Short and tense

I got this book for a short, inexpensive romance fix - and it fit the bill perfectly. The narrator was above average, which to me is a big part of the audio book experience. The story kept me on the edge of my seat - it's romance, after all, and romance always has a happy ending, doesn't it? Although I had some ideas on how it could turn out, the author had me guessing til the very end how in the world the hero and heroine would ever get their happy ending in this situation. I started it over from the beginning, just to hear it all over again.

Ugh!

I like the troubleshooter series so I thought I would try another one in a different setting. Wrong! Every two minutes some one was crying or repeating in their head how much they adored the other one. The narration was sappy and breathless. I knew there was a plot in there but it was hidden.

Not worth a credit!!

Let me say this, I love Suzanne Brockmann. I've enjoyed many of her books. Just not this one. This story was written a long time ago, and I found it, dear I say it, boring!! Story was old, premise was old and trite. If you want a "contemporary read" this would NOT be it.

Too Rushed

This book had a good story to it, but it was too rushed. It didn't seem as if the author wanted to take her time in creating the story to a fuller extent. It was disappointing and not worth the money to me.

Good, but not great

For a Suzanne Brockmann story, this book was just ok. It didn't quite pack the punch of her Troubleshooters series, and perhaps this is an unfair comparison. However, once an author shows what they are capable of, it's hard to accept less. The characters and storyline of this book were kind of unremarkable, but likable enough. I'd recommend giving it a try.

Comical Funny Romance

I actually really enjoyed this audio. It made me laugh out loud on some parts. The storyline was enjoyable and very light hearted.

I am a complete Nerd, right down to my Star Wars references. I understand Maddie's obsession with scoring high on all tests no matter what the title. Also, I am a huge Mike Peterson fan from the start. She is infatuated with Cullin Slater and the object of helping her increase her score and get her career off the ground at the same time. The witty banter between Maddie and Mike kept me amused. But it was the intricate ways and descriptions of how she brought up her slut score that made me love .... OK lust for more. This is a nice piece of junk food that will inspire you to increase your slut score too!

Ok for what it is...

I've read a lot of this type of book and this is pretty much the same formula. The narration was good, the story was pretty good. I wouldn't listen to it again, but it wasn't bad.

A Little Shallow

Overall I did enjoy the book but it was definitely not one of my top reads. It had some slow sections and at times I was wishing the book was over.

definitely not at her best

this was very disappointing. she should stay away from romance novels...it dragged on so badly I didnt even finishi it.

Couldn't finish this!

I've enjoyed all the Tami Hoag books I've read / listened to up until this one. Her books always include some romantic elements, and they're usually pretty well-done but this one was so cheesy and over the top I just had to stop listening before the end. Perhaps it was written for a differnt audience than her other books -- like a Harlequin romance series?

Romance novel

If you want the usual Tami Hoag thriller, then don't get this book. I was very disappointed as this was nothing more than a romance novel.

Not worth the money

I normally like this authors books , but this one was terrible..the story was bad ..I got to chapter 7 and couldn't listen anymore .. there was no real story and what there was of it was slow and never really got anywhere ...The characters were shallow I would guess would be a good word for it and not very interesting.I could have taken or left the narrator it really didn't matter since there wasn't any content to the book. .

Yes and I did! This one is my fav out of the "Sweet"series (southern nights, persuasion). I am a fan of the Eaton Family series.

Boo Narrator

This is one of the all time worst narrators. Apparently to her, all male characters have scratchy voices. It irritated me all the way through the story. Male does not equate scratchy. Surely there is a more creative narrator out in the world with better ability.

Wanted: Narrator

This book HAS to be read again. The accents, inflections made for a painful experience. I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing.

Innacurate in many ways....

The story is interesting, but I had a hard time listening to the narrator. This was the worst attempt at cajun dialogue that I have ever heard. Having spent 17 years in south Louisiana, I was appalled at this attempt. This narrator had the cajuns in this story sounding like backwoods mountain characters with a 3rd grade education. Her attempt to replicate the cajun patois was way off the mark.

I normally like the writings of Dorothy Garlock, but the innacuracies in this story were glaringly apparent. For example, North La. is the home of lumber mills and pine forests used for logging. South La. is the home of cajuns and in 1930's So. La. there wasn't a lot of mixing between the people of So. La. and the people of North La. Since interstate highways hadn't been built yet, people stayed in the area where they were raised--geographically close to their extended families. It was not at all like the cultural melting pot we see today. I still can't figure out where this fictional town is supposed to be located because of this irregularity.

Also, the author mixes up a lot of the Acadian/cajun dialect with Parisian French dialect. For example, the cajun people of So. La. do speak cajun french, but it is far different from the french spoken in France. There are a lot of regional phrases that are used in So. La. that would never be used in France. Conversely, things that would sound normal in France, would never be said in South La. Those are the things that kept showing up in this story. The character of Gabe is not believable in this story because of his language. For example, Gabe calls Adrianna "mademoiselle" many times in this story. In reality, he might call her "Cherie" or "Cher" (pronounced Sha), but never mademmoiselle. Next time someone wants to write a story about cajuns, I highly recommend that they talk to authentic cajuns before starting.

