    Helpful for non-BP
This book provides practical and helpful information for the those who have or had a loved one with BP. It helped elucidate some of the counterintuitive issues, such as commenting on a BP's progress can actually lead to more irrational abandonment fears. Compared against so many other audiobooks on the subject, I found myself taking more notes and waking away with actionable knowledge.
    Highly recommendable
Would you consider the audio edition of Personality Disorders to be better than the print version?
An informative book that explains, without patronizing, the traits of this particular condition. This text was instrumental in gaining my understanding of it. Would recommend for anyone who is suffering from, or knows someone who is suffering from a personality disorder.
We have to cope with people and their personality
If you could sum up Personality Disorders in three words, what would they be?
Good book that explains the different personality types and the diseases underneath each personality. I love reading/listening books like this because it makes you understand more about those who are suffering from the disease. Knowing more about what's happening to them helps me relate to them more and appropriately react and reach out to them.
    Learned a lot
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a very informative book about Personality Disorders and the different facets as they develop as well as how families influence and contribute to various personality disorders . The author does a very thorough job of describing different personality disorders and the roots and causes of them. I very much enjoyed listening the book and highly recommend it.
    Very interesting!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I was initially quite curious about the title of this book, which is why I bought it. From the content of the book, I realize that the book provides great insights into the personality disorders, which allow understanding into the minds of sociopaths. Very interesting!

    I've Never Slept Better
Would you consider the audio edition of Sleep to be better than the print version?
Nick Littlehales speaks very slowly, so as long as you speed up the playback to about 1.30 it's perfect. Otherwise I think it would be too slow, and you might fall asleep.
What did you like best about this story?
That it helped me sleep better immediately! I started doing some of the things Nick suggested and they work like a charm, plus they just make sense. Obvious as they are most everyone I know doesn't utilize these ideas.
What about Nick Littlehaless performance did you like?
I liked that he spoke clearly and he obviously knew what he was talking about. His anecdotes were interesting as well. Like I said though, he speaks too slowly for me, so I sped it up to 1.3 and it was fine.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Nope, I liked listening to it in the morning after I woke up. It helped me get over the stress of a bad night's sleep, and plan and implement better nights going forward.
    Any additional comments?
There is a lot of sleep books coming out these days, I think this is an excellent primer and probably one of the best you could by. It's not too long, and it gets to the point quickly with fast results if you follow the advice.
Some good tips, but descends into nonsense
There are some tips on here that will make a difference instantly. My sleep has hugely improved with the basic and common sense approach.
However, once you get past that, the book just feels like filler and a sales ad for Nick's special bed. The emphasis on sport is also a little grating and sometimes the name dropping is pointless.
Most importantly though, the narrator is dreadful. Is intonation makes no sense with sentences having random pauses halfway through them for no reason.
Content good, narrator will put you to sleep
Content was insightful but narrator (who is also the author) completely monotone. should have hired a professional narrator. Stopped listening to after an hour
It gives "sleep" a whole new meaning!
It really opened up my mind concerning the subject of sleeping and the right way to take advantage of my recovery and rest hours.I think it is a really important matter that everyone should learn about and adjust it into their lives.
    Excellent info!
Excellent information. Good natration. Was able to listen straight through. Will implement some suggestions immediately.

