Dr. Gideon Box, world-famous surgeon, is extremely good at his job. Hes never lost a patientbut he has issues. Hes antisocial. Doesnt mix well with others. Breaks into peoples homes and assumes their identities. Occasionally kills other doctors patients. Hes had bad luck with women his entire life. Big surprise, right?
His psychiatrist tells him to join a dating service. Tells him to seek women from small towns. Says theyll possess basic core values, be less shallow and self-centered than the hookers and strippers hes been dating. She tells him to take a week off and visit these women. Tells him to be positive, keep an open mind. So Dr. Box joins a dating website, spends two weeks narrowing down the candidates, and eventually settles on three small-town Kentucky women who seem to possess the qualities his psychiatrist recommended, as well as the one quality Dr. Box seeks: excessive horniness.
He sets out to meet these women, starting with Faith Hemphill, who lives in Ralston, Kentucky. He flies to Nashville, rents a car, gets within two hours of Ralston...and meets a hot young waitress named Trudy Lake. Then all hell breaks loose.

Very funny ...in an insane sorta way..
This story was not really like the blurb but better than it. It was very good the narration I think helped it to be better than it would have been in print. Both narrators were excellent! However after 3/4 way through I would find my self laughing and then next minute wishing it would hurry up to the end as the stupid silly & crazy storyline was wearing thin...but i listened to this book all in 2 sittings over just a day and a half. The ending I think was not as funny as the author probably thought it was but this was such a long crazy ride it had to end some how.
All in all I enjoyed listening to the story very much but was also glad when it was over. (If that makes any sense)
I had enough of small town southern stereotypical humor by that point.
    Fabulous narrator augments terrific book
Hilarious story made even better by fabulous narration, especially by Kevin T. Collins!
    Loved the redneck accents!
    Don't miss this
    book was funnnnnnnyyy
If you could sum up Box in three words, what would they be?
    HE'S BAD LUCK
What did you like best about this story?
His lack of emotion and he is full of sarcasm just like my nest friend. :)
What does Kevin T. Collins and Amy Landon bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
the accents were brought across well
If you could rename Box, what would you call it?
His name is perfectly fine wouldn't change it for nothing
    Any additional comments?
I hope they get married LOL :) Mr and Mrs Box <3
    Great sense of humor
What I liked most about this story is the fact that ALL the characters have a great sense of humor.
A Roller Coaser Ride Through a Love Story
What did you love best about Box?
I enjoyed that the plot was unpredictable, you always had to listen to know what would happen next. There was non stop drama and hilarity from the start of the story until the very end. The entire plot lasted a weekend but had a lifetime's worth of mishaps. Just when you think "what else could possibly go wrong", there is another interesting turn of events.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character would have to be Trudy Lake because of her sense of adventure and her perception of what is "fun".
Which character as performed by Kevin T.

Fairly interesting but not one of my favorites
Easy read but not as good as some of author âs other work
    LOVE IT
Love all the Mariah Stewart's books. She keep the interest going through out the book so you can't put it down.
    ice cream love
New to this author but so far I've enjoyed this series. Great setting of a small town, friendly people, and delicious ice cream flavors created by main character. Easy to read and fall yourself into.
    Almost Home
Enjoyed reading this book. Was easy and interesting. Glad I found it and bought it when I did. Worth the buy.
    Almost Home
The third book, Almost Home, in the Chesapeake Diaries does not disappoint. I couldn't wait for this one to come out and bought it the day it was released. Ms. Stewart has a way of weaving an uplifting, fun and intriguing web. The characters had me routing for them from the beginning straight through to the end. I can't wait to read the next one, and I hope there will be many more from this series.

