    Wandering towards enlightenment
Wow. Not sure if this is fiction or non-fiction. It doesn't matter. Sucked me in. Keri (the author) describes a secret society based on wandering. This is a self selecting society with no structure. This is very much up my alley.
This simulates me to get out and wander. To commune with nature, to sense the ground under my feet. To slow and do walking meditation. To quiet my "default network". That chatter between my ears that is so insistent on my listening. I recommend this to all walkers, all introverts, all free thinkers. Solvitur ambulando = it is solved by walking.
    AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY
a lot of new age hype
I am not sure if Smith found the Wander society as she claims or created it. It's a pretty genius way to market a book ( tell the reader they will belong to some secret culture when they buy it). Everyone has a need to belong and the secret bit just makes it exciting.
the books hypothesis is that wandering can "awaken new levels of consciousness" . I think it's referring to the psychological phenomenon of highway hypnosis. Why send money on a book to experience this? Just start taking walks.
    Good book
Easy to listen to. Especially when walking! If you have gotten wrapped up in routine, this book will help you think outside if the box. Thanks for inspiration.
Title is catchy but I want a refund. Thanks.
What I liked: she spreads some good ideas/topics for those who are "unaware" to ponder on...
For Whom: if you're lost in life this may give you something to think about but don't take it seriously.
That's all I want to say for now.

  • 12 Types of Women Who Attract Narcissists: Narcissism Epidemic Audiobook by J.B. Snow

Title: 12 Types of Women Who Attract Narcissists: Narcissism Epidemic
    Subtitle: Transcend Mediocrity, Book 97
    Author: J.B. Snow
    Narrator: Stephanie Harris
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 25 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-25-16
    Publisher: JB Snow Publishing
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 48 votes
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
Life with a narcissist is daunting, harrowing, and unpredictable. He is self-absorbed, self-sufficient, and self-serving. He is haughty, arrogant, and oblivious to your wishes, desires, dreams, and goals. He is rude and envious toward others. He has terrible behavior and even worse manners. He is untrustworthy and incapable of any true and consistent feelings worthy of anyone else's attention.
Life with a narcissist is all-consuming, isolated, and draining. He is lacking any adult skills or abilities to meet another person's needs, and so he misbehaves and acts out in order to take your attention away from his all-consuming deficits. He is truly only half of a man - and maybe that is generous. He often falls through on his responsibilities to you, up to and including simply meeting your sexual needs.
Why do women run to these men in droves? What causes them to drop at the feet of narcissists, seemingly begging for their punishment and negative behaviors?
This book seeks to define the deficits that are often present in the woman who seeks out or inadvertently falls prey to a petty narcissist. The narcissist seeks out only specific types of women, and he turns a blind eye to others. There are only certain types of women who have a deficit or an overinterest in dating emotionally immature men such as narcissists. We seek to define these in order to bring a broader knowledge to those who suffer at the hands of narcissists and why narcissists seek out these types for their amusement.

    To the Point
There is no really a story. Quick bullet points.
Which were helpful. Very intelligent writer. Knows her stuff. Took me like 10 min to listen to it. Wealth of information.
    Two Thumbs Up
A short but informative book that has the reader reflecting upon one's self. It gives several explanations as to why the reader may be attracted to as well as attract a narcissist rather than focusing solely on the behaviors of the narcissist. The narrator is both articulate and engaging in her performance.
    very satisfactory
hi please lend an ear to this brief but rich book filled with practical narrative
    Good Basic Insight for beginners
It's short and doesn't go too much into detail but I believe it can definitely open.ones eyes to some behaviours that need to change within.
    Not much insight
Wouldn't pay more. It could be any woman really. These short books are enticing like the celebrity gossip magazines but no value to self growth.

Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
The startling new science behind sudden acts of violence committed by ordinary, sane people from a leading neurobiologist.
According to R. Douglas Fields, PhD, we all have a rage circuit we can't fully control once it is engaged. The daily headlines are filled with examples of otherwise rational people with no history of violence or mental illness suddenly snapping in a domestic dispute, barroom brawl, or road rage attack. We all wish to believe that we are in control of our actions, but the fact is, in certain circumstances we are not. Something in our environment can unexpectedly unleash an automatic and complex rage response.
Dr. Fields is an internationally recognized neurobiologist and authority on the brain and the cellular mechanisms of memory. He has spent years trying to understand the biological basis of rage and anomalous violence, and he has concluded that our culture's understanding of the problem is based on an erroneous assumption: that rage attacks are the product of morally or mentally defective individuals rather than a capacity that we all possess. The sad truth is that the right trigger in the right circumstance can unleash a fit of rage in almost anyone. And as Dr. Fields reveals and details for the first time, there are precisely nine triggers.
Fields shows that violent behavior is the result of the clash between our evolutionary hardwiring and triggers in our contemporary world. Our personal space is more crowded than ever, we get less sleep, and we just aren't as fit as our ancestors. We need to understand how the hardwiring works and how to recognize the nine triggers.
With a totally new perspective, engaging narrative, and practical advice, Why We Snap uncovers the biological roots of the rage response and how we can protect ourselves - and others.

the book does not provide therapy as much as awareness and early recognition
it assists in understanding the ancient internal wiring of our minds
within our brains are circuits built to recognize and abate serious threats
the survival advantage of these circuits is, to some, quite obvious and necessary

Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
A groundbreaking investigation of the brain's hidden logic behind our strangest behaviors and of how conscious and unconscious systems interact in order to create our experience and preserve our sense of self.
From bizarre dreams and hallucinations to schizophrenia and multiple personalities, the human brain is responsible for a diverse spectrum of strange thoughts and behaviors. When observed from the outside, these phenomena are often written off as being just "crazy", but what if they were actually planned and logical?
NeuroLogic explores the brain's internal system of reasoning, from its unconscious depths to conscious decision making, and illuminates how it explains our most outlandish as well as our most stereotyped behaviors. From sleepwalking murderers, contagious yawning, and the brains of sports fans to false memories, subliminal messages, and the secret of ticklishness, Dr. Eliezer Sternberg shows that there are patterns to the way the brain interprets the world - patterns that fit the brain's unique logic. Unraveling these patterns and the various ways they can be disturbed will not only alter our view of mental illness and supernatural experience but will also shed light on the hidden parts of ourselves.

    Critic Reviews:
"Eliezer J. Sternberg's NeuroLogic is an eye-opener, an entertaining, yet thought-provoking investigation of how our brains work - including why we do some of the strange things we do. Sternberg pries open our minds to expose the way our brain operates, providing insight into topics ranging from our perceptions and habits, to hypnosis, language, and learning. Neurologic expertly guides the reader through the unconscious logic of the human brain. I came away from this book with an enhanced sense of who I am as a person." (Leonard Mlodinow, author of Subliminal)
"In NeuroLogic, Sternberg takes us on a fascinating exploration of the impulses and quirks that make us human. An innovative, engaging look inside the black box that is the mind." (Maria Konnikova, author of Mastermind: How to Think Like Sherlock Holmes)
"Dr. Sternberg's enthusiasm for neuroscience bursts out of every page. In clear language he tackles a series of fascinating neurological curiosities that are windows into the wonder of the brain." (Dr. Sally Satel, author of Brainwashed: The Seductive Appeal of Mindless Neuroscience)
    Members Reviews:
great story, well sourced, based on assumptions.
the writer does a great job illuminating many neurological disorders by focusing on the specific studies they're tired to. unfortunately, he assumes much in his analysis of the volition of sub/unconscious processes. many explanations of nearly all of the neurological disorders here are made under the guise of pseudo-Freudianism. The author ascribes cognitions to the unconscious that he can't back up with evidence.
His analysis of dissociative identity disorder is well written and well understood, but he assigns its cause to the unconscious trying to protect the brain by hypnotizing itself.

