    Publisher's Summary:
Devastated by the loss of his older brother, teenaged Jared Weiss dons a mask and cape in pursuit of vengeance. He becomes The Paladin. Unfortunately, the real world isn't like a comic book, and wherever The Paladin goes, disaster is never far behind. Will Jared be able to avenge his brother before he winds up in a grave beside him?
    Critic Reviews:
"Kevin G. Summers' The Paladin really stands out as worthy of note. The story focuses on a teenage boy who has no powers and decides to don a homemade style Batman suit to avenge his brother's death and rid his city of drug dealers. It's a fantasy every comic fan can relate to, as well as a deeply emotional tale of a young man's struggle to find himself and his place in the world. The story is also full of references to everything from characters like Green Arrow and Nightwing to Dungeons and Dragons, making it an even more fun listen if you're a geek yourself. Above all though, the story stays true to real life and evokes a great deal of sympathy for its protagonist." (Eric S. Brown)

A Realistic Take on a Teenage Hero
If you could sum up The Paladin in three words, what would they be?
    Realistic teenage superhero
Who was your favorite character and why?
The Paladin, since he's a realistic version of someone like Robin.
What about Nick Wescotts performance did you like?
He sounded young enough to be the character.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I wanted to, but I wasn't able to.
    Any additional comments?
    I really enjoyed this story.
    Excellent audiobook
I really enjoyed this short / novella sized audiobook. It's a wonderfully crazy tale of a teenage vigilante/superhero, who fumbles his way though various mishaps!!
The bonus story is a well done story revolving around the discovery of a very rare comic by a teenager & some important life lessons learned! This makes a nice 'wind down' for the audiobook.
    Solid Short Story
If you could sum up The Paladin in three words, what would they be?
    Realistic Hero Story
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Paladin?
The most memorable moments are when Jared has to make hard decisions while fighting the pain and grief of the loss of his brother.
    Just plain fun...
What made the experience of listening to The Paladin the most enjoyable?
I absolutely loved the pairing of these 2 stories. One story The Paladin is about a mixed-up kid still hurting from his brothers murder and who wants to make the world right, cause the cops certainly aren't doing it and with a little creative vigilantism he's looking for a way to get even. His plan make himself a hero just like in the comic books! Come on I'm not gonna tell you what happens, get the audible version of this book! Plus bonus the second story is about finding a rare comic book and what happens.

Return of the "other" Green Ghost
For most pulp hero fan, if you mention the "Green Ghost", they will think of the character created by G.T. Fleming-Roberts for Thrilling, that ran for about 14 stories in the 1940s.
Here, we speak of an earlier Green Ghost. Created by Johnston McCulley, creator of Zorro, this Green Ghost ran for seven stories in 1934-35 in Thrilling Detective magazine. The Green Ghost is really former cop Danny Blaney, who puts on a green hood and gloves to fight crooks. We learn in the first story that Blaney was framed by crooks and lost his job as a cop, even tho a jury found him innocent. Though he fights crooks, he isn't much for cops either, because they think he's dirty.
He battles a new crook in each story, and takes a portion of their loot. By day, Blaney runs a tobacco store. But clearing his name doesn't seem to be part of the plot, and only in a few stories does he target those crooks who framed him. Each story is pretty short and enjoyable. There are almost no secondary characters, we see nothing of his personal life and don't see much of his tobacco store except at the end of stories when he drops by. Otherwise, the stories are pretty much the Green Ghost going into action.
He is similar to other McCulley heroes. You have the green hood, which is a more of a loose sack, and similar to the hoods worn by his other characters. But he's different in other ways. Being framed by crooks and turned on by his fellow cops, you'd think there would be an element of revenge, or atleast clearing his name, but there isn't that.
The original stories were reprinted by Altus Press. Now, Pro Se Press has put out a volume of new Green Ghost stories under their Pulp Obscura line. This first volume has 3 new stories. As always with new stories of classic characters, I always measure the stories against how well they got the character right. Writing style is not that important, and I will allow for improvements, such as better villains, but if they make changes to the character and is motivation, then I will say so.
The first story by Bobby Nash has The Green Ghost go after someone who has firebombed an apartment building in his neighborhood. Danny thinks it may be a scheme to buy up a whole block of property for development. Will he be right and can he put a stop to it?
The next story is by Don Thomas. Crooks try to frame the Green Ghost for murder, and he has to clear his 'name'.

