    Author: Al Franken
    Narrator: Al Franken
    Format: Abridged
    Length: 6 hrs
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-16-99
    Publisher: Bantam Doubleday Dell Audio

    Genres: Comedy, Satire
    Publisher's Summary:
Follow the Franken campaign from its infancy as the candidate pledges "to walk the state of New Hampshire, diagonally and then from side to side." As he candidly admits "causing pain in his marriage," then boldly refuses to dignify any questions from the media regarding past, present, or future sexual behavior.
Go behind the scenes and meet Team Franken, the candidate's brain trust. Including brother and deputy campaign manager Otto, a recovering sex addict and alcoholic. Campaign manager Norm Ornstein, the think-tank policy wonk who masterminds the single-issue (ATM fees) campaign. Media consultant Dick Morris, who exploits the shocking millennium bug-induced "ATM meltdown" by building an ad campaign around a diabetic woman who loses her right foot after computers erase all her ATM deposits. And former Grizzly Adams star Dan Haggerty.
Cheer as Franken stuns the pundits by defeating Al Gore for the Democratic nomination, then is swept into office with a landslide victory over Newt Gingrich. As he chooses an all-Jewish Cabinet because "America doesn't want a Cabinet that looks like America, it wants a Cabinet the President is comfortable with."

    best of al's books.
I think this is the funniest of Franken's books. It spoofs all campaigns and politicians of recent years, but mostly it makes fun of the public. Who but American voters would consider a candidate based on a one issue platform: Rid the world of ATM fees. Having Al read the book makes it even better. I highly recommend.
    Overlooked Classic
Great satire of the presidential election process, right down to the candidate turning a non-issue (ATM fees) into an entire platform, and dirty tricksters (the fictional brother who literally bashes opponents with a 2x4). Franken's reading does add a lot to it... don't miss this one.
Good but get the one about Fox first
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes it was pretty funny, but I liked his other book better
What other book might you compare Why Not Me? to and why?
the lying liars Which was better
What about Al Frankens performance did you like?
You can tell he has been in comedy for a long time
    Funny, but a bit long
If you could sum up Why Not Me? in three words, what would they be?
    Funny, but lengthy
Who was your favorite character and why?
Otto Franken is tough to beat. I just love the idiot who never learns or changes.
What does Al Franken bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
His delivery on his material makes it come alive.

    Publisher's Summary:
P.J. O'Rourke traces his development from hippie protester to conservative grouch to jaded humorist. Along the way, we are privy to his strange, twisted days as editor in chief of National Lampoon, as well as the in-depth looks at appropriate sports for middle-aged Republicans, namely those which can be engaged in with a smuggled Havana between the teeth - fly-fishing, bird hunting, deep-sea fishing, and of course, golf. Plus, you'll hear O'Rourke's take on the Virtues of Automobiles - because what good was oil doing sitting in the ground for millions of years? - and many other hilarious rants in this off-the-wall collection by America's premier political humorist.

usual great PJ, but PATHETIC sound quality
As a PJ admirer, I read this collection of old articles plus witty funny author's notes, years ago. The audiobook version is just PATHETIC, I am asking for a refund: the audio quality is so bad is it unbearable, impossible to listen. It is obviously a cassette tape remastered, and a bad job at it, anyway. First time I got screwed by Audible, after hundred of great books.
    great and not so great
This one is not PJ at his best overall (and I am a confirmed fan). The earlier stuff is dated but the fishing and hunting are hilarious. Definitely worth a listen, though
    Good content, poor audio quality
As a long-time fan, I was happy to see more titles form PJ, and while I enjoyed the content (yes, the hunting, fishing and automotive pieces are gems), the whole experience was marred a bit by the poor audio recording.
    MORE PJ!
    Superb!
Congratulations Audible! This 6 hour audio of P J o'Rourke's satire is excellent. It is extremely funny, sometimes even sad and educational. I feel enriched by this download and already listened to it twice while driving.

Welcome to the wonderful world of under-evolved bosses, style-of-the-week buzzword management, hapless coworkers, and other worthy fodder. Sound like your company? You'll be convinced he's spying on your own company. As he says, "No matter how absurd I try and make things, I can't stay ahead of what people are experiencing in their own workplaces."

    Editorial Reviews:
The Dilbert books have been wildly successful because author Adams hits the "hot button," as well as the funny bone, of anyone who's ever worked for a corporation. This book presents the everyday foibles in the world of work with a view from the cubicle. Adams's voice sounds like the guy in the cubicle next to yours, who has learned to deal with the corporate bureaucracy while poking fun at it. With just the right touch of sarcasm in his narration, Adams will have you laughing while you're shouting, "He's right!" Adams wins the Management Guru award hands down.

