it's more like an outline than a book
the whole series was just a little underwhelming. I wanted to like it, the first book hooked me but after that nothing ever seem to live up to its promise. There was a great deal of action but nowhere near the necessary World building or detail that would have made this a proper Tale. I love Simon Vance he's always exceptional as a narrator but I just couldn't put my stamp of approval on this series. It's not bad and it definitely got me through a couple of long nights of work but I wouldn't necessarily recommend anyone to spend their credits on it. Too many things needed fleshing out, too many things needed more detail, too many characters were two dimensional or lacking and relatable motivation. so much occurred that was never explained or gone into to the point where it added to the story. Like my headline says it felt like most of the details were bullets in an outline rather than details containing necessary substance for the world in which it was set
Wonderful ending. Never a boring chapter.
A chapter on to the first book, I immediately put the 2nd one in my cart in anticipation for my next credit. When I finished the 2nd, I was disappointed when the 3rd wasnt available in audiobook yet so I had to wait a couple of months so when it became available, I was very happy. Just finished the book today and I thought the ending was carefully thought of and ensured it got straight to the point without too much drag. I was secretly hoping for a happy ending between the main characters but Im not the writer. The performance was great as well. Even with some accents, I could understand everything said and followed the story clearly.
    Absolutely fantastic
I love and recommend everything about these novels. Its been a long time since a series has captured my heart and imagination like this one has. So sad that its ended! I was kept in suspense and anticipation, found myself rooting for the protagonists and booing the antagonist. I will definitely be looking into other books written by this author!
    not sure why
so it was a great book part of a great series. Not sure why some reviews stated no ending just a stoppage of the story. While not the ending I was hoping for (was wishing for a more painful ending) it ended like most of these stories do. I finished this series and it was close to Cornwell's Last kingdom series but too short. Overall nice addition to the genre and if anyone has any suggestions where to go next it would be greatly appreciated
    Dont Like The Ending
This series was so good! There were twists and turns. The characters were interesting. The narrator was wonderful. The first book left me looking forward to the next as well as the third. But the ending!! The ending was anti climatic. It was expected. Its like the author gave up at the end trying to complete the book. Disappointing.

    Destiny of Dragons
I hope this isn't the last of this series because they are some of my favorites.
I can listen to them over and over again and enjoy them every time. The narrator is enjoyable to listen to as well. -Rena
    EXCELLENT.
Jack Campbell is a fantastic writer and Macleod Andrews performed superbly. The plot is very good, thick with mechanics, mages, politics and intrigues. Kira and Jason are caught in the middle of things. The romance between Kira and Jason continues to strengthen. I like the ending though I hope there will be more in this series.
    Paced just right
This is the third book in series I found it restful and easy to follow early on you knew that Kara was fighting herself and the manic behavior was a side effect so why didn't she pick up on it sooner? All and all it was a good read.
    stop the whiny Self Doubt
I love the storyline in the context and the writer but this whiny Self Doubt over whether Jason loves his girl or not is driving me up the freaking wall I mean self-doubt is one thing but this whiny stupidity is insane I put up with it for the last book series but I'll tell you if there is one more book with this whiny b**** acting this way I will return it before I finish it
    Excellent
This book, like all the others in the series and the series before that, made me laugh made me cry and made me want more. I hope the series isn't over.

