Title: Brigade: The Further Adventures of Lestrade
    Author: M. J. Trow
    Narrator: M. J. Trow
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 14 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-03-12
    Publisher: Soundings
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 13 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Classic Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
There is a new broom at Scotland Yard: Nimrod Frost. His first little job for Lestrade is to investigate the reported appearance of a lion in Cornwall. This is hardly a task for an Inspector. Yet even as Lestrade questions a witness, a man is reported dead - horrifically mauled.
Having solved that case to his own satisfaction, Lestrade returns to London and to more suspicious deaths - all old men who should have died quietly in their sleep. Is there a connection? Lestrade's superiors, especially Nimrod Frost, discount his speculations, and he finds himself suspended from duty. But that is a mere technicality. He moves from workhouse to royal palace, from back stage at the Lyceum to regimental dinner in his search for enlightenment.

    Enjoyed narration and story!
Delightful writing style, full of surprises and quiet humor. Loved the (often irreverent) cameo appearances of familiar historical figures and characters.
I'm not sure why other listeners have disliked the author's narration, I found it really enjoyable! I've listened to hundreds of audiobooks, and there have certainly been performances that were not up to par; this was not one of them. In fact I found myself thinking that another narrator may have missed a lot of the intended humor in the writing, which only comes through in the characters' dry or deadpan responses as read by the author.
I'm looking forward to listening to the next book in the series!
    Good writing, well read.
This is the second in the series so I'd recommend starting with the first but in any order they are still good. Lestrade's inevitable injuries combine well with moments of tongue in cheek humour. Very enjoyable.
    lestrade goes undercover.
    Any additional comments?
    another enjoyable story by m.j.trow.
Winston churchill makes a small appearance in this one.
well written and performed by m.j.tow I have enjoyed all the books I have listened to so far and am looking forward to the next one.
    recommend this series.

Title: Sherlock Holmes: The Way of All Flesh

    Narrator: David Ian Davies
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 2 hrs and 37 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-09-12
    Publisher: One Voice Recordings
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 16 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Classic Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
Sherlock Holmes is called in to investigate when the body of an Italian diplomat is discovered in the River Thames, his torso horrifically mutilated. Fearing the political repercussions - the diplomat being in London to initiate talks regarding a secret naval treaty between the two nations - the Government entrust Holmes with the delicate task of uncovering the truth behind the brutal murder. Events take a shocking turn, however, when a young solicitor is found slain in the East End, his body similarly mutilated.
    Critic Reviews:
"The most incredible one-person audio you have heard. Has to be heard to be believed. David Ian Davies creates theatre in a book." (Charles Prepolec, one of the most respected Sherlockians)
"David Ian Davies brings his remarkable vocal versatility and his talent for fast-moving drama to Daniel Ward's thriller Sherlock Holmes: The Way of All Flesh. In 1886, the murder and mutilation of an Italian diplomat suggests political skullduggery, but when a young solicitor dies a similarly horrible death, Holmes suspects something much darker. What he and Watson uncover, at great danger to the doctor, is more reminiscent of Dennis Wheatley than of Conan Doyle, but it is all very well handled, by the author and by the reader, and the narrative carries the listener giddily forward. The perpetrator of the outrages proves to be one of the less likely suspects for the Ripper murders of 1888." (Roger Johnson, Editor, The District Messenger, The Sherlock Holmes Society of London)

    Members Reviews:
I envy anyone who has not read this novella.
This is Doyle's longest and most complete story. We get to know several characters besides Holmes and Watson. Doyle describes Dartmoor and the Grimpen Mire with tantalizing details.
If you are not familiar with any of the movies, radio or TV adaptations, you have a rare treat in store. But even if you have been a longtime fan of Sherlock Holmes it is worth another read.
    Absolutely Classic Story
The classic Holmes story. It can be a bit wordy at times but the reasoning behind that was to involve the reader in the general moodiness and atmosphere of the story. This isn't THE Holmes story to read if you are just becoming acquainted with Holmes, but it is very worthwhile reading once you've been introduced to him via some of the short stories or perhaps even A Study in Scarlet and The Sign of Four.
    Old school detective story
If you want to start with Holmes, start here. Many old school stories don't hold up well, this does. For cultural literacy reasons alone it's worth the time (it's a quick read) but it's also a good story. Call it up on the Kindle for a buck and enjoy the bus ride.
    One of the best
It was fun to have a Holmes novel with Watson taking center stage. This is a classic. Doyle makes you picture and actually feel the moor. Do yourself a favor and read this one. (One star is taken off for the incredible amount of typos.)
    Sherlock Holmes rocks
Sherlock Holmes is the best. Read every story over and over again. Love this one because it proves that answers don't have to be fanciful to be right.

Ngaio at her usual-among the best!
This late contribution in the Alleyn series does not disappoint. We find Troy and Roddy's son, Ricky, embroiled in murder and drug running, although he just wants to write his book and admire Julia, the wife of a friend on whom he has a crush. The Inspector and B'rer Fox arrive to solve the mess. Alleyn is one of my favorite tecs-a gentleman in all ways and intelligent and kind. "Sigh!" Do not fear to venture here, dear reader...May your day be a blessed one.

    Great Sherlock
Love this collection. Listen to it often. Just wish there was more of it!!! Hope another collection comes out
    My definitive Radio Holmes
Many moons ago I used to own all of these Carleton Hobbs/Norman Shelley performances as Holmes & Watson on audiotape, so it was lovely finding at least some of them here on Audible. Despite being recorded in the 50s and 60s the sound quality is good enough. Hobbs and Shelley work very well together as the detecting duo, with a fine balance between their voices, one acerbic and quick, the other bluff and hearty. I adored the way they had Dr Watson open every episode with a gurumphing cough, before launching into the story. Two faults mark this set down from a 5-star listen. Firstly, the choice of stories includes several of his darker tales (The Cardboard Box, The Crooked Man etc), so it's not always a light listen. And secondly, there's a rather unnecessary and slightly pointless introduction to each story by the ex-editor of a Holmes publication. Having listened to these once, it would have been nice to be able to edit those bits out!
    Excellent Full Cast Sherlock Production
Another Excellent full cast production from a bygone era which I am thrilled to add to my Sherlock Holmes collection of audiobooks.
This is my first introduction to both actors Carleton Hobbs who plays the man himself to aplomb partnered with Nicholas Utechin.
The whole point of a good actor is to add their own style and wit to the characters they are bringing to life and these two make a good team who bounce off one another as they unravel the genius of the Sherlock Holmes thrillers. There are some real stinkers out there, but you will enjoy these two who are convincing as the detective duo.
No matter how many times I have listened to Conan Doyals master detective; (and I have just about every recorded Sherlock) as long as the characters are played well and the production team have done their job, then I enjoy sitting back and drift off into the Victorian world of horse drawn carriages, gas lights, urchins and good old Victorian thrillers.
This is a nice find and I am pleased to add yet another good selection of Sherlocks to my ever growing collection of full cast audiobooks and as long as the actors are good and the sound production convincing; I will keep on adding to my vast collection. So keep on adding as you find please Audible UK and I will keep purchasing. Worth every penny and Credit.

    Members Reviews:
    What a disappointment!
This must be one of the worst audio books I have listened to and it's by one of my favourite authors! I was eagerly awaiting this novel but it is definitely the worst thing Karin Slaughter has ever written. It was a big mistake to kill off Jeffrey as I feel her plot lines have been floundering ever since. The only character I really cared about in this audiobook was Sara Linton and she has a very small , token part in it. The plot is very weak and predictable and maybe because this is an abridged version does not flow at all well. What a disappointment!
