Publisher's Summary:
Captain Declan Ross is a pirate who wants out. He is desperately searching for a treasure that will free him and his daughter from the piracy business forever. His crew is starving, and his ship is falling apart in shark-infested waters. Desperate for supplies, they sail into the territory of pirate Bartholomew Thorne, the black-hearted rogue who seeks to destroy anyone standing in the way of his finding the legendary treasure of Constantine.
Meanwhile, a 16-year-old awakens on an island, alone and brutally injured, with no memory of who he is. The rare diamond he clutches will bring him between the pirates and their treasure, but will it also be the key to his own identity?
Wayne Thomas Batson weaves a spell-binding adventure filled with high-seas drama where battles rage, voices whisper from the tomb, a long-dormant volcano awakens, and a sea creature slithers in the deep as pirates race for the hidden treasure.
Members Reviews:
Narration is atrocious
Good story line but the narrator does a very poor job with accents. The Scottish accents sound Jamaican half of the time. The French accent becomes Hispanic. It was very annoying. Occasionally the pattern of speech seemed deliberate and disjointed which was also distracting.
Narration is so awful I could not listen to book
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
The only person who may enjoy this narration is a four year old.
Has Isle of Swords turned you off from other books in this genre?
I will never listen to another book with this type of performance. I'm upset I wasted my money on this book.
What didnt you like about Anthony Brawners performance?
It was terrible. His accents were unrealistic and not consistent. The music at the start of every chapter was distracting, startling, and completely unnecessary.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment and annoyance.
Any additional comments?
Please do yourself a favor and do not get this audible book! Read it yourself, but do not listen to it. It's awful.
Good Story, poor narration
Would you try another book from Wayne Thomas Batson and/or Anthony Brawner?
Yes he is a good writer; hope it is a different narrator
Who was your favorite character and why?
Cat - young, strong, mysterious
What didnt you like about Anthony Brawners performance?
Poor accents, even the Scot sounded Jamaican.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Isle of Swords?
n/a
Great story, narrator needs more training.
Any additional comments?
I don't believed they used a professional reader for this book. The accents change , sometimes in mid sentence. Jamaican and Scottish often sound the same. My son, 10, gave up on this book after 2 chapters. We are reading it allowed and he likes it more. I think this work was just a bit too advanced for the narrator skill level. He does a great Jamaican thought, I'll give him that.
Great Book
This was a great book!!
I enjoyed the story and look forward to other books by this author.
