Excellent for children and adults

My family and I loved this book. I have a 10 year old son and a six year old daughter. We listen to audiobooks in the car, and some of them make us want to keep driving--this was one of them. It captivated both of my children with the humorous adventures of the Melendy children. We will download the next one in the series immediately!

Excellent for all ages!

Our whole family (kids 6 & 8) enjoyed this! It made travelling fun! (better than videos) Highly recommend - wish all the Melendy stories were available.

Lovely family story

What a delight to have these books to listen to, for both children and adults! Enright is a skilled, observent writer and her characters are REAL --nevermind that she wrote these books more than 60 years ago, the children are just as engaging and relevent today. The Melendys have varied interests and are great sibling role models without being unnatural. If you want a family story that everyone will enjoy, this series is a great place to start. (My only reserve is the "foreward" is a bit dull for those who don't yet know the books, and should really be an "afterword".)

Great for All Ages

I struggle to find audio books that will appeal to all 3 of my kids aged 4 to 11 . Somehow the adventures of the Melendy children fit the bill and they have entertained us through several long drives. The stories are timeless, and I love the positive view of family they present. Here is a family that respects differences, makes up after quarrels and remains tightly bonded. Try out this first one and you may be hooked!

Great Book

Kids listened to this during breakfast. A great way to start the day. Kids thought it was funny. I really enjoyed the narrator's many voices.

Outstanding storytelling!

Timeless classic of that sets the standard for much of the contemporary high fantasy literature and programs we see today. A must read for children, YA and adults.

Just as good as the first book.

The Black Cauldron is just as good as the first book, the book of three. And it is also a book with even deeper meanings and more lessons to be learned.

One of my favorite books of the series.

Little does Karen know that he will be meeting those three hags again, nor does he know how important they will be to him in the future. this book is full of suspense companionship trials and tribulations and so much more. I love this series & wish they would make it these into a movie.

The Black Cauldron

What made the experience of listening to The Black Cauldron the most enjoyable?

Oh yes, after a long time away I am back again reading and listening (Audible) to Black Cauldron.

So finished again, must admit that I've forgotten parts of it, but all the better to enjoy again.

Just finished The Black Calderon wonderful balance of themes. Faith, friendship, courage, self worth and the balance of good and evil. Above all I think the lessons of discernment are done will.

What did you like best about this story?

The flowing theme of friendship and helping among friends.

The encountering of the three witches.

Much Better than the Disney Movie

The Prydain Chronicles was one of my favorite fantasy series as a child. I decided to listen to it again largely out of nostalgia. The story incorporates many old Welsh myths to weave an exciting fantasy world that centers on a boy who dreams of accomplishing big deeds but learns both humanity and courage.

This book might be a bit scary for very young children but most ages 7 and up will enjoy the magic and adventure. Of all five books in the series, this one is probably the most disturbing for younger children.

My only complaint is that after buying book 1, I discovered that there was an option to buy book 1 and book 2 in the series together as one book, so it ended up costing me an extra credit to get the entire series.

I loved it!

I listened to this book with my son and daughter and we all really enjoyed it. We especially liked the way that the speaker made the story come to life. The characters in this book were great and we were sad to see the story end. We wish that audible carried more Andrew Clements books. We would listen to them all.

The greatest series ever

WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT? *Quite* a lot.

Just buy it. Seriously. If you've read the second, you know that this series is amazingly original (despite it's Potter beginnings). This book just continues to be fascinating and unexpected and completely enjoyable, all while maintaining robust integrity. Even when the really unexpected happens plot-wise, it seems natural the characters would behave as they do. Nothing feels contrived or forced. I've said it before, and I'll end with it now: Why isn't this WAY more famous? It should be. A lot of people would love it. (I mean, advertise(!!), publisher people...)

Where does Rainbow Valley rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

Rainbow Valley is a favorite. I used to get the audio book from the library all the time, so I decided to download it on audible so that I'd always have it. In my opinion, it's one of the most underrated books in the series.

