    Publisher's Summary:
Disturbed when five books about death are returned overdue to the library, slashed and containing a warning on a bookmark, library employee Kathleen is terrified when people close to her start falling victim to tragic "accidents".
    Editorial Reviews:
Bored and dissatisfied with her job at the public library, Kathleen is jolted out of her ennui when five overdue books are returned to the library, slashed and containing a warning to all library employees. Narrator Judith West uses her mature, slightly raspy voice to great effect, shifting her tone to match the gradual buildup of suspense as the people around Kathleen begin to die in suspicious accidents. While West is particularly adept at the older characters' voices, her Kathleen rings charmingly true with a teenager's resentfulness and occasional petulance.

    Where was the editor?
I don't know if Richie didn't have a good editor for this novel, or if she was working on several at once and just didn't give this one the attention it deserved. Richie is a talented woman, and all I can think is that she lacked time or interest while working on this novel.
First, Kathleen. Usually Richie can take a protagonist and make you feel exactly what she feels--how she's in danger and wondering who she can trust but also afraid she's blowing things out of proportion. It's tough to say whether Kathleen was poorly developed or just extremely self absorbed. *spoiler* I mean, she runs around claiming to worry about her "friend", doesn't do anything to watch over/spend time with said friend, then acts all sorry and heartbroken (for all of maybe five seconds) when said friend dies. That friend was probably the most well developed character in the story. Too bad we hardly got to know him.
Then there was the nonsensical ending, with the killer being a character whose motives I felt made no sense, and having done things that seemed highly unlikely for that character to pull off. On top of that, there were a few things, like the truck accident, it's hard to believe could have been manipulated by anyone. And as far as Richie's writing that I so admire (seriously, she's the best), she switched perspectives at least twice and I caught at least one major grammar mistake. This is what clued me in that maybe she didn't take the same care on this one as she has on some of her best, like Someone at the Door, Teacher's Pet, and The Drifter. If you discovered Richie through this book and liked her work, I'm glad because this is the worst I've read so far (I'll have to edit my review of Summer of Secrets), and if you didn't like it but are into the whole suspense, tight writing, romance thing she does well, pick up one of the novels mentioned above and give her another chance. Someone at the Door, in my opinion, is her best.
    Fast pace and thrilling
Not bad at all. The characters are well written and can easily be visualized.

    Publisher's Summary:
Evaline Stoker and Mina Holmes never meant to get into the family business. But when you're the sister of Bram and the niece of Sherlock, vampire hunting and mystery solving are in your blood. And so, when two society girls go missing, there's no one more qualified to investigate. Now, the fierce Evaline and the logical Mina must resolve their rivalry, in order to navigate the advances of not just one, but three mysterious gentlemen, and solve a murder with only one clue: the strange Egyptian scarab. The stakes are high. If Stoker and Holmes don't unravel why the belles of London society are in such danger, they'll become the next victims
    Critic Reviews:
"The mishmash of popular tropes (steampunk! vampires! Sherlock Holmes!) will bring readers in, but it's the friendship between the two girls that will keep them." (Kirkus Reviews)
    Members Reviews:
Too Much Steam, Not Enough Substance
What a promising premise to Colleen Gleason's first "Stoker and Holmes" novel, The Clockwork Scarab (2013)! Irene Adler, AKA "the woman," the American opera singer who got the best of Sherlock Holmes in "A Scandal in Bohemia" and is now the keeper of British Museum antiquities, recruits Alvermina (Mina) Holmes, the great detective's niece, and Evaline Stoker, Bram Stoker's younger sister, to be secret agent/detectives discretely risking "life and limb for their queen, their countrymen, and the Empire," just as many young men but no other young women do. And the girls quickly find themselves investigating a deadly scheme to bring the Egyptian goddess of death Sekhmet back to life. The story is set in a steampunk 1889 London, for Parliament has passed an act banning electricity and promoting steam power. Thus the city hisses with myriad "cognoggin" gadgets of every size and purpose, including self-propelled Refuse-Agitators and Night-Illuminators, steam-powered lifts and trolleys, mechanized Tome-Selectors and corset removers, Steam-Stream guns and finger-sized steam throwers, and clockwork hairclips and dragonfly pins. Steam-London is a city of sky-scrapers, the tops of the swaying buildings held in place by helium-filled balloon-like sky-anchors. Did I forget the airships? As if all that weren't enough, Gleason tosses in time travel and alternate worlds in the person of Dylan Eckhert, an American from 2016 who believes that Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character and asserts that electricity has never been illegal. This leads to some amusing culture shock, as Mina encounters iPhones, Nikes, and slang like "cool" and "hot."
At first I liked the independent and spunky 17-year-old Mina and Evaline, trying to solve a macabre mystery while chafing at the restrictions, dismissals, and ignominies of their patriarchal culture. Tall and gawky Mina is a true Holmes, a girl of observation, deduction, and planning, while petite and pretty Evaline is her family's vampire hunter, a girl of action endowed with superhuman strength, speed, and healing ability. While Mina becomes winded during strenuous action and feels abandoned by her parents, Evaline becomes paralyzed before spilled blood and has to deal with Bram's wife wanting to marry her to some man who will take care of her. Mina is a willing recluse, Evaline an unwilling socialite.

