May/December romance

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I'm on the fence, simply because I had some issues with the characters and content this time around.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The May/December romance is a trope I adore. I had trouble with the "pet names" being spoken on a constant loop though.

What does Nick J. Russo bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

He brings the characters to life in a way that can't possibly be achieved with words on a page.

Could you see Sweet Young Thang being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Okay, let me preface by saying I love, love, loved the narration, Nick Russo can do no wrong. The constant pet names were annoying as crap and actually pulled me out of the story, more than once. And I can't be the only person that read/listened to this book with Michael Jackson singing "PYT" in my head in the background.

I have a love/hate relationship with this installment of the series, where as I've thoroughly enjoyed all the other stories. The insta-love for me didn't quite ring true, though once Eric convinced Collin they were right for each other and worth coming out for, it flowed well. I've already mentioned the pet name peeve. And it's not the pet names per say, it was the over use to the point of beating a dead dog that bordered insanity for me. I also really enjoyed the frat brothers and friends, I laughed so hard more than once that my ribs hurt, I think I even laughed so hard I was crying at one point.

So, I'll say as long as you can overlook the insta-love initiation and the pet name overload, it's a pretty amazing story.

This one bothered me a lot.

I liked the story, especially how sweet and understanding Clint was with Trevor, and look forward to continuing the series.

The narration thoughhad issues. From the audible intake of air for many sentences to the sometimes lilting way Collins would finish a sentence at times, making it seem like it was a questionwhile I kind of got used to both after a while, ultimately I didnt think this was even close to Collins best work.

If someone was interested in Paranormal stories with excellent audio by Collins Id steer them towards Charlie Cochets THIRDS series (under his Mark Westfield brand).

Short mpreg shifter story

This is a very short, very sweet mpreg shifter story and the first in the series. It is like one of the better Siren books and has enough of a story not to be PWP. Pretty predictable and not a lot happens, but it But I hope we see the couple in other books as it ends abruptly with what I consider a HFN. I also had to deduct a star for the narrator. Although I have enjoyed his narration in other books, there was a very noticeable intake of breath throughout this book that was VERY annoying and really distracted me from enjoying the story. Also, some of his dialogue came out as whiney instead of "soft spoken" which is what I think he intended. It annoyed me enough that if I continue this series, I'll probably read the ebooks.

I loooooved this book but I HATED the narrator. The story was really good, just what I had been looking for.

I enjoy a good shifter mm Romance or story. I think this one would have been better served if I had read it and not chosen the audio version. I could never really get into the story because of the Singsong delivery that the narrator used. most sentences ended with a question even if it wasn't a question and the last word or two of every sentence was almost sung.

No accents, no chemistry, not a great story

Im just so surprised by this story. Ariel Tachna has proven not only her writing chops but also her immense creativity and ease with angst and danger and drama and emotion in her gripping series Lang Downs and Partnership in Blood. Id even read her other Dreamspun Desire book so I definitely had an expectation that ran toward the creative and angsty.

This is the exact opposite.

Its like expecting a Bloody Mary and being served warm tap water instead.

The story, told from Navashens POV is more like a day in the life of memoir than an exciting or heartfelt romance. Navashen tells us about moving home, finding a new house, furnishing the house, picking out a restaurant, meeting new friends, talking to his family, etcetera, etcetera. Using way more detail than calls for we are walked through his relocation and new home set-up. None of which is terribly exciting or angst ridden.

His character reads fairly blah in that he had some issues with poverty growing up and some potential issues with his Indian family but those arent actually even a thing (much) anymore. They color his decisions but have not made him an interesting character.

Brent is even worse. There is nothing noteworthy about his character at all up until the very end when we learn he was married to a woman whose family didnt approve of Brent and that ultimately ended their marriage for them.

Brent and Navashen dont even begin to date until 80% into the story and then at 90% they break up! Only to reunite in the final pages.

I never felt a bit of chemistry between these two and the ease with which Brent walked away speaks loudly for how little the two are invested in one another. I have no idea what Brent sees in Navashen (not that theres anything wrong with him but we arent really shown why the two hit it off.) Also, Navashen seems like hes interested in Brent only because hes the better option to being alone.

Navashens brother and mother are the only interesting characters and they didnt have enough to them to carry the story.

Listening to this was probably worse than reading it only because in addition to being not very interesting, John Solo made Brent sound like a smarmy used car salesman and he kinda made my skin crawl.

Regret.

