    Oh well, I enjoyed it.
Having read all of the Arcane novels, I was glad to see Fallon Jones finally get some happiness in his life. I enjoyed the novel for the most part, and liked it better than some of the series. It was worth listening to if for nothing else to continue to learn more about the Arcane sagas. Was Isabella a bit far-fetched? Sure, but not intolerable.
    Nightmares!
It was hard for me to pay attention to the story, because of the creepy voices the narrator used for all the males!! I literally had nightmares! I was really looking forward to this book, but after the first 2 minutes, I could hardly wait to be finished!!! Not only were the male voices creepy, but the main female's voice made her seem like a total bimbo that spoke like a baby!
    Deep Conspiracy
Love Jayne Ann Krentz Arcane Society books. You can create so much from the idea and it can connect to so many different scenarios. It's limitless which makes her idea of the Arcane Society work so well. Her stories are engaging, make you use your brain,to help her characters solve their mysteries.Joyce Bean has a nice soothing voice that she can project to the characters making it easy to listen and enjoyable.
    couldn't stand Isabella
I usually enjoy Arcane books but this one fell flat for me, mostly due to Isabella's character. I felt as though she did a lot of whining and her background story wasn't that great. I did enjoy the beginning but it became too wordy and in depth to the physics of it all and i totally lost interest. Lastly i found the spark between Isabella and Fallon dull and unbelievable. I am usually really rooting for the couple to get together but this time i didn't find myself caring too much either way.
    Good story
I enjoy the Arcane Series. Victorian, present day, or off planet on the future. No matter what name she writes under all are wonderful.

    Frustrating
I'm not an expert on audible books, but I do listen to quite a few. This book made me roll my eyes atleast 20 times. If "in his minds eye" or "in her minds eye" was said one more time my itouch would be thrown into the fireplace! Running Scared by Lisa Jackson seems like a rushed write and edited even quicker. The man narrating this book could be the next Guy Smiley or some other game show host. Easily, one of the worst listens I've had in a long time.
    Running Scared
This was an interesting love story, but not the suspensful action usually prominent in her books.
Trite and Ridiculous--Don't waste your time
Jackson uses a limited plot, repetive vocabulary, and flat characters that limp along to her cliched resolution. On the upside, she uses the word 'b*st*rd' upwards of 30 times, although her next concession to vulgarity is scared 'spitless'.
Hearing a bad episode of Dynasty or Dallas.
Ok, I'll admit that unless a book is exceptionally good or really, really bad - as is the case with Running Scared - I generally don't take the time out of my tight schedule to write a review. Rate - yes. String sentences together - too painful a process for a non-writer. For the record, I'll dispense with any and all comments about this being a rewrite as I am unfamiliar with the original early career favorite. I selected this book for two reasons: 1) I'm a romantic suspense junkie and 2) the prospect of spending 18+ hours under the magical spell of Jack Garrett's take-me-away vocal talent was something I wasn't about to miss.
The wealthy Sullivan family and their kin are a lot of mean spirited, malicious, vindictive users of friend and foe alike. And the few that aren't have the chemical makeup of walking, seldom talking, spineless doormats. Flocked wallpaper has more going for it. It was like hearing a lengthy and sometimes badly scripted day or nightime soap opera. The too frequent trips down memory lane were like navigating emotional land mines, never knowing what was coming but sure, it would be sickening, interrupted the story flow and eventually killed my interest in the main characters and the plot.
But people I'm telling you this is an absolute waste of a credit that could have been enjoyed elsewhere. No matter how interesting the performance, Jack can't change what's in print. A better example of his work can be found in
Anna Jeffrey's "Salvation, Texas." Judging by the number of pages in both the original book "Wishes" and that of "Running Scared" this can only be labeled as a bad case of over writing. A much more cohesive, not to mention entertaining, read this could have been with brutal editing.
    waste of money!
i usually like lisa jackson, but this was so bad i couldn't wait for it to end.