  • The Curse of the High IQ Audiobook by Aaron Clarey

Title: The Curse of the High IQ
    Author: Aaron Clarey
    Narrator: Jason Brooks
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 3 hrs and 54 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-22-16
    Publisher: Paric Media
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 113 votes
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
Society, by statistical necessity, needs to focus on the majority. It needs to be built and designed for "the average". Society, by moral necessity, also needs to focus on the disadvantaged and disabled, helping those who cannot help themselves. But while the majority of society's resources, attention, and infrastructure is dedicated to average or below-average people, little-to-none of it is dedicated to the abnormally intelligent. And while having a high IQ is an overall net benefit in life, being a statistical intellectual freak is not without its drawbacks. Welcome to The Curse of the High IQ.
Whether you fall asleep during class, constantly ram heads with your boss, can't understand why people watch the Oscars, are an alcoholic, or are accused of having ADD, having a high IQ can be a maddening experience. What you see as the obvious solution is what the "normies" will fight against tooth and nail. Those Ds you keep getting in English? Your superior mind being held hostage by the boring and inferior mind of your teacher. And you'd like to start a family? Good luck finding an intellectual equal for a spouse. And so while the world obsesses on their own problems, no one is paying attention to the problems of the abnormally intelligent. However, that all changes now with Curse of the High IQ.
Curse of the High IQ is the first book specifically written for abnormally intelligent people. It identifies and addresses a litany of problems intelligent people face, analyzes them and provides solutions. But more importantly it aims to bring sanity to those who struggle with abnormal intelligence, especially those who are unaware they have it. So if you're constantly at odds with society, are suffering from depression or ennui, can't find any reason or agency in life, or just plain can't find any friends, consider purchasing this book.
    Members Reviews:
    relateable. although solutions are vague.
I related a lot and got a few nice ideas to solve my problems. Thanks!
More like "The Curse of Being Autistic"
The author basically spends the entire time pessimistically pointing out the problems he sees in society while offering no solutions. Instead, he just hopes his readers will find solace in his explanation that society has these problems because we are forced to cater to the majority of people who have average IQs and we just have to accept that. It's literally just an endless list of complaints and the author comes off very whiney and arrogant. Very disappointing overall. This book should offer advice on how to relate better to people in order to fit in, have greater influence, and ultimately be happier. Instead, he just complains the whole time.
It is my opinion that the author has severe autism as it doesn't seem like he is able to relate to people he deems of average or low IQ. His endless rants also don't seem to serve any constructive purpose other than to show how awesome he thinks he is. It becomes painfully clear that he thinks he should be worshipped for his "high IQ," and doesn't understand why he can't get along with most "average IQ" people. He 100% attributes this to the fact that their lower IQ renders them incapable of comprehending what it's like to be him. This general lack of social awareness is a textbook autistic trait.
Don't waste your time with this book.

    Release date: 07-12-16
    Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 40 votes
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
Science writer Jonah Lehrer explores the mysterious subject of love.
Weaving together scientific studies from clinical psychologists, longitudinal studies of health and happiness, historical accounts and literary depictions, child-rearing manuals, and the language of online dating sites, Jonah Lehrer's A Book About Love plumbs the most mysterious, most formative, most important impulse governing our lives.
Love confuses and compels us - and it can destroy and define us. It has inspired our greatest poetry and defined our societies and our beliefs, and it governs our biology. From the way infants attach to their parents to the way we fall in love with other people to the way some find a love for God or their pets to the way we remember and mourn love after it ends, this book focuses on research that attempts, even in glancing ways, to deal with the long-term and the everyday. The most dangerous myth of love is that it's easy, that we fall into the feeling, and then the feeling takes care of itself. While we can easily measure the dopamine that causes the initial feelings of "falling" in love, the partnerships and devotions that last decades or longer remain a mystery.
This book is about that mystery. Love, Lehrer argues, is not built solely on overwhelming passion but, fascinatingly, on a set of skills to be cultivated over a lifetime.

Recommended. Well written and articulate, with care, exuberance and good research. My wife and I listened together. We are grandparents now. It was reassuring to us that we have given our children the tools to become wonderful parents. They certainly have chosen wonderful mates and have the grit and great relationships we wished for them.

Length: 7 hrs and 34 mins

    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 10 votes
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
This is an absorbing account of a dialogue between leading Western scientists and the foremost representative of Buddhism today, the Dalai Lama of Tibet.
For modern science, the transitional states of consciousness lie at the forefront of research in many fields. For a Buddhist practitioner, these same states present crucial opportunities to explore and transform consciousness itself. This book is the account of a historic dialogue between leading Western scientists and the Dalai Lama of Tibet. Revolving around three key moments of consciousness - sleep, dreams, and death - the conversations recorded here are both engrossing and highly listenable. Whether the topic is lucid dreaming, near-death experiences, or the very structure of consciousness itself, the listener is continually surprised and delighted.
Narrated by Fajer Al-Kaisi, the book begins with insightful remarks on the notion of personal identity by noted philosopher Charles Taylor, author of the acclaimed Sources of Self. This sets the stage for Dr. Jerome Engel, Dr. Joyce MacDougal, and others to engage in extraordinary exchanges with the Dalai Lama on topics ranging from the neurology of sleep to the yoga of dreams.
Remarkable convergences between the Western scientific tradition and the Buddhist contemplative sciences are revealed. Dr. Jayne Gackenbach's discussion of lucid dreaming, for example, prompts a detailed and fascinating response from the Dalai Lama on the manipulation of dreams by Buddhist meditators. The conversations also reveal provocative divergences of opinion, as when the Dalai Lama expresses skepticism about near-death experiences as presented by Joan Halifax. The conversations are engrossing and highly listenable. Any listener interested in psychology, neuroscience, Buddhism, or the alternative worlds of dreams will surely enjoy Sleeping, Dreaming, and Dying.
    Members Reviews:
Scientific and Tibetan views on sleeping, dreaming [lucid dreaming / dream yoga], and death compared and contrasted
This book is a product of the 4th Mind & Life Institute Conference that took place over five days in October of 1992 in Dharamsala, India. It reads as a narrated description / transcription of the event. The Mind & Life Institute was established as a dialogue between science and Tibetan Buddhism, and is actively supported by His Holiness the Dalai Lamaâwho is an important figure in the book, both asking questions of the presenters and offering clarification on Tibetan Buddhist thinking on various points. The exact subject of each conference is different, but the mind is a recurring theme. Which makes sense as Tibetan Buddhist practices of the mind are as advanced as any, and it would be of great benefit to understand them better from a scientific perspective.
As the title suggests, this conference (and the book) deal with three topics: sleeping, dreaming, and dying. This may seem like a case of âone of these things doesnât belong,â but from the Buddhist perspective on consciousness itâs a sensible enough grouping. One can think of it this way, sleeping and dying are points at which consciousness goes bye-bye.