    Publisher's Summary:
In the style of Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels, an every-man character travels to a land filled with mythical characters.
It's an adventure story, with the main character, George Taylor, having to confront and befriend pixies, elves, fairies, brownies, giants, dwarfs, mimis, sprites, satyrs, and mermaids.
But there is one character that is the most feared, and hated of all. The groll. A species that kills and tortures for the pure pleasure of seeing the pain they inflict. The tales of their evil are endless.
It's a love story as George risks his life to break a spell and return the love of his first, and only girlfriend, Justeen.
It's a humorous story with a sarcastic twist, as the mermaids, brownies and other characters have human characteristics that would make them fit in on Earth as well as the magical land of Negani.
And, like Jonathan Swift, it's also a story with many symbolic references to the cultures of the day.
There are dozens of creatures that Americans know (pixies, fairies, trolls, mermaids), some creatures are from other cultures and countries (adlet, mimi, will o' wisp, bahamut), and some are unique to this story (chameli, drakata).
All are thrown on the most boring, nerdy person in the world, George Taylor.

    Length: 12 hrs
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-21-16
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
In the wake of their aunt Amity's suicide, Scott and Madeline Madden are summoned to Caveat, the eerie, decaying mansion in the Hollywood hills in which they were raised. But their decadent and reclusive cousins, the malicious wheelchair-bound Claimayne and his sister, Ariel, do not welcome Scott and Madeline's return to the childhood home they once shared.
While Scott desperately wants to go back to their shabby south of Sunset lives, he cannot pry his sister away from this old house that is a conduit for the supernatural.
Decorated by bits salvaged from old hotels and movie sets, Caveat hides a dark family secret that stretches back to the golden days of Rudolph Valentino and the silent film stars. A collection of hypnotic abstract images inked on paper allows the Maddens to briefly fragment and flatten time - to transport themselves into the past and future in visions that are both puzzling and terrifying.
As Madeline falls more completely under Caveat's spell, Scott must fight to protect her. But will he unravel the mystery of the Madden family's past and finally free them...or be pulled deeper into their deadly web?

    Powers True to Form
Once again, Powers builds a narrative around alien occult principles that his flawed characters desperately try to comprehend to save themselves from destruction. Nobody creates entities so removed from human perspective and yet so internally consistent as to be believable, despite how fantastic they are. The story, though, is ultimately about the characters and their faults, desires, limitations, and nobility.
    Powers at his best
Tim Powers has a gift for convincing us, his readers, that vast complexities lie just outside the borders of the reality we perceive, and that regular humans occasionally stumble across those borders. But unlike many authors, who in similar trade leave us with darkness and despair, Powers so often comes back to nobility, courage, and love. His characters are often very much hurt or even damaged by their experiences, but they push ahead.
Medusa's Web, like many of Powers' novels, starts introducing confusing and outre events, characters, and clues almost immediately; but Powers' gift is to make them just intelligible enough to keep you reading, digging, and putting the pieces together, all while upping the stakes. He especially excels at hiding (in plain sight) the resolution of key plot points until late in the novel, where they suddenly look obvious in retrospect. It's one (but just one) of the reasons why Powers' novels are so re-readable; it's only on the 2nd or 3rd time through that you see how neatly everything was laid out before you from the very start.
    Highly recommended.
This is one of his better written books and pretty damned creepy.
I've been reading Powers for a long time now. This is a great book, I think one of this better ones. The characters in this book - they're weird, they've believable, and they're not SO interesting or developed that the book drags or feels over-written or false. They just normal, idiotic, weird, people that are crystal-clear in their personalities. The "trick" of what's going on in this book, the thing that's out of place, it's very well introduced in layers, and then peeled off layer by layer until you're filled with a sense of satisfaction and the sense of "oh sh&t" at the same time. Mr.

    Don't miss it
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This novel is an exciting, genre-bending exploration of young adult relationships and coming of age in a very creative "universe" constructed by T. Russel Jones. The setting is foreign enough to create the feeling of something new and unknown, with enough familiarity to draw the reader and the characters together. I am very much looking forward to beginning the next in the series later today.
Who was your favorite character and why?
So far, Ivy is my favorite character because she presents an experienced, much more than capable female role model for young readers.
What does T. Russell Jones bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
The author's narration is very well paced. She adds an element of character development through her tone of voice and expression of the characters feelings in a way that I would have provided for myself, had I read instead of listened.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Come along...to Neither Here Nor There
    Great first book!
Overall, very nice listen! Wonderful flow, with great build-up for next book in the series!

