Blah
Im more into strong female leads but I loved the gemeral odea of crystal bones and the plot line was amazing. My only problem with it was the abrupt emding to the series. Imensely dissappointing.
Five Stars
Another great book that my grandson enjoyed reading
A Solid Conclusion to an Entertaining Fantasy YA Trilogy
This is the final book in a fantasy YA trilogy, following after The Call of Eiran and The Crystal Bones. I liked it a lot and strongly recommend the series, which has good characterization, an interesting fantasy mythology, and a fun story for fans of superpowered teens on the run, which seems to have become its own genre. I'd give it four and half stars if I could, but I'll round up for successfully wrapping up such a fun trilogy.
In this one, the half-fae twins, Cynthe and Diello, and their companions travel to the two last kingdoms on their quest - one populated by a shapeshifting race and one by goblins. The shapeshifters' eagle forms, the various secret caverns, and the goblin kingdom all reminded me a little bit of Tolkien, but in a good way. Author C. Aubrey Hall brings her own ideas to the mix, and there is a great sense of discovery as the twins and their friends meet the various characters and learn about the secretive societies on their quest.
Hall has a great touch with action scenes, and we're treated to any number of chases and battles, but she's also great with characters. I thought the new characters like Qod and Reeshwin were very well realized and would have loved to have seen more of them.
I really only have two mild complaints. One is that this book moves too quickly, especially near the end. I didn't feel that Hall cheated, and the resolution was well written and made sense, but think this would have been better as four books, so that we could have spent some more time in the goblin and fae kingdoms. The other is that as Diello's powers grow, Cynthe becomes less and less involved in the plot. She's still a strong, well written character, but this is more and more a story about Diello, not about the two twins.
Not flawless, but still want to know what becomes of these young people
This third installment of THE FAELIN CHRONICLES series, MAGE FIRE, has fraternal twins Cynthe and Diello trying to recover the sword Eiran and its scabbard as well as their little sister Amelina from a kidnapper. At this point, the twins are about fourteen years old, and Amelina is about four. The youngsters are half-Fae and half-human; the twins have magical powers but they are untrained yet and, since they are half human, are unsure how much power they will end up having.
The twins find many new friends and enemies in this conclusion.