    Release date: 08-28-12
Publisher: HighBridge, a division of Recorded Books

    Publisher's Summary:
Benjamin Benjamin has lost virtually everything - his wife, his family, his home, and his livelihood. With few options, Ben enrolls in a night class called The Fundamentals of Caregiving, taught in the basement of a local church. There Ben is instructed in the art of inserting catheters and avoiding liability, about professionalism, and how to keep physical and emotional distance between client and provider. But when Ben is assigned to 19-year-old Trev, who is in the advanced stages of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, he discovers that the endless mnemonics and service plan checklists have done little to prepare him for the reality of caring for a fiercely stubborn, sexually frustrated adolescent. As they embark on a wild road trip across the American West to visit Trev's ailing father, a new camaraderie replaces the traditional boundary between patient and caregiver.
Bursting with energy, this big-hearted, soulful, and inspired novel ponders life's terrible surprises and the heart's uncanny capacity to mend and become whole again.
    Critic Reviews:
"A lively narrative with a poignant core and quirky, lonely characters." (Kirkus Reviews)

    The Title Scared Me But......
I selected this book because I loved Jonathon Evison's book, All About Lulu. This book was even better. I was a little afraid because the title made me wonder if the book might be too sad with too many gruesome details about caregiving; yet, to the contrary, this book took the reader through a man's grief of losing his family as he adventured through his days as a caregiver. Ben, the father and caregiver, showed himself to be a father to all he came across as he helped his patient, Trev, come into his manhood and burst through the barriers of his disease. What a journey. Just loved it. This is the kind of fiction that keeps you coming back for more. I learned more about love, life and death while listening to exceptional reading voices and got to know some beautiful and interesting people. More please.
    Refreshingly different
Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving was a definite shift from my usual listen. I thought the narrator, Jeff Woodman, did a great job of presenting the tone of the novel. This is the first listen in a long time that I couldn't put down. Generally, I only allow myself to listen in my vehicle. But I broke that rule and listened at home as well. I'm very glad that I listened. I'm looking forward to the author's next work.
    Jumbled narrative thread
I have read or listened to 4 of Jonathan Evison's books. All four had many passages that were pure genius. Evison has a knack for conveying communication between characters that is stellar. The stories also have good underlying plots. But all four of these books have a similar fault that tears what could have been a good story apart. They weave in and out of time. They have a broken time line.
Revised Fundamentals is a good story. It has great characters. Its well written. Everything I ask for in a novel. But... Its confusing and falls apart.
    Fantastic Narrator
This book is full of pitiful people: a young man stricken with MD, assorted men who can't seem to do anything right, and the poor protagonist, a guy whose life is a chronicle of disaster and loserdom. Given this premise, Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving could have been a depressing and boring book, but it's not.

Welcome to Heaven, Inc., the grossly mismanaged corporation in the sky. For as long as anyone can remember, the founder and CEO (known in some circles as "God") has been phoning it in. Lately, he's been spending most of his time on the golf course. And when he does show up at work, it's not to resolve wars or end famines, but to Google himself and read what humans have been blogging about him.

His employees take the news in stride, except for Craig and Eliza, two underpaid angels in the lowly Department of Miracles. Unlike their boss, Craig and Eliza love their jobs - uncapping city fire hydrants on hot days, revealing lost keys in snow banks - and they refuse to accept that Earth is going under.
The angels manage to strike a deal with their boss. He'll call off his Armageddon, if they can solve their toughest miracle yet: getting the two most socially awkward humans on the planet to fall in love. With doomsday fast approaching, and the humans ignoring every chance for happiness thrown their way, Craig and Eliza must move heaven and earth to rescue them - and the rest of us, too.

    Fun book!
If you could sum up What in God's Name in three words, what would they be?
This book was just fun. Fun story, fun concept, just fun to listen to.
    Any additional comments?
Simon Rich is such a creative and fun writer. He has a fantastic sense of humor and can really tell a great story. This story was a joy to listen to and unlike any other book I've bought. I had tears of laughter throughout this story. Completely entertaining! Buy this book if you are looking for something unusual, light, and funny.
    fun book
I really enjoyed this book. Funny premise and situations. Heavy on the relationship comedy like Man Seeking. A quick listen and a lot of fun.
Very monotony book overall. Couldn't finishe it
What disappointed you about What in God's Name?
Most of the voice acting was decent but monotony, same with plot of the entire book. Maybe it was the book's "thing" but it wasn't fun or entertaining. The idea was interesting but book fall flat.
Would you ever listen to anything by Simon Rich again?
    Never say never, I suppose.
    Which scene was your favorite?
    Just the introduction\ opening .
What character would you cut from What in God's Name?
No idea, didn't go beyond few first chapters.