    Cut the boy some slack
Ive fallen in love with this series. And for a while I couldnt figure out why. Was it the story? The story is decent but the motions are predictable to someone who knows the flow of novels such as these. Is it the magic? While interesting the magic is mostly soft and is based on feelings, and needs of the character. Was it the Characters? Most of them are archetypical: The young ruler hoping to prove oneself, the wise and world weary mage, and the kind hearted protagonist.
Then it hit me. The thing that made me fall in love with the series is its sincerity. Everyone is acting completely rational and towards what they think is best, either for themselves or others. And that often leads to the tragedies the characters suffer through. In fantasy it is often that good natured characters do so simply because they were written in one shade of ink. They do because they are. But the main character acts the way he does almost out of misplaced guilt and honest thanks for all those around him. Which is what leads to the heart reaching points when that faith and trust is abused and life continues to beat him when he is down. I listened to the 2 books out because I as the reader, know that the protagonist deserves better and I want the best for him. I could care less if the army of darkness takes over the whole world, all I want in that universe is for the protagonist to be treated the way I know he deserves to be.
Tim Geared Reynolds is one of my favorite narrators on the site (I recommend his performances in Dawn of Wonder, and the Riyria books).
    Alanson's first miss with me.
First the good. I like the world and the color added to it. Although rather small overall, there were a few nice moments... but...
This was a hard listen. It is a bridge book where so little happens that in another book would be covered in a couple chapters.
There were times I honestly wondered if Craig is getting paid by the word. Almost every detail is repeated so many times. Since most everything isn't actual plot advances, it gets crazy dull fast.
All the characters loose IQ in this book, not that book 1 gifted them with great intelligence, but the story was a good setup with room to grow.
Quite frankly, I feel confident that you will be able to move straight to book 3 when released and miss nothing important that won't be repeated twelve times in the first couple chapters of book 3.
I've liked all of Alanson's other books and provided solid reviews. and this is a rare bad review from me. The only two things that happen of any real plot are greatly telegraphed and obvious from book 1. These plot advances should have happened in book 1 then ended for a sequel.
I'm hoping for reparations to his fans by a solid book 3.
    Main Character...
I loved the first book but I felt like this was just fluff. More character development and less random traveling. I'm hoping the next will get the series back on track...

Stop whatever you are reading and get this one!!!!
Could not drop this book, the action is just draw dropping, it is so well written and The Narration is off the charts, i just wander why lots of people have not checked this book out, and i have to say, i have read over 500 books and this is the first time, i have ever deemed to write a review, that has to tell you something.
    Dont do that.....
It really ticks me off when a great story which is narrated great has quality issues with the recording. DONT do such a disservice to the author and narrator. Awesome book, awesome performance, recording people should be whipped.
A captivating read from beginning to the end.
One of my favorite books of the year. An excellently written book with top notched narration. I was totally captivated to the end.
    Words lost...
This was a good book and that it was written as a complete story is even better. The only complaint I have was that end of words and sometimes whole words would just dropped.
The narrator would be reading then sudd.... part of a word would drop off completely. This was made worse when ..... words went ........ Fortunately there were only a few places that it was really noticeable.
    Overal I recommend the book.
    amazing book!
I was skeptical about this book with such a mundane cliche title however upon reading/listening to it I can now say it rivals books like The Riftwar saga, Drizzt Dourden books, and even the Dragon Lance books from back in the day.
If you like fantasy and dragons then give this a try

Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Epic
    Publisher's Summary:
A stunning new novel from the number-one New York Times best-selling author - an epic of hope and horror, chaos and magic, and a journey that will unite a desperate group of people to fight the battle of their lives...
It began on New Year's Eve.
The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world's population was decimated.
Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magic rose up in its place. Some of it is good, like the witchcraft worked by Lana Bingham, practicing in the loft apartment she shares with her lover, Max. Some of it is unimaginably evil, and it can lurk anywhere, around a corner, in fetid tunnels beneath the river - or in the ones you know and love the most.
As word spreads that neither the immune nor the gifted are safe from the authorities who patrol the ravaged streets, and with nothing left to count on but each other, Lana and Max make their way out of a wrecked New York City. At the same time, other travelers are heading west too, into a new frontier. Chuck, a tech genius trying to hack his way through a world gone offline. Arlys, a journalist who has lost her audience but uses pen and paper to record the truth. Fred, her young colleague, possessed of burgeoning abilities and an optimism that seems out of place in this bleak landscape. And Rachel and Jonah, a resourceful doctor and a paramedic who fend off despair with their determination to keep a young mother and three infants in their care alive.
In a world of survivors where every stranger encountered could be either a savage or a savior, none of them knows exactly where they are heading, or why. But a purpose awaits them that will shape their lives and the lives of all those who remain.
The end has come. The beginning comes next.

