Loves reading about the Amish. Thank you for selling these books.
    Five Stars
    love it.
A very good book, I enjoyed reading this book and loved the ending!
I loved reading a Cousins Promise, from beginning to end it kept my interest! I would recommend this book to all my Amish fiction reading friends! I am hooked on reading Amish fiction, and Wanda Brunstetter is one of my favorite authors! Keep writing them Wanda and I will keep reading them!
    Good Story
I liked this story because it deals with the reality of tragedy that can come upon us when we least expect it, and in it's own way, it helps us to know how the people involved were able to work through it, and with God's help come out of the depression that tragedy can bring about.
    Typical Wanda Brunstetter
There is more than enough drama and suspense in this old world for me. It took me a while to get used to Wanda's style of writing but I have come to enjoy it. I enjoy the simplicity of her books though I don't always enjoy the repetitiveness.
When I read a book I want something calming and Wanda's books never dissappoint me. I read some reviews written by others that were derogatory but this is just her style. I have all of her books except the children's sets so I know what I am buying when I purchase her writings. I enjoyed this one as I did most of the others.
Thanks Wanda for keeping with your style. I am on my way to read A Cousin's Prayer and looking forward to it. God bless, BJ

    Author: Janet Frame
    Narrator: Heather Bolton

Length: 6 hrs and 52 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-22-08
    Publisher: Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 10 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Grace, the protagonist, is taking a break from writing a long novel and seems to be losing her grip on daily life in London. She feels more and more like a migratory bird as the pull of her native New Zealand makes life in England seem transitory. The desire to leave behind the social human agonies of appearing neither too clever nor too stupid, too helpful or too lazy, becomes overwhelming for Grace.
Frame's observational prowess is apparent in Towards Another Summer in the vivid and heartbreaking passages about children and childhood and in Grace's growing awareness of the demanding forces of social convention.
    Editorial Reviews:
When Janet Frame died in 2004 at the age of 79, the world lost an underappreciated novelist but gained Towards Another Summer, presented here as an audiobook performed by Heather Bolton in a no-frills New Zealand accent befitting the prose.
Written in 1963, the novel was not released during Frames lifetime most likely because she considered it too personal. The simple story follows one female writer to a country house to spend a weekend with a journalist and his wife. Frame spares the listener a country farce and treats the listener to a meditation on interiority, longing, and relation. This audiobook is recommended listening for a long, reflective journey.

One of my favourite audiobooks. I've listened to it a few dozen times. The reader is brilliant.
Which character as performed by Heather Bolton was your favourite?
Heather Bolton is a genius. She takes Janet Frame's book to a whole new level! Brilliant.

    An ok book.
This book was ok and kept me busy listening while I do my laundry and other things I do while listening to my books, the end was a little "meh" though.
    a good story, very entertaining
the book was very good. I am a Mary Monroe fan. she does an exceptional job weaving stories together for one interesting plot.
    I love this book!!!
I love this book and the way things came together at the end! a must read for sure! Or in this case a must hear!
    Wow
Would you consider the audio edition of Red Light Wives to be better than the print version?
I didn't read the print version. I like audiobooks because I can discreetly listen to them in places where it would be rude to have a novel out reading (i.e. Work)
Who was your favorite character and why?
I like all the characters but I felt uneasy when Helen spoke. The book focused to much on her experiences which were horrible.
What does uncredited bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
    Don't understand the question.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Rosalee losing her family and the wives moving past that lifestyle. Even though some of their lives didn't turn out perfect they seem happier.
    Its OK
It was ok, it was hard to keep up with who was who. But the narrator Patricia Floyd is annoying, when she open up her mouth it sounds like she's smacking, and all that swollen she do before and during a sentence... UHG its annoying. Im not sure if I can continue listen to a book that she narrates.