I regret spending the money on this audio version of this book...the story itself is good but the narration was so awful.. I literally wanted to scream listening to this women's breathy voice! I really wish the Editors and Authors would listen to the narration before putting these out...it truly ruins a good book when you have a bad Narrator. I recommend reading the book and passing on this Audible version.

I loved this book.

I loved this book. I had already read it. But really enjoyed this Audible. It is a great story w/ Austen and Dee. I admit the ending is what I hoped for. I don't want to give it away, but it's the ending I wanted. Thanks to Audible for adding Jae to their collection.

The voices sounding more realistic. They sounded so fake that it was hard to listen to. I really liked the story line but often cringed with the voices.

Yes, because I have read this book 3 times and it is a fun romance to escape into. I love reading this author's books.

What did you like best about this story?

The romance that unfolds and how they get to it, which is what this book is about. The time it takes to take charge of oneself and to have the courage to say no, which was the ending. Plus the corporate nonsense and rumors made it comical.

Which character as performed by Shawn Marie Bryan was your favorite?

Probably Austin and Tim. I will say I did not like the authors voice for Dee, but that is just my feelings. The narrator knows how to put emotion into place. This is not my first time listening to this narrator.

Who was the most memorable character of Under a Falling Star and why?

Dee and Austin, but Dee father and Uncle, have short but very decisive roles you can't forget. They are the basis for how Dee is portrayed prior to Austin's introduction into the book and the character and personality she falls back into at various points throughout the story.

Any additional comments?

I loved the book, and have read it at least 3 times in the past. I was looking forward to any audible from Jae. This was a great story to do as an audible book. The readers emotions, tempo, enthusiasm and vocal quality was great for this story. Love the various sound affects too, great job. My only criticism is I thought the narrators voice was too old sounding for Dees character. I know Dees role comes off as a matron type person given her storys personality.

Treat yourself and listen to this well done performance by AJ Ferraro. I am a first time listener of this narrator and will look for more of her work. I find Erin Dutton's stories consistently entertaining and I was happy to hear this story narrated so well.

Decent Book.

What can I say? I love Mary Calmes and Greg Tremblay. Add them together and I am one happy camper.

Though you could enjoy Chevalier without first reading/listening to Romanus, I would not recommend it.

Picking up a year after the end of Romanus, Mason "Mace" James is settled into his chasse (or tribe) of gargoyles, doing well in his day job as a fireman, and realizing the future he wants with his lover, Luc.

I loved how, once Mace accepted his feelings and hope for the future, he was unwavering in his love and support of Luc and their relationship. I especially appreciated the history and explanation of Mace's goji roots we get in this installment.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Greg Tremblay's narration!

Tremblay's character voices and accents are lovely, and he illustrates the emotions (passion, tenderness, exasperation, and even anger) in the story so well, managing to draw the listener in almost effortlessly, creating a whole world that I didn't want to leave.

Greg Tremblay gives another fantastic performance!

Recommended.

Amazing sequel

First, you must read Romanus before you read this. It wont really make sense as a standalone.

We met the two lovers Luc and Mason when Mason had stumbled upon Lucs chasse of gargoyles to find out that Mason was actually a Romanus, something revered by the gargoyles. Unfortunately, they dont know much about what that means and the main driving force in this story is to find out just what it means to be a Romanus so that the tension in the chasse will let up.

Theres an added element of mystery when a family comes from France claiming to be related to Mason. Some threats are made and Mason and Luc fly over the ocean to research being a Romanus with the keeper of the gargoyle history and to find out more about Masons family as well.

Meanwhile, at every turn, Luc is met with derision, scorn and contempt because he is of a lower class than the Romanus at least historically. Mason will have none of this and this helps Luc and Mason to iron out their own relationship issues.

I fell in love with Romanus years ago and was so psyched to see this sequel finally come about! It does not disappoint! In typical Mary form, Mason is absolutely perfect, Luc is tough as all get out and the bad guys are really bad and easily seen through. But theres some fascinating twists and turns this story takes that keep the storyline fresh and proves to me again that when Mary writes paranormal she really shines her brightest.

I loved this sequel and highly recommend it to fans of paranormal stories, fans of Mary Calmes and fans of Romanus and Gargoyles in general.