    Dilbert
For those who work in the corporate world, "The Dilbert Principle" is full of hilarious truths. For those who have never worked in a corporate enviroment, this book will give you a peek at this sometimes inane world. Scott Adam's comic genius comes from observing the many absurd decisions. policies, and situations that come in the daily grind of business life.
It just does not get any funnier than this
I originally had this on cassette, but lost the cassette years ago. It was worth repurchasing, and I am enjoying it just as much now as I did years ago. The fact that this is read by the author makes it even better. This is one of those audiobooks that should be part of your permanent library.
    The master of office humour
I've bought all of Scott Adams' titles at Audible
(there are actually 3, but only 2 seem to come
    up on Audible's search engine).
A lot of the material is repetitive (over the 3 titles),
but every so often you'll come across an observation
that makes you laugh out loud, instead of just smiling.
Entertaining, funny, yet makes you think
Would you consider the audio edition of The Dilbert Principle to be better than the print version?
Not necessarily. I enjoy good old fashioned books still, however I take the audio option in order to be able to have the time to finish the book. I am always short on time, and its nice to listen to stories or topics I enjoy while typing away at the computer or sitting in traffic.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dilbert Principle?
Snippits of real life management blunders that make you laugh and shake your head.
What does Scott Adams bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I enjoy his narration. It brings to life the book, and makes me think of his comics that I ejoy so much.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It is a short book, so I was able to listen to it all in one sitting.
    Any additional comments?
Light-hearted book on management in businesses, taken to the extreme. :)

    Publisher's Summary:
Fed up with the Republican Right? Then you'll love Al Franken's scathingly hilarious look at America's largest talk show host and his conservative cronies. Hear this Emmy-winning Saturday Night Live writer's thoughts on exploding Medicare costs ("Why not shoot the elderly into space?"), feminism ("Limbaugh was railing about how feminists believe that all heterosexual sex is rape. The thing is, though, I know a lot of women, almost all of whom consider themselves feminists, and I know of only one who holds this belief. And we've been married nearly twenty years"), and Rush Limbaugh's fact-checker, the man with "the easiest job in America." Funny yet uncompromisingly fair, Franken tackles the issues - and the politicians - in ways few have dared.

"[Al Franken is] the man responsible for some of the most brilliant political satire of our time." (New York Post )
    Members Reviews:
Give us the rest of it
The only drawback is that it is abridged. I just finished listening to "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them," and, hungry for more, I thought I'd revisit Franken's other major expose of right-wing mendacity. Now that Lies and the Lying Liars is a best-seller, the publishers ought to get Franken to read the rest of this one for the audio version. I need to listen to something fun on the subway.
The main reason for Rush Limbaugh's weight loss
Anybody who ever watched Rush's disturbing t.v. show had to have seen this book coming. Rush caters to those Americans who are too lazy to think for themselves, and would prefer to be spoon fed "truths". The show was run like an info-mercial, with canned applause coming from the neatly dressed sheeplike audience.
"Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" is about exposing the sillyness of Rush, but it is mostly about the willingness of the conservatives in our government to overlook their own short-comings while exposing the short-comings of those they don't agree with. Al Franken doesn't try to defend democrats, he simply tries to show the absurd hypocracy of many of the conservative republicans.
In closing, I bought this book in print for myself and I loved it so much that I bought it for my mom. My mom loved it, and what my mom says goes.
    Wonderful!
Franken's take on Swift's A Modest Proposal (the bit about getting Medicare costs down) had me laughing out loud - satire at its best. The audio presentation is first quality and a pleasure to listen to.
    Hilarious, insightful
Al Franken's work may make some people angry, but it's among the funniest political commentary out there, and it's also intelligent and based on more than the bombastic rantings he so deftly harpoons.
    Classic Al Franken
A short and easy listen from Al Franken, this book is hilarious. Throughout it Al makes observations and points out various things in the hilarious way that only he can. Though the book's title is specifically focused on Rush Limbaugh, Al talks about plenty of other people and things throughout it. I love that he narrated the book himself and his dead-pan delivery is half of what makes the book so funny.

Master wit Mark Twain selected these 27 stories himself by 15 of his favorite 19th century authors. The order follows that which Twain placed them in in the original anthology, published in 1888. He indulged his comic fancy rather than making a textbook in which all themes or authors are placed together, saying that "This way you will have to peruse the whole thing before discovering that one of your favorites is not included." However, it is no joke that these are the authors represented: Charles Dudley Warner, Thomas Bailey Aldrich, Eugene Field, William D. Howells, James M. Bailey, Joel Chandler Harris, Katherine Kent Child Walker, Robert J. Burdette, Sam Davis, Artemus Ward, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Francis Lee Pratt, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Frederick W. Cozzens, and Twain himself.

    Must Read Period Peice
Where does Mark Twain's Library of Humor rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
    Upper Mid.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Twain, talented expression of the times.
Which character as performed by Marni Webb and Richard Russ was your favorite?
The guy who slept alone in a warm bed.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    Not yet.
    Any additional comments?
    No
    Mixed bag
Good stories, some of which are well narrated, but not as interesting as the title suggests. These are mainly stories by other authors, not Twain. And while some are quite good, others are downright boring. OK for historical perspective.

