BEWARE! but not in the way you think...

5 stars for the book itself, 1 star for the changing of the title to make it look like a new collection. This is a reprint of The Mammoth Book of Frankenstein edited by Stephen Jones. Only the title is new. Shame on everyone involved!

I've loved CDM's work for a few years now and I've read everything he's published. Housequake is a welcome edition to the ever building, Angel Hill saga. This author just has a unique style that's all his own. More Angel Hill couldn't hurt, Mr. Moore. I've also listened to a lot of Curt Campbell's audio work. I really like this narrator. He's someone I can listen to for long periods. I like his voice distinction for the different characters. Some other reviews suggested that the narration on Housequake has an echo. I really couldn't hear any echo. Print or audio. I recommend either or both. If you haven't taken steps to do so already, I'd certainly find out more about C. Dennis Moore.

The sound quality wasn't very good

I enjoyed the story and the narration was okay, but the low quality of the recording was bothersome.

Yes. I really enjoy the Angel Hill series and have listened to the books more than once. This book is another great book in the series and I will definitely listen to it again.

I felt like this book was a bad knock off of Clive Barker's "The Thief of Always." I suppose someone will enjoy it. I'll admit I enjoyed "The Third Floor" by C. Dennis Moore.

How could the performance have been better?

The performance sound quality was bad. It sounded like the narrator was speaking into a loud echoing hallway. He also mispronounced words, which made me cringe inside.

Annoyance and disappointment. It wreaked of Barker's Holiday House setting, but not in a good way.

From the beginning this novel churns with a storm of suspense and psychotic behavior of the villain. The Calm Before the Storm is the perfect concoction of thrilling reading for fans of Elle Klass and aficionados of the suspense, thriller, horror genres.

Disturbing but Captivating .. Great Book!!

I most definitely would and already have. I have recommended the book to my friend because like me, she enjoys a really good thriller. I felt this book provided not only the thrill and the darkness, but also added a little something extra with the backstory of why Evan is the way he is made me believe that she would enjoy it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Calm Before the Storm: Evan's Sins?

There was no one memorable moment for me. From the beginning, the story is engaging and only gets better throughout the rest of the book. The storyline is captivating and never leaves the listener/ reader uninterested or bored.

Have you listened to any of Robert P. Jellisons other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I have not had the pleasure of listening Robert P Jellison perform before but will be looking for books he has narrated in my future purchases. He has great tone, cadence and voice inflection. I appreciate how his narration pace reflects what he is reading. For example, Robert increases his pace when a scene is meant to be disturbing or thrilling and can return to a slower pace as the storyline requires. Robert managed to bring this book to life for me and had me engaged from the first sentence he spoke.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen to this book all in one sitting. I could not stop listening to it. Lucky for me, I recently had surgery and had the time to do so. I am so happy that I listened to this book. The author Elle Klass and narrator Robert P Jellison are a great team for the writing and narration.

Engaging over time, especially for Luna!

No I don't believe I have and this offering was very good. Consistent and believable.

I received a copy of this audiobook from Audioblast in exchange for a fair and unbiased review. Fact is, I had this in my wish list anyway, so it sort of worked out.

That said, this is a modest little piece of original scifi, with some interesting personal touches.

Once again I would note that some of the non-Audible productions have glitches in terms of background noise, editing issues, and other bumps that make headphone listening sometimes jarring. That said, on balance i recommend this.

Who does not like a space story...

Luna written and published by Rick Chesler is a rather unique science fiction space suspense thriller. The audiobooks narration was professionally performed by Steve Rausch. If you enjoy a story that blends many of the elements of the movies like Tremors, The Martian (having more than one person stranded), and Gravity, you will get a good understanding of what you are in for when reading or listening to this book. There are many exclusive story components, so do not think the book contains nothing new; it does. Although the overall story lacked some technical and plot depth along with a need for more character development, it was not a bad story as a whole. If you are one who likes suspense, space, and monsters, you may find yourself liking this book. I gave the book an average rating because I could not find anything that was astonishing or earth-shattering based on other books I have reviewed previously.

I picked up this book as it had a somewhat unique premise, also who does not like good space and mystery story? I was not disappointed when I listened to the book, but I will say there were a few times where I did not feel engaged by it. Many of the main characters were more cardboardish or flat than I would have liked. Even though it is a monster story at its core, I still would have liked to have had deeper character development and interaction. Im also aware this is a piece of fiction, but I found some of the accident chain of events to be somewhat over the top and required some suspending of belief.

With the story taking place a few years in our future, space travel becoming more commercialized and regulated by the ever-liked (sarcasm) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Loved the sound effects so much!

Would you consider the audio edition of Rhinehoth to be better than the print version?

I loved this audio book so much more than reading the book myself because there were sound effects that were fitting to the mood, and ambiance of the scene. Creepy doors opening, and what not made this similar to old time radio programs. I wish there were more audio books that had this type of bonus with sound effects!

Have you listened to any of John Penningtons other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not but I would definitely conciser listening to other books he has narrated.

no defiantly not. It's over 10 hours long, I prefer to listen to my audio books while I am driving to and from work as well as making dinner and eating (alone). Was quite entertaining all week as I listened to it.