    Publisher's Summary:
Eighteen-year-old Sarah Roberts experiences blackouts from which she wakes to notes written by her own hand. Prophecies. Dark Visions. Future events with dire consequences only she can avert.
Sarah is an automatic writer who suffers from a rare obsessive-compulsive disorder called trichotillomania.
She has dealt with kidnappings before, so when she receives a message that details a kidnapping, when it is to take place, and what she can do to stop it, she's ready. But things go wrong fast when the kidnappers recognize her from a previous intervention on her part. People are killed. Witnesses place Sarah at the scene.
The police find her notebook riddled with prophecies of accidents and crimes from her automatic writing episodes and they want answers.
Sarah is in a fight for her life with no one to trust. Her dark visions have brought her into the hands of a kidnapping ring who will do anything to find out how she knows so much about them. While the police hunt Sarah for the wrong reason, her parents think she is at a sleepover. Her life is in her own hands and whether she makes it out of this mess alive or not depends on how many people have to die.

    Slow and not well developed
    Any additional comments?
First book in the Sarah Roberts series.
The protagonist is an 18 year old psychic; however, the way the author describes her in the beginning gave me the impression that she was only about 13 or 14 years old. Most of the characters initially come across as unlikeable and lacking in trust. Also, the relationships between the members of Sarah's family did not seem credible to me.
    Can't wait for more
I absolutely loved Dark Visions. The story grabbed my attention instantly and kept it throughout the entirety of the book. I can't wait for the next installment.
    Good Listening. .
Naration was excellent. ...enjoyed it very much. Exciting story .Will get the next book and continue the series.
    great
If you could sum up Dark Visions in three words, what would they be?
You are so glad there is a nest book in the series
    Any additional comments?
This book is written and read so well right from the beginning. You are so glad you picked it .
    Different ...
This is unlike any book I've read. The main character was truly odd but she was tenacious and quick thinking, which I admired. The book contained some interesting twists and turns in both plot and characterization, with a surprise villain at the end. The narrator was great, easy to listen to. However, some of the characters, like Sarah's parents, were just not believable, or likable, and some characters were shallow. It didn't seem they added anything to the story. Overall the audiobook was okay, although I don't think I'll continue with the series.

    His best?
    Any additional comments?
I have read a few of Sanchez's stories and I think this the best of them. A powerful undercurrent runs through the entire novel. Obviously something awful is involved, but Sanchez releases the tension only bit by bit, as the reader joins the psychologist Vidas's exploration of Diego's trauma. The hurt seems palpable at times, and the role of victim and survivor are vividly expressed through Diego's thoughts. Well worth the listen.

    Very Disappointing
I loved the first book and immediately purchased Dont Look Now upon its release.
I praised Dont Turn Around for being smart and gutsy both in story and characterisation. They say you should be careful what you wish for though
Everything I loved about the first book seemed to have morphed into something inaccessible in the second book. The story was so far in motion when the book began I no longer felt like I was being treated as a smart reader but being cheated out of major parts of the story.
The tough and aloof heroine faced the challenges of social interaction and romantic entanglements only to become even more distanced and obtuse.
The multiple POVs that always kept us with the action were increased and I felt like I didnt get to spend enough time with any of the characters.
Now I could have forgiven a lot of this in the grand scheme of things because book 1 was so good and I still have hope for the series.
Unfortunately something happened before the turn into act 3 that made the book simply irredeemable. I do spoiler-free reviews so all Ill say is that the author has the heroine do something wilfully and unnecessarily stupid just to bring about the final act action. Selling out a character youve spent 2 books building as tough, smart and independent just because you need some action to cover a lack of plot resolution is utterly unacceptable
    .
Yeah, Ill read third book in the series when its released but this entry is torched for me.
Im sincerely disappointed with Dont Look Now and while Ill continue to recommend the series, I cant really tell people to pick this one up as it stands.

Then one day Brad confides in Tracy a horrible secret: His little sister Mindy has been kidnapped by his stepfather, and he needs Tracy's help to get her back. But even as Tracy commits to a plan to help her vulnerable new friend, details emerge that suggest nothing is what it seems.
The Twisted Window is a zigzagging thriller that keeps listeners guessing until the final minute.
    Editorial Reviews:
Brad is a handsome stranger with a dark secret, and he needs Tracy's help. But when Tracy (who has some dark secrets of her own) agrees to assist him, she ends up with far more then she bargained for. An action-packed, suspenseful ride with plenty of twist and turns, Twisted Window careens to an unexpected, brutal end. Performer A. Savalas does a skilled job capturing the brave, if vulnerable, heroine. Recommended for those who like their mysteries dark, disturbing, and reminiscent of Hitchcock.