A prescriptive guide to restoring cognitive calm, based on Amen Clinic Chief Psychiatrist Dr. Joseph Annibali's three decades of treating patients who suffer from overloaded, over-stimulated brains.
Dr. Joseph Annibali has treated thousands of people with overloaded, over-stimulated brains. Some people describe their brain as being "in chaos"; others feel that their brain is "on fire". But whether they are ultimately diagnosed with "normal" anxiety, disabling OCD, depression, bipolar disorder, or even substance abuse, the underlying problem is a Too-Busy-Brain, a great irritant that interferes with attention, concentration, focus, mood, and often much more. It may even be a sign of undetected damage to either the brain or the body itself. But through practical strategies, understandable explanations, and prescriptive mind-management techniques, Dr. Annibali will help listeners finally reclaim their brains and get back in control of their lives.

    Rather Dissapointing
Maybe I was expecting too much, or something different, but this book offered very little new to me. Seems like the same old story: low carbs, more greens and berries, green tea, meditation...
Basically it's a self help book mainly for people with serious and chronic digestive problems. I'm sure it's useful for those people, but I was really hoping to learn more about gut-brain interaction and this did not deliver.
Since I wasn't being helped and the slightly "salesmanish" tone of the writing was painful, I only made it about three quarters of the way before giving up.
    Excellent Self Help Book
What did you love best about Reclaim Your Brain?
I love the examples that Dr. Annibali gives to explain reasons the brain loops scenes and thoughts over and over again. I deal with many mental patients in a clinic at my work place. It is interesting to see why and how others are acting out their symptoms.
    Which scene was your favorite?
The research subjects are insightful. It makes sense that Dr. Amen recommends this book. Both of these doctors have made great strides in the Mental Health field.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Great Narration. Nothing wrong at all.
    Any additional comments?
Everyone should read this book. Audio and Kindle versions are excellent manuals.
    loved It!
Very helpful. Eye opening. If you or someone you know is suffering from conditions that seem unexplainable to you and others are writing them off as depression, anxiety or other mental conditions. Listen to this book, you may find some answers.

Title: Revealing Psychiatry: From an Insider
Subtitle: Psychiatric Stories for Open Minds and to Open Minds
    Author: Pavlos Sakkas
    Narrator: Jack Chekijian
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 48 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-02-15
    Publisher: Stergiou Limited
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 11 votes
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
This volume contains the principal elements preoccupying modern psychiatry. The author introduces the listener to all mental illnesses, on the one hand through real examples derived from his rich clinical experience and on the other explaining in simple terms the fault that is the underlying cause. It is in essence an interesting investigation into the magical world of the human brain.
Using easily comprehended language, the author provides convincing explanations for the diverse mental functions. The models he expounds on bring mental illness down to earth from the mists of philosophy to the realities of medicine. He compares schizophrenia to a minor short circuit and anorexia nervosa to the activation of a program in reserve in the brain. He gives reasons for the necessity for sleep and dreams.
Other than a doctor, however, Pavlos Sakkas is a person intensively querying social behavior. His many years of practice of psychiatry and his experience of human pain give him the potential to be of assistance to those who arrive at crucial crossroads in their lives. His charitable attitude and the unconventional viewpoints he develops provide interesting answers to the greatest existentialist questioning of human beings. He speaks of his own questioning and recounts what he answers when his patients ask him about the meaning of life.

