    Publisher's Summary:
Eve Duncan's job is to put a face on the faceless victims of violent crimes. Her work not only comforts their survivors, but helps catch their killers. But there is another, more personal reason that Eve Duncan is driven to do the kind of work she does, a dark nightmare from a past she can never bury. And as she works on the skull of a newly discovered victim, that past is about to return all over again.
The victim is a Jane Doe found murdered, her face erased beyond recognition. But whoever killed her wasn't just trying to hide her identity. The plan was far more horrifying. For as the face forms under Eve's skilled hands, she is about to get the shock of her life. The victim is someone she knows all too well. Someone who isn't dead. Yet.
Instantly Eve's peaceful life is shattered. The sanctuary of the lakeside cottage she shares with Atlanta detective Joe Quinn and their adopted daughter Jane has been invaded by a killer who's sent the grimmest of threats: the face of his next victim. To stop him, Eve must put her own life in the balance and question everything and everyone she trusts. Not even Quinn can go where Eve must go this time.
As the trail of faceless bodies leads to a chilling revelation, Eve finds herself trying to catch a master murderer whose grisly work is a testament to a mind warped by perversion and revenge. Now she must pit her skills against his in a showdown where the stakes are life itself, and where the unbearable cost of failure will make Eve's own murder seem like a mercy killing.

    great read
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
It is a short book but very well written and the narrator has a great voice range
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
    There were several plot twists
    Not as good as usual
Both the reader and the story leave something to be desired here. The reader's Southern and British accents are hard to distinguish between, and she is very inconsistent in how she has Jane speaking. The love angle was practically non-existent and the plot had no surprises--a disappointing effort from an author who is usually quite good. Earlier books in the Eve Duncan series are much better.

    An underrated series
Nancy Bell never disappoints. This cozy muystery series is so charming, but if you haven't read the preceding books , please postpone this one until its turn comes around. You'll probably find yourself reading these books in a Texas drawl which will make the whole experience even funnier because Bell's humor is southern and her turn of phrase is just perfect. These books are such relaxing and pleasant reads that you'll hate when the last page comes. J.R., the 12 year old narrator, is well ajusted despite being taken from his mother, " a nervous type", after the death of his father who was Biggie's son. His adventures with the warm, wonderful and clever Biggie are just plain old fun. Biggie's cook/housekeeper Willie Mae and her husband Rosebud add tremendously to the stories, and Willie Mae's menus will have you drooling all over yourself. Then, of course, there's J.R.'s best friend, the spunky Monica Sontag, who only has half a head of hair because she was set too close to the fire when she was a baby. On top of all that, there are the townspeople of Job's Crossing, all of whom are diverse and quirky. This series is a real winner, and I hope it continues for a very long time.
    I love this series.
I love this series, have read all of them, and look forward to acquiring the latest because I enjoy reading about Biggie, J.R., Willie Mae and her husband. Being a life-long Texan, I recognize the dialogue as being right-on for the location, and Ms. Bell brings the characters to life for me. I hope Nancy Bell never stops writing the Biggie series.
    A trip to bountiful
It is such a pleasant escape to go to Job's Crossing, Texas, and spend a little time with Biggie and J.R., to go down to the tea room and schmooze with the patrons--maybe have a piece of chocolate pie. The plot isn't too much, as mysteries go, but who cares? The characters and the atmosphere are what a reader needs after all the bloody violence of mysteries that top the best seller lists. I'm not usually a great fan of "cozy" whodunits; still, from time to time they are the perfect antidote. Nancy Bell knows her place and people well, and I enjoy going with her.
    funny, light reading
I always enjoy the "Biggie" novels...Biggie is an attractive character full of wit and down to earth common sense....her supporting cast is equally fun and entertaining. I read these books more for the characters and their lives than the mystery itself...I keep coming back to read what has happened in their lives since the last book!!
    Love Biggie!
I love these books. Wish there were more!!!

