A little tamer than I expected

The stories were good, but I was expecting (hoping) for a little more spice.

The different culture was a bit of a surprise, not a bad surprise, however didn't expect it.

A perfect collection! Sweet, sexy and even sad.

Would you listen to Sweet Dreams again? Why?

Yes, oh my goodness, what a unique collection of short stories! This is the first erotica that I've come across where the stories are mostly based around couples where one or both are from India. The stories incorporate many beautiful aspects of Indian culture.

What did you like best about this story?

The variety in the stories, they each had a different feel to them, some were super sexy, others were sweet and some where sad, the combination is fantastic.

What does Simone Lewis and Vikas Adam bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

They worked really well together and both were able to pull of good Indian and American accents as well as good character voices for both genders. I was really impressed and I'd love to listen to more book narrated by them either together or separately.

There are 12 short stories in the book, mostly around 20 minutes in length.

During some stories I laughed, some got me in the mood, and the last made me cry. Sunny did a fantastic job of evoking a whole range of emotions with her stories.

Didn't know what to expect

I have not listened to many "Erotica" books before. I think both narrators Simone Lewis and Vikas Adam did a fantastic job with the Indian accents. I had not read Sunny Leone previously. I was intrigued by the concept of this book. I fully enjoyed these stories. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and/or publisher.

Modern Morality Fables

Matt Bellâs A Tree or a Person or a Wall might be categorized as Existentialist Horror. If human beings are the architects of our own fate, then Bellâs stories suggest weâve pretty much made a hash of it.

As a warning to fans of Stephen King or Edgar Allen Poe or even Shirley Jackson, you wonât find anything that straightforward within these pages. These are literary allegories chock full of evocative and disturbing imagery with plots that are often vague or surrealistic. Most seem to deal with the repercussions of human folly, like bigotry (âThe Migrationâ), over-reliance on technology and conformity (âFor You We Are Holdingâ) or the pursuit of eternal youth (âThe Inheritanceâ). The title piece, âA Tree or a Person or a Wall,â is about a young boy who spends his life imprisoned in a cell with an albino ape until such time as he will become the jailer and imprison another small boy, perhaps illustrating the vicious cycle of complacency that perpetuates evil.

The longest story âCataclysm Baby,â is a literal A-to-Z of freakish children born into an ever more desecrated world; each baby represents some aspect of the moral degradation of mankind and the ways in which weâve exploited [and will ultimately destroy] our world. This seems to be a popular theme with Bell as there are a number of straight-out dystopian and/or apocalyptic tales. In âThe Collectors,â we get a glimpse into the final days of the real-life Collyer brothers, New York socialites turned hoarders who died as a result of being trapped amongst the debris and filth theyâd accumulated in their Fifth Avenue mansion. Sort of a microcosm of mankindâs relationship to the planet and, taken in the context of the rest of the collection, certainly some sort of cautionary tale.

Bell has a great command of mood and his language is very haunting. The stories have a way of sticking with you and making you think.

And Some Not So Obvious

When I read the first story of this collection, I was not sure that I was going to like it - but with each page I read, I appreciated the author's perceptions more and more. There is a calmness to her writing that belies the emotion and depth of each narrative. The characters are well-drawn and none of the stories are ordinary. It is a collection that I think needs to be read more than once, with a space of time in-between - one that will give new insights with each reading. The only criticism I have is that there just aren't as many stories as I would like to explore. A beautiful work.

Each story is a jewel. The writing is careful, masterful... The word beautiful doesn't do it justice. This book deserves the widest possible audience.

Ms Stegner is a gifted writer, weaving vivid images with delicately observed sensibilities.

Powerful, engaging stories

These wonderfully written, highly engaging stories are rich with insight into a range of very different characters, revealed by finding the character at a turning point in his/her life. In my personal favorite, a seemingly patient woman's suffused rage surfaces to prevent her son from adopting his father's worst character traits. In another, we follow a young woman's mood shifts over a 24-hour period as they signal a shift in her life direction. Stegner never explains too much, and she captures brilliantly the sometimes tender, sometimes violent, creepy thoughts that exist just below the surface of polite discourse.

The stories have a powerful sense of place, with vivid physical details that propel the reader right into the scene with the characters.

Tales of hilarity and and the bodily function humor fit for a ten year old

Laughed during the whole thing...the last sort my boys and I played over and over five times in a row laughing so hard we had tears coming down our faces. The narrator was PERFECT for the role. No, but I enjoyed her reading Hairy Tales, it allowed me to close my eyes and imagine characters that I could compare with the vision my Grandchildren had. It was great fun.

