A Wake Up Call
Smith lets us know in certain terms that finishing the Great Commission will take action and focus. We cannot allow ourselves to let go of the task Christ gave us to reach every tribe, tongue, and nation for him. The book offers encouraging examples of what can happen without ignoring the difficulties that will come with the task. Smith is action-oriented almost to a fault. He recognizes that we can complete the assignment Christ gave us if we don't lose hope, faith, and love. The only drawback is the book seems to downplay the role of prayer--it sometimes comes across as something you do briefly on your way to do whatever it takes to plant churches. Yet all in all, this is a wake up call to Americans that we will need to be active if we want to obey the Great Commission.
Fiction?... I hope so!
Great follow-up to the Hastening book. Haven't finished it yet, but looks like it's going to be a real page-turner. It's one of those books (similar to Joel Rosenberg's works) where as you put down the book and pick up today's newspaper, you wonder where one leaves off and the other begins! Read both books in order for maximum impact on your life. What Christianity Ought to look like
This continuation of the No Place Left saga carries the protagonists through a potential future that realistically reflects what could happen in the last generation before Christ's coming. As always, I advise readers not to nitpick or get hung up on details - the big picture message of this book is what ought to be defining Christianity right now. Sacrifice, persistence, endurance, one Lord who is worth everything, one cause - these are the themes that come out through the pages of this book. Interestingly, these same themes are found in the New Testament. Coincidence? I think not.
were amazing reads.