    Magical Apocalypse "Lite"
I would give this about 2.5 stars if possible.
I am a Nora Roberts fan but not a romance fan. She is one of the very few authors in that genre that I will read. Fantasy/Horror type genres are much more up my alley. So I was pretty excited when I saw that Nora Roberts was releasing a book that was more to my usual tastes.
I REALLY wanted to like this book more. But I found it rather underwhelming.
Now, I wasn't expecting a lot of explicit violence and gory details. But.
It is very much in the vein of iconic books like The Stand or Swan Song. There were even shades of The Walking Dead, in setting more than in the zombie apocalypse sense. The fact is that this was one of the most boring apocalypse scenarios that I've ever read.
The story is told from rather a distant POV. We get very little of the nitty gritty detail of what it would actually be like to live through end-of-the-world-via-plague like you get in The Stand or even TWD. We have the same exit from New York scenario that is standard fare, but apart from a rather awkwardly-worked-in single scene, it's nothing like the harrowing journeys that make you really feel you are by the character's side, and bond with them, and root for them. You get no sense of the daily reality of what it is actually like to LIVE in a post-apocalyptic world.
The same can be said of the "magical" element.

    Are you kidding me?
Let me say this. The first and second books were absolutely superb. They literally could not have been any better in terms of plot, length or character development. I usually prefer not to read books that seem to drag on for 9 or 10 titles but I was perfectly happy with the idea of Dark Tidings being a long series IF it would have continued along in the same fashion. As others have already said, the absolute worst thing about this particular book is the ending. I was literally listening to the book driving to work and the book...just...stopped. Its like the author literally got tired of writing and decided to end it right the middle of a thought. I have never been so disappointed and for the life of me cannot understand why such a brilliant author would disappoint his readers to such a degree. But that's not all. The author seemed to linger and linger and linger drawing out certain parts of the story that seemed to add no significant importance to the story, The main character is undergoing some sort of mid life crisis whereupon he is unrecognizable even to the characters in the flipping book! At this point introducing new elements to the story (such as demons and elves and the fae) that weren't previously there is just too much and too ambitious even for a writer as talented as Kade. Stick with your main characters and the main story. Rezkin now has 3 personas and trying to add more to that is completely unnecessary when we all know he will have his work cut out for him trying to tie all three plots together while dealing with the main focus of the plot -- which is the mad King in Ashai. Had the author tied all of the unnecessary sequences and tangents together I may have been okay with it but there was literally no plot to this book. It was like a "mini'' novel or side story until the author finished with the main book. No build-up, no climax no conclusion. The narrator -- who is brilliant on all accounts is the only reason I continued listening until the end to be honest. The ONLY reason I decided to give the overall review 4 stars is because I am hoping the author had some sort of excuse for this failing and will redeem himself with book 4. Other wise he will have effectively ruined a very special story and lost an audience of loyal followers.
    Seemed rushed
I loved the first two books but this one seemed rushed and departed from the first two in a big way. It wasnt bad but it wasnt exceptional either. If this was a tv show it would be a filler episode.
    Almost Unacceptable! (0.5 stars)
    Sigh... How to start.
I guess the book was well written in regards to sentence structure, and it was well narrated...
"STOP! Why, WHY!.. I kneel at your feet, and with eyes of despair I beg you. Answer me this: Why did you have to bring in elves, fey...

