a heroine that lives under such pressure. Just trying to keep almost everyone in the dark about Vampire is amazing.

This is a series that should not be missed.

Dina Pearlmans voice is definitely Anna strong. She is clear and consistent with voices of each characters.

Stacia Kane has transformed this critic into a fan

Im pleased to say, that after three installments, I FINALLY understand what all the fuss over this series is about! Chess and I got off to a rocky start in the beginning but my ratings of Kanes books have been steadily climbing which brings me to this 5 star review of City of Ghosts. Theres no shortage of action in this novel with its super-charged plot, magical machinations and relationship drama; truthfully, by the end I felt dizzy. This installment packs one heck of a punch and left me grinning from ear-to-ear!

The main story arc, as usual, revolves around a Church investigation but this one is unlike any Chess has ever worked before. She has to team-up with Lauren, a coworker who also just so happens to be the Grand Elders daughter. So, not only is the pressure on but Putnam doesnt exactly play well with others. The complications dont end there; Chess must take a blood oath of secrecy which puts her in a precarious situation with Downsides drug lords. Needless to say, the plot keeps you on your toes because youre constantly decoding magical rules, unearthing layer upon layer of bad guys and crossing your fingers that Putnam gets them before they get her. Youll spend most of this book feeling both horrified and hypnotized which proves to be a weird yet surprisingly satisfying combination.

I liked that Chess drug use is less prevalent in this novel than in previous installments. I actually thought of her as a heroine for the first time in this series. A few of her less desirable personality traits are strangely beginning to endear her to me thanks to Kane finally revealing more about her character. Chess will never be the perfect protagonist but thats also part of her charm. Urban Fantasy is full of beautiful people with strong morals so its refreshing to encounter one thats so un-hero like. I find it ironic that her drug addiction has actually saved her life a couple of times now too. Im starting to think that being a junkie might actually be a vital survival tool in Downside!

After their fallout in the previous book, Terrible cant stand to be near Chess but he cant seem to resist her either. Its an impossible situation thats bound to have an explosive outcome.

Narrative better in second book

Ok.. In all fairness the narrative improves with practice. The flow is better and the characterizations are better executed. I suppose the lady just needed a little practice with the style of writing. This book was done better than the last and convinced me to go ahead and purchase the last two books.. The narrative improves enough in the second half of the first book to give hope for the second and it improves enough through the second book to warrant giving the third the benefit of the doubt. The story is good enough that it is worth putting up with the few short comings of the reading that are left once the narrator has gotten the rythme of the reading down a little more smoothly. And let's face it guys, no one is perfect!

Fun book, bad reader

This is such a cute series, it's too bad audible couldn't get a better reader. Eileen Stevens reads like she was just called upon by the teacher to read out loud to the class. At times it sounds like she never bothered to read the book before she came to the recording studio. She also doesn't have a clue how to pronounce arcane words such as archmagus. Do a little research, woman!

Excellent

I read and enjoyed these books when they were first released, so when I saw them on audible I had to give them a listen. Eileen Stevens brought the characters alive, the wit and humor of the books, what made them so much fun to read is even more evident in the recordings. Highly recommended.

Great girl power fantasy

If you are into girl power fantasy this is the series for you. A strong female lead, sorcery, goblins and elves with a fast paced story line, what is not to love. Each book follows each other and you are left wanting more. Bit like having a cliff hanger at the end of each episode of FlashGordon. Would recommend

Wonderful and fast read

I can not remember when I last listened to a book this fast. I found my self finding excuses to sit down and listen to more. It is not a serious story at all but it is Great fun and full of action.

Another Great Raine Benares

I have become addicted to this entire series, as Raine Benares is my type of heroine. Not sure what she is doing, but forges on because it is the correct thing to do. As well as the great action and magic, the characters are creative and well developed. Of course, let's not forget the two main men in this series, one embodies all things bad while the other embodies all things good. How does the girl ever choose. Guess if she lives through being bonded to the evil stone and all those who wish to kill her or use her power over this great magic we might someday find out.

IT JUST KEEPS GETTING WEIRDER AND WEIRDER, IT DOES.....

Hello, this is a story about a lesbo cop and a vampire and/or vampires fighting it out in a maximum security prison. Thanks.

Vampires with real bite

Laura Caxton is the thinking lesbian's crumpet. Courageous under fire and in the face of impossible odds, a have a go heroine with a cute girlfriend and a kick ass job, a cop who kills vampires. Then it all goes horribly wrong when she goes too far interrogating a suspect and her U S Marshall's boss arrests her and she ends up in a maximum security prison. And that's when the fun starts. The vampire she didn't stake starts a deadly game of cat and mouse with Caxton and the inmates, where she has just 23 Hours to save the day - and her girlfriend - before a plague of vamps (think 40 Days of Night not Twilight) sweep through Pennsylvania and then the world.

This could have been a clichéd women in chains, dykes in prison book, but Wellington has made the fourth book in his vampire saga so much more. Filled with unforgettable moments, this edge of the seat ride is the true meaning of fast paced. An un-put-down able romp through the horror/police procedural genre that gives a shot in the arm to vampire tales made too palatable by the likes of the young adult fiction. It makes vamps evil once more. Highly recommended. I'm looking forward to book five.

So far, my favorite

So far, this is my favorite in his vampire series. I love the gritty feel of the prison, and can totally feel like I, there. The ending was a bit, meh. I expected more honestly. It was supposed to be a huge twist of the plot, but I was left disappointed honestly. I guess after four books in, I still don't feel Malvern's arch villain persona that she is supposed to have.

