    Good.. not great
Not in the same class as his first novels. Redwall was really very good. This novel did not add much to the series. A case of an author putting out books on a schedule rather than as a work of art.
    The best book ever
Amassing this book is great i would really recommend this book it very its great
Like reading it for the first time again!
This was the first redwall book I read about 10 years ago. Since then I read all of the books in the redwall series and this one remains one of my favorites! Here's some of what there is to see in this book (without giving spoilers)
    1. A vicious wildcat ruler wages war with a group of robin-hood-like outlaws on a secluded island, with a dangerous son plotting against him all the while
    2. A giant water monster
    3. A warrior so mad they think they're a shrew, sea otter, hare, and badger, among other things
    4. A strong female protagonist who embarks on a journey worthy of standing out as one of the best in this enitre series
    5. A really good set of songs and riddles (custom in redwall books)
A stable book in a great series.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. I would recommend this book due to the fact that while not the best Redwall book, it show cases the best traits of the series. The story moves along well, the characters are engaging and the villains are a well written bunch.
What was one of the most memorable moments of High Rhulain?
The moments are not nearly as important as the choices of Atunra and Riggu Felis. Well chosen and delightful to listen too.
What does Brian Jacques and Full Cast bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Aside from the well played songs of the book, it gives the characters a new life due to the characters, making the world seem more realistic.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not particularly, though listening to the villains bickering was always fun.
    Any additional comments?
The biggest flaw of the book comes about as the sense of danger is minor. It is a very middle of the road book, and one of the few with an otter main character (as well as the only female otter main character). So it is not the best, but far from the worst.
    Exhausting.
Would you try another book from Brian Jacques and/or Brian Jacques and Full Cast ?
    No.
How could the performance have been better?
This review is of the audiobook only.

    Title: Love That Dog
    Author: Sharon Creech
    Narrator: Scott Wolf
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 35 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-02-05
    Publisher: HarperAudio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 71 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
With a fresh and deceptively simple style, acclaimed author Sharon Creech tells a story with enormous heart. Written as a series of free-verse poems from Jack's point of view, Love That Dog shows how one boy finds his own voice with the help of a teacher, a writer, a pencil, some yellow paper, and of course...a dog.
    Critic Reviews:
"Readers will love that dog, and this book." (Publishers Weekly)
"Creech has created a poignant, funny picture of a child's encounter with the power of poetry....This book is a tiny treasure." (School Library Journal)
    Members Reviews:
    Quirky, fun, and effective
This fun little book made me thankful for teachers like the fictional Mrs. Stretchberry who inspire their students. Scott Wolf's narration is perfect and really helps make it work.
    Audio weakness
Narrator was okay - no exceptional. There was a real problem with the volume level. I've never experienced this problem before with Audible. I had to turn my car radio to full volume, and it still was not loud enough. Strange.
Use this book in my classroom
What did you love best about Love That Dog?
I use it to teach plot: narrative elements and theme. I can then pull it back out for the poetry unit. The audio version added to the experience.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Miss Stretchberry..........model of what teachers strive to do
    Which scene was your favorite?
I love the entire book. However, when Jack wants to learn to "type" I get excited as he is taking responsibility for his own learning. This is huge for a student and one I always point out to my own class.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes ...but that would be a spoiler
    Any additional comments?
I have used "Love That Dog" as a read loud in second and third grade. It works even better in sixth grade, as the depth of meaning, and literary devices can be discussed more effectively. It is a book that almost every student can relate to.
    Love that book...
If you could sum up Love That Dog in three words, what would they be?
    love that book :)
What other book might you compare Love That Dog to and why?
Can't think of anything other than Crash by Spinelli and The Tiger Rising by DiCamillo because the main characters seem like they could be the same kid.
Have you listened to any of Scott Wolfs other performances before? How does this one compare?
    no
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    yes
    Any additional comments?
I teach small groups and they all were interested and glad to be able to hear it all in one sitting. It was also used later for a whole class listen and discussion.
    fun short read.
What made the experience of listening to Love That Dog the most enjoyable?
Scott Wolf does a fantastic job! While the story doesn't have much of a plot, I was entertained the whole way through.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Love That Dog?
There are many memorable points throughout this story, since it's sort of about a young school boy learning about himself and becoming an author ... the most memorable point is probably near the end...
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes.
    Any additional comments?
I didn't come away with any particular "inspiration" from this story, nor find it an enthralling; but it is still worth the read if you're looking for a short simple story for entertainment.

