Love It!

I loved "The Limits of Pleasure" so it was with great delight that I found this collection of jewel-like stories about being Jewish & Queer. But more importantly about life. All great writers write about what they know and the world they inhabit, but is the literary genius whose stories transcend the boundaries of culture color and class. Love it!

The stories that comprise Daniel Jaffeâs collection âJewish Gentleâ are varied in both subject and execution, but theyâre never rote or predictable. He usually provides a solid, dependable twist or gives you a particularly noteworthy voice to hang on to. I was particularly impressed by the short vignettes he sometimes inserted between longer stories. Itâs iceberg writing, most of the meaning below the surface. A collection well worth your time.

Amature- Dont bother

What disappointed you about Ghost of a Chance?

The characters are superficial and not especially likable. This is a boring and predictable "romance" story.

What could Jade Falconer have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Produced a story with some depth and suspense, it is a ghost story..right?. I couldn't relate to these guys at all and slang expressions like "that would be so rad" drive me crazy.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of John Solo?

This is suppose to be set in Scotland... Scottish accents...none.

One moment Jelise Jackson is facing off with the feds and the next second a handsome stranger is helping her to escape. Love, lust and loyalty combined with Kegin protocol make for the best kind of angst in In Her Ladyship's Service. Tough gal Jelise is more than up to the challenge, and Jace is an exciting prospect. I would have liked for this story to be a bit longer because more Keen rites and ceremonies are observed; definitely a story highlight. The length didn't make it less satisfying due to the chemistry between Jelise and Jace. I'm the first to admit that the threat to Jace's life for becoming involved with Jelise added spice to things. As with the other characters revolving throughout the series, I hope this dynamic pair makes an appearance again, no matter how brief. This chapter was a very pleasant interlude.

Ok story and narration

Michael Schiefelbein likes to write about gay religious people. This can be ok...but all his story start off with a sort of prejudice because of this. The story is ok... The drama and smexing are pretty great, but there is just something about priest smexing each other that take away from the story. It kinda of reminded me of his Vampire Vow series without the vampires. Same logic and drama if you have read that series.

Intriguing love story

If you could sum up The Immortals in three words, what would they be?

Entertaining, intriguing, observational

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jason - because I felt at the heart of his dilemma as he slowly came to realize that things were changing in his relationship.

Which scene was your favorite?

The most memorable was the moment at which Peter discovers the truth about Leonard and Jason - not quite what I expected, but very effective.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It could work either way.... due to its length it's an easy listen in one go. But as it happens, I had to listen to it in two - and it worked fine too.

Any additional comments?

The more I listened, the more the narration grew on me... very well read.

Really good book. Loved the differences in the brothers. It was rocky at first but the three really complement each other.

Good quick read!

I enjoyed this book about 2 brothers who are miners on an asteroid who end up sharing the same wife because of company policy. It was interesting and sexy, with a happy ending.

So So

I am a big fan of Zena Wynn, so her name and the pre-view is the reason I purchased this one. The premise was out there, and I was sceptical, but I gave it a try. It was well-written, and the sex was hot, but it falls into the category of not bad, but not great either. I'm not a big fan of sharing, so that may have been my hang up keeping me from getting into this one.

I loved this story

Im surprised their arent more reviews, because it was HOTT! I loved this story. It was different but told in a way that you understood each character's position. The love scenes were pretty intense.

Sensual short Story

Very descriptive tells of a woman torn by her two husbands who happen to be brothers. The sexual content is very imaginative but the story line itself is very nicely written.

Historical Yet Personal, Simple Yet Effective

Judging by the title, when I first bought this I assumed it would be about a genderqueer or two spirit individual. While the main character Mike definitely doesn't fit into gender stereotypes and is definitely a masculine, butch woman (making the title a great fit, all in all), this story isn't about being genderqueer; instead it's a beautiful story of the complications of life and love when you don't really fit in anywhere, and I wasn't disappointed at all when I found out my initial assumptions from the title had been false.

What I love about this story is how realistic it is. This isn't Mike's quest to gain the love of one woman. This story follows a significant portion of Mike's life, and, like most of us, Mike has several romantic interests over the years. What also makes the story realistic is the timeline. Because it stretches so many years, you get to watch Mike grow and learn, and seeing all the different stages of her life - her moves, her jobs, her lovers, her obstacles - in just enough detail gives the reader a good sense of character, and gives the story a good sense of completion, even though when the book finishes it may not be the typical "happy ever after" ending.