    Members Reviews:
Hell hath no fury but a Lucky Man!
Sandra Brown shows once again why she is a master writer in Texas! Lucky. Her particular style of writing is one I resonate with. She takes her time and embeds you into the lives of the characters so that when the plot turns south, you are invested in helping them find the happy ending.
Okay Lucky Tyler is a handsome, ladies man who is avoiding being tied down when he enters the bar simply known as the place. In some messed up gentlemanly way, he defends the honor of a woman he barely knows and gets beat to a pulp doing it. When she leaves without so much as a thanks, Lucky feels jilted and tracks her down to get just that "a thanks." Being the Lucky man he is, he ends up spending the night with her romantically only to realize in the morning, she was gone and someone had burnt down a garage belonging to his floundering family business.
Investigations launched, the only one without an alibi is Lucky and being the Lucky man he is, unable to find "Dovey" the woman he spent the night with.
So Here's where it gets interesting... clearing Lucky's name turns out to be far more complicated because "Dovey" is Devon Haynes a reporter for a Dallas newspaper and Devon is married. Her husband is a convicted felon with an attitude( a douchebag) Poor Lucky(Such a contradiction) because he is actually falling in love with Devon who won't give him the time of day because she thinks there is still hope for her husband who, in this reviewers opinion is a tart.
All works out, in a weird sort of forgettable way. Lucky gets Devon to admit her love for him. Against his gentlemanly upbringing, He sleeps with her (oh no! A married woman?! what will the world come to? (Sorry for this moment of condescension)). And Lucky confronts douche bag husband to basically tell him, when you get out, I'm going to beat you senseless.
The resolution of this conundrum does not end with rose petals and butterflies but quite the opposite with the death of Lucky's sister in law, who he actually liked ( paternally). Tyler drilling( the family business) is still in financial ruin and Chase Tyler the eldest brother and widower, drinking heavily 8 months later.
Bottom Line: The story was a classic Sandra brown ( a reporter and cowboy). Be prepared to learn who these characters are not just have two people fall whismiscally in love with each other.
I love Sandra Brown as an author and if she is your first romance read. She is a class act.

    Pretty good
Story is good but narrator needs to learn how to say "grimaced" since the author uses it way too often. Listen at 1.5 speed and it's so much better.
I love all Stephnie Laurens books
I really enjoyed this book. She gave us a better understanding of Jack and who he is. I found it easy listening and set at a comfortable pace. Clarice was a wonderful character and hope to see more of her in the next few books.
    Gentle Rogue
I enjoyed reading this novel but listening to it was not nearly as enjoyable. The narrators voice ruined "James'" character for me. I would recommend this book as a "read only".
    Bad narrator or bad book?
Im not sure if it was the narrator that ruined it or the book. Maybe both. It was hard to keep listening but I did. Ill never listen to Jill tanner again.
    Ok
Narrative alright but wish she would have pronounced the word 'grimace' correctly..very irritating hearing it incorrectly spoken especially as it appears quite often in the text!!

Need More Brenda Jackson Books on Audible
I totally enjoyed this book. I was hesitant at first because I prefer to read the actual book instead of listening to audio. Actually I find it boring. However the narrator did a good job with it and she had me hooked. I am still going to buy the hard copy, as I am collector of Brenda's books. I look forward to hearing more books from Brenda Jackson on Audible (especially something from Westmoreland, Steele, Madaris family).
    Charmaine (Jamone's wife)
Finally - Brenda Jackson on Audible!
I have been waiting years for harlequin to release some of Brenda Jackson's books on audible. This particular title is part of a series but stands on it's on. The romance is dead on and the suspense is just as awesome. You can't go wrong with this book - enjoy!
    Voice didn't match the book
The book was great, however the reader...why can't we get an african american reader for african american books? Looking at the cover then hearing the voice was a complete disappointment for me. I finished the book but the reader completely through off the vibe of the book. I have no idea what the reviewer referring to that the voice was ethnic. NOT!

