Awesome!

Superb! Such a great book just like all of David Gemmell's, books. I highly recommend the read.

Superb book, technical issue though

Sean Barrett as usual delivers a superb rendition of the always excellent Gemmell. So why three stars? Needed a proper listen through by the publishers. A couple of chapters loop back to the start half way through, which is a little frustrating, and a bit of a poor show. If this happened in the printed book it would have been picked up. Not sure why its been left like this for audio?

Great listen spoilt by poor editing

It's a real shame that reputation of some sections spoils the flow of a good yarn. Not the fault of the author or narrator but the production. Hope the next one is better.

Poor editing

As much as I enjoyed this book as I have the series so far the audio editing lets it down. I lost count of how many paragraphs or chapters were duplicated. It kinda ruined the whole experience.

Not to Shabby

These two stories were not to bad, almost reminds one of Sword Art Online. It's a world I definitely wouldn't mind visiting, having played a number of MMO's I can relate to it. I will be awaiting the next in the series to come out on audio.

Like listening to your kid play Minecraft

I went into these two books with great hope for a fun advanture. Book 1 was decent initially but the premise and the story is so weak that it simply doesn't hold up. Although the spark of creativity is there is some scenes, the author is unable to maintain it.

It can be fun to watch others play video games. Book 2 never rises to even that level of interest. I simply couldn't muster any concern about whether she makes it to level 8 or not.

Save your credit.

Better than most Litrpg

Sure this book had a few annoyances to some but whatever. It was really good.

Pros:

The book is solid as a lit rpg at its core. It takes into account real rpg tactics how games work and how that could incorporate into virtual reality. There is definite world building structure to the book / game and not to much happens arbitrarily. Things follow a general structure and set of realism that some litrpgs lack.

The main character is likable and all characters have a deep sense of personality. Not to many feel like a plastic blank slate of character. They all have their quarks.

Thank heaven there is something in this book that many litrpgs mess up royally. The main character changes out her weapons and armor when leveling. She doesnt have to do so as often because shes a heaving magic user, but not all magic.

Unable to finish terrible Narrator

I am an avid Litrpg fan, but the narration is so bad that i can't finish the book. Adrian Niro was disinterested and you almost get the feeling he's making fun of you for listening to this story. If they want this series to be a success on audible they need to bring in another narrator and start over.

A new spin on vampires

Annika is enjoying a ski trip with her family when out of nowhere, her parents and brother are attacked and murdered and she is taken as a blood slave for the vampires. Jason has spent the last year attempting to come to terms with being a vampire, finally feeling like he has his bloodlust under control. When Jason sneaks out of the castle to test his control, he is drawn to Annika and her purity. The two feel a connection to each other, but they can never be together- her a blood slave with no future, him vampire royalty with his future planned out.

I really enjoyed the world that the author created, with Vampires, Werewolves, Witches and the Nephilim who hunt the evil supernatural races. This was my first book by Michelle so I am not sure if the world has already been established by her previous series or if it was just created for this journey. The interaction between vampires and all the other species was interesting and I will admit the idea of how the royalty is picked intruiged me. The promise of a vampire bachelor competition was a selling point for me, not going to lie.

The story did not have a ton of character development (or at least not as much as I was expecting) but it did have non-stop action and dangers- be it running from Vampires, dodging werewolves, or an impossible task that almost guaranties death. I did have a hard time with the romantic angle from Jason and Annika, I had no real idea why they liked each other so instantly (not a fan on insta-love, and I feel like that played a big part here). The action and adventure was great, but the relationships I was pretty iffy on.

The audio version was really well done, with the narrator creating strong distinct voices for both Annika and Jason. The third voice in the story was the (evil) witch Camilla and I didn't like her at all, but that may have been the intention of the narrator since she was a terrible selfish character.

The story is great, but the narration could be better.

I really enjoyed this story and was looking forward to hearing it narrated. I was disappointed though. The narrator ends a lot her sentences like she is asking a question, meaning her voice goes a little higher at the end. You do this when you ask a question, not for every single sentence.

Excellent story

This second audiobook in the series is even better than the first, giving more detail and history of the world while still moving the story forward and creating a tale that keeps you totally enthralled. Hannah continues to develop her skills and meets some interesting people along the way. They begin to recruit for the upcoming confrontation with the Duke and we see more of what the Duke has planned, as well as the horror of his factory. Sal is still growing and I am sure that he will play a bigger role in the future as he has the potential to be such a great character. There are scenes that have your heart racing and others that make you laugh out loud and the narrator does a brilliant job of capturing all the nuances with her voice and giving life to the excellent characters the authors have created. I cant wait to see what happens in the next book.