    Publisher's Summary:
This is a summary of Ego Is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday.
    Original book description:
"While the history books are filled with tales of obsessive visionary geniuses who remade the world in their images with sheer, almost irrational force, I've found that history is also made by individuals who fought their egos at every turn, who eschewed the spotlight, and who put their higher goals above their desire for recognition." (From the prologue)
Many of us insist the main impediment to a full, successful life is the outside world. In fact the most common enemy lies within: our ego. Early in our careers, it impedes learning and the cultivation of talent. With success, it can blind us to our faults and sow future problems. In failure, it magnifies each blow and makes recovery more difficult. At every stage, ego holds us back.
Ego Is the Enemy draws on a vast array of stories and examples, from literature to philosophy to history. We meet fascinating figures such as George Marshall, Jackie Robinson, Katharine Graham, Bill Belichick, and Eleanor Roosevelt, who all reached the highest levels of power and success by conquering their own egos. Their strategies and tactics can be ours as well.
In an era that glorifies social media, reality TV, and other forms of shameless self-promotion, the battle against ego must be fought on many fronts. Armed with the lessons in this book, as Holiday writes, "you will be less invested in the story you tell about your own specialness, and as a result you will be liberated to accomplish the world-changing work you've set out to achieve."

    Ego is the Enemy
This audiobook summary is an excellent compliment to the full-version of Ego is The Enemy by Ryan Holiday. I just recently began immersing myself in Stoicism-related philosophy and it's incredible to me how these thousand-year old concepts are still so applicable today.
    Short & sweet
This is an excellent summary of the key points in a very interesting book. I really appreciate the summaries because I have often found that business books have too much fluff.
    Cliches are the Enemy
The advice doesn't seem novel or grounded in emerpircism but more like a bunch of mish mashed platitudes. I didn't really find what I was looking for here.
    Narrator is abismal
Sorry... just didnt click with this narrator... enunciation and emphasis were sick... hope the reading is better
Protect your ego, don't buy this review!
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
No one. As a review for a "self-help" book, the biggest help to you potential readers is to ignore.
Would you ever listen to anything by FlashBooks Book Summaries again?
    No, never. Insipid trash.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Narrator was fine, content was lame.
    Any additional comments?
I realize this was only $2.76, but it was honestly one of the worst purchases I have made on Audible. This "review" company strikes me as being a scam. AVOID!!!

Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
The human mind is a complicated array of wirings of the past combined with the physical and chemical inclinations of the present. Psychology is the study of the human brain, but it's so much more than a mere dissection of the gooey gray mass trapped in our skulls; it's a study of what makes us tick as individuals and as a species.
Human Psychology 101: Understanding the Human Mind and What Makes People Tick is meant to show you the facets of a human being and how they work together to make a person tick. It's not a psychological treatise or a DSM-V. It's a collection of my own research on psychology and stories from my life and the lives of my friends and acquaintances that help illustrate the principles I'm going to be telling you about.
I will be dividing this book into seven aspects of human psychology: emotions, personality, decision making, morality, perception, behavior, and relationships. To understand what makes someone tick is to have mastered a sort of psychological sleight of hand, and I hope that this book serves as a useful step on your way to mastery over that brand of magic trick. How human beings think and behave is an unendingly fascinating study, one that reveals how simple and elegant and, on the other hand, complex and mysterious we all are. I hope you are as pumped as I am to think about the inner workings of how people tick.