I keep Re-Listening to this one!

I enjoyed the first book, Accidental Sorcerer, but this one is even better. It is pretty much a guarantee that anyone who liked the first will love this one. The narrator is great, he portrays the characters so well you forget you are listening to only one voice. Though the focus shifts slightly from the main character of the first book to Mellisand, Gerald still plays a large and very interesting part in this one. In fact, it is his character that develops the most by the end of the story. I will definitely get the third one!

Boring

These characters have great potential inteacting with the characers in other K. E. Mills novels. The plot does nothing for the characters.

Could Gerald be that unlikeable?

I didn't enjoy this one as much as The Accidental Sorcerer. I found it hard to believe that the entire cast of characters, except for the 3 friends carried over from the first book, would have such an instant and intense dislike of someone who seems quite likeable, if a bit wishy washy. There seemed to be no reason at all for the dislike and ill treatment. Sure, everybody likes to root for the underdog, but I think they took it a bit far here. It just wasn't believable. I did enjoy the first book, so I may still give the third a try. Same great narrator in this one.

Ok read, not so good to listen to.

I think this book would have been a lot more interesting had I read it instead of listened to it. The narrator was just plain irritating and her exaggerated voices were a distraction and completely unnecessary.

I don't think I will purchase another audio book narrated by Celeste Ciulla.

Great Book, Narrator not a good match

I started out with the audio and while the narrator is good, the voice is just not right for the characters especially MIra. Once I switched over to the book I flew through it, and I was going to skip the audio's on the rest of the series but it looks like they changed narrators for the next two. Hopefully the voice is a better match.

Loved the book and thought it was a great start to an interesting series.

Book 1 needs a new Narrator

I wish I had read this book instead have getting it on Audio.. Narrator is Blan in her reading..... didn't even finish it. could get past an hour.

Angels among us!

I read the first book in this series, then when I saw it on Audible, didn't hesitate to purchase. Love the story, unfortunately didn't love Mr. Daniels' narration. Which is such a personal thing. Mr. Daniels interpretation was very spare considering the material. I also had trouble keeping track of various characters in the story as they all tended to sound the same. Not enough of a block to prevent future purchases of this series.. Nice to know even Fallen Angels have the same internal dialogue as the rest of us.

More Fun in the world of Remy Chandler

This book was far better than the first. The main reason I say this is that this book made it actually feel like a series. The first book had a clear solid ending, no loose ends. However, this one actually had some loose ends that I'm looking forward to seeing cleared up in the future.

I'd also like to add that Thomas expands the Remy Chandler world even more in this book making it a very rich and pleasant read. Thomas has put so much thought into it that the world seems like it could actually be real.

One final comment, I've been trying to figure out what series this reminds me of besides the Dresden Files, and I finally did: The Percy Jackson Series. You may think it's a stretch but I think that Remy Chandler is to the biblical world as Percy Jackson is to greek mythology.

An all around awesome read!

good but sad

This book was good but a little sad, with the loss of several people. Even though it was sad I would still say give it a try if you liked the first book.

OK but really not the best

I like the Narrator in these books but this Book 2 is not up to the caliber of what I expected. It's worth the time so all the books flow together.

I read the first of this series "A Kiss Before The Apocalypse" back in 2011. I loved the graphic novel feel of the plot: Remy Chandler, a Seraphim who walked away from Heaven after the war between the angels, has lived for millennia on Earth in human form but has only recently found and married the love of life, now has to risk everything to save the world from the apocalypse. It doesn't get better than that.

what's with the "Joisey" accent?

I love the Remy Chandler books so I figured hey! an audio book - super! and I listened to the sample (because I have learned) and Luke Daniels sounded good, so I bought it. OK - I have to say Luke Daniels sounds good UNTIL he gets to Remy Chandler. Now this super cool, awesome angel, working as a detective, golden armor hidden away, etc. speaks and OMG he sounds like a little caricature of a "Joisey" player! WHY!? Why on earth would anybody think this angel sounds like that!!??

Five stars for the book minus 2 stars for the terrible distracting accent...

Remy Chandler's Adventures Continue

This book's story line wasn't as good as the previous two. It was still very good and a fun read, but didn't quite live up to its potential.

However, though the story line may have had flaws there was a lot of great character development in this book. Remy seems to be coming to grip with the loss of his wife, and maybe even preparing to move on. Remy is also beginning to understand that he can be part human and part seraphim, and he seems to begin to embrace his seraphim part.

And once again, Thomas doesn't fail us in extending the world. My favorite scene was in Methuselah's Bar where Marlowe gets into some trouble with some unearthly customers.

Chilling

What made the experience of listening to Where Angels Fear to Tread the most enjoyable?

This book was a good thriller about the 'last battle' and the outcome.

I liked the way the characters were introduced and how they played with each other. It wasn't judgemental, but interesting how the characters played to the outcome of the last battle.

Remy sounds like he whines whenever he speaks. While his human voice must be different than his angelic voice, there MUST be a lower option for his human voice.

You just really didn't get to know or care about the characters and the story was a bit too basic.

Wonderful series and narrator

I've now listened to the first 6 books of the Anna Strong series and have thoroughly enjoyed them all. Each one is a new adventure and Dina Pearlman never fails to bring the characters to life and keep you enthralled. On more than one occasion I was tempted to take my Ipod into the car to listen on the way to work. I highly recommend them all.

3rd person

I like the Anna Strong series, but I wish it was written or read more in first person.