Was skeptical

When I started with book one wasnt sure if Id like it but by the end I was hooked book 2 didnt disappoint you guys did a great job. Ok now for book three

another awesome jewel on this saga

I received this book from the author/editor/narrator of my free will for an honest review.

and if you haven't picked up this series yet... ehat are you waiting for. I'm in love with it, this second book is so fluid with the first one that I was like yes we are progressing more into the plot and wao that plot is on fire I can't wait to know more about what is happening, I can sense the battle coming to our heroes doorstep and want to know in what it will end.

the characters continues to amaze me it's like having a friend that is telling you their story.

other thing that made my day it's the easy way you can be in sync with the narrator it's awesome, definitely a pick up for your library.

Reawakening: The Rise of Magic, Book 2 my second read/listen from author C.M. Raymond picks up where Book 1 left off. I love this incredible amazing story, the personality of the characters and the voice inflections of the narrator. Well developed characters, a storyline that grew on you as you continued until you couldnt wait to read the finish. I'll be reading more by this author when I buy more of his books. Im sure that author C.M. Raymond has more good writing waiting in the wings!

The GOAT

Gemmell is the reason I started reading the genre. This book is at its core what fantasy is supposed to be. If your looking for an incredible story look no further.

Simply Fantastic

David Gemmell is (was) a master story teller. The mystical elements are wonderfully balanced as a backdrop for the deeper human story. Lovers of Joe Ambercrombie will enjoy Gemmells work completely. His style is the perfect balance of deeply entertaining lore and approachable stand alone adventure tales.

In terms of narration- there are few voice actors I love more than Sean Barrett. The texture of his voice is wonderful, and his performance feels effortless and conversational; as if your listening to an old friend.

The post script notes to the reader that Gemmell included were such a lovely personal touch. All together, his body of work shouldnt be missed for fantasy fans. Im shocked it took me so long to find him, but Im so happy I did.

Exceptional!

Such a great book. I can listen to them over and over again. Especially the Waylander series. A+++

Best ever listen

Legend is brilliant, The Chronicles of Druss surpasses it in my opinion, this has to be the best book I've ever listened to. I've read all of David Gemmell's books and proudly own a considerable amount of first editions signed by the great author but nothing compares to the exhilarating life Sean Barrett brings in his reading of them. I am blown away by the listening experience. I will be buying them all. Highly recommended, I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed.

I have read all of gemmell books years ago ,these audible books makes the stories come to life again . Nice read,,,,,

This is not as good as other David Gemmell's other books like Legend and King Beyond the Gate and Waylander in my opinion.

The Ghosts-yet-to-be ride again

Classic , Gemmell. The highest praise you can give in this genre. Performance is good and allows the story to unfold in centre stage right to the end .... some author's write well but struggle to give a satisfying ending; David Gemmell always delivers at the denouement and this is another example. A great joy to finally have these magical books available on Audible.

I love this book and is in my top 5.

I can't get enough of his work. I have read this and all of his books over and over again, and getting to listen to them at work or when doing diy or just when chilling is such a pleasure.

it is well read and I feel a little sad that I finished it in less than a day but I just couldn't turn it off.

Well I'm off to start another of his book now.

king beyond the gate

Gripping adventure the story is well told and puts you right in it. Well done.

Excellent book

Gemmell is a master of tragic, flawed heroes who are part hero, part villain (at some point in their lives). This book contains so many small things that a person would recognize in real life that prove Gemmell had a grasp of how the personal struggles of real people determine their decisions.

this is a must read for anyone who loves fantasy!

the story is captivating from the first sentence to the last! the characters are so incredibly well developed that I found myself utterly devastated when they died or were hurt. the narrator makes this story to such an extant that I listened from beginning to end in one day! I literally couldn't put it down. this series is well worth the credit and , having used my 2 credits on books 2 & 3 for the month, I am going to buy book 4 because I can't wait 2 weeks for my next credit! I don't know how I missed this incredible author but I'm sure to read all his books now that I've found him!

A true pleasure to listen to.

David Gemmell spins a tail of sword and sorcery like few others. His heroes are colorful and yet believable, the plot is well paced and the action vivid. As soon as I have finished writing this review I will be purchasing the next book in the series. 9/10

Another masterpiece by David Gemmell! Lots of action and well written characters. Great story!!! 3rd time reading this book.