    A Delightful Surprise
I'm a voracious reader, not normally a big fan of audio books. My attention tends to wander easily. I can't sing along, so the radio beckons.
When I first saw the amazing reviews for this novel, I downloaded the sample text pages to my Kindle. Truth is, although I really wanted to like it, I just didn't feel compelled to keep reading. There's so many fantastic novels out there competing for my attention, more books than I could possibly read in my lifetime, so I gave up on this one...much too prematurely, as it turns out.
Two things happened: (1) my commute to work suddenly increased substantially with many of my favorite radio stations out of range for part of the trip, & (2) I learned that one of my most favoritest authors in the whole world performed the audio version of the novel and she posted a link to listen to the first chapter.
Wow! What a difference! Most of the subtle tones and nuances that I missed when reading the first pages suddenly came alive. What was going on with this slightly Stepford Sonny person? I had to know more...immediately! So I signed up for membership and used my first credit on Shine, Shine, Shine. This audio book took me prisoner and wouldn't release me until I learned the fate of the whole crazy, bizarre, dysfunctional-in-a-good-way family of misfits. Not only did I listen on my commute, I spent a few evenings with my earbuds plugged into the Kindle, totally ignoring all my favorite TV shows (much to the joy of my fiancé who got to watch the science shows that I normally hate and refuse to watch).
Speaking of which, this book is better than relationship therapy if you are a woman lucky enough to be coupled with a partner who resembles Maxon more than Mr. Darcy.
    Highly, highly, highly recommended.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 35 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-21-12
    Publisher: Orion Publishing Group Limited
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 106 votes

    Publisher's Summary:
Soon to be a major film starring Cate Blanchett
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To Elgie Branch, a Microsoft wunderkind, she's his hilarious, volatile, talented, troubled wife. To fellow mothers at the school gate, she's a menace. To design experts, she's a revolutionary architect. And to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend, and quite simply, mum. Then Bernadette disappears. And Bee must take a trip to the end of the earth to find her.
Where'd You Go, Bernadette is a compulsively readable, irresistibly written, deeply touching novel about misplaced genius and a mother and daughter's place in the world.
    Members Reviews:
If you like the genre, this is first rate
The primary narrator is a kid (mid teens). Significant parts of the story come in via emails from her mother, and from parents from her school. So I suppose it's partly a family drama and partly teen fiction, and it's an epistolatory novel. There's drama, back stabbing, infedelity and other bad behaviour, but also redemption for everyone - it has a happy ending. If you can stand all of that, this one is the best I've read in a long time. Very nicely done.
The narrator is good and the book is well served by her ability to differentiate accents, ages and tones of voice. I can't help mentioning that her attempt at a kiwi accent made me wince, but then I'm a kiwi and I know the difference. Probably if you come from anywhere else in the world you won't be bothered and it's a very small part of the book anyway. I'm impressed enough by her abilities to have already looked up other books she's narrated.
    Funny and enchanting
What did you love best about Where'd You Go, Bernadette?
I loved the description of living in "Microsoft world" some parts made me laugh out loud.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked that the story was written through the eyes of a fifteen year old girl
Which character as performed by Kathleen Wilhoite was your favorite?
    Just has to be Bee
    What a wonderful book!
Would you consider the audio edition of Where'd You Go, Bernadette to be better than the print version?
The audio version was much more fun than reading it -- the reader(s?) was modulation heaven -- fab
What other book might you compare Where'd You Go, Bernadette to and why?
I have enjoyed many books but few surface to the top of the list like this one -- Fredrick and Fredirika; Life Expectancy all had Pat Conroy -level images.
This is brilliantly written with meaningful imagry that congured up the scene in fulll technicolor
    Any additional comments?
If you are a mother who juggles the frustrations and rewards of life and home and career and creativity -- this is a great listen.
    Whacky and Crazy!
Whacky and crazy story.. at times a little disjointed, but all in all a fun listen. I can say that I would rather have downloaded something with a litt more substance.. but hey.. that's how it goes!
    Didn't grab me at all
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
although the narration performance was good, for me this book was a waste of 10 or so hours. The story line imo was very weak and I found it very difficult to concentrate on listening to it. In fact I found myself drifting way off where the story was so boring. Very disappointing.

