Is there anything you would change about this book?

The story is decent - the writing occasionally borders on the "oh just get to the point" - but the narrator is what really drags this book down.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

A complete and total lack of subtlety - the narrator barely changed voices between individual characters, which isn't always a deal-breaker... but his ability to *act* the individual characters was 2 dimensional and wooden.

Was The Demonists worth the listening time?

Only if you're really into the genre and have nothing else better to listen to.

Traditional Tropes with New Spin

I bought Vibrations on a lark, and was surprised. It was an entertaining read. I was not anticipating enjoying it as much as I did. Vibrations is the traditional parallel world quest fantasy. Sam mysteriously travels to a new place and has to find a way home again. The main characters are suitably well rounded. And a few side characters are not. Still, the youngster in me who went to various martial arts classes four times a week for 15 years appreciated the many martial arts allusions and the creative magic system in the book. I will purchase the second one upon release.

Despite being an interesting and entertaining read, I found a few disappointing areas. There may be minor spoilers. As far as plot, it was pretty obvious from the beginning how Sam and the antagonist will resolve the plot conflict. However, the switch from the antagonist from being simply an obstructionist, to Sam needing to do a heist against the antagonist to steal information, to an all out battle with the antagonist was not very smoothly transitioned. It was plain that was were the plot was going but the psychological transition for the characters was abrupt. Concerning the style, there was a tendency for repetition of descriptions, particularly in character demeanor descriptions. Additionally, some of the dialogue was clunky and sounded like a old video game dialogue (mainly from a couple very minor characters).

Overall, Alex Beckham did a good job. I did not like some of his accents and articulations and they didn't seem consistent. But again, not a bad job. It does not help that his job was hindered a little by some audio mixing which made it apparent that some clips were recorded at different times and/or with different ambient noise.

Even with the issues mentioned, this book brought me back to the Narnia type of story where the accidental warrior stumbles into a new and strange situation and learns how to be a hero and discovers strength in oneself. But a scientific Narnia. I think this story needs a follow-up. I think there are interesting questions and maturity that can be uncovered.

This story is absolutely amazing!

The world building is startlingly impressive. The characters are smart, funny, ruthless, vulnerable, and real. The storytelling is rich and thoroughly entertaining. The narration was hands-down terrific and pitch perfect.

Octavius Septimus Stalk (my friends call me Oss) is one of the best characters Ive read in a long time. From the first few minutes I was hooked. It opens with a bang, I was immediately and absolutely immersed in the narration, and I loved every minute.

I can hardly wait for the next installment!

Charles Dickens Meets meets Harry Potter's Magic

In the books of Charles Dickens there are several stories of street urchins living under oppression, poverty, and cruelty. Living in destitution, hunger and danger such as in Oliver Twist led to hopelessness. In Keys: City of Keys, Book 1 [Audible Edition] our hero Oss is living in the horrors of a Dickensian world but he is smart, patient, skilled in weaponry and lives within a network of fellow street smart young adults and children who share the movements and secrets of the bad guys.

Like some of the wizards and witches in the Harry Potter series Oss has some magical powers chiefly control over locks and the ability to heal faster than normal folks. Oss is not a candidate for sainthood. He feels no remorse about murdering in order to stay safe even if knifing and killing someone is a much greatly penalty than deserved in what he perceives as the offense. He hates the gentry who live their lives in comfort and never help the poor. It is odd then that Oss's romantic partner is a member of that aristocracy.

Some readers will find Oss without morals, others will find him justified and more than a few will just see him as the hero of the story and not consider his morality. This is especially so as his enemies wound or kill good guys and embroil Oss in their evil plans. Oss is not evil. He is kind to his fellow rapscallions, friends, and his aristocratic lover as well as lover's brother, a Lord.

Hero or ruffian as the action progresses anything goes because the fate of the City (Oss's world) and it's inhabitants is at stake.

Love these characters!

I've been keeping up with Ms. Sutton's worlds since the first Demon book. They are all fascinating to me and the stories quite entertaining. Can hardly wait for the second book in this latest trilogy.

this is not an unabridged version

Where does Hot Demon in the City rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

the first thing I noticed is that the first fight scene is missing, 4 vampires walk into the bar with a women and a beaten up vampire, the bartender pulls his gun, then

the scene skips to the beaten up vampire being and the bartender with a ice pack on his eye.

some scenes are missing.

please check this out and fix it if possible.

