Shorter stories but well crafted

I really enjoy her stories and her characters. These books are often on sale, only because I think they are shorter than most books. However they are little nuggets of enjoyment and the stories are quite complete, you are not left feeling as though there should be more to complete the thought. More of the supernatural fluff that I love for an afternoon of escapism. Only a few hours long so you still have time to clean out the garage. I find these feel a bit like the "first grave on the right" series if you want a flavor comparison.

Not finished, don't know if i will

Would you try another book from Piper Maitland and/or Justine Eyre?

not if it has as many tracks as this book. Everytime I have to turn the recording off I then have to spend 15-20 minutes trying to find my place. I paid for this, but never again. I will wait till my library gets the the cd's and listen that way.

There was the basis for a good thriller here but the author couldn't pull it off. She had an interesting take on vampirism and a good plot. I found the

I don't know that I would have cut any scenes but I would have made the protagonist a more self actualized human being. Really she is just insipid and whiney.

The desert sands cut like a shattered goblet!

"Ruddy hell!" Where to begin? Over heated, over florid, over wrought -- finally over! Filled with flat characters who wander around in a simmering stew of a one dimensional plot who don't seem to know if they're in an historical mystery, a bad Bond book with vamps, or a really over the top Victorian bodice ripper. The incongruity of the occasionally silly antiquated language sounds even worse because this monstrosity is set in the present day. I would have really hated it if it wasn't so shockingly absurd! (Which is not to say that it is, in any way, funny on purpose.

The details are really good! I am in 6th grade and could not put down the book. I wanted to read it all the time. I like the fantasy genre and I like this book's plot. I feel like I got to know the characters and I liked most of them. I've also read Percy Jackson books, love them, and Pittacus Lore, love those books, too. I thought it would help to know that if you like those authors also. I am going to order the next book in this series and want to read the entire series. I told my mom that she would love the book and she is going to start it now that I just finished. I recommend reading this book.

good book for teens

This is a great book that leads you to the next two in the series. Suspensful, but not too much so for early teens. If you're looking for a good book for your Catholic teen, this is it.

A World Away

A World Away: The Quest of Dan Clay: Book OneChoosing Christmas gifts for my 13 year old grandson and 16 year old Godson has become more challenging. Both young men enjoy fantasy video games as well as reading, but I had no idea how to go about finding the most entertaining and constructive fiction for this age group. When I first heard Mr. Smith discuss his book on Catholic radio, I had a feeling it would fill the bill for both boys. I bought 3 copies as I too wanted to read the book. I was extremely impressed with the elements of suspense which caused me to read much later into the night than usual. It sparked my imagination by using vivid characters and an unusual story line. Not only did I greatly enjoy the book, but both teenagers, who received the book from me for Christmas, enjoyed it so much that they said they are now anxiously awaiting the publication of Mr. Smith's next book. It is my hope that Book Two is available before Christmas 2008. It would save me a lot of shopping time!!

In his search for his long lost elder brother, Dan Clay, with his three friends, enter a parallel universe of harrowing creatures and unexpected friends. T.J. Smith has written a superb page turner.

Excellent writing!

This is an excellent work for readers who want good, clean, interesting, exciting mystery/sci-fi. The writing is very colorful and paced quickly.

Couldn't put this down

Would you listen to The Last Werewolf again? Why?

I am not in the habit of listening to any book twice but might make an exception to this one. Full of surprises, not my normal type of book but so happy I took the chance on this one

Well narrated and written I almost believed he actually existed

Which scene did you most enjoy?

This book although not a comedy as per say made me laugh out loud on several occasions throughout the entire book. Great stuff. Also a bit naughty!!!

Any additional comments?

The narrator was excellent. I'm a crime and thriller reader and not to keen on fantasy books that are to OTT. However I took a chance with this book and I am so pleased I did one of my favourite listens. There are no negatives and I have been recommending it to all my friends. Just buy it and enjoy. !!!!!!

Defiantly. Loved it the narrator's voice gave me chills. I have read this book and listened to it from the library but enjoyed it so much, I wanted to own it and liststen to it again and again.

No. But I will be.

Absolutely Exceptional

Engaging, gripping and read with extreme eloquence and refinement, this was an utterly compelling tale that left me as hungry as a wolf for more.

How can you ruin a book this great?

I have read this wonderful book several times and decided to buy the audio book for my partially sighted father, knowing that he would love it. However he thought it was awful. I was so shocked that I had to listen for myself. The reading is so monochromatic that he utterly fails to paint the brilliance of the characters and yet it's so infuriatingly dull that I can't even fall asleep I am so irritated by it. Please do not waste your time on the audio version and just read the book or get someone else to read it for you!

I liked this! I think the story flowed well and there was something going on constantly. Marnye Young has an "easy on the ears" voice which I appreciate. Nicely done.

like stepping into a 3rd book of a series

This was a struggle because we are constantly playing catch up and being bombarded with back story. Every new character seemed to have a history and back story. New characters were throughout the book, so it was constant catch up. The story still would have been good or OK but the ending was unsatisfying.