    Publisher's Summary:
The eagerly awaited sequel to the New York Times best-selling Words of Radiance, from epic fantasy author Brandon Sanderson at the top of his game.
In Oathbringer, the third volume of the New York Times best-selling Stormlight Archive, humanity faces a new Desolation with the return of the Voidbringers, a foe with numbers as great as their thirst for vengeance.
Dalinar Kholin's Alethi armies won a fleeting victory at a terrible cost. The enemy Parshendi summoned the violent Everstorm, which now sweeps the world with destruction and in its passing awakens the once peaceful and subservient parshmen to the horror of their millennia-long enslavement by humans. While on a desperate flight to warn his family of the threat, Kaladin Stormblessed must come to grips with the fact that the newly kindled anger of the parshmen may be wholly justified.
Nestled in the mountains high above the storms, in the tower city of Urithiru, Shallan Davar investigates the wonders of the ancient stronghold of the Knights Radiant and unearths dark secrets lurking in its depths. And Dalinar realizes that his holy mission to unite his homeland of Alethkar was too narrow in scope. Unless all the nations of Roshar can put aside Dalinar's blood-soaked past and stand together - and unless Dalinar himself can confront that past - even the restoration of the Knights Radiant will not prevent the end of civilization.

Strong Storytelling, will upset Kaladin fans
Oathbringer is book three of five. The first five books in the Stormlight Archive tell their own story. Later, another set of five will tell another story. Sometimes all the heroes win in the middle, sometimes they fail. In this book, we have both wins and losses. In one book, you have three small novels going on, with important points of view from many people.
Sanderson dives deeper into the cultures of Roshar and the conflicts that have nothing to do with the bad guys. Instead many of the conflicts are inside different characters own heads and hearts. This aspect of the story will be hard for many fans. This aspect of the story is important. Awareness of bias and of mental health issues is important. Its rare to see them addressed so directly in an adventure fantasy.
But in this book, Kaladin, the hero of book one and book two is not the star. He has growth, but not the awesome growth of power leveling up I think many fans were hoping to read. Instead, Bridge 4 as a whole, is given more points of view and room to grow. Sometime these are painful in heart wrenching ways, but in beautiful character development ways.
Dalinars flashbacks will make you look at him differently. It will be hard to see a hero in such a different light. Journey before destination everyone. His journey is a strong one.
The ladies of the Stormlight Archive are given more room to grow here. But at times it is a backward growth. At others it is wonderful to see them breaking the molds of Voirn culture.
Once you turn the page on Part 5, get ready for a rush of a ride. You will not want to put the book down for the final act.
Many important magical questions are answered in this volume of the Stormlight Archive, but it raises more questions.

    A skeptic entertained
Honestly, I am not a passionate fan of the sword and sorcery fantasy genre. I am a huge fan of the Expeditionary Force series and RC Bray's narrating. So it was with quite some hesitation that I purchased this book after listening to what I felt was a lackluster uninteresting preview. I wasn't convinced the story or narrator would be a worthy investment of my time and money.
I preface this review with my doubts not to troll the author or the narrator but to give context for my review.
First, after having completed this book I can't imagine a better suited narrator for this story. The narrator quickly dissolves away into the story and there are only a wide variety of characters and adept accents left. Production value was very good. There were no noticiable splicing of vocals, popping, lisping crackling "ssss", or sharp audible inhalations from the narrator that are still far too commonplace in audio production these days.
The story is a well tested, well worn one but the relateable and developed characters make it easy for the listener to be absorbed into the environment as an observer. I am pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this story and can't wait to listen to book two.
A great coming of age fantasy tale
I have to say this isn't like Craig's other books. Instead of aliens this is a deep rooted world of magic, wars and outlaws. I guess it just goes to show the imagination of the author is quite wide. The book is entertaining and I found it enjoyable. However it could due with a bit more humor. But then again i'm a Skippy fan.
    AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY
Loved it with one constant reservation
This was a really well written first book in a series. It's definitely at the high end of the quality spectrum from the writing and story-telling angle.
My reservation... I have read or listened to quite a few books whose major plot points are repeatedly driven by misunderstandings, characters accidentally over-hearing the exact wrong information at the exact wrong time, and characters inexplicably not revealing pertinent information that otherwise would bring resolution instead of conflict. In other books this usually happens "because reasons" or with no explanation whatsoever. With a book where this happens over and over, I usually make it about 4 hours in and then return it with prejudice.