That said, I still enjoyed it.

Not recommended

Honestly, this has to be one of the most painful experiences with audio books. I liked the narration, but the voice she used for the heroine was weak and very immature sounding. The heroine has some backbone to make her getaway at the beginning of the book, but it's all down hill from there.

Another Tender Caribbean Romance - Johansen LITE

I have learned to love Iris Johansen's romances (I've listed some of my favorites at the bottom of this review). One thing many have in common is wonderfully complex plots, multifaceted characters and exotic locales. I loved this story, and like the related story, ONE TOUCH OF TOPAZ, it takes place in the Caribbean. While I recommend it, I cannot give it 5 stars because like TOPAZ, it's lacking some meat in my mind. That is, I wanted more story, more plot, more of what Iris Johansen delivers so well. 277 pages just wasn't enough.

Lara Clavel, an American, is out to make sure her twin brother Brett isn't wounded again, or worse, in the fight for freedom of St. Pierre, a Caribbean island country (fictional). So she agrees to risk her life to save the life of the poet warrior who is the rebel leader, Ricardo Lazaro. She agrees to purposefully get caught and taken to the dreadful Abbey prison where he is being held and the guards use her to try and get to him, forcing Lazaro to take her virginity. In the process, Ricardo falls in love with her. Once free, he does not intend to let her go. Then suddenly all that changes...

Don't get me wrong. This is a well-written romance by one of the greats. But there could have been so much more story. I didn't want it to end so soon. So, if you're looking for a quick read that won't disappoint, get this one--and the related one, ONE TOUCH OF TOPAZ (I'd read it first). But if you like her very complex stories, you might want to consider her other historical novels that I believe justify 5 stars:

--The Wind Dancer series: The Wind Dancer, Storm Winds, and Reap the Wind (buy the 1991 version of this last one) and there's a 4th, Final Target I've not read (for which the reviews are not as good)

--The Beloved Scoundrel

--The Magnificent Rogue

--The first in the Sedikhan Series: The Golden Barbarian

Charming story

Such and AWESOME BOOK !!!!!!!!!

I was not able to put this book down, I read from start to finish in 24 hours AWESOME, AWESOME BOOK. The whole time I read the book never did I get bored if anything one minute I was laughing then crying. These (with out giving away the the book) kept you on you're toes. You never new what was going to happen. I LOVED THIS BOOK, THE AUTHOR DID AN AWESOME JOB!!!!!!!! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, Happy Reading.......

Intesting read. Good story line

A Sure Fire Winner

First of all, the title is deceiving - the twins were never left on a doorstep or anything similar. This is the first novel of a two-book set. I recommend reading this book before reading ACCIDENTALY PREGNANT because it will enhance the reading experience of the second novel.

Gabi Turner is a successful advertising executive. Her Greek half sister, Thea, while celebrating a divorce from an unscrupulous Greek businessman, drinks a little too much and ends up having a one night affair with a man she believes to be Andreas Simonides, the CEO of the very large and successful Simonides Corporation. To prevent a disastrous scandal she refuses to disclose his name. During her pregnancy she develops a heart condition so she finally tells her sister, Gabi the father is Andreas Simonides. A few months after Thea dies during childbirth, Gabi makes contact with Andreas and tells him of his two twin boys. Her intent is to clear the way so she can adopt the boys without undermining Andreas' parental rights.

Ms. Winters takes this scenario and crafts a heartwarming story about unselfish and supportive people rising to the occasion and do the right thing for these two young boys. Mix in the fact that the actual father is not Andreas the bachelor, but is Leon, Andreas' married twin brother. Add the fact that, allthough Leon really loves his wife, on the same day he meets Thea, he learns his wife wants a permanent separation. Leon is emotionally decimated and also drinks too much. Then consider how very much Gabi has come to love the boys while, at the same time, she is working to hand them off to their biological father. Finally, as if that were not enough, she learns that Andreas, the man she has come to love with every fiber of her being, is expected to announce his engagement to his long time girl friend at almost any moment.

The twists and turns of the plot, the larger than life and very well developed characters of this novel keep the reader's interest riveted to the pages. I thought I had everything figured out several times, only to be surprised again and again.

Goodbye Special Forces :)

This story is like a glass of cold milk after a spicy meal. Went through so many emotions with SF, but it was nice get a bit more of some of the characters. Granted Dan wasn't in the book, but all in all a great read for SF fans.

I did not read Aleksandr Voinovs Special Forces series yet, and I'll not make any parallels with its glorious predecessors. Apparently, there were some flashbacks of Vadim's past that I felt a need to know more, but it's all on my account.Thiss not all about business and hot monkey sex, thought there are lots of them. This's just to begin with.The story is about Nicolay's exploration of a sexual relationship and developing a deeper bong and probably then a commitment. It's about his choice whether to betraying someone whos been nothing but good to him. There is also conflict over the business dealings and a lesson about the father-son relationship.
