Things that make you go "huh?"

The title is misleading. The Grigori is only in chapter 1 and chapter 10. The story is about 5 peoples lives that seem to be separate, but end up intertwined.

This is not a story you can listen to while doing other intellectual tasks, it will take all your concentration to understand the plot twist. A backstory that should have been an aside or stated memory is brought about at the beginning of the 2nd chapter, creating confusion, and there are other secondary characters we learn a lot about for no apparent reason. Numerous "huh?"s and the need to back up a bit on occasion, but it all comes together nicely in the end.

I went back and listen to the story again, immediately after the first listen, the "huh?" parts were no longer confusing, but it could have been written better.

Not a great story, not a terrible story, but an interesting story.

P.S. The narrator has a meltdown approx. 27m into chapter 6 that was not edited out - it's rather hilarious. Otherwise the narrator did a good job. I would listen to him again.

I am always looking for a great series to dive into and I'm not disappointed with ...

I am always looking for a great series to dive into and I'm not disappointed with my find of this author. The writing is captivating and keeps you turning the page, I love the interest/conflict between the two MC and relish every new installment to their story. I have added this author to my favorite's and plan to enjoy this series through its second reading and third .... There is nothing better then buying into an author's series and knowing within the first book you are going to re-read the entire collection again and again. That is when you know it is worth the money you spent on it.

Deadly Silence (Deadly Mystery 5) by Victor J. Banis

I had long ago decided that I prefer Tom on Stanley, and with this last book Victor J. Banis gave me a reason more.

Tom completely changed his life to love and live with Stanley, he abandoned his career as detective, he openly recognized Stanley as his partner, in business and love, and he has never once questioned this love. Yes, he has still a right eye for a beautiful woman, but he is not tempted to follow that eye. And Stanley? Already in the previous book he questioned their love, and if I remember well he was the one to run away instead of fighting for it. Now that he has obtained almost everything from Tom, he wanted more, he wants to change Tom, to make him more gay, or maybe to make their life more gay.

But as his friend Chris tries to explain to Stanley, it was not that he was so happy before meeting Tom; the life Stanley regrets, the one night stands, the possibility to flirts with the eye candy passing in the street, it was a unfulfilling life, something that pushed Stanley to change his work in the first book of this series. And it was not like Tom fallen in love at first sight with Stanley or that Stanley didn't pursue Tom; I found Stanley's attitude a bit like what I would expected from a spoiled brat, he desperately wants something, he couldn't live without it, and then, when he obtains the coveted toy, he is no more interested, or what it's still behind the window is better of what he has in his hands.

True, Stanley is able to understand his mistake, and basically he betrays Tom only with his mind and intention, but still, from the man that made Tom's feel guilty for the interest he had for a woman, Stanley's attitude is a bit too much carelessness.

The mystery here is a bit less involving on an emotional level than before, maybe since for the first time, there was no direct involvement of Stanley and Tom (no one of them really new the victim, the victim is not a sympathetic character...); this is probably their first real case, and so, maybe for this reason, since they are not part of the mystery, the case itself was almost on a second line, it was more important to discover what Stanley was thinking and doing.

It's alright

Ms. Glenn is alright for what she writes. Unfortunately, there is no substance to this. It is fluff for what could be solid writing. The characters lack depth. Now if one feels there is no reason for real depth because it is in the GLBT genre then that is a shame. The first review written is slightly misleading as Ms. Munro writes for the publisher as well, therefore can she truly be objective?

Keep writing Ms. Glenn but try expanding your stories and vocabulary.

Not erotica, not good, confusing

This story is not erotica. It had 2 vague, semi-explicit, very brief sex scenes & only in the early part of the story. Instead, the story spent way too much time on a talking-cat. Then it skipped to another land, presumably wonderland, and I was lost until several minutes later. And by then, I didnt care. So I struggled to even follow the story. More than once, I wondered if this story was a combination of tales. This take on Alice on Wonderland failed utterly. And, to make things worse, the narrators over-pronunciation of Ts was excruciating, otherwise he was okay. I listened to the entire story in hopes that it would improve and to have my review be of the whole story. And yep, it was badconsistently.

Honest and Heartfelt Struggles of a Man

Shades of Gay by Mr. Clarke is engaging. By not being accustomed to his writing style, the first flashback was unexpected. But as the chapters progressed, flashbacks added more richness and depth to the story. As each chapter builds on the groundwork of prior passages the storytelling advances at a comfortable pace. This allowed me to read through the novel instead of just skimming for content in approximately 2.5 hours. Although the story depicts interactions between same sex attractions, it has universal implications. Love transcends social, ethnic and gender distinctions. I look forward to other publications from this writer.

Might be good but...

I bought the audiobook and the reader drones on with all the enthusiasm of a dead fish. His monotone voice literally put me to sleep and he reads so fast, the names become confusing in the story- especially since the lack of tonal inflection makes it hard to tell when the story is moving from a flashback to present day. If the story sounds interesting, read it, but don't spring for the audio version, not even for the reduced price.

David Clarke's SHADES OF GAY Showcases the Complications of Love and Life

We all know what it's like to face the demons of our life. Imagine trying to do it while staying true to those that you love. That is the plight of Daniel and his lover Marc. During their relationship Daniel is battling addiction as well as the consequences of his actions, and they have the power to affect not just him but all that he loves.

This story is set with the backdrop of reckless and irresponsible sex, bringing in the issue of HIV/AIDS and how such a disease can be a wake-up call for the importance of self love, respect and precautionary actions. Will Daniel and Marc survive the war that is waging within and around them? Will Daniel come to the realization that he is responsible for his own actions and change his course before it's too late? These are all issues that the reader will encounter in the novel SHADES OF GAY.

I should also say that for those who are not accustomed to reading same-gender-loving literature that the book is about more than the characters being gay. It really is a story of love, life and the importance of standing on principle. I would also say it is about the importance of loving yourself first and foremost, not allowing others to lead you down a path that might be a dead end.

A sweet friends-to-lovers Valentine's themed story

I listened to this in the audio version. Chip Wood, the narrator, did a brilliant job bringing the story to life. At just under 2 hours, it was relatively short in audio book terms (at least compared to some I've read) so would be a good intro book for someone who isn't sure if audiobook format is for them.

This is a friends-to-lovers Valentine's themed story and follows Logan and Chase as they finally come together after years of being in love with one another.

The story was sweet, over-the-top emotions - but sometimes you just need lots of warm and fuzzy declarations of love!

I enjoyed this book most of all of the series. It's fun to see Joe back home in America that, after being away so long, is as foreign as his other postings. He's soon drawn into more dark dealings and trouble. It's fascinating to read about a non-fighting military man, who has his own struggles that he fights in his own way - with paperwork and wits. Of course he's no paragon, is Joe. He gets himself into plenty of trouble by thinking with the wrong body part at times.The story may well break your heart at the end, but you'll love Joe for what he's ready to do to protect those he loves.