Having suffered a tremendous loss, 17-year-old Rosie decides to make a fresh start. Taking a job as a nanny on a houseboat in Paris, she fills the void of loss with a new family. Almost immediately she lets the three children and their needy father, Marc, into her heart. As their relationship becomes increasingly intimate, Rosie soon discovers the secrets of the cold and detached mother, Nicole - whose demons are eerily similar to her own.
Masterfully giving voice and personality to each character, Suzanne Toren's narration does justice to Lily King's witty tale, leading the listener to both laughter and tears.
    Members Reviews:
A heady tale of love, loss and coming of age.
This book will capture your soul, you will grit your teeth, lament...find the snug warm emotion only family can give you, trip on the unsuspecting trials of sexual identity, bask in the heady light of burgeoning love. This novel is a journey rather than a story, a layered gateaux of sweet longing, bitter regrets and the strange duties deep affection puts on the ego. Destination, after all, is often not a place but a feeling of belonging, a sense of achievement a niche you fit into. For every heart that has yearned to resist inelegant temptation--here is the perfect recipe of understanding.
King's writing is bursting with color and primed with passion, it sweeps you off your feet with its many convoluted evocative nuances. The simple story of Rosie, the au pair with a tragic past, has so many angles it's as if it's reflected from a prism. The concept of a young woman perhaps being lead by her nose into guilt, or perhaps creating her own guilt is explored with such subtlety that it comes a a surprise to realize that this is really the theme of the novel. This kind of writing is rare, this type of author a 'one-in-a-generation' species. Not since I first read John Fowles have I been so deeply affected by the written word. The questions posed (without giving the plot away) : Did they plan it, had they done it before?
    I Loved This Book
Okay, I'm an admitted Francophile with lots of regrets about having come home when I should have stayed, but that was a lifetime ago.
Now, I have lived through Rosie and have loved the life that we lived. What a wonderful story, with lots of unanswered questions about how all of this comes about and where she goes from here. I would have preferred that the book go on forever. I would have loved to be there with her and if Ms. King wouldn't mind, I'd like her to send me another chapter every time she got a chance.
Like the life I decided not to live, this one is far too short.
A fascinating, charmed story. Don't pass this chance by.
    Excellent!
I loved this book. Just found it recently after reading Euphoria by Lily King, which is also great. The Pleasing Hour focuses on what it feels like to be foreign and unable to express yourself fully in a particular language, and how that applies to many parts of our lives no matter where we live. The author's understanding of her characters and her ability to help us know all their complexity is so impressive. The relationships and feelings are there to be absorbed, so expertly handled that it feels effortless. I highly recommend this book
    Pleasing another or discovering oneself...

With well-meaning but unhelpful ship's steward Albert Peasemarch and a toy mouse with a screw-top head thrown in for good measure, it will, indead, take the luck of the Bodkins to sort it all out.
    Members Reviews:
    Truly entertaining
keeps one hanging on wondering what seemingly impossible thing is going to take place next.
    Well written - well read
The publisher's summary sums up the plot very well - and Wodehouse is in his usual excellent form devising twists and turns, some of which you see coming and look forward to and others which take you by surpise.
Jonathan Cecil narrates this very well, handling a number of different accents with professional competence.
I listened to this with my father, a lifelong Wodehouse fan, on a journey from Buckinghamshire to Inverness-shire and we were only disappointed that our destination was not somewhat further away.
    The Luck of the Bodkins
This a most enjoyable book. The reader Jonatha Cecil makes the characters come to life. If like P. G. Wodehouse you will love version of The Luck of the Bodkins.
Clunky practice for Jeeves and Wooster
Although I'm a fan of other PGW books, this one is so full of characters staggering around in shellshocked silence at the news of some contrived plot twist, and then making ridiculously unlikely plot-advancing decisions in response, I simply couldn't make it to the end.
It's read very well though, and the sound is clear which sets it apart from other PGW books from audible.
    Pure bliss
If you are a PG fan it really is worth jumping from Bertie and Blandings to Bodkins (and all the other less famous work). Wonderful, evocative, laugh out loud entertainment. God bless you PG.