"A devilishly good plotter...[Robinson's] characterizations are so subtle that even the psychological profiler is stumped." (New York Times Book Review)

    Excellent Police Procedural
Peter Robinson gives us another entry in the series of police procedurals set in Yorkshire and featuring Inspector Banks. Fully realized characters, well-drawn setting. Plotting a little hokey near the end with some breathless action not in keeping with Robinson's normally highly realistic style. Doesn't ruin it; just a bit melodramatic for Robinson.
The reader is masterful: wide range of great voice characterizations; every phrase read for meaning.
Highly recommended, if not quite so good as Robinson's "In a Dry Season".
    Hit
This author is getting better and better. This story is a refreshing twist on the serial killer motif. There is a small stumble near the end of the book, but it is very slight and doesn't marr a great book.
Reader kept me from buying this book
I can listen to a wide variety of readers. But this reader put me off to the point where I refused to get this book by one of my favorite authors. It wasn't even the voices of the characters that I found so objectionable, but his normal reading voice that seemed to attempt to infuse every word with intrigue. Some listerners may like that, but I can't listen to those few readers who do this. It's like overacting, and ruins the story for me.
    In Defense of Ron Keith
After some previous comments regarding the narrative abilities of Ron Keith, I feel the need to stick up for the man a bit. It is true that his accent is pretty much a one noter, even Canadians and Americans sound like they're from Yorkshire. And most of his women, not all, tend to sound a little Pythonesque. I find that amusing more than annoying though. He does do justice to the story, he doesn't rush, he sounds as though he is really enjoying himself, I feel that the main characters gain personality through Mr. Keith. I have a distinct image and flavor now of Alan Banks and Annie Cabbot. So while he does not dramatize the reading, he lends it a lot of character. Aftermath is as good as any Peter Robinson book, if you like P.D. James and Elizabeth George, you will appreciate Peter Robinson.

    Thrill To The Last Minute
This is my second download from audible, first being Paranoia by Joseph Finder. The reader reviews helped me pick another winner. Great story with a strong suspenseful ending! The author did a very nice job at slowing disclosing the riddle without exposing the villain until the end. Didn't want to stop listening and once again Scott Brick did a great narration.
I actually picked this audio book based partially on the narrator. Scott did a superb reading with Paranoia by Joseph Finder and did a nice job with Vertical Coffin. If you are remotely interested in SWAT or police investigations you will thoroughly enjoy this book.
    Great detective story
In the same style as Michael Connerlly, this book shows a detective thinking through and solving a case, along with the emotions and thinking typical of many cops. He also includes information on crime solving designed to educate the reader...a plus.
    Interesting Listen
He kept me guessing right up to the last hour. Definitely worth the listen. He does a good job building the characters up and getting you to vest an interest. Good read.
    What a disappointing plot!
Based on reviews, I decided to give Cannell a try. The writing is good, and the plot pulls you in. The primary characters are interesting. The narration is excellent. However, there comes a point where the reason for the villain's problems with gender identity is revealed, after which the story just goes downhill. The plot turns ludicrous and asks the reader to believe ever more incredible developments. Bizarre characters appear out of nowhere, topped off by an anti-hero, a former Vietnam army medic. Toward the end, I felt as if the book had turned into a comic strip, a kind of parody of the genre.
    Better Then Expected!
I loved this book! Filled with twists and turns it kept me on my toes trying to pick up the clues before Scully did.....I have become a huge fan of Scott Brick and actually look for books he has narrated.....he is the best! I hope Stephen Cannell is busy on another "Scully" novel....If Scott Brick narrates I'm buying!!