I rather enjoyed this audio book and the audio effects that were within it. I prefer to listen to audio books instead of music on the radio these days. Not sure if I'm just getting old, or bored with radio (I'm in my 30's). I might have to search the author and narrator for more books to listen to on my drive to and from work, I rather enjoyed this book as well as the performance. Made my commute more enjoyable this week.

anyone who loves vampires and werewolves

Rhinehoth is a prison converted from a castle to house war criminals; now it houses everyone from petty criminals to murderers. Located in Germanys Black Forest there is no escape from this prison for anyone.

Same voice

Over all great book but got tired of the same voice for each story. Maybe if she was more exiting it would be that bad

Some stories great; narration bad

I enjoyed a few of the stories, but overall it was hard to listen to. I wish they cast a male and female to read the stories, as I found my mind wandering when the story was obviously from a male perspective. It just made the stories not scary.

SHE TRIED TO PULL THE SNAKES OF DRIED BLOOD FROM

HER NOSE

I am a big fan of B Horror movies, especially those with big breasted females. I don't think Adam Cesare is ready for prime time yet. There were hints of bloody goodness, but it just did not all come together well. He has got the gore down and the titillation, but not the intensity or drama. SHE WAS GOING TO BE TORTURED AND MUTILATED BY AN IDIOT. The narrator is only so-so, but for a low budget novella, probably the best a new author can get. THERE'S NO GOING BACK FROM DEAD.

I love horror books in a huge way but I don't often like silly horror stories. However, this one was a real winner. From top to bottom it was ridiculous, hilarious, spooky and plain pure fun. The story is good and the performance is pitch perfect. Would recommend!

Great cannibal horror!

The story is very well written and entertaining. Narration is ambitious and well done. With so many different characters from all over the globe Mr. Hempel had his work cut out for him. using the characterization by Cesare he was able to create a very enjoyable audiobook.

B movie filming turned into horror

I have received a copy of this book from the narrator in exchange for an honest review.

This is the story of a film crew traveling to a tropical island to make an Italian horror movie. The book is just under three hours and this did not allow for great character development. There are two women in the crew and I had issues at some points discerning who the narrator was referring too. I think it was an interesting group of people, and I would have enjoyed to have more of a backstory.

Things at the island rapidly start to go south. I enjoyed the gore, but again, I felt I was missing something of the story. The dare situations felt real though, and it was like I could watch the characters running through the jungle.

All was related to the curse that was introduced at the beginning of the book, but I would have appreciated more background information or some development on that since it was not explained and left at the reader's interpretation.

Joe Hempel did, as usual, a fantastic narration and character interpretation. This is not my usual book style, but I decided to listen to it because of Hempel.

In my mind I saw this ad part of the Bates Motel TV series

I like the storyline development in this audiobook. Some of the characters were a bit contrived. I think the narrator did a relatively good job although I think it could've been better. Overall the storyline was interesting. This is not what I would consider an excellent book I would consider this a good read. In spite of that I would still recommend it if you'd like the Norman Bates genre.

A Psycho among Monsters

Awesome whodunit mystery mixed in with an asylum and the notorious killer Norman Bates, and you get an excellent connection to the other books.

Ever wonder what happened to Norman Bates?

I absolutely loved Psycho, I have both read the book and, of course , seen the movie. Although this is titled " Robert Bloch' s Psycho : Sanitarium , of course he didn't write. Now that would be creepy ! This book is so true to Mr Bloch's Norman, you can believe he did pen it. It is a book made for Audible though. The voices were spot on, and that music. Great lines too! Norman to me is just a sweet boy with an over protective mother.

She may even try to follow him in his quest for sanity. Wonderful characters. I've never had the pleasure to listen to Chet Williamson narrate previously, but will be on the lookout. If you love the real, original Anthony Perkins , or if you like to have chills for a few days I highly recommend this book!

In the ensuing encounter, Brandt is gifted - or cursed - with new abilities. He feels pain building up around him and inside him. Not his own pain but the pain of others, the pain of those who have passed away, the pain of those who died with no one to hear their stories. He becomes a conduit for the pain of the world.

What follows are a series of revelations, one for each member of the band and one for a young girl named Liz, drawing them together and ultimately reuniting them with Brandt. Together, Brandt, Sinthia, Shaver, Dexter, and Liz take off to the mountain town of Friendly, California, for a date with pain, destiny, and a silver-haired reverend who would like to see them dead. In the final showdown, they must meet the challenge of the music, the pain, and their mingled histories and stand, or fall, with the pain of the world in the balance.

The Sin Eater!

This story is unlike any I've listened too. It had a unique plot and the characters were well developed.

After some strange events bring the band members back together, Liz tells them about her past and the disturbing story of the Sin Eater. During her story, she tells them what she witnessed one Sunday at church and who the Sin Eater is. After Liz's story they all decide to go back to her hometown to find out what has change and to set events right.

Wild, weird and wonderful ....

This is a very strange book. It's a "Crossroads" meets "Ghost Whisperer" tale. The protagonist of the story is a guitarist that makes a deal with the devil ... or does he?

Brandt is the leader of the band, he meets up with Wally and is endowed with the ability to "play the pain" of those lost souls around him. Naturally, he has a band and each member of the band also has a unique, supernatural ability. The bassist can actually see the angels (or are they demons, or just lost souls?), the drummer the and the rhythm guitarist also have special abilities. Chris Patton does an outstanding job with the narration on this title.