    A Sequal at its best!
All i can say is EJD has done it again. This was a great Part 2 to Sleeping with Strangers. I must laugh because i have the hardback book, but after listening to Sleeping with Strangers on Audible, I had to "listen" to Waking with Enemies. The narrator is fabulous. I can't wait to "listen" to more! Great Job!!! A must hear!
    You just never know!
Where does Waking with Enemies rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I listened to this series & its entertaining. If you like murder/mysteries with a bit of drama this is a series you might like. I have read other books by Eric Jerome Dickey & his style of writing, so I decided to listen to this series. If you are a fan of his take a chance, its not boring at all.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Gideon of course, he's the man.
What does Dion Graham bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Entertaining male voice. Makes you visualize.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    Beware of "Waking with Enemies"
Anticipating the next book in the series...
I listened to Sleeping with Strangers and Waking with Enemies consecutively. I must say that I loved these first two books of the series. The story was very well written and Dickey has left enough mystery to the the main character, Gideon, to make you eager to learn more in another installment. The narrator did a great job and his tone was just right for the dark subject matter. The sex scenes in the story were very hot and though they may not appeal to men, I think women will dig them and find Gideon super dangerously sexy. I was so caught up in the story that I was sad when it ended and equally chomping at the bit for the next installment.
So pornographic I had to skip entire chapters.
What did you like best about Waking with Enemies? What did you like least?
I like that he found peace with his "mother". I also like the reader and the plot of the story. The sex scenes were not just unnecessary but too long. I had listen to one 15 minutes sex scene after another. Sex with this girl, sex with that girl, then sex with both girls; to which seemed too have lasted a whole hour. I pressed the 30 sec fast forward about 50 times before the sex was over. Then shortly there was more sex. Not to mention the mother was a prostitute who was graphically molesting her son and everybody else.

    Loved it!
I agree wholeheartedly with the previous reviewer -- this is the best I've ever heard using two narrators. Joyce Bean's voice has a very pleasant tone and she does accents beautifully. Dick Hill's narration takes a little bit of getting used to because of his delivery style, but he also has a very pleasant voice and very clear enunciation. When reading 'in character', they are both amazing -- conversations between them flow easily with all of the nuances of the characters' personalities.
The only thing I thought was a bit unexpected about this story was the lack of tension. I was surprised at how easily the two main characters trusted each other and other people with no background information at all. I was also surprised at how often that worked out just fine -- with the CIA and all of those bad guys I expected a few more double crosses. Personally, I prefer this style so I was very pleased with the story.
And you REALLY don't want to miss those love scenes!
    shay
The fact that Dick Hill and Joyce Bean both narrated this book made it so very much more enjoyable for me. I have read it and listened to it and it was most certainly worth my credit. This is a definite keeper and you won't be disappointed! It's about time two narrators got together. I'll be looking for more books like this.
    PURRRRFECT
What a collaboration - Linda Howard's writing and Joyce Bean and Dick Hill's narration - it doesn't get better than that. This is mainly a thriller with romance and boy what a twist at the end.
Worth a credit? Yes - If you like deep plots, a handful of sub plots with a dash of romance and a sprig of violence and mild sex then this is for you.
    One of her best!
This is by far one of Linda Howard's best novels. The story is fast-paced and the dialog is well-written and even humorous in parts. The romance is sexy without being overblown, and the narration is outstanding! Money well spent!
    the best narration I've heard!
Kiss Me While I Sleep is a great book, and the narration by Joyce Bean and Dick Hill is fabulous.

If not for their history, if not for her, Jason wouldn't have been in that parked car.
Cain knows that whoever killed his brother probably isn't a stranger at all. But figuring out that person's identity is easier said than done - especially since the killer seems to be taunting them both: "watch me".