I have listened other connie suttle books narrated by same narrator, those books were better on both counts. The dialogue was not as good in some places, and the female voices vere weak. Female voices were unure and more like a victim might sound than a strong warrior. The story was good. I will listen to book two and hope that it reaches up to the level of the authors other series.

ENTERTAINING. GOOD STORY LINE.

The beginning was a bit slow but after a few chapters into the story it began to get interesting. I like the plot of how Leksi and Kordevik ended up on earth and working in the same company. At the beginning, Leksi was not friendly to Kordevik but eventually she grew to like him. He, in turn fell in love with her. There was a mystery with lots of supernatural a being killed off and Kory and Leksi with their friends had to try and help the good guys. Quite a good storyline. Will continue next book.

It grew on me

What did you like best about Hot Demon in the City? What did you like least?

I don't know what I expected, maybe the stereotypical paranormal romance. But, this wasn't it. Granted the romance seemed to come out of nowhere, one moment he didn't care for her and the next he was kissing her forehead and calling her baby. But, this story actually has a plot. That doesn't focus on getting the two character's together. And that is wonderful.

What aspect of Traci Odoms performance would you have changed?

I'm not a fan of female narrators. I find male falsetto voices much more convincing than female baritone voices. Practically all of the male characters voices bother me. Lexi and Anita were find, even Hannah, but not the men.

Southern Gothic Horror

I really enjoyed this book. It was a classical horror novel with a modern twist. Imagine Salem's Lot crossed with The Witching Hour as told by Flannery O'Connor.

I can't say enough good things

All the books in this series are worth great reviews, but in my opinion this one topped them all - not an easy thing for the last (but hopefully not final) book in a series. I can't say anything about it, simply because it was so fun and action packed that anything other than gushing enthusiasm will give away part of the plot. I personally liked it so much that when it was done I wanted to start it over again from the beginning.

Excellent Story!

What did you love best about Rising Tide: Dark Innocence?

I loved everything from the title to the characters to the excellent writing.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Maura and Ron were my favorite characters, although I really liked the well-developed secondary characters, too.

Have you listened to any of Diana Steeles other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to Ms. Steele before. I greatly enjoyed her voice but I wished she hadn't repeated lines so often. That was distracting. Her pronunciation was off on a couple of words, too. Maybe Beacon needs stricter quality control.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Early in the book, when Ron had to rescue Maura, that was moving.

I will definitely listen to the next book in this series!

Fantastic YA Paranormal

Fantastic. I thoroughly loved this book. The lead character is Maura, a very unique young woman who never quite fits in. I think we can all relate to her. She goes through things that teenagers go through. The story was very detailed , but the pace was good. It is a very difficult balance as too many details can slow the pace. The author does a brilliant job of letting the reader experience things as Maura does which allows the reader to bond with Maura even more. The supporting characters were fleshed out nicely , each had their own individual quirks.

I listened to the audio book. The narrator was perfect. Her voice matched the story. If you don't get the right narrator, it can be a distraction.

MORE, I need MORE

After I read the first book I literally bought the rest of the series back to back. Finished the entire thing in less than a week; I just couldn't stop reading. So for books 2-5 I'm posting the same review as well my reviews don't have spoilers.

Ms. Schulte did it AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She took Greek Mythology and put great twists on them. I love how I had the basic classical knowledge and then she brought all the characters to life.

I love the relationship between Selene and Cheney, although to be honest there were times I found them both whiny and wished one of their friends, I think had Femi not had her hands full in another series and had been around just a tad more she'd have smacked them both once or twice.

I can't wait to see which characters Ms. Shulte is going to explore next.

Satisfying Resolution

I found this a really satisfying ending to this arc. Selene's struggle with her bond to Corbin is well-developed, and I liked it. The switching between 4 POVs is disconcerting, though.

Wonderful read

Loved this book. Loved all the books leading up to this. There were some twists and turns in the book. But personally I am very happy with the way it ended. Can't wait to see what happens with the rest of the coven.

Saved the best for last ( but read them in order)

Let me start by saying you have to rad the first four books to get fully invested in the characters and story, however, my opinion is this was the best book in the series.

You can fully appreciate the character development and where the story lines were going.

A very nice wrap to this series.