    Meaningful!!
Would you consider the audio edition of Lipstick in Afghanistan to be better than the print version?
It's the kind of story that works well as an audible book; easy to follow.
What did you like best about this story?
It is based on the author's experiences in a war-torn country, and thus feels gritty and real. The story reveals the SAMENESS of people, especially women, everywhere.
What about Mozhan Marnos performance did you like?
She was just really good at differentiating between characters and I enjoyed her voice.
Who was the most memorable character of Lipstick in Afghanistan and why?
It's been a couple of months - the Afghan woman who was best friend to the American protagonist was my favorite. Full of fire and determination and love for life, even in circumstances that would emotionally cripple most people.
    Phenomenal!!
Would you consider the audio edition of Lipstick in Afghanistan to be better than the print version?
I don't know bc I've not read the print version.
What did you like best about this story?
The continuum of voice/perspective of the main character's "coming of age."
Have you listened to any of Mozhan Marnos other performances before? How does this one compare?
I don't know whether or not I have.
Who was the most memorable character of Lipstick in Afghanistan and why?
    Protagonist bc she experienced change.

    Title: Arcadia
    Author: Lauren Groff
    Narrator: Andrew Garman

Length: 11 hrs and 8 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-13-12
    Publisher: Recorded Books
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 265 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Lauren Groffs acclaimed debut novel The Monsters of Templeton was short-listed for the Orange Prize. Her second novel, Arcadia opens in the late 1960s with a group of young idealists forming a commune in western New York State. Into this group is born Bit, who grows into a quiet, distant man. Over the course of 50 years, Bit witnesses the utopia crumble and the world change in unimaginable ways.
    Critic Reviews:
Richly peopled and ambitious is one of the most moving and satisfying novels Ive read in a long time. (Richard Russo, Pulitzer Prize-winning author)
    Members Reviews:
    Luscious prose, intimate and realistic
With luscious prose Lauren Groff tells the story of Bit, a boy born in the late 1960s on a VW bus in a snowstorm in Wyoming, as his parents and their communal caravan drive across the U.S. to settle in upstate New York. The community they found soon after his birth, Arcadia, is Bits complete world for his first 15 years. Bits experiences of poverty, hunger, cold and isolation are presented with intimacy and unsparing realism. But so too are his experiences of love, acceptance, joy in nature and discovery.
Arcadia movingly presents the emotional and physical experiences of Bit and his friends, as well as those of the adults of the community, when the inevitable crisis occurs that leads to the disintegration of the group and the exodus of most of its members, including Bit and the other children. The story of Bits radically different adult life is the second half of the novel. Groff does an excellent job portraying him in his later years in a way that is wholly consistent, and utterly believable, given the child we have come to know so intimately in the earlier part of the book.
I found the reading by Andrew Garman a bit flat at first. However, his understated and undramatic way of reading allowed the beautiful writing to shine through on its own. I never tired of listening to this book, and found that his voice slipped quietly into the background, so that I might have been reading it on the written page rather than listening to it.
    Wonderful novel
I thought this was a terrific novel--a clear story line with layers of tales under the surface. It spans decades, from the '60s to the not too distant future, and left me contemplating my own future in a new light.
The novel is really beautifully written, the language rich enough to drown in. The characters, with their inevitable flaws, are developed sympathetically. Arcadia is the story of a boy who grows up away from the "real world," in a gigantic commune, where pot, poverty, and extravagant dreams and hopes are constants, and what happens when, inevitably, he must join the rest of the human race.
My criterion for narration is simple: a clear, modulated voice that doesn't overpower the music of the words themselves, as the author wrote them. I had no complaints with this novel.
I wish I had it to read over again--and of course I do, and I will!
    Wonderful book!
I thought this book was amazing. It was a beautiful evocation of a time and of politics that are gone. I thought the characters were well drawn and brought to life with the great narration of Andrew Garman. Lauren Groff's writing is so terrific to listen to.
