Sweet Clean Romance

This is a really sweet romance that is squeaky clean. There are a few hot kisses but the action never gets to the bedroom.

I really enjoyed this book it has great characters and an engaging story line. Rebecca is very sweet, but do not let that fool you, she has spunk as well. Derrick is a yummy, hunky and oh so serious doctor. He needs a gal like her to lighten him up!

There is a lot going on in this story, definitely loads of coincidences in the beginning. Almost as though fate is trying to get them together. It was kind of cute.

While I enjoyed the story it was extremely detailed about everyday life. As a reader I really do not need to know every small thing a character does when when gets home. Just tell me she iced her ankle and it was painful. I do not need to read everything she did to put that ice soak together. Also, the Vet scenes we more detailed than I needed. I know nothing about being a Vet or Vet Tech, so the fancy jargon was wasted on me.

The POV switches out between not just the leads but supporting cast. The switched are jumpy and brief at times. We go into somebody's POV for only a sentence or two and then back to the lead. It makes the story feel very disjointed. The great thing is the narrator does a wonderful job of keeping the reader in the know about who is speaking with her changes in tone.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Rebecca Roberts, who is great. I enjoyed her swift pace and smooth tone. She did a terrific job of infusing emotion and energy into the read. One of her best attributes was the way she handled the changes of POV. She helped keep them clear during a very choppy narrative. Her voices were consistent and distinct, which helped keep the switches clear.

Even with the issues I had, I was thoroughly entertained and can not wait to start the next book. While this was a romance it felt more like a mix of fiction and light suspense. The romance was kind of light, up until the end. Then things got real, fast!

Best bachelor firefighter story yet for me

Of course I haven't read them all yet, but this one really resonated with me. I loved both Lara and Patrick "Psycho." They were very well developed characters who dealt with a wide variety of problems really we'll. I loved the llama. She added a cute touch to the story.

Patrick and his younger brother's best friend Lara met 10 years later after disaster strikes. How they both deal with what happened then and in the meantime make them very special characters. You saw only glimpses of Psycho one the previous books, but here he really shines. I really just loved the whole thing. The wildfires and family issues just made this more deep, in my opinion. You really do want to read them in order, starting with One Fine Fireman novella and then going on to books 1 - 4 which is this one. If you like hot scenes, action and a good dose of humor sprinkled in, you should love this'd series. Besides, who doesn't love firemen? Enjoy!

Longest journey starts with a single stroke. : )

Psycho's story is easily my favorite from the series to date. Patrick is from a small town in Nevada called, Loveless. After a tragic accident he never returns to that town and his past. That is until his Captain offers his an opportunity to go help with the wildfires that are endangering his hometown. Patrick hasn't seen his family or Lara in what seems like an eternity. Both left Loveless to never turn back. Love him or hate him, Patrick wasn't the kind of guy you ever forgot.

The old friends to lovers is one of my favorite troupes. Patrick is cocky and forward and obviously very interested in his old friend, Lara. Lara? Not so much.

"I don't think we should be involved anymore. We'll still be friends, of course. I'm glad we got to know each other again. And I really appreciated the... well, having sex with you."

I have to say, I almost died with how hard I laughed at her saying this. Can we say awkward?

Of the 8 in this series that I have read so far, there isn't a point that sticks with me more than when Patrick is trying to prove to her how he feels.

"But it comes down to this. I love you. I want you. I trust you more than anyone I know. I admire you. I respect you. And I can't keep my hands off you. To me, that adds up to spending my life with you. But, if you aren't there yet, I'll wait.

Ridiculous waste of money

I had to back it up several times because it keep putting me to sleep

Short sweet adorably unbelievable!

I suppose there is no room for serious or believable in such a short time. Yet this was a sweet silly snippet of maybe.

NARRATOR : Catherine O'Brien did a wonderful job! Totally different voices and personalities rang true by her talents!

CREDITWORTHY? Just buy it! It costs less than a credit does...

HEAT FACTOR: There wasn't time for a historical novel that is not erotica to build up any steam. It does not raise the thermometer at all.

Loved it!

What a fabulous, gentle, loving story that Barbara Bretton has written.