    One Major Flaw
If you're teaching this along with the print novel, be aware that the chapters of the book to not match with chapters in the audiobook. This audiobook is divided into 8 chapters, but there are 30 chapters in the book. I had to manually save a bookmark at the end of every chapter to make it work for our in-class readings. Quite a pain and a waste of time! Otherwise, the reader is good, and the story is solid.
Ok story buy slow monotonous reader
story was good but the performance was quite slow and monotone. would have liked a more dynamic reading.
Excellent! This is our most replayed audio book
    Any additional comments?
My12 year old girls and I think this book was excellent. The story is excellent as is the narrator. We have all listened to this numerous times (daughter says more like a gazillion). In fact when looking for new audio books for a recent road trip we all agreed that if we could just find another book as good as this one we'd all be happy.

Rare '70s Historical Fiction for kids
Where does The Liberation of Gabriel King rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
This book is great for teaching kids that the civil rights movement is more than just Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks. The Liberation of Gabriel King uses a light touch to introduce kids to the Black Panthers, the KKK, and the peanut farmer who won the presidency after America lost faith in the office. The real message of the book, however, about overcoming your fears to stand up to bullies and the power of friendship.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
What would your list of fears include? Spiders? Jumping off the high branch into the creek far below? Or perhaps the Klu Klux Klan on your door step? Are you ready to face your fears with two Georgia kids in the hot summer of 1970?
    We loved this engaging story
We listened to this story on a recent road trip and all four of us - a 10 year old boy who likes hard core adventure and fantasy, a 9 year girl who likes gentle, realistic stories and both parents, loved it. It is a wonderful mix of memorable characters, thought provoking situations and just the right amount of tension. The narrator does a wonderful job. Highly recommended.

Another gem from Pam Munoz Ryan
Just a wonderful audio book --my kids ages 5 and 11 and I all enjoyed it equally. As good as Esperanza Rising and nice to read after that one.
    This book is awesome!!!
I liked how Naomi has to try to find her inner lion and when she does find it she is more than a lion. I choose that rating because the woman read the books characters parts so well. And the book was a good story and i think every person on earth should read it!!!
    Best Book Ever
I Loved This Book So Much! It Teaches Me That You Can't Use Your Kids Just For Money, And Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover.
    Great story!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to kids age 10 and up--good to listen with a parent because there are adult problems viewed from the child's perspective (alcoholism, abandonment, divorce).
Who was your favorite character and why?
The main character (Naomi Leon) grows and changes in an important way in the story, the plot is interesting, and the setting changes enough to keep everyone engaged.
    Which scene was your favorite?
I loved the scene when they wake up in "Baby Beluga" (their grandmother's trailer) as it is driving down the highway.
    Any additional comments?
The reader has a nice way of changing her voice to fit the characters--she does a good job with accents and with the Spanish words.

    Low point of the series
While an entertaining and fun book, the core characters in the "Anne" series just make cameo appearances. I think this was one of the books L.M. Montgomery wrote because she was pressured to, so somehow it doesn't quite reach the level of Anne's House of Dreams or Rilla of Ingleside. One can't help being annoyed with a father who is so absent-minded that his children are in constantly in danger of serious harm, but is quite able to pay enough attention to find a wife, who is obviously meant to devote her life to raising his 4 children (dear as they are).
The narrator does not add to the listening experience at all. At least once every five minutes, she emphasizes the wrong word in a sentence, does not bring out the different characters with different voices, and is generally flat. I would have given the book 4 stars otherwise.
    Life on the Island
Really good children's stories are not about children nor exclusively for children. "Heidi", Joanna Spyri comes to mind. "Heidi" is a story about adults and adult behavior told from a child's point of view. Further I offer: "Pollyanna", Eleanor H Porter; "A Little Princess", Frances Hodgson Burnett; "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm", Kate Douglas Wiggin; and since we are reviewing Lucy Maude Montgomery, "Anne of Green Gables". In every case, it is the adults who are the central actors and in whom great changes were wrought even while the spotlight follows the child star.
Rainbow Valley certainly is not equal to the above works but it is packed with funny stories and wonderful tiny adventures. In one place, a pompous minister's coat tail caught on fire in the midst of a solemn lecture. Another time a girl wrote a little too truthful letter to the editor which put the town into an uproar. Then there is the pet rooster which gets to participate in Sunday dinner. Besides, every book doesn't have to be the greatest. Pretty darn good is not a bad ranking particularly for the prelude to that really terrific Montgomery work, "Rilla of Ingleside". I have enjoyed a number of Audible titles which are merely pretty darn good, Angela Thirkle and Laurie Viera Rigler come to mind.
Isn't it interesting the difference between how the schoolyard fight was handled and how it would be treated in one of today's schools where typical boy behavior is criminalized? Police, handcuffs, courts, family service...oh, egads! There many other differences which make me think that all our progress is less than stellar;instead is a loss of our humanity. Some progress.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention the narrator, Grace Conlin.