    Buy this book! Don't hesitate!
What a wonderful, heartwarming story! It's thrilling and tear-jerking all at once. The book is quickly read and almost immediately totally absorbing. I'm not going to tell the story because Pat MacEwen did it so much much better than I. She took great risks with her choice of hero and really knocked one out of the park.
Loved the New concept and Now I'm Hooked!!!
I read the review and thought, WOW, and crippled boy in a wheel chair who somehow gets involved with Dragons. OK, I have to read this one and see where this one will take the reader.
I found that the storyline was a bit slow to start but after the first few chapters, it took off and the story just took hold of me. Now I can't wait for the next one to come out.
I love how, just in the first book, the young man and the young dragon have come together and bonded as a small family. How they have to work together for both of them to survive. Team work and how the dragons mother learns that not all humans are evil or just meaty bi-products. The story is at a place that, it now, has me wanting to read the next one Right Now!
    Coming of age
This fantasy is totally satisfying. There is enough "meat" here, with marginalized teenaged (& well-developed) characters to give a satisfying read on plot alone. But the wonder of telepathic dragons, with very special mineral (coenzyme?) needs puts this fantasy nearly into the science fiction category (where I find the wonder and characters are often less satisfyingly developed).
I would recommend this as a must read for anyone who likes fantasy, science fiction, or just a well-told story. Definitely not limited to young adult readers!

    Great D&D style short
A short style about a dwarf and his quest after exile. Good quick pace, loyal companions, dragons, treasures, and more. Would like to see more from this world. Great narrator as always. Never been disappointed in one of his performances regardless of the base material he is reading. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
    Good listen!
I listened to this short book because I enjoy other works involving dwarves by Tolkien and Pratchett. It was well written and narrated. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
"Vargrom" was a great little fantasy short story.
I really enjoyed listening to "Vargrom: Modrad's Exile." It was fantasy that I could understand. Some fantasies are hard to follow but this one was nice and a good listen. I liked all the characters and of course Modrad. My hope is that Kevin Hopson continues this adventure.
    J. Scott Bennett did a nice job with the narration. His voice was a great match for the story. I liked the way he changed it up for the other characters besides Modrads. This shows him to be a versatile voice actor with an excellent performance.

    Modrad's Exile
Modrad's Exile is a fast paced and engaging book. It moves along nicely and the characters are well developed. The narrator does good job of bringing the characters to life. It has an interesting story line that kept my attention and had me interested in coming back to this world.

    Publisher's Summary:
Tess Noncoir is a best-selling fantasy writer. She's also become a demon fighter trained in martial arts by the Sisterhood of the Celestial Blade Warriors and partnered with a mischievous imp named Scrap. Together, they must find a young Native American girl who has disappeared - before she falls victim to a ferocious hound. As the hunt grows more desperate, the forces of darkness close in on them. Will an old Native American myth prove the key to salvation or to the end of life on Earth?
    Members Reviews:
    Too muddled
Fantasy author Tess Noncoiré's latest novel is her biggest success yet, but all is not going smoothly for her. She's still mourning her late husband, Dill, who died in a hotel fire two years ago after a brief marriage. Then there's the pesky issue of demons. Right after Tess was widowed, a mysterious fever led her to a secret Sisterhood dedicated to fighting demons. Tess never fit in and was asked to leave, but the training has stuck with her -- along with her familiar imp, Scrap, who has become her best friend and who can transform into a weapon when evil is nearby.
As Hounding the Moon begins, Tess saves a young Native American girl from a rampaging dog. When the dog and the girl keep reappearing in Tess's life, she learns that they have a role to play in a Lakota myth, and that Tess's help is needed to bring about a positive outcome. Meanwhile, she has to contend with her first romantic relationship since Dill's death, and with the revelation that her marriage might not have been quite what she thought it was. Peppered among the present-day chapters told from Tess's point of view are a number of "Interludes." These feature Scrap's point of view, scenes from Tess's past in the Sisterhood, or both.
The storyline concerning Tess's grief, and her coming to terms with it, is touching and emotional. These are some of the best scenes in the book. If I do go on to read more TESS NONCOIRÉ novels, it'll be to find out what was really going on with Dill, as questions are raised but not exactly answered.
The plot of Hounding the Moon is confusing at times, and the book is filled with scenes that don't do much to advance it. One example is the early scenes featuring Tess's eccentric family. I usually enjoy domestic scenes that lend a little warmth to urban fantasy's tough-girl heroines, but in this case, there's so much domestic stuff that the story grinds to a crawl for it. Another example is the many SF conventions Tess attends. I'm a con-goer myself, so I know cons are fun -- but it's hard to capture their charm in writing. Too often, Tess's con adventures feel like a recitation of the schedule: she goes to a panel, she goes to the dealers' room, she goes to a party, and so on. There's one con scene that worked really well, though: the filking scene at the end. "There's a Bimbo on the Cover of My Book" is a funny little ditty that spoofs cheesy science fiction and fantasy covers.
I didn't understand some of the decisions Tess makes. For instance, Tess spends much of the book searching for the dog and the girl, but when she hears they're nearby, she... sits back down at her restaurant table and cracks open a book.