Pepe Le Pew Meets the Wolf-man

An Erie Halloween is an amusing re-imagination of the shifter genre of romance novel. The plot uses an illogical absurd coupling of wolf-shifter and a skunk-shifter that is reminiscent of the Pepe Le Pew cartoons of childhood. However, in this incarnation, Le Pew a sarcastic wise cracking character played off against a big powerful bad boy wolf shifter with a scholarly refined side to him.

It is a reductio-ad-absurdum of the genre. I smiled and chuckled my way through the entire book.

a fast, fun-filled Halloween story.

Do you have a couple hours to kill that you need a short story and want something light-hearted and fun-filled? I have the story for you! An Eerie Halloween is the tale of Templeton a Skunk shifter( yes you heard me right a skunk shifter) How he meets and falls for a wolf shifter, a mystery where he finds himself the prey and some hot man-sex.

I loved this story in book form, but Ron Welch really brought the characters to life. You know from the first sigh that he is not gonna just read but put great inflictions and life. I loved Mikel's accent too!

If you like paranormal romance with a touch of humor, Lycan's,skunk shifters, a little mystery and some hot man-sex. This is for you!

Short & Sweet: a cute story full of errors.

This is a fairly short story so world-building, characters & plot come together a little too abruptly. However, if you want a short, sweet little love story w/ a request for tolerance of differences, this will do nicely.

Its biggest issue is the narration. Ron Welch has a pleasing voice, performs well and his character voices are fine, BUT he constantly mispronounces words. (I'd give him a 4 if he had a reasonable spoken vocabulary)

This happens throughout the entire story, w/ a variety of words, which was Extremely distracting! Some of the time it sounded like the problem might have been an incorrect word from using auto-correct on the text.

A Great Story...

I so enjoy a story in which the author provides a plethora of backstory that endears the primary characters to the reader/listener and Harmon does a great job in this book. Noah and Drew are such great characters and of course I was routing for this pairing. The wit and sarcasm of each character is great and one cannot help but want a HEA. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing this story to life. Great second edition to this series...looking forward to the next installment.

Aside from the narration I enjoyed following along as both Drew and Noah grew exponentially from where the story started to where it ended.

Have you listened to any of Michael Stellmans other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have and it was just as good. As I said above, his vocal tones really fit for younger characters and storylines. He doesn't do a ton of different voices per say, but he manages to change tone just enough to make it easy for the listener to know when there's a change in POV.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

So Into You is perfect.

I really enjoyed the push and pull between the two MC's and how there was a role reversal in a way toward the end. Both men have pasts that make it hard for them to trust in love or commitment. They also both share parental issues, though for different reasons. Noah was adopted, though he's reconnected with his birth mom. He just can't understand why she is happy with twin girls and getting ready to get married, and yet, she couldn't keep him. And then Drew has the day late, dollar short dad that's in and out of his, his brother and mother's lives more than he's in and out of prison.

Note, this ends on a cliffhanger, and because it is apparently "an alternate retelling of how Nick and Bane meet and is not part of the main Cursed timeline" there is not a follow up to continue the story.

Not that I'm sure I would want to, personally.

There were a lot of my personal pet peeves in this (purple prose, and a lot of "older man", "bigger man", "younger man"), as well as very little character development.

I haven't read the Cursed series, so I didn't understand much of what was happening, and the author didn't seem to take any time to try to explain to new readers what was going on. (i.e.: Did Bane own Smoke? Why was he "cat-like"?) and the "romance" was far too insta-loveish without really benefiting from an explanation of why Nick or Bane fell for each other, other than one erotically sexual night together.

I got this under the Whispersync deal, and Michael Pauley was at least entertaining to listen to, but I wouldn't recommend the story.

Satisfying and Cute

As expected from X. Aratare, another wonderful, cute, and never shy story. I read the original Cursed and loved it very much and to hear this one was amazing.

Michael Pauley is an amazing narrator too! Oh, I enjoyed listening to him unfold the story. I love how his voice changes. I especially love it when he reads Bane's part, it was believable!

There are some parts where it got kind of awkward with the narrating, but I still enjoyed the story very much.

Thank you for existing X. Aratare and Michael Pauley!

So much love

I cannot find words enough to say how very much I love this story and these characters. I have read the retelling and this side story was like a druggie getting their fix until the other story gets finished. Sooooo looking forward to that but this is a good fix and not to be missed. Enjoy the story it's worth it and then some.

this was a good story although the narrator sounded like a news reporter at times I appreciated the effort, like when the story said a character laughed...he laughed, but this was a good short story and it made me want to get the actual book.