    Title: The Coloring Book

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 47 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-09-15
    Publisher: Hachette Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 679 votes
    Genres: Comedy, Satire
    Publisher's Summary:
From former SNL "Weekend Update" host and legendary stand-up comedian Colin Quinn comes a controversial and laugh-out-loud investigation into cultural and ethnic stereotypes.
Colin Quinn has noticed a trend during his decades on the road - that Americans' increasing political correctness and sensitivity have forced us to tiptoe around the subjects of race and ethnicity altogether. Colin wants to know: What are we all so afraid of? Every ethnic group has differences, everyone brings something different to the table, and this diversity should be celebrated, not denied. So why has acknowledging these cultural differences become so taboo?
In The Coloring Book, Colin, a native New Yorker, tackles this issue head-on while taking us on a trip through the insane melting pot of 1970s Brooklyn, the many, many dive bars of 1980s Manhattan, the comedy scene of the 1990s, and post-9/11 America. He mixes his incredibly candid and hilarious personal experiences with no-holds-barred observations to definitively decide, at least in his own mind, which stereotypes are funny, which stereotypes are based on truths, which have become totally distorted over time, and which are actually offensive to each group and why.
As it pokes holes in the tapestry of fear that has overtaken discussions about race, The Coloring Book serves as an antidote to our paralysis when it comes to laughing at ourselves...and others.
    Members Reviews:
    Colin Quinn is brilliant!
Colin Quinn is brilliant and this book shows it. If you loved his one man show then you will love this book! Part memoir, part study of New York City and current events without getting overtly political. Colin Quinn really might be the best man in America to have a discussion about race.
    Smart,Funny,Provocative
I absolutely loved this book. Colin delivered a beautifully written, incisive, hilarious audio-book. So happy he read it because his distinctive speaking voice significantly adds to the experience. It was like hanging out with him without anyone to interrupt. 5 Stars All Around! Only wish it were longer.
Take a Seat James Joyce, There's a New Kid in Town
Despite having the grating voice of a 50 year chain smoker gargling with shards of glass, Colin Quinn's (CQ as he prefers to be called affectionately by his dozens of fans) audio performance warms the heart, soothes the soul, and inspires the mind.
After listening intently in my car while driving around the ethnic part of town, I really feel like he helped me to "get it" as the hip, in-the-know types refer to understanding PoC (this abbreviation means 'persons of color') and now, thanks to CQ ;) I aspire to meet some Haitians.
Colin Quinn is not just a Renaissance Man to me, no. After listening to his charming stories about Chinese work ethic and Jamaicans bedding white women, I feel like he's a Renaissance Friend.
Mandatory reading for all Generation Gleers.
If you look past the terrible book cover, past the god awful book name and actually read this book you will come away extremely happy. The book is funny, it's smart and it's real. Colin is doing the nation a service with this book and I truly feel 88% of our face issues could be solved in just days by making kids in high school read this.
Again super enjoyable read - no matter your politics you will love this.

In this outrageous collection of fake letters to the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, were offered a startling inside look at whats on the minds of Americans today. Even a Harvard classmate re-appears with a not-so-subtle demand for money. Obama, whos obviously a very busy man, sometimes answers with a brief innocuous letter of his own.
Echoing another classic of US history, Alexis de Tocquevilles Democracy In America, Obama Confidential offers a vivid, consistently amusing snapshot of America in the second decade of the 21st century, with hilarious results.

But why should a humorist stick to the workplace when there are so many other great subjects to explore? What about politics? Religion? Malfunctioning underpants?
Despite some fans who wish he would "Stick to Drawing Comics, Monkey Brain!" Adams now offers more than 150 short pieces on every slice of human existence, from airport fiascos to wedding planning, from his doughnut theory of the universe to the menace of car singing. Mildly Entertaining
I have to concur with the title, stick to drawing comics. I think I was immediately put off by the prologue and the borderline ego-centric tone Scott's success has seemed to bring him. I guess I expected a different person.
Bottom line: A collection of short paragraph rants better suited for a bathroom book than an audio book. If I had seen it in print, I would have never bought it. But I love Dilbert!
    lost in thought
Open minded, observant of the world in a funny way and great ideas. You do not need to be a Dilbert fan to enjoy this book. can not wait to hear more.
    Wonderfully Dark and Twisted
The best description I can think of would be if "Everything I need to know I learned in kindergarten" had been written by an evil clown.
Adds some character to the Dilbert creator
Not much of a story (as stated in the description), but tons of funny little quips I thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely made me laugh more than a few times on my work commute and gym routine. Scott Adams is the most optimistic skeptic I've ever seen.
    95 Cents for Members! Awesome!
Would you consider the audio edition of Stick to Drawing Comics, Monkey Brain! to be better than the print version?
Probably better on audio as it is great for the car.
What other book might you compare Stick to Drawing Comics, Monkey Brain! to and why?
Adams' How to Fail.... book has a couple of the same observations, but the stories here are very short. The narrator is better and the stories are funny.
Which character as performed by William Dufris was your favorite?
The narrator is great, I just finished the How to Fail...and the narrator was rather dull. This guy is much better.
    Any additional comments?
Great book. It cost less than a dollar. It is a bunch of short silly observations, sure some aren't as funny as others, but you are getting nearly 10 hours of entertainment for less than a dollar.