    Members Reviews:
    Glad it was on sale
Uh oh. This was pretty awful and had that "first draft" feeling. For a book marketed as romantic suspense, I have to say it fails in both categories. The leads talked at each other and I never felt any kind of connection, so the inevitable declarations of love had nothing to back it up. The suspense? Well, it was obvious who the killer was the first time he spoke and any reasonably intelligent 5-year-old would have picked up on it. On top of all that, the narrator gave the heroine an annoyingly perky voice and the hero a too-slow drawl that made him sound dull witted. Can't imagine I'll be trying any more Novak or anything else read by this narrator.
Exactly what the other reviewer said...
I wish I had read her review before purchasing but she was spot on! I didn't care what happened to any of the characters and the heroes slow drawl grated on my nerves the suspense just wasn't there
    I tried to like it
I hate to give a harsh critique, so I'll try not to do that here. Maybe it was the narrator (she has a nice tone, but sounded more like a news broadcaster), maybe it was the outrageousness of some of the events (the police alone gave me a headache), but I just couldn't get into this. It was a struggle.
    Fairly good book and storyline
This book was pretty good although Cain seem to lack the interest to draw me in. He was far to distance. But I like how Brenda has a way of catching you off guard with who the villain is.
    Ms. Novak!!!
Ms. Novak never let's me down! this book was great and so is the series so far..

    Excellent
This book is an excellent Jayne Ann Krentz. It has her usual flair, intrigue and happy ending. Excellent villains, heroes and heroines.
    Wonderful story.
Full of mystery and intrigue. Keeps you guessing to the end. I just wish audible had a rating system like movies. This is full of swearing, I'd say a PG-13 at the least. That's the only reason it didn't get 5 stars. I could have done without all the language.
    It was OK
What made the experience of listening to Lost and Found the most enjoyable?
I can't rave over this book. It was neither great nor awful. I enjoyed it. I doubt I'll ever listen to it again though. It just didn't touch me in that way.
Would you recommend Lost and Found to your friends? Why or why not?
Very few of my friends read romantic suspense. If anyone asked me about it and it was a genre they like, I'd say it's a fine book, but not outstanding.
What does Sandra Burr bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
She did a very good job keeping the voices separate. I enjoy listening to books she narrates.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    Nope.
Mystery and romance, can't beat it.
If you could sum up Lost and Found in three words, what would they be?
    Interesting, twisting and romantic.
What other book might you compare Lost and Found to and why?
Maybe Nora Roberts Blue Smoke. Although not quite as gripping as Nora Roberts work, it has the same kind of elements..... trying to figure out who the real bad guy is even though you know the main characters will end up together. Plenty of chemistry and the female lead is not a screaming sissy.
Have you listened to any of Sandra Burrs other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've listened to Nora Roberts Three Sisters Trilogy several times and really enjoy this narrator. There is enough difference in the characters so you don't have to guess who is suppose to be speaking.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Surprisingly, it was when Katie was talking to Mack's daughter. While there was no great drama, the way she let her know that maybe it was time to let her father have his own life was very gentle and insightful.
    Any additional comments?
Nora Roberts work is my favorite and I have most of her audible books, but I've recently started listening to Jayne Krentz and enjoy it enough to now have most of her work as well.

"Johansen delivers an exhilarating thriller filled with her trademark paranormal elements, truly heinous villains, and intriguing, multidimensional heroes. This is romantic suspense that will keep the author's fans on the edge of their seats." (

    Enjoyable
I enjoyed this fantasy/romance. A little long. I didn't like the sound effects used to depict someone on the phone (tinny), but that's just a small irritation. The narrator is good, not great.
Good story line - poor narration
The story was good. But the narration was overly dramatic and extremely annoying.
just couldn't get into it but good narrator!
just couldn't get into it at all. and I love this genre and used to love this author. maybe it was just a miss for me. it won't stop me from buying other Iris Johanson books but if you're deciding between a few I'd put this at the bottom of the list.
    the narrator was good though!!
    Brilliant story
Iris Johansen is by far my favorite author! This story is brilliantly written to weave paranormal into the reluctant personalities of ordinary people. The story line will keep you wanting more and more!
Jennifer Van Dyke does a good job with the reading, giving characters their own voice and changing voice tones and inflections. Another great novel by Johansen!!
    Very enjoyable
Characters were very likable, narration was okay, story was fast paced and very interesting. Good ending, nothing surprising or twisting, but satisfying. I always enjoy Iris Johansen, and this was no exception! Worth a listen!