Yes, it has the logical conclusion, yes, it's a feel good story, but it is rich, the characters are well rounded, it is beautifully descriptive & an honest depiction of real life. No larger than life characters. Full of angst, pathos, fear, empathy, joy. The development of Kate was great. We see her naked emotions & the conquering of her fears.

I love the narration, Mary Ann Jacobs did such a splendid job, that I felt I was right there as a fly on the wall, in the middle of it all. Her rich, warm voice had just the right flow, it wasn't stilted, as so many narrations are.

A great listen! Highly recommended

Promise Me More

This is a post apocalyptic romance - unique from most other new adult romances on the market. The bad boy/ good girl dynamic was never fully developed though. So for most of the book, I was left with more questions than answers. The story is good so far, as is the narrator, but I'm holding out for the next book to give it a full appraisal.

Ok... but not great!

Would you try another book from Paige Weaver and/or Renée Chambliss?

So when I saw some of the reviews I thought... Hey sounds interesting? Post apocalyptic romance OK... The Start was good. Bad boy and good girl typical dynamic but the more the characters got developed the more I started to have a REAL problem with the heroine of this story. She made bad decision after bad decision. She is 21 but really the mental age is 16! They are in dire situations and all she can think about is having sex again? Really you are all banged up, out of water, out of food and have hundreds of miles to go but that is still all you can think about? No... don't think so! Having said that I don't really regret having listened to the book... It was OK and the narrator was OK too but I hope the author really strengths the heroine in the next book or it will really bring the book down again.

Good but.....

I so expected so much more from this book. First the friendship of Mattie and Ryder is well... confusing a bit. Are they friends are lovers... and why is Ryder pushing Mattie away even after they get together... I was just like eh!

Don't get me wrong, it was a well worthy story and I found myself glued to it...but I was glued b/c I was just waiting and waiting for that moment when you just know this is gonna be a great story...but it never came... Story was interesting...but not great... Maybe book 2 will be better. Even though the story wasn't great...I still want to know what happens to the post-WIII world going on here...

Good credit...I wouldn't buy. Save your money... Plus, don't use your credit on this unless you are waiting for another book to come out... It will pass the time away... But this is not a must have...

I really enjoyed this listen it was a great story from the author to the narrator. Ashton life is about to change when her familys scandal breaks and her boyfriend dumps her. If you cant take the heat get out of the kitchen which is just what Ashton does. She leaves it all behind from her career to her money moves to the small town of Paradise where no one knows her and she starts over. What she finds is she likes the normal quite life along with her hot handsome neighbor. Eddie is a wild child who likes his women hot and his cars even hotter. He isnt looking for love and isnt ready when his hot little neighbor moved upstairs. This is a story about secretes filled with drama along with trying to outrun ones past.

I really likes Ashton she was really down to earth with her background you would not have expected that. I guess she is kind of the black sheep of the family always trying to do what is expect of her but truly wanting a different life. She loves her new life but her family wants her back things get interesting when her father comes to visit trying to bring her back home. Next up is her ex which leaves some very trouble times in his path. She must decide who and what she wants and why she wants it. It is time to make a stand and go with ones heart.

I just fell in love with Eddie he has a troubled past that breaks your heart. He is the towns bad boy trying to outrun a painful past. There is nothing you will not like about him he is a true blue American man that takes your heart with his bad boy ways. My heart really went out to him in so many ways.

Teri Schnaubelt as narrator did an outstanding job with wonderful character voices. She puts feeling and emotion in her audios that reach you down to your toes. Her male voices are as good as her female voices. She gives you a smooth clear listen with no background noise or breaks in the audio. You can hear her passion, pain, sorrow and love in her voice as she takes these characters and gives them life. There wasnt anything I didnt enjoy about this audio from her refreshing voice to her rich tones.

I really loved that these characters where friends before they were lovers.

nice but not thrilling

I bought this because I REALLY enjoyed Toni Blake's other Destiny novel, "One Reckless Summer" that tells us the story of Mick and Jenny. Very real, very emotional with plenty of heat and you really cared about both the hero and heroine. Here In Half Moon HIll, I really wanted to enjoy this couple, Anna a Duke the biker dude who I did like together, BUT I felt I never got a real chance to! They have quick encounters, a smidge of dialogue and then we're off to each character having a super long monologue discussion with her/himself about their reactions and thoughts to said exchange. CONSTANTLY!!! And SO we barely get enough long meaningful exchanges and experiences between the two (oh we're told about them here and there) so that I did not get a complete picture of these two-- to experience them as the reader. I don't want to be told about it. It just got so very tedious and kept on in this vein. And they are quite likable and I liked them together but I felt cheated!

