PERFECT FOR MULTI-AGE CARPOOL

My carpool of a 1st grader, a 3rd grader, and a 5th grader just loved listening to this. They were mesmerized. What's also great, is that there are probably 20+ different mysteries, each only a few minutes long, so that it is convenient to stop and start it. ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!

This is such a wonderful book and the narrator only adds to the story.

She does an amazing job with the different characters.

I love that this book keeps you intrigued and completely engaged without needing to make the story too scary or sad.

Great Jumpstart to Reading!

My son was having a hard time getting excited about reading chapter books. I got this audio book and had him read along in the printed copy. He read straight through and loved it! Encyclopedia Brown was always one of my favorites when I was young. It's great to see how timeless and inspiring these books are for young readers. Everyone loves a good mystery!

Cynical old bag loved it

I'm in my 50s, but had never read this classic. (Saw the film and Broadway version). My usual taste is non-fiction or Ruth Rendell and other contemporary mysteries/thrillers. I LOVED IT! Beautifully written, full of insight into human nature and appropriate/inspiring for all ages. Go for it. Especially for a time when you need a good healthy dose of hope.

As good as it used to be

On a whim I downloaded The Secret Garden for a road trip. I read it 20 years ago and loved the story, but like all things over time I had forgotten the context of the story. It was such a joy of re-discovery to go back to the Yorkshire Moors and the secret garden. The narration was superb which added to the magic of the classic story.

Great Book

I wish I had read this as a kid, but my school did not require much reading at all and that which was required was usually photocopied and stapled together. A sad affair, I know, however this book was wonderful, fun and made my laugh and feel great over and over again.

Would you listen to The Secret Garden again? Why?

It was fun to listen to someone else read this book. I have read it many times, but had never heard the correct "yorkshire" pronunciation. The "yorkshire" is important to the book, and my experience of this book was greatly enhanced by hearing it. Reading the book can be difficult (especially for a child) because of the dialect, listening to it made all the difference.

There were so many narrators to choose from, so my 10 year old and I listened to sample after sample to narrow it down to this version. I know the story well, but the 10 year old had not read it. We could hardly stop listening.

What did you like best about this story?

In this story skinny, cranky, unlovable Mary meets spoiled, sad Collin and through their relationship with each other, and a few down-to-earth friends, heal themselves by turning their attention outward to nature. I love how the children are able to help each other, instinctively figure out what is good and healthy, and keep such a wonderful and important secret safe until they can reveal it to those who are most precious to them.

Which scene was your favorite?

I love the scene in the secret garden when Collin stands up and walks and the gardener Ben cries.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When they sang the Doxology I was very moved.

An Old Story, But Wonderful

I never read this as a child, but should have. To me, the true test of a children's story is whether it appeals across the generations. This one does. As much as it is another variation on an old theme (children, in their simpleness, being smarter than adults in helping others, such as Pollyanna), it is worth reading.

The narration was adequate.

Fantastic Story

Would you consider the audio edition of Kenny & the Dragon to be better than the print version?

I've never read the print version, so I am unable to adequately answer the question.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Kenny & the Dragon?

That Grahame's favorite dessert is creme brulee.

What about Alan Cummings performance did you like?

His voicing and overall enthusiasm. Alan made the story come alive and I could picture the scenes in my mind as I listened along.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have liked to, but was unable to.

Absolutely love and would recommend to all ages.

An animal "redo" of The Reluctant Dragon!

What a great story, the narration was fabulous.

Although the story is familiar the animals give it a nice change. I enjoyed it!

in car children stories

the entire Geronimo Stilton story series is a wonderful value! the stories are captivating, funny, and exhibit variety and excellent learning for basic values on treatment of others, travel, geography and fantasy for children from 3 to 10. for parents driving kids to school every day, to piano, swimming, soccer, holidays etc. the cd's provide in car quiet and great activity concentrators. the repeated listening over and over can be a challenge, but normal for every young family. I have bought these for two sets of grandchildren and get regular hugs from my sons and grand daughters! as a grand father I am allowed to mimic the story teller and immerse myself into the stories with my grandchildren -what more could one ask for? great value and hours of entertainment and car quiet!

What a Mouse!

The Geronimo Stilton audio books are great for all ages. I purchased 4 titles in the series and they are fun for my 7 year old granddaughter and for me, too. We've listened to them all at least 5 times as we are driving to school or to the store.

Geronimo Saves the Day

I originally bought Geronimo Stilton on CD for the car on vacation with the grandkids. I never see it now, because it circulates between the houses of my three daughters. They never tire of it. Even though it has a seasonal theme - It's Halloween You 'Fraidy Mouse! and Merry Christmas Geronimo, they still love to hear it over and over again. It's especially helpful for bedtime stories when on those hurried occasions, there's no time to stay and read a few books. They love to listen to Geronimo's adventures.

Where does The Case of the Midnight Rustler rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

Our family has been a fan of these audio books since the 1980's. They are delightful and entertaining to us adults and to kids of all ages. The characters are entertaining. John Erickson is the author and also a terrific voice actor. He truly understands the mind - and heart - of a dog!! His stories have a rich plot full of great characters, lots of wit and humor. Hank has a very inflated idea of his position on the ranch and is always in scrapes which he gets out of by sheer luck or pure bumbling. These are great to listen to in the car, on long trips. at bedtime... We wore our tapes out and went to CDs and now we have them on the computer through Audible. You will not go wrong starting with book 1 and just adding to your collection a book at a time!

Wonderful Children's Book

My two girls enjoyed this audiobook very much. The stories are filled with vivid descriptions and subtle moral lessons. I am sure we will return to Josefina again and again as they grow older. This was our first experience with the American Girl collection, and we will certainly return for more!

Great Fun!

These books are a production. They are similar to classic radio story hours with sound effects, music, and dramatic, over-the-top voices. This is a series of updated and re-vamped R. L. Stine books. The formula is simple: kids experience mysterious supernatural events and (after overcoming the horrors) get invited to an amusement park called Horrorland. The final half hour of each book builds on an over-arching plot in Horrorland that encompasses all of the new characters and villains.

(About This Story)

In the second of the Horrorland series, Creep from the Deep, Billy and his sister Sheena are visiting their uncle, Dr. Deep, a marine biologist with a mini-submarine and (unrealistically) no staff to speak of. The uncle is looking for a sunken pirate ship and has invited his nephew and niece along for the summer. They end up on a deserted island running from zombie pirates, who have what is probably my favorite chant from any of the books: "You ended our death. You ended our sleep. The men come alive in the briny deep. So come with us, come with the men. And meet your fate with Captain Ben."

This story was less "scary" than Revenge of the Living Dummy, but it also had a more exotic and refreshing backdrop with the ocean/desert island set-up. The characters from this story were present in the old Goosebumps books Deep Trouble I & II, but in reality Creep from the Deep is a complete revision of the siblings' story. It's well done--neither my husband, stepdaughter, nor I thought there was any missing background information or disjointed narrative. There is also more of a focus on family working together against the enemy and less petty in-fighting than in the previous novel, which we appreciated.

My stepdaughter loved the chant by the zombie pirates, too, and has since made up her own chant for when we go swimming. I don't think this story is her favorite--she tends to prefer the book narrated by girls--but I do think it's her favorite male-narrated story so far (we're on book 9). She gives it 4.5/5.
