Dazzlingly Funny!

Another first-rate outting for comedy team Mitchell and Webb! I have yet to be disappointed by the material from this duo. David Mitchell's diatribe on Malmaison hotels had me laughing out loud on the subway. Be sure to try this one, as well as anything else--audio or video--from M&W. You will have an hour's worth of laughs from "How to Cope..." Enjoy!

Hillarious!

That was a great laugh, especially the chapters on coffee and being dumped. One or two jokes don't translate too well if you're not English (I didn't really get the Mal Maison hotel bit) but overall it's great.

I wish there were more!

Mitchell and Webb alternate stories in this hour-long book about how to cope with a variety of issues. I would listen to seven more hours of this and hope they write another book like this. I'm currently listening to Mitchell's "Backstory" and recommend it as well!

P.S. You don't have to be a fan of Mitchell or Webb to enjoy this book. It stands on its own two feet.

Wish it was a little longer! So funny.

Their observations on life are just too richly good to not have more of them! I knew nothing about these guys, but I enjoy British humor, so gave them a shot. so glad I did.

Straining too much; not funny.

Unlike their earlier book, "Plato and a Platypus Walk Into a Bar," which was brilliant and witty, this book is neither. They can be forgiven for the heavy subject matter, death, the soul, and afterlife, and for the depressed philosophers who dwelled on them, but not for bad jokes! There are plenty of opportunities for black humor, but I found little that was funny. The jokes seem terribly strained and not very clever whether taken in or out of context. Of course, they may say that I didn't like it because I am in denial, just like everybody else who has not chosen suicide, but I got more pleasure out of reading the existentialist philosophers themselves than listening to this book. I guess they've reached the limit of how far one can carry this style, but I'll give them an extra star for trying.

Love the way these guys take a potentially difficult topic and bring humor to it in a way that's very informative. Good discussion and information from a variety of different perspectives. Would definitely recommend.

I always thought James May was the more clever and proper of the three Top Gear englishmen. And here in this book he continues that. Basically, this book is just random thoughts that he's jotted down on paper and somebody convinced him to read it into a microphone.

I'm a motor head and I love Jame's May's sense of humor. It really works on tv when he was playing off Clarkson and Hammond on Top Gear. It just seems to fall flat here though. I was looking forward to it but it ended up a disappointment.

Loved it! It's great just to chill out with James May. It's quite like I would imagine going to the pub with him would be like. He writes in separate commentaries/essays. Similar to his other books, like Notes From The Hard Shoulder. I like that he reads his own audiobooks. It's very entertaining. He's an interesting bloke.

Entertaining, but not quite 5 stars

Not a ton of substance, but witty British humor at it's finest. It would've been nice to have more car related materials, and it was a bit short.

Entertaining...

If you like werewolves and you have some sense of humor you will like this audiobook. It respects the myth (unlike they have done with vampires so many times...) and gives you a new and modern perspective of what a werewolf should do in these days. I really enjoyed it and it will be one of the audiobooks that i will listen more than one time.

Fun and Educational - Made me want to get bitten!

This was one of the stranger choices I have made on Audible, and I am really glad I took the risk. Pretty much what it says - an owner's manual for your new werewolf body. The narrator is perfect - he has a dry, clinical style that remains interesting and easy to listen too. He could just as easily be talking about how to refinish your dining room table, yet manages to convey a sense of authenticity that reinforces the excellent writing. Too bad most 'real' manuals are not as thorough or well-done as this one. I laughed out loud more than once, and thoroughly enjoyed The Werewolf's Guide to Life from 'cover' to 'cover'.

FANTASTIC book!!

I am a HUGE werewolf fan, and this book was PERFECT for any werewolf fan! Fantastic pace, fantastic information, cleverly written, mythology clearly researched and just all around interesting! I have recommended this book to friends and I just loved loved loved it!