"Give her a good murder and a shameful social evil, and Anne Perry can write a Victorian mystery that would make Dickens' eyes pop." (The New York Times Book Review)
    Members Reviews:
    DEFINITELY worth listening to
This is another stunning Anne Perry -- where there is much discussion of social classes and the larger world of England during the Vicotrian era. The amazing thing about Perry is that these details are in her books not just to set a context for the story line, but to advance the plot. Not a word is wasted -- not even when discussing clothing at a ball. Everything is important to the mystery, and you just might learn a bit about people while you're listening.
Narration is excellent. I gave it only 4 starts out of 5 because I think the ending is a bit weaker than some of her others. But it's still amazing to me how she does it.
    Action!
The mysteries and pacing are usually a little sedate in the Pitt novels, but this one really takes a turn for the thrilling in a number of scenes. Thomas and Charlotte (and Charlotte's sister) all venture into the scary back alleys of a rough-and-tumble London slum called The Devil's Acre. The characters are a little more colorful than usual, since the plot takes us outside the neat and tidy upper class society of Victorian London. As usual, Perry addresses a tangential issue within the novel, and this time it is the question of prostitution and exploitation of women in the lower classes, as well as the intersection of the lower and upper classes.
    Death In The Devil's Acre
I love Anne Perry books. This one I especially liked. She has such a great way of telling the story. Even though it's about murder, it's a classy murder mystery without today's bad language and steamy sex. Anne Perry is a breath of fresh air as far as I'm concerned.
    A new Anne Perry fan!
Excellent book. My first Anne Perry book, but not my last. Great story teller.
Not the best of the series
    Any additional comments?
I love Anne Perry's early Monk and Pitt series books. However, this one wasn't quite as good as expected. The mystery started out interesting, but seemed to drag on to a very contrived ending that almost seemed as if Ms. Perry got bored with it and just ended it with a less than believable ending just to get it over with.

Loved this book. I knew I would. I can't get enough of the complexity that is Alex Cross!!
    Who-dun-it?

    Bring back Mr. Guidall, please!
As I wrote in my other review, this is my favorite cozy mystery series. I am in the process of trying to obtain all of the books for my personal library, and I've been successful at my local library for the most part. However, they did not have this title, and when I saw that Audible had it, I bought it without noticing that George Guidall is NOT the narrator. My fault. I should have paid more attention. This narrator reads too fast, continuing over sections that should have a pause, IMO. He uses the same nasal voice for almost all of the characters - Polly sounds no different than Quill or Arch Riker. Very disappointing. Please, Audible, get the rest of the series with Mr. Guidall as narrator!!
    Not the complete book!!!
don't waste your money on this version of this book!! the person reading this book sounds like he has spot stuck in his mouth and there are big chunks of book missing.
    fast moving story
although George didn't read this i took a chance. I did enjoy this narrator alot.
great story. reader didnt have a range of accents
the reader needed different voices and accents for different characters to bring them to life.
Sounds like a more nasal Jimmy Stewart.
Would you try another book from Lilian Jackson Braun and/or Mason Adams?
Not Mason Adams, sorry buddy Guidall is amazing !
What did you like best about this story?
Love all the cat who books!
How could the performance have been better?
    Sorry, love the other reader.

    Hated it
REALLY mundane, predictable and boring. Even the sex I found boring. Sorry, the author is probably a nice person so I hate to be mean but.......... made it thru about 4 hours.
    The Dirty Little Secrets Club
Really poor dialogue. The story has a pretty good premise, but I couldn't get over the exchanges b/w characters. The narrator does a nice job.
    Interesting Plot Line
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. The story line is unique and unusual. It is fast paced and interesting. I did not know what was going to happen and had a lot of suspenseful moments listening. I remember a couple of times making noises out loud when it would get exciting, which I find to be a real mark of success for both the narrator and the author.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dirty Secrets Club?
The plot - you will not be able to figure it out until the very end. Even then, you will still wonder a bit and think it through.
Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksens other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes. I love Susan Ericksen's narrations. This was good and I did not think about the other stories she narrated at all - meaning she made this story its own and I did not compare these characters to others she has created with her voice and inflection.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Confused a lot and then the answers came at the end. It made me think and wonder.
This narrator is doing opera -
What disappointed you about The Dirty Secrets Club?
I cannot finish this book. Meg Gardiner stories are ususally pretty good and this one might be - but the narrator PRONOUNCES each sentence. Sounds like she thinks I bought the book to hear her perfect diction. I remembered after the first few minutes that I just hate the way this person reads.
Would you be willing to try another book from Meg Gardiner? Why or why not?
    yes
Would you be willing to try another one of Susan Ericksens performances?
NO!! I didn't mean to ever listen to her murdering a good book again.