What did you like best about this story?

L.M. Montgomery never fails to create lovable characters and paint vivid pictures in the mind of the reader. I love the dynamic of the Manse kids, the mischief of Mary Vance, and the romance at the end.

What does Barbara Caruso bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Being read to is highly underrated. Caruso's voice is the kind that can remind you of being read to as a child by a teacher, parent, grandparent, etc. Her voice is homey.

Although, if I were to give one criticism, it is odd to hear an older woman voice so many children.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Any moment between the Manse children and their father

If you're looking for a story all about Anne, Gilbert, and their children and will not be satisfied with anything else, this story will not appeal to you. The story centers primarily around the family of the preacher in Anne's town. Her family is in the story as well, especially her and her housekeeper Susan, but if I were to guess, I'd say that L.M. Montgomery wanted to create an all-new story and set of characters and place them in a familiar world. This is not really a continuation of Anne's story so much as a lot of fun stories about the hi-jinks of some rowdy, well-meaning children.

I loved this book so much!

The story reminded me so much of Anne of Green Gables (book 1). Also, Barbara Carusso (the narrator) is fantastic!

Well worth it!

Expressive narrator made for a great story. This story is less focussed on Anne's family and more about new characters introduced by Montgomery.

Avonlea Fan! ...

If you are a fan of the Anne of Avonlea series, L.M. Montgomery or both ... you'll LOVE this audio book! The lady who reads it does an excellent job on the voices. You'll laugh and cry and not be able to to put it down! Highly recommend!!!! My new favorite!!!

An exciting read!

I found it hard to put down this WWII novel. Marcel and Delphine are well-drawn and likable characters today's children will want to get to know, and McDonough's research into the historical period enriches their story. The characters' shared love of bicycling adds a new twist both boys and girls will enjoy.

what a great book for kids that love adventure. Even though it's historical fiction it's fun and entertaining.

Riveting, sensitive story set in Holocaust

From first page, I was drawn into the story of Marcel and his friend Delphine. Author Yona Zeldis McDonough artfully tells the story of how Marcel becomes an upstander for his young Jewish friend and her family during the Holocaust. The main characters are authentic and endearing. I read this to make sure it was age-appropriate for my 8-year-old son, who has become interested in reading stories from this time period. I highly recommend it as a wonderful, sensitive read for parents and children alike. It is not gory or too traumatic for a child to read, yet it also educates children about the importance of standing up for those often seen as the 'other,' whether they are Jews, Muslims, African-Americans or another group. This book is particularly timely now.

A Wonderful/Terrible Story

I am warmed and heartbroken, at the same time, by this story. The true facts are horrifying, and the ending is beautiful. I never learned about the holocaust in school. I first heard of it watching a documentary, and from there studied it on my own. Now, as a homeschool teacher, I want my children to learn and know this tragic part of history. I do not want these people to be forgotten. This particular story is so well written. It is very different, in my opinion, from Anne Frank's story. I really enjoyed the new perspective. I also appreciate how well written this one is for young people. The words tell the story without being too graphic, but still getting the truth across. My children will be reading this, as well as the Anne Frank story. I know it will add so much to their understanding of the holocaust. This book was captivating! The narrators voice was nice, and she did wonderfully with the German accent when it was needed. Great listen!

Now this is a Family Story

I enjoyed this book. I read a lot of the holocaust literature and some WWII history --this story was definitely one of the will to survive. The family was so close to being able to leave Nazi Germany but instead the story is an accounting is of their life of struggle for 6 years. It's a 2-1/2 hour read and I recommend

Four perfect Pebbles was a story worth listening to. Even though this family was able to stay together they still suffered many hardships.

Compelling account

I read this story to my 8th graders when I was a teacher and recently listened to it on a road trip with my 3 children. Marian's story is one that should not be forgotten.