    Very Informative Psychiatric Studies
"Revealing Psychiatry" is an interesting look at some of the issues regarding mental illness as well as other topics of study. The book draws upon case studies and is a good informative listen for anyone in the academic field of psychiatry. I like Pavlos Sakkas' approach through open-mindedness. This was a book I had to listen to in several sittings as it's a lot to absorb but very worthwhile.
Jack Chekijian's narration was excellent. He's has a wonderful voice with spot on inflections as well as perfect enunciation. His professionalism shows and he's become one of my fave readers. In "Revealing Psychiatry" his delivery is well suited for the content. An overall great job.
Audiobook gifted in exchange for an honest review.
    Seriously informative!
This book is an excellent resource for anyone who cares for, lives with, or just seeks to understand the inner workings of the human brain. The information is presented in a way that is easy to understand, and yet revolutionizes the way we view one of the most amazingly complex organs we use. The whole book is interesting, but for the purpose of easing the minds of a specific illness, after you read the first chapter, the other chapters are broken down into a respective illness. So, you could skip around. The narrator did a great job with enunciating clearly, which made the information easier to digest without distraction.

Learning to know myself - ENTP
I myself am an ENTP, and wanted to learn more about myself. I found it very enlightening and an integrering read. My critique is that not all ENTPs will and can be famous or brilliant inventors. Also, I feel it presents the ENTPs as heartless and unable to understand emotions. We do understand emotions, and have a emotional inner life. But it is right that we perhaps do not value it as highly as other personality types.

    Publisher's Summary:
Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED) is a disorder which often gets diagnosed for people who do not fall under other mental disorders or personality disorders, but who experience rage incidents which are seemingly uncontrollable to them. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, "IED affects as many as 7.3 percent of adults - 11.5-16 million Americans". It is also estimated by NIMH that "six million...adolescents...meet the criteria for an IED diagnosis".
The disorder can be diagnosed as young as age six, but is typically diagnosed in early adolescence when many teens are already at risk for rebellious behavior. Just three explosive and aggressive events where a person breaks possessions or becomes violent or threatening toward another person can be used as a basis to diagnose Intermittent Explosive Disorder. The more severe the disorder, the more property damage and violent episodes will occur with the disorder.
People who have IED are often aggressive toward others in verbal or physical ways, including threatening the lives of other people or animals. They may be aggressive while participating in activities, such as a driver experiencing road rage behind the wheel. They may attack others who frustrate or trigger their angry outbursts verbally or physically, or they may throw or break objects to let out their frustration.
The person often feels overly intolerant of other people, up to and including their opinions, their words or their behaviors. They may display ongoing low-level anger, impulse control, and irritability in the presence of others. They may feel physical symptoms in their muscles, brain, or heart leading up to their angry outburst, including an inability to control violent thoughts or verbal and physical attacks.

A fascinating dialogue on the human desire to make up stories between Nobel Prize-winning author J. M. Coetzee and psychotherapist Arabella Kurtz
The Good Story is an exchange between a writer with a long-standing interest in moral psychology and a psychotherapist with training in literary studies. Coetzee and Kurtz consider psychotherapy and its wider social context from different perspectives, but at the heart of both their approaches is a fascination with narrative. Working alone, the writer is in control of the story he or she tells. The therapist, on the other hand, collaborates with the patient in telling the story that might reveal the "truth."
The authors discuss both individual psychology and the psychology of the group: the school classroom, the gang, the settler nation in which the brutal deeds of the ancestors must be accommodated into a national story. In a meeting of the minds that is illuminating, surprising, and thought provoking, Coetzee and Kurtz explore the human capacity for self-examination - our attempts to understand our own individual life stories as well as our part in the larger story through language.

Probably most interesting to psychotherapists who aspire to write fiction.
A compelling, in depth, analysis of the relationship between therapy & writing fiction. Enough to make your head spin, but often wondrously so.
But, though the male voice is decent enough, the female reader is rather awful, that is, stilted, robotic, faltering often in pace, sounding like a computerized voice ... a lot. If I was the therapist (and I am one), I would be embarrassed to have my work translated in this manner. I was surprised to see it get accepted for an audio book. If I hadn't been so interested in the topic, I would have bailed after the first exchange.
Lastly, as an aspiring novelist too, Mr. Coetzee was immensely inspiring!