    More to come!
    Members Reviews:
David Van Dyke has another hit with another Cal Corwin mystery. He keeps making me want to read his writing :)
Cal Corwin is the type of PI I would want to be- tough, smart and no-nonsense. She knows what it takes to get the job done and she does it better than all the rest. She also despises incompetence in those around her and she inspires competence in those with whom she works. She is a loyal friend to have and an even more dangerous enemy to make. Tough as she is, she is still all woman. The characters in the book are great, the story is strong, the writing excellent. You can't go wrong with something by this author in any of his chosen genres. I do, however, feel the need to read the whole thing in one sitting rather than have to leave it for a bit while I sleep, or I will have vivid dreams of being Cal and solving the case in a vastly inept way that will in no way reflect the manner in which the case is actually solved! Good thing I can always read it in one sitting! I love this character and this author.
    Good book to read
I loved all the characters in this book! The only thing I don't like is that there's no happy ending between the heroine and her love interest Thomas. I guess to author of the book left the ending this way so that in his future book will continue the never ending story.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves suspense thriller book!
Why I give 5 stars for this book because I enjoyed reading Cal Corwin Mysteries!
    Fan of Cal Corwin
I've been a fan of this series ever since I discovered it a few years ago on a BookBub deal. I had a hard time connecting back into the series with this book at first because the author changed the point of view. All the other books were written in the first person, told directly by Cal. The story was told from the third person point of view in this book. I missed being in Cal's head. After the halfway point I stopped being annoyed (sorry, David, but yes!) by the POV and was able to really get into the story. I couldn't put it down. This author can write. I love the pacing, the characters, and the author's sense of humor. Please write more, and SOON!
    What price justice?
Another well -written, exciting case for Cal Corwin, PI. I feel like I know the people that surround Cal -for better or worse- & experience the fears,, excitement, sadness & sense of accomplishment when the answers come. She's a much tougher character than I could ever be but considering what life has given her she does her job as she pursues justice.
Another good book in this series
Another good book in the Cal Corwin series. I continue to enjoy the characters, the suspense, and the excellent writing.

    Publisher's Summary:
For nearly 25 years, Rabbi Small has maintained an uneasy relationship with his congregation. He sees his role as that of a teacher, while they often look to him as more of a spiritual leader. Now, just as his congregation is set to reward him for his long service, the rabbi has decided to explore new options with his life. To make things more complicated, the recent murder of a college professor has the Barnards Crossing police baffled. Can the rabbis quiet introspection offer insights the police may have overlooked? Personally approved by the authors estate, narrator George Guidall voices the delightful characters and situations in this final audiobook of an always-intriguing series. The rest of the audiobooks in the series, from Friday the Rabbi Slept Late to One Fine Day the Rabbi Bought a Cross, are also available from Recorded Books.

One Future Day the RABBI Got on Kindle...
Well, not yet I guess. Com'on Amazon--these are all amazing stories. Rabbi Small has taught me so much about the Jewish religion (and I'm not Jewish and know no one who is). These books are the only thing that has taught me about the very interesting aspects of Judism. And, on the way, they've been downright entertaining mystery stories to book. I highly recommed the entire RABBI series to everyone. They are becoming somewhat forgotten "gems" of an earlier generation. They deserve to be brought back for a new generation. LET'S GET DIGITAL!!!!!
    Rabbi Small RESIGNED
I read about the Rabbi Small books about a month (2/14) ago and I started reading them and I am finishing up the last two (there are 13 of them) I will be sad when they are done. They mix mystery and good story telling with Rabbi Small explaining his roll as a rabbi.
    Four Stars
Entertaining and instructive, if you are not Jewish.
