    Title: Dynasty 15: The Reckoning
    Author: Cynthia Harrod-Eagles
    Narrator: Terry Wale
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 20 hrs and 11 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-03-12

    Publisher's Summary:
The year is 1816. Napoleon has at last been defeated, but victory brings no peace to the English. The cost of war strikes deep into the country - there is a raging inflation, discharged soldiers join the ranks of the unemployed, wages tumble and the bread price soars - and hungry men are easily stirred to protest.
Amid this turbulence, Heloise and James stand guard over Morland Place - for its spirit as much as its fortunes - when a tragic accident strikes at the very heart of the family, taking one person on whom they all depend. On top of this, a devastating scandal brings the Morland name into the glare of public notoriety, so that Sophie and Rosamund are forced to learn the difference between real love and its enticing but dangerous illusion.

    GET HOOKED
The Morland Dynasty series is excellent. I recommend starting with the 1st book and get "hooked" on the history, characters and the time period. The stories are mostly female based, neverless, the writer's talent is relating a view of each time in English history. Of course the famiy increases with children, animals, and friends living joys, sorrows and daily events. There are 30 plus stories in the series so its for the "long haul" reader - oh, 1 of these books always goes with me on a vacation or a car trip. The Morlands are a family who have become my friends.
Another book in a great series
Have been reading the entire Morland family chronicles and thoroughly enjoy all the books. Believe this is #16 out of 35. There are wonderful characters (some not nice at all) and I feel I'm learning a lot about the history of England. The poor classes were treated so unfairly that I want to read about positive changes in the next boo.
Morland Dynasty series entry gets 5 stars
Cynthia Harrod-Eagles is simply amazing. I can't begin to see how she has turned out such consistently excellent books in so many voices and set in so many eras. The Reckoning continues the Morland Dynasty story with all of the detail, depth and quality of the earlier books in the series. This series is a fascinating contribution to understanding British and human history.
    Loved it
I am enjoying this series very much. I have already purchased the next two books so I won't have to wait to start the next one.

    Fantastic
    Really enjoyed this audio book!
I had it for several years sitting in my library (of over 2500!) and I thought I didn't , well, would not enjoy the narrator. But as with many stories once you start and can get to know your first character or two it's your friend!
I was so sorry to hear it end! Now I MUST have another Norah Lofts novel!
    Brilliant Audio Book!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I really enjoyed this story which is told in turn by different characters which I loved. I have read the paperback years ago but this reading with the excellent narration by a male and a female really brought it to life. I can't recommed highly enough if you like historical novels.
What did you like best about this story?
    The narration.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Madame D'Auby lost her mind. "Cracked" as the book says.
    Any additional comments?
    Loved it!

    Title: The Company You Keep
    Author: Neil Gordon
Narrator: Donald Corren, Hillary Huber, Kirby Heyborne, Ann Marie Lee, Arthur Morey, Cris Dukehart, Jeannie Stith
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 15 hrs and 51 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-17-12
    Publisher: Dreamscape Media, LLC
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 43 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Historical
    Publisher's Summary:
Set against the rise and fall of the radical antiwar group the Weather Underground, The Company You Keep is a sweeping American saga about sacrifice, the ecstatic righteousness of youth, and the tension between political ideals and family loyalties.
When Jason Sinai, one of the last Vietnam-era fugitives still wanted on murder charges for a robbery gone wrong in 1974, encounters a young newspaper reporter in search of a story, he must abandon years of safe underground life for the dangerous life of the road - traveling across America and deep into his past. It is a vivid recreation of lives lived underground - of battle-scarred veterans, ideologues, profiteers, criminals, and bystanders.
    Critic Reviews:
"Rousing, cerebral.... Gordon's plot is a doozy - a trio of doozies, in fact - yet utterly credible. He projects wrenching political and personal drama onto a slightly futuristic version of where we stand now as a people. In so doing he shows how we got here.... What makes this novel compelling is not only the ideological spectrum it covers but its emotional chiaroscuro.... It bids well to enter the company of our best fiction about the Vietnam era." (The New York Times Book Review)
"Gordon skillfully interweaves the voices of his fictional narrators with many of the most important totems of the era: Vietnam, the shooting of Kent State students by Ohio National Guard members, and the bombing of a townhouse in Greenwich Village.... His characters are so skilfully drwan that they remain likable and interesting, and their missives to Isabel are sincerely felt and compelling reads until the very last page." (The Boston Globe)
"[A] hybrid of political novel, love story, cat-and-mouse thriller, and French bedroom farce...entertaining.... The Company You Keep becomes an addictive page-turner of a book." (Seattle Times)