I expected a LOT better from my second favorite comedian. As much as I love David Cross, this audio book just sort of drags on with laughs few and far between. Nowhere near the quality of his stand-up material.

Hilarious but a little preachy

Yes, the audiobook had many additions to the book that were hilarious, but it gets really preachy, so I'd have to recommend it to someone very open minded.

There wasn't any story. It was a collection of essays.

What does David Cross bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

LOTS of things. He ad-libbed a whole lot, and there were TONS of changes (an entire chapter was put to music, special guest stars etc) that made it SO much better than the book.

Painful! The first hour and a half was great and funny, then he had a "robot" read some of it - which was not understandable. Not long after that, he had a band sing six pages of a list he had made of character ideas for indy movie directors. The idea was derivative - I've heard that on Adam Carolla - indy movie ideas...

Some bits funny, some not

I always enjoy Wilmore's spots on The Daily Show. His mild take on racism has some unexpected reversals -- like the title, "I'd rather we got casinos". The bits in this book are in the same vein but most go on too long and lack punch. I would say it's amusing most of the time and funny only some of the time. His delivery is perfect though. He is an excellent narrator.

Great performance but short

Larry did a great job reading it, but it's too short for the money. I was also hoping for something funny but also profound. I just found some of the essays silly.

great read

Ok, he is not the traditional religious writer, but he usually makes sense. I had the feeling he truely tried to respect the religious opinions of others, but was not drawn into their madness. Who would have thought that this man, this potty mouth man, could so articulate such a complex subject and still make me laugh. Well worth the time and money for this book.

It was like being at a Louis Black concert!

Louis Black is one of my favorite comedians and this is my first comedy novel. It was just like watching a live show as he narrated the stories. There were laughs and smiles throughout! There is a part where he narrates a radio show that he did a few years ago, that kind of dragged, but it was only one chapter. Louis makes us look realistically at the human condition, and especially the humor in religion. I love his perspective! This is not a book for the organized religious however, only the open minded :)

Loved it!

An unadulterated deliniation of the humor found in religions across the globe. From the radical to the ridiculous, you'll hear about some points you knew and several you probably didn't about the faith of the country and the world. If you can't both take your faith seriously AND take a joke - this probably isn't for you. But if you can, you'll laugh yourself silly.

Hearing him is the difference.

I have read the paperback book twice. I have listened to the audibile three times. Hearing him vocalize the exclamation makes all the difference.

I have seen his live show twice. While the audibile gives you the voice of this comical genius I would still have to say seeing him live is better.

As an Atheist I love to read books that challenge religions. Lewis is not an out right Atheist, yet he does challenge all religions. Great work. Great sound. Great overall content.

Black's customary energy and anger come through. He has moments in which he displays some of the angry humor that is so effective politically. But, ultimately, he's a man of more than a little faith. Like Mulder on the X-Files, he -wants- to believe, and he's coming up with justifications. Gullible ones.

Hilarious

I picked this one up despite the negative comments and boy was I glad. I've listened to this twice while at work and laughed out loud on several occasions. I recommend this to anyone with a funny bone.

I thought this was great. I could relate to the huge family moments and the generation gaps. He's very clever in his sarcasm.

5-Hours of Stand-Up Comedy By Leary

I read this book before I happened to purchase the audio version and loved it. The voiced version didn't let me down. "Why We Suck" sounds JUST as if Leary was riffing on stage for a full 5 hours about things he hates. This might sound boring to some but trust me, it's well worth the listen.

Really Deep Insights

I see that some people found the book offensive - our lives are not polite, delicate, flowery or full of sun light kind of lives - life is tough and shit happens all of the time. Denis has a unique perspective but a fairly honest one and a very funny way for expressing it. Some chapters were a little drawn out but all in all an excellent excellent read.

If you like Denis Leary , you will enjoy this.

A fun listen, i caught myself laughing out loud more than once at work and in the car.Something to take your mind off our current times and have a laugh.