Not Your Typical Tales

What made the experience of listening to Hairy Tales the most enjoyable?

These short stories are descriptive and quirky; not your typical tales. The narration is really good, and the character voices help bring the tales to life.

Well read, silly and light

These short stories are very creative, written in a way that expresses how children think when they are being silly together.

The narrator adds depth to the stories and helps the listener easily imagine each character. The flow that she creates makes it easy for any listener, young or old, to follow each adventure.

I would recommend this for children, during trips or rainy spells, to keep the boredom away.

Although I am not considered young, I still enjoyed listening as the narrator performed each story.

CRASHING INTO LOVE

I loved this sweet romance of two people who find each other by literally bumping into one another in an airport gift shop. What a coincidence that they are both on the same plane to Paris and both in first class seating. Sometimes romance happens by a chance meeting and love can blossom. The plot kept me captivated and the dialog is charming. I enjoyed this budding romance with all the sights and smells of Paris. One lives in the US and one in France, can these two people living so far apart make a long distance relationship work?

Wonderful anthology

Christmas Anthology - Love and Romance by Sharon Kleve is a collection of previously released short novellas. I really think all had been published earlier in other anthologies but never in one that is completely consisting of works by Sharon Kleve, Several I had not read so it was a delight to find them all in one collection.

Josey's Christmas Cookie is a sweet story of learning to overcome grief and really live again. One of the best parts for me was the twelve months later in the last chapter. This gives the whole story a completed feeling.

In Love with Paris by Sharon Kleve could also be titled Finding Love in Paris. There is no high suspense or intense drama in this story; simply sweet love. Paget accidently runs into fellow passenger Christopher at the Seattle airport. Both are going to Paris. Christopher is a resident there while Paget is going on a holiday. Through Pagetâs eyes and Christopherâs suggestions you are given armchair tour of the Louvre along with some Paris restaurants. When you finish reading this short novella you feel as if you have been there yourself.

Christmas Kiss is a story of love healing past hurts. I enjoyed the Christmas tree farm setting as well as seeing Roman and Adelaide discover true love. Loved the name Adelaide too.

This is a book that should be required reading

Commonly, society expects women to be the nurturers bearing the heavy burden of emotional support where as men are the hunters/providers who are exempt from showing much in the way of emotion. They are strong and expected to just know their way to adult hood. Delicate Men uses Zach, Jim, Collin, Garret and others who are in the process of growing into manhood and who are still very fresh and inexperienced.

R. Dean Johnson demonstrates through a series of stories the mine fields of emotion, sensitivity and hardening of ones heart that men must maneuver. The relationships between male and female, male and male, mentee and mentor are explored and reveal growth, vulnerabilities and doubts. Males having to meet and accept the roles thrust upon them by society; it is a long rocky road full of pitfalls and rituals that in the end make them stronger, smarter make them men.

Garret is caught between being popular and standing up for his friend Jamie. Jim struggles with his new-found love while backpacking across Europe and fulfilling her meth dependency. Both struggle with relationships, how others will view them and ultimately becoming a man the steps that follow in their lives. Each story reveals more and more about men and their doubts, vulnerability.

Johnsons short stories are poignant and telling. Well written and haunting. The feelings, doubts and experiences shared feel true and are written with confidence leaving no room for confusion. The characters and their experiences are clear and communicate what needs to be known in a clear manner. The stories are subtle but highly effective.

Scott Leslie, the narrator, did an excellent job of reading the stories. Talented, he portrayed the uncertainty and subsequent growth of each character through his voice pattern, pitch and emotion. Leslies voice adds to the story giving it more depth and range. Soft spoken, concise and yet boyishly charming.

This audiobook was not what I expected at all. It is so much more! This is a book that should be required reading. Raising a son and a grandson, I had no clue the difficulties young men faced with reaching adult hood. I have fallen into the myths society has supported for eons. Young men walk a fine line between being sensitive and being a man who is smart and strong and that people will respect.

The audio production of this book was fine, there was a little bit of white noise in between stories and at least once or twice where sentences were repeated. Otherwise it was well done.

An unrealistic worst case scenario

This is an ultra depressing book about the worst case scenario of people that come from messed up backgrounds, join the military and return to civilian life even more messed up with the addition of PTS. It's an unrealistic and awful story.