    Audiobook of the Year
Thanks, Audible for resurrecting this 2003 novel before the film version next autumn. Two story devices work well in this listen that usually fail: multiple narrators and modified epistolary novel format; the narrative is built by a very long email chain (in detail that could not possible exist in that format, but it???s so engagingly written that you can suspend your disbelief).
It???s a message to the millennial generation and a reminder to all of American 20th century social and political history; It also wants to echo current events. It???s a mystery, love stories, and both a novel of ideas and of individuals and a nation coming of age. It begins very left leaning but becomes more balanced. Mostly it???s about how we construct history, both personal and political. Failed idealism drives the story, but light and hope are never totally absent figuratively or literally.
Although the third quarter of the book becomes a bit wordy and repetitive (we get it by then!), it still seems to me the best audiobook of the year to date. I hope that Redford accomplishes with this material what he almost accomplished with Lions for Lambs. The personal is political, and vice versa.
    Excellent
This audio version was wonderfully done. Using the multiple narrators echoed the book's written structure.

    Publisher's Summary:
Sardonic, searing, seductive, and surreal, the award-winningMeditations in Greenis regarded by many as the best novel of the Vietnam War. It is a kaleidoscopic collage that whirls about an indelible array of images and characters: perverted Winkly, who opted for the army to stay off of welfare; eccentric Payne, whos obsessed with the film hes making of the war; and bucolic Claypool, whos irrevocably doomed to a fate worse than death, just to name a few.
Floating at the center of this psychedelic spin is Specialist 4 James Griffin. In country, Griffin studies the jungle of carpet-bomb photos as he fights desperately to keep his grip on reality. Battling addiction stateside after his tour, he studies the green of household plants as he struggles mightily to regain his sanity. With mesmerizing action and Joycean interior monologues, Stephen Wright has created a book that is as much an homage to the darkness of war as it is a testament to the transcendence of art.
Stephen Wright is a New Yorkbased novelist known for his use of surrealistic imagery and dark comedy. He has taught writing courses at various universities, including Princeton, Brown, and the New School.

This book requires a lot of Meditation!
"Meditations in Green", written by Stephen Wright, is a very dark story that seems to have no coherence. I found it difficult to understand at times because of the way that it was written. There was a lot of drug induced hallucinations in the story, and the story itself was very disorienting. It was a mixture of what was happening while he, the soldier James Griffin, was in Vietnam and what his life was like currently after Vietnam.
It was absurd, but sometimes good. I will have to re-listen to it some time to see if I can understand it better! A very contemporary novel.
    powerful vietnam novel
should have read this powerful, upsetting, excellent book decades ago. glad it became an audiobook. thanks
    Worst book I ever bought.....
Written by someone whose elevator doesn't quite go all the way to the top.........not a story at all but aimless meandering philosophical trash.
    I want my $10 back.

Length: 6 hrs and 46 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-22-12
    Publisher: Donna Morrissey
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 8 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Historical
    Publisher's Summary:
Sylvanus Now is the story of a man, Sylvanus Now, who has modest ambitions - he wants to fish in the old way, like his father before him, and he wants to marry Adelaide, the beautiful girl he spied once at a dance in Ragged Rock. Newfoundland's fishery, however, is on the verge of catastrophic change, and Adelaide proves more of an enigma than the rugged, black-browed Sylvanus imagines.
Set in the early 1950s, against the backdrop of the collapse of the salt-fish industry, Sylvanus Now combines a passionate critique of government short-sightedness with a tender love story about two people who probably shouldn't have married but did. Morrissey's lushly recorded narrative, steeped in outport dialect ("Cripes, why don't you ask Am for a spot on his liner? You're getting like father, bandied at the knees from straddling a boat"), alternates between Sylvanus' and Adelaide's points of view.
While Sylvanus clings to his traditional ways with a reckless tenacity, Addie is a fireball of conflicting emotions, forever spewing invective or else brooding in silence. Forced to drop out of school by her perennially pregnant mother, Adelaide rails against fishing ("she prayed that each fish caught would be the last in the sea") and babies ("their grubby little hands forever snatching, picking and scratching"). Yet, before long, she finds herself married to her fisherman suitor and expecting their first child - a recipe for disaster if ever there was one.
