Silke and Kirin getting married was a beautiful conclusion to follow from the beginning of their meeting and love story from Barrett's earlier novel. It is a very beautiful LGBT love story.
Love the Series; Listen for the Story, Not the Narrator
Balefire was an awesome read! This story is also good. Barrett is an author with a good feeling for the balance between time, detail, narrative, and painting a picture for the audience.
The narrator is a good storyteller. I have a lot of respect for good, vocal storytellers, but the narrator's voice is not appropriate for the age of the main characters. Perhaps I'm an ageist. Sad if I am, but the voice is like 50-60, while the main characters are mid-20/30-somethings. Just not sexy for the range.
    Could have been better
I thought this story could have been so much better. I think this was the second audiobook in a mini series so there may have been some things I missed from book one.
I gave the story 3 stars because i felt that it was thin and mostly uneventful. I was hoping for more where it seemed to be just a wrap up. I didn't get a good background feel for the characters where I would have liked to. I would possibly go back and listen to the first book but this one was disappointing as a stand alone.
I gave "Flights of Fancy: Forever Windsor" written by Barrett an overall 4 stars because I felt that Sara Morsey saved the story. She's a wonderful voice actor with natural talent.

Through his longings and self-discovery, Matt knows he cannot let others triumph over being the man he knows to be. As he says, "Being a surfer meant you got out, faced your own fears, and did it." Harry George Alexander Bircham: Not necessarily an infamous name in the annals of gay fictional characters...yet. But listeners of Erastes' newest historical novel should prepare themselves for many pages of suspenseful intrigue as the miscreant Bircham, a cultured man of Wildean excesses and humours, will do anything it takes to bend Fate to his will. And that sinister will is to keep the affections and attentions of another English young man. If accidents, if murder, are necessary, then Bircham is just the villain. Or anti-hero, as he is quite the early twentieth-century charmer.

Downton Abby with Wicked Word Play of Oscar Wild
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a big thumbs up for me. This is not your typical boy meets boy M/M novel whose plot lines and stereotype characters plod along to known conclusions. The plot is disturbingly festinating and draws you along to; well you will just have to invest the time and learn for yourself.
What was one of the most memorable moments of I Knew Him?
The question of will he or won't he that is left in your mind at the very end. You will have to listen to the book to know what I mean by this.
What about Ryan Kennard Burkes performance did you like?
Ryan Kennard Burke did an excellent job voicing the various classes of English accents. He successfully navigates from the most posh Oh with an ascending note superiority to the more common, Thank-e-gov-ner of the local pub barman. I was very presently impressed with his vocal range and command of the various accents and snippets of French that are dropped in by the upper class to impress others. I do find interesting that not only does Mr. Burke have acting skills but has been on the production side of the audio book business.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, in deed. One is caught up in the twists turns and machinations of the richly textured plot. If I were to give this book a different title it would be, "Dead Man among the Crumpets" LOL
    Any additional comments?
This M/M novel is set in the post WW I ere of a Downton Abby like manor house ominously named Hellsingrs. There are landed gentry, posh manners, class differences, a local village, vicar, pub and the deliciously wicked word play of Oscar Wild sociopath. The classical and literary references in the characters conversations form a delightful repartee backdrop against which the sexual innuendos play out on the stage of the repressed social double standard attitudes of the day.
The action begins when Charles Holland after years away at boarding school and college, takes his college chum, and special friend Harry Bircham, home to meet the family; the visit triggers a complex nest of secrets that begin to unpack one by one setting the action for jealousy, intrigue, mystery, mayhem, death, maiming, murder all culminating in arrest and a scandalous public trial. The viewpoint of the book is told in the first person voice of Harry Bircham whose one constant character feature is his absolute adoration of Charles. For his benefit, and to relive the boredom Harry finds the English tight ass class structure he must navigate in and appear part of, drives every action of the Bohemian, wickedly intelligent character. Harry will drive you wild with his studied cold indifference and manipulative skills. One will love Harry or be repulsed by him, but one cannot be indifferent.

Mutability blooms in the Florida Keys after the Red War and the genie boxes. King Pelicans with the brains of scientists and a single human hand in place of one webbed foot rule the ruins of half-drowned Miami. Slavers roam the deep waters offshore, taking captives to feed the voracious Kudzu Army and the human aqueduct bearing fresh water from Lake Okeechobee. On the last stretch of the Overseas Highway still standing, an albino seeress slowly becomes her name: White Flamingo. ''You,'' she says. ''You will reach for the sun while staying rooted to the ground. But I fear your shadow will be much too long.''
Transformed by his father's genie box in the late days of the Red War, Leaf has lived for decades or centuries alone in a collapsing Victorian house on a desolate sandy key, misunderstanding time, feeding on sunlight and dew. When at last he meets a boy like - but so unlike! - himself, Leaf understands he has met destiny and sets out on a long, strange journey. A post-apocalyptic, psychoactive, polymorphous-perverse pastorale, Green Thumb will startle you with its utter strangeness and break your heart with its fragile beauty.

Pure, wild and imaginative tale of love and life
Where does Green Thumb: A Novella rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

    Members Reviews:
The narrator was AWFUL! I didn't finish it
I picked this up as a deal and thought it sounded fun. I will never know. The narration was so bad I literally could not keep listening. This is the first time this has happened to me. I've had other narrators that I hated, but I still plowed through the book. This..I have no words...
Listen to the sample. If you can handle it, then give the book a try. It sounds cute.
Also, I gave the story 2 starts because Audible wouldn't let me review without rating all three categories. I felt bad giving something I hadn't read 1 star. So, I went with 2. This rating is completely arbitrary.
Beach Reading: Book 1 (Serial Killer Mystery)
Where does Beach Reading rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I really enjoy the investigations of murder mysteries. This story surprised me because it was so interesting. It does have some paranormal aspects.
What did you like best about this story?
Naturally the progression of the investigation and the main character's growing confidence.
What does Roy Wells bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I did not enjoy the narrator as much as I have in other books but it was a passable narration.
If you could take any character from Beach Reading out to dinner, who would it be and why?
    The main character's aunt.
    Egregious, insulting narration
I cannot give rating for the story because the narration was so awful that I couldn't finish the book, and could not really follow what I had heard because I was so distracted wondering how this this narration was commissioned and then published. So I gave the story three stars.
I was actually about half an hour or so into the book (I only lasted one hour) when I realized that the MC was supposed to be young. The narrator sounds like a man in his 90s so I had thought it was an elderly recalling his youth.
Not only his voice inappropriate for the character, the man can't read fluently, stopping mid-sentence while he reads the next bit. I feel I have put more effort and time into this review than went into the editorial and production work, and the flows are so obvious, I will stop.

    The Stuff of "Queen Dreams"
An affectionately loving, straight best friend. Fall in love with a cuddly little bunny with a rock hard body and a phallus to match in 1 day. A ready-made gay family who takes you into their warm embrace the same day. An easily identifiable villain who get his in the end. Settled happy domesticity at the end -- a week or so after day 1.... It was a bit too contrived and "fraught" for my tastes, but a young gay boy might get the warm fuzzies over this blessedly short story.