Would you listen to The Shore Road Mystery again? Why?
My kids love all the Hardy Boys, especially ones narrated by Irwin. Ages 4-8 love listening to all available stories by him.
The Best of the Hardy Boys Audiobooks
I read a bunch of the Hardy Boys books when I was a kid, and my kids have loved rediscovering both these and Nancy Drew mysteries on Audible. I've ended up listening to most of them with them, and with this one -- I felt like the Hardy Boys audiobooks really hit its stride, making it the most entertaining of the Hardy Boys series. Irwin gives mostly a straight read, but his Chet Morton is hilarious, and while the brothers help bust a stolen car ring with the help of their friends, Chet becomes a vegetarian (FOR SCIENCE!!!) and also plays a significant part in stopping the thieves. If you want one ride back down the road of nostalgia, this is your best bet.
These books are pretty standard from a story perspective and without much characterization. Narrator Bill Irwin is the MVP here, somehow managing to make it all very listenable despite the books' shortcomings. Still, the boys getting to solve mysteries when the grown-ups can't (or at least, can't do it alone) is fun times for my kids.
    Awesome
love audible... story was great and narration great. I have several hardy boy books... not huge on the newer ones, but love the older ones.
    Another solid Hardy Boys
Good story with steady pace. A little more serious violence than usual. Four attempted murders, not just against the Hardy boys. We listen to these with our kids, this one we would have skipped if we pre-screened.

    Adventure Unlimited
Brian Jacques once again transports us to the magical country of Mossflower and Redwall Abbey, with it's brave and wise beasts, and evil, marauding vermin. The story of Lonnar Boldstripe and his quest for revenge is interwoven with the quest of Briggoon and Sarabando to find a cure for the paralysed haremaid Martha. The two stories mesh togother nicely and the ending is both happy and bittersweet. The production values on the audio are first class, with a large cast investing the characters with individual voices and personalities.
Although this is ostensibly a book series for children, much of the action would be a little too violent for the young ones and could cause nightmares. It is one of the best audio interpetations I have ever listened to, no surprise, give the author's background in radio, and his involvement in the project as both narrator and executive producer. Well worth acquiring, whether you are a long time fan of the Redwall series or a first time listener.
    Vintage Red(wall)
One of the better entries in Brian Jacques "Redwall" series.
The story begins near the seashore, where a pair of otters makes a shocking discovery - two badgers who have been attacked by the vermin hordes of Ragga Bol. One is dead. The other, Lonna Bowstripe, is badly injured. The otters take the great creature in and help him to recover. Lonna recovers, swearing revenge on Bol.
In the mean time, two of Redwall's prodigal "dibbuns" return home after a lifetime of wandering. Bragoon the otter and Saro the squirrel soon leave the abbey to find a cure for Martha, a young haremaid confined to a wheelchair. This cure can only be found at the ancient abbey at Loamhedge. They soon find themselves the unwilling teachers of Redwall's three current troublemakers, who have decided to join the adventure.
While Bragoon, Saro, and the others are off on their quest, Ragga Bol and crew attack the abbey, attempting to take it for their own, and enslave the peaceful creatures within. With the Otter crew gone for the season, and no warrior in residence, the residents of Redwall must rely on their own intellects to keep the vermin at bay until help arrives...
amazing love all his work and books always have

    Another Garth Nix Success!!!
After reading the first volume in the Keys to the Kingdom series I was excited to read the second. This book contains non-stop engagement and interesting storylines and plots. This series doesn't quite live up to the standard Garth nix set in the Sabriel series. However, the narrator did a fabulous job creating a vocal personality for every character. I would recommend this to any Garth Nix fan.
Fantastical and descriptive, a great performance!
Garth Nix brings to life an impossible world through text, and Allan Corduner breaths life into that world with his wonderful range and tone.
    great performance
The narrator is great, his range of characters excellent. See also Septimus Heap Magyk for perhaps his best performance.
Tuesday is not as good a story as Monday, but still wonderfully creative.
    Good fun.
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes it was time well-spent. The entire series is aimed more toward children however I enjoyed it and had a lot of fun. The narrator does an excellent job with his different voices.