The book doesn't have the most detail in the world, but it doesn't need to. Gangi doesn't waste words on unnecessary descriptions, but instead uses her voice to carry the story from plot to plot quickly but realistically, getting to the point without making the story feel rushed. Something is always happening in this book, and there's no point where you'll turn the page with a sigh waiting for the filler to end.

The setting is probably what makes this story the most interesting. It's set a few decades ago, and explores what life was like as a lesbian back then. Mike's world is noticeably different than our own in terms of acceptance in society, family, and the work place, and while her world can be observed in a scholarly manner (This book definitely taught me some history), you also feel sympathetic to Mike and the problems she faces concerning her sexuality and what it means to those around her.

Sometimes it takes me a while to get through a book, but in a couple of days I was finished with this. That's not a testament to the length of this book, but its ability to keep me hooked. With something always happening, I was always wondering what was just around the corner, and it made me pick it right back up after I tried putting it down saying "one more page" or "one more chapter."

Wow! The Butch books revived!

I read Butch and Butch II by Jay Rayn a decade ago, two books that swept the gay and lesbian bookstores both here and abroad. I even got the poster, a classic item now used as the cover for this revised and wonderful story.

Wooden Narration

Would you try another book from Jade Falconer and/or Vincent Kelly?

I probably would not try another book narrated by Vincent Kelly.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jade Falconer? Why or why not?

Probably, the story was lost in the robotic, wooden narration. It seems as if the narrator was uncomfortable with the text. Another narration style may be better.

What didnt you like about Vincent Kellys performance?

There was no tone, volume, or speed modulation in Mr. Kelly's performance. He read most of the book as if it was just a series of boring, unrelated, run-on sentences. He could have been reading a how-to manual instead of a romance and the listener wouldn't know the difference. Unfortunately, the story was lost in his wooden performance.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I can't imagine this book being made into a movie, but, yes, I supposed I would.

Wanted more

I thought I was getting more when I downloaded this but still a enjoyed listen. Thought it would play out more to the master/servant story line

Good Story

This book is rather unique in that it is a series of "interviews" with the various characters involved in the mystery. At first I found this a little off putting, but gradually I came to like the technique. I did at times have to look back to determine which character is which because there are quite a few of them. The story itself is clever and definitely one of the authors better works, it really keeps you guessing just what happened until the very end.

Hot, steamy and diverting if a bit uneven

Saw this recommended over at Dear Author and it sounded to delish to pass up. Each story gets its own review and then overall impressions!

"I Need You for Christmas" by Leah Braemel

I enjoyed this story quite a bit. I wanted to smack a couple folk for their behavior (Ryan kind of included 'cause while Megan was making a big change in her life, so we he and his involved a heck of a lot of other people having to adjust whereas hers was really just her), but by in large I thought this was a cute story. It was steamy and I appreciated that while Ryan found Megan super-sexy, she wasn't a model type woman playing cop--Braemel clearly described Megan in such a way that she looked the part of a Mountie.

There isn't actually much I can say--this was a solid story, the main characters felt pretty well rounded (though I couldn't keep the secondary characters quite as straight in my head) and thankfully Braemel avoided a tacked on conflict. The two had a big enough conflict to resolve that anything additional would be extraneous.

"Breath on Embers" by Annie Calhoun

I was at odds with this story. On the one hand the sex was hot, the characters were conflicted and I was engaged with the struggle that Thea felt. What I had issue with was that I couldn't quite understand why Ronan would keep trying. Quite frankly whether its Thea or its Ronan, neither paints a great picture of her. Thea spends most of the story trying to convince herself that she just wants to sleep with Ronan--well technically she just wants to use Ronan however she feels like whether it be to have sex, go down on him or a makeout session.

Ronan meanwhile spends the story trying to convince her, himself and his best friend Tim that there is so much more to her and that he will bring it out whether she wants it or not. Has she been grieving for a long time? Yes. Should she try to move on and get past the guilt she feels over her husband's death (because it sounded like survivor's guilt to me more often then not)? Yes. Is she coping in a totally unhealthy/unsafe manner? Yes. But I didn't see progress. For every step forward they take, almost immediately one of them says or thinks that she's shutting down.

It got really annoying. What redeeming value did Thea have exactly? Its not like they hung out, or did couple things. Their entire 'relationship' was predicated on the physical. The reversal at the end needed more space to breathe to make me believe that they would work as a couple.

"Wish List" by K.A. Mitchell

This is a m/m romance. As far as stakes go this had bigger stakes then "I Need You For Christmas", but had a much more believable arc then "Breath on Embers".