Then a heck of a lot of attention is given to a diary of a lovelorn teen our heroine finds in the attic and reads and we read it along with her. Not that interesting! I wanted more Duke and Anna, not Cathy and Robert!!! I found this really annoying and distracting.

And although there was a great backstory here to Duke's pain it was not used to its fullest. (See Mick in Reckless Summer!!) ANd then it all gets wrapped up pretty darned quickly. A nice read, but I did not find it satisfying at all. Sorry!

Duke and Destiny!!! Loved it!

Half Moon Hill is the 6th book in the Destiny Series by Toni Blake. I keep thinking, every time I read a Destiny book, "this one is my favorite!" Then I read the next one and feel the same way again, it's wonderful!

Anna Romo is the long lost sister of the Romo clan who feels quite out of place after returning to Destiny at first. After buying an old Victorian mansion, making friends, and bonding with her family, she begins to enjoy the quaint town. The only glitch is that she has become a bit of a loner. Enter Duke who turns her world upside down!

Duke Dawson is a big sexy biker man living in a cabin in Anna's woods to escape the trauma and emotional turmoil going on in his life until he figures out a plan. When Anna and Duke stumble upon each other in the woods, it leads to a deal that Duke will help fix up Anna's house to get it ready for her bed and breakfast business.

Sweet Hector and lovable Charlee, delicious.

This series just keeps getting better and better. The boys of Fifth Street may be bad asses, but they have a code of honor to be admired. Hector hasn't met a three some he doesn't like. Charlee is a beautiful damaged girl who catches Hector's eye. There is something so different about her he can't resist. She needs to push her boundaries to let him in. Lots of angst, soul searching and making amends. Really good. Narration in this series is perfect.

Such A Sweet Romance

In the tradition of Reyes style, the story is all sweet loving moments. Readers can't help but fall in love with these men. This series just keeps getting better!

Absolutely wonderful!!! Loved this book so much and especially Hector and Charlie! Definitely worth buying!

Read it, don't listen to it

What didnt you like about Madeleine Lamberts performance?

I should have read this book not listened to it. Madeleine Lambert read the story with no emotion. I have been listening to audio books since 1995 when they came out on cassettes and there are only a few narrators that I made note never to listen to again and she is one of them. She does the voices of other characters just fine, but all the inner dialogue which is essential to the story, she reads like a machine. No emotion.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

All the struggle, but especially the ending.

I like both Maggie and Clay. They represent a full range of teen emotions in the midst of mental illness and the first love experience.

What didnt you like about Madeleine Lamberts performance?

The narrator is just a bad actress. I suggest reading the book on its own.

Beautiful, CRAZY love story of Clay & Maggie

This is a heartbreaking love story of two different people who fall in love for the first time only to discover that the reality of the situation is so much darker and bigger than the both of them. The story begins with Maggie a seventeen year old who is in her senior year of high school. She's a sweet and caring person. She loves her family and her two best friends, Rachel and Daniel and would do anything for them. Her life is anything but fun. She does the same things everyday and is not at all spontaneous. She starts to wish there was something more to life until she runs into Clay Reed, literally runs into him in the school parking lot. He's dark, mysterious and very good looking. Clay and Maggie form a strong friendship with some serious chemistry! Clay clearly has some issues, with erratic behaviour and massive mood swings, and Maggie tries to get him to talk to her, but Clay ends up having to reveal that he is suffering from serious mental illness. Although, she is shocked by his revelation, Maggie doesnt care, and after learning about his horrible past, she vows to be the one to stand by him and support him no matter what. There are a few bumps along the way, but their friendship soon develops into a beautiful first love. Clay is such a broken soul. He is desperate for happiness, to have a normal life with the girl that he loves so passionately, but his illness is a constant factor.Maggie & Clays story is one emotionally wild ride. Their relationship followed the array of highs and lows much like Claytons mental state. Their love for each other is very deep, and they pretty much exist in their own little bubble, with Clay clinging to Maggie as the one good thing in his life. He battles his illness while Maggie continues to try to help him.