I recommend the whole Arcanum collection, but if you only want to know about Stormlight this cuts right to the heart of it.
    Dare I Say... Awesome?
This novella follows Lift, the quirky preteen orphan who attempted to rob the Emperor's Palace in Words of Radiance. After Lift's miraculous display, she's smothered by attention from the viziers and scribes until she decides to run away. Her flight takes her to Yeddaw where she finds Darkness, the Shardbearer who almost took her life. When Lift learns he's on the trail of another fledgling Radiant, she has to discover their identity before Darkness does.
The audiobook doesn't contain Lift's original chapter from Words of Radiance, although the Kindle edition does. But if you're reading Edgedancer, you've probably already been introduced to Lift. She's a character you'll either find really annoying or really endearing. I personally loved the spunky girl, but at times still felt frustrated with her forced immaturity. Then her innate generosity and protective nature would shine through and I couldn't help cheering for her again.
This novella is important to read before Oathbringer. Think of it as Stormlight Archive 2.5. Sanderson shines again with the setting, a city carved by Shardbearers right out of the stone ground. He's able to create a new and original culture each time he introduces a city, with such vivid imagery I feel like I'm there myself. Lift's magic is fascinating, I can't wait to see what she does with it in the future. And Wyndle might be my new favorite spren, after Syl of course!
Kate Reading is... well she's Kate Reading. Professional, polished, and put me right there in the story. I'd highly recommend this read to fans of the Stormlight Archive, not just to complete the series, but because it's a really enjoyable read.
    Missing the lengthy prologue!
I haven't finished this, but fair warning: I purchased this book in both Kindle and Audible format. The audiobook is missing the 35 page prologue in its entirety. That's crazy.
I intended to listen to this on my drive home.

It's Aleron Kong & Nick Podehl narrating...
What made the experience of listening to The Land: Catacombs the most enjoyable?
I love the way Aleron Kong writes... so the stories themselves would be good enough for me... but when you throw in Nick Podehl's narration? It's just this combination that makes you feel like you cant get enough...
What other book might you compare The Land: Catacombs to and why?
I'm new to LITRPG's and The Land is really the first one I've gotten into...
Which character as performed by Nick Podehl was your favorite?
Probably the main character Richter... since he has to be such a strange read sometimes... he goes from talking all medieval to talking about goofy 2010 nerd culture stuff. So much fun.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The series has definitely been built up for me... there's such a high level of excitement inside me as I listen just because I know how good it's going to be because I've been so pleased with the previous 3 books. The majority of the book makes me laugh.... it hasnt made me cry yet.
    Any additional comments?

    amazing
I love this series and I can't wait till y'all finish the next books in it
Least favorite book in my favorite LitRPG series.
I enjoyed this performance and the characters (especially the Ron Swanson parody character) as I've enjoyed the previous three books, but for a few things.
    1) The title suggested the character would be plumbing the depths of The Catacombs...but never did. He mentioned wanting to go there...and then changed his mind. Wtf clickbait title?
    2) Nothing from the overarching storyline was progressed or resolved. Literally nothing. All problem solved we're problems artificially introduced within this book itself, as we're all goals furthered only made goals within this book. Goals, storylines, quests, and character development started in earlier books were totally absent.
    3) This book saw genital humor replace almost all other humor, and focused more on pop culture references and vulgarity to carry the dialogue, which was very disappointing.
All that said, I'm still invested and just hope hings get back on track with subsequent books. I really love the world and want to see more of it. I'm just disappointed hat this book felt like a "filler episode".
A better title for this book would be "War Party".
This as a good book but not as great as the others were felt more like filler content instead of main story but still good looking forward to the next one this one left you with a slight cliffhanger. Nick podehl is still as amazing as ever he is one of my favorite narrators. All the voices are aways so clear a distinct i never get confused by who is talking like sometimes happens with other narrators.
