When his ideologies are tested, Kester must choose between upholding the tenets of the Church and completing his mission.
There is nothing Reis wants more than to be left alone to his research. But when the Empire comes knocking, Reis is left with no choice but to fight back. Knowing the imperials will not stop coming for him, Reis is left with one path. If his research is to continue, Marcus Serpentine must die.
Together, the two may have a chance to cripple the greatest military force the world has ever known...if their conflicting ideals don't make them kill each other first.

40/10 Great Fantasy Story
I bought this book somewhat on a whim, but was very pleasantly surprised. The world in Lesser Evil is big, and only explained up to the knowledge you need for the most of the adventure, leaving me curious about the mystery behind what has yet to be explained. Almost every character was enthralling, albeit straightforward. One of the main female characters was pretty dull, never seeming to amount to where her potential seemed to be, but it wasn't as though she were unimportant. The character Alvis has become one of my all time favorites, I genuinely think I could read an entire book from their perspective.
The perspective was handled beautifully in this book, it jumps characters multiple times a chapter usually. This gives you the perspective of the antagonists as well as the protagonists, making everyone seem human.
I really hope to see a sequel!
but I did not enjoy most of the writing here
I think I ended up with a free version of this book from a Facebook ad, so A++ for marketing.
I just couldn't get into this book. In fact, I read 2 other books while I struggled to finish Lesser Evil. The characters felt shallow and their interactions oddly forced. I had very little emotional connection with any of them. Characters felt superficially motivated to act throughout the book. It just wasn't my cup of tea.
I probably couldn't write myself out of wet paper bag, but I did not enjoy most of the writing here. I did not feel engaged, and it felt disjoint at times. I doubt I will pick up the other books in the series.
Solid fantasy fun
I recommend 'Lesser Evil' By P. F. Davids.
I did recieve a copy of this book in exchange for a review. I warned him at the time I can be brutal and refuse to white wash anything, but he asked me to go ahead anyway. So, let me say this up front: I enjoyed the book.
The GOOD:
The author paints a vivid and sometimes grim picture, often setting the scene in macabre tones. While violent and often bloody, he does not go to lenghts to exhagerate anything. The action is well considered and generally beleivable. The tactics are fun and inventive with enough turns to keep you interested. . . and no one is 'safe'. Let that sink in a bit.
Throughout, the charactors were true to themselves. They are adequately developed and there is enough back-story worked in to support them wihout slowing the book down.