    Title: Demons in the Spring
    Author: Joe Meno
    Narrator: Victor Bevine
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 18 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-01-08
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 79 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Demons in the Spring is a collection of 20 short stories by Joe Meno, author of the smash hits The Boy Detective Fails and Hairstyles of the Damned.
In these stories, oddly modern moments occur in the most familiar of public places, from offices to airports to schools to zoos to emergency rooms: a young girl refuses to go anywhere unless she's dressed as a ghost; a bank robbery in Stockholm goes terribly wrong; a teacher becomes enamored with the students in his school's Model United Nations club; a couple is affected by a strange malady - a miniature city which has begun to develop in the young woman's chest.
These inventive stories are hilarious, heartbreaking, and unusual. While many of them have never been previously published, others have been featured in the likes of LIT, Other Voices, Swink, TriQuarterly, and McSweeney's.
    Critic Reviews:
"The power is in the writing. Mr. Meno is a superb craftsman." (Hubert Selby, Jr.)
"Eclectic, funny, constantly surprising - these are the things a short story collection should be allowed to be....a rich, unforgettable stew of a book." (Dave Eggers)
"This short story collection succeeds word to word, sentence to sentence, and cover to cover." (Publishers Weekly)
"Narrator Victor Bevine tackles these stimulating stories head on, displaying his range as he brings an avant-garde cast of characters to life and makes each as relatable and true-to-form as the last. Not one for over-the-top theatrics, Bevine relies upon his bass voice to make listeners laugh, cry, and, most importantly, scream." (AudioFile)
    Members Reviews:
    Weird...very weird!
I bought this based on curiocity alone. Lots of these stories, folks, are just plane weird. I do have to agree with a few of the other reviews...some of the stories end without resolution, but maybe it's one of those deals where it's up to you to make up the ending? I don't know. What I do know is this guy Joe Meno is definitely inventive. A woman who turns into a cloud several times a day? A miniture city grows inside a woman's chest???? A girl who refuses to go anywhere unless she's dressed up like a ghost? they're entertaining to be sure, some of this stuff really is inventive, that's for sure. I just don't know if I would recommend it to anyone who isn't used to these kinds of stories. I must admit that even I'm still shaking my head here.Let's just say, I think this guy was smoking the good stuff, or the bad stuff, depending on your point of view while writing these. If you're really curious check it out. But be warned you're in for something incredibly weird.
    Not my cup of tea
I tried - I really tried to like this book, especially since it came recommended by a good friend. But as many other reviewers are pointing out, you either love this collection or you 'don't get it'. I fall into the latter camp on this one, and while I think Bevine's performance is fine, it seemed to me like the stories were weird for the sake of being weird, and I just couldn't get into this one.
    My New Favorite Writer
I loved this book. I loved all of these stories. So funny. So clever. Even the sad stories left me smiling because they're so well written. The narrator is perfect too, what a bonus. I couldn't recommend it with more enthusiasm.
    Enjoyed it.
    Quirky and unique.

    a good listen
Barrett has a great voice, very charming, and within minutes I thought I was listening to an old buddy spin a tale. The story has a few racy scenes, a few violent episodes, and some hokey sci-fi fantasy stuff - all of which the author melds into one ripper of a story.
The story is entertaining, with lots of prate falls and political comedy. I'm definitely listening to more of Barrett's books.
    Fantastic Fun
I knew nothing about this book other than the Australian reading was wonderful. This was a wild riot. It's very rare that I find a story where I'm essentially unable to anticipate anything correctly. I *highly* recommend this. There are also some pretty interesting notes from the author at the end. Two notes I will offer: it's pretty guy-oriented; and, particularly suited to those who believe that George W. Bush is the Worst. President. Ever.
    Tavelogues are more exciting.
I am usually fond of Aussie writers and narrators.
Then I got this book. One would find more
entertaining writing in a South Seas travelogue
and more information in a Micronesian cookbook.
The author dwelled on the food, the scenery and
occasionally, on sexually explicit scenes that
had all the luridness of a gynecological examination. Occasionally, he referred to the plot, but mostly, not. The main characters
were unanimated and one dimensional. Instead of
providing personal detail sufficient to fill them out, the author seemed to think that providing
details about their surfing techniques, their surf boards and the rock music they listened to would tell the readers all they needed to know
about the protagonists. The narrator, perhaps
hampered by the author's poor writing, was unable to give the reading any life. After awhile, the
Aussie accents, which I find pleasant enough
in general, became a major source of irritation. Especially that of the main protagonist, Bron (Brian), who I fervently wished would be killed off long before I was halfway through, just
because of how he talked. I did not finish the
recording. I hope the author has a day job.
    double up
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
this book i thought was a part 2 of the original but it is the same book slightly different title
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
would but already listened to the other

Bougainville. 1991. A small village on a lush tropical island in the South Pacific. Eighty-six days have passed since Matilda's last day of school as, quietly, war is encroaching from the other end of the island.
When the villagers' safe, predictable lives come to a halt, Bougainville's children are surprised to find the island's only white man, a recluse, re-opening the school. Pop Eye, aka Mr Watts, explains he will introduce the children to Mr Dickens. Matilda and the others think a foreigner is coming to the island and prepare a list of much needed items. They are shocked to discover their acquaintance with Mr Dickens will be through Mr Watts' inspiring reading of Great Expectations.
But on an island at war, the power of fiction has dangerous consequences. Imagination and beliefs are challenged by guns. Mister Pip is an unforgettable tale of survival by story; a dazzling piece of writing that will live long in the mind.