    Hard to believe
Of course, it's fiction, but is it plausible? Stranger things have happened, but this story is not convincing. Still suspenseful and fun to read, though.

    Members Reviews:
    I feel tricked...
I feel tricked. The narration from the 1st story was over dramatic and hard to listen to, but it ended with such a cliff hanger that I felt compelled to listen to the 2nd story only to have to endure the same bad narration and left with the same cliff hanger.
Unless it's a different narrator, I don't think I can endure the 3rd book. I guess I'm just not that curious.
More action, less talking would be appreciated.
The saga continues with siblings Nick, Dean and Val along with survivors Lucas, Jackie and Clair heading out on foot once again. Against Nicks better judgement the group picked up survivor-hitchhiker Tahoe. When the group woke in the morning Tahoe was gone along with their Jeep vehicle, go figure. The horrible realization was that the vials of the cure were gone too. With fear and anger the group saddled up and headed out to find Tahoe and the cure. During their search Val passed on and turned. Now they didnt have the cure to give her. The story marches on as the search becomes more desperate. More action and less talking would be appreciated. Three.point.five for the effort.
The characters should have died many times.
Too much time spent on "feelings". And nervous mentioning of the wind blowing thru everyone's hair.
The group just seems common sense stupid.
An army tough guy & a cop allow some redneck idiots to disarm them? And they keep shooting all the time instead of noiseless kills & them act shocked when a bunch of zombies show up.
Romance & zombie plots really don't fit together.
    Warning: excellent plot; horrific cliffhanger!
What made the experience of listening to The Zombie Chronicles, Book 2 the most enjoyable?
The actor who voices this series is great! The fact that it's okay for certain older kids to listen to, also makes it awesome. I love being able to share my love for books with my son, as he is a captive audience during our two-plus hour commutes on Fridays and Sundays.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Zombie Chronicles, Book 2?
I'm going with the ending. When they walk into that hotel room with door already open... What they find is astonishing! I can't wait to see what happens next!
Have you listened to any of Mikael Naramores other performances before? How does this one compare?
Only book one of this series, but he is very talented in switching characters, and makes the story come to life!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Oh, I wanted to! So badly! But I was sharing it with my kiddo during our weekend drive time, and he made me PROMISE to wait for him to finish!!!
    Any additional comments?
Just that you should prepare to buy book 3, as this one ends rather abruptly in an excruciating scene! What???? What happens next??? Arggghhhhhh!!!!! Yeah, that kind of cliffie... Enjoy!

    Publisher's Summary:
Small town 17-year-old Vivienne Taylor is a talented equestrian with Olympic dreams and a little something extra going on - she is also an "equine empath", someone who has the ability to read horses minds and moods. When she receives a full scholarship to attend Fairmont Riding Academy, a prep school with a famous riding program, she struggles with homesickness, hazing by the schools snooty drama queen, intense competition in the sport of three-day-eventing, and the not-altogether-unwelcome interest of a hot guy. On top of all of that the horse given to Vivienne via the scholarship is an animal that she cannot "read" or understand. When Vivienne learns that her new horse, Harmony, belonged to the schools vet, who recently died in a freak accident, she senses that the horses aloof behavior may be the result of her witnessing this accident. But as a connection begins to unfold between Vivienne and Harmony, Vivienne begins to believe that the vets death was no accident at all - but rather murder - and she resolves, at considerable peril, to track down the killer.
Michele Scott lives in California with her family. With her days spent in the barn or at the keyboard, Ms. Scott has forged a flourishing career as mystery writer and is also deeply involved in the world of horses and equestrian riding.
    Members Reviews:
    Equestrian riding academy mystery
I got this book because it was about horses. I did not realize until I started to listen to the story it was written for young people or teens. I went ahead listening as the plot was interesting. Who killed the vet? The story takes place in Fairmont Riding Academy, our hero Vivienne Taylor is a scholarship winner to the school, she is a junior in high school with hopes of going to the Olympics. She is the daughter of a horse vet (her mother) from a small Oregon town off to the southern California academy to compete with rich kids. She is provided a horse, Harmony, and Vivienne, a equine empath can not get a reading from the horse. She finds out the horse belonged to the dead vet and the horse was present when the vet died. Vivienne is sure the vet was murdered and set out to prove it. Over all the book was quite good, my only complaint was the continues remarks about boys. Do teenage girl really act like that? Lots of good information about horses, jumping, dressage, and cross country competition. This was my sport when I was young so I was most interested in how it was approached by Michele Scott. The narrator, Amy McFadden does a good job sounding like a teenage girl.
Really hard to get into the story line
What would have made Silent Harmony better?
    Different narrator
What was most disappointing about Michele Scotts story?
Kind of cheese lines about reading horses minds.
What didnt you like about Amy McFaddens performance?
Did not really like her performance, was not believable as the character
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Silent Harmony?
I did not get to far in the book, the fact that they tried to portray the main character as actually being able to read horses minds was just to far fetched.
    Could have been better
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
If you want a mindless listen, this is a good one.
