Yes, I would recommend this to all my friends because a majority of us consume GMOs every single day of our lives. Which, after reading this book, is disgusting.

More information than I thought could fit into such a short book.
A child's book but it is packed, and I do mean packed with information. Every paragraph contains info that I was curious about and/or simply didn't know.
A Struggle for Survival in the Everglades
The Moon of the Alligators is the October moon in Jean Craighead George's Thirteen Moons series for children in the middle grades. Each book in the series features a different kind of animal or bird in his native environment in a given month of the year. Not surprisingly, the setting of this book is the Everglades of Florida, a fascinating ecosystem which many of us have never personally encountered. The author and her illustrator Michael Rothman present the Everglades as a magical place but one where survival is very difficult. The alligator in the story saw seventeen of her thirty-nine littermates killed by predators on the first day of their lives, and as an adult she faced constant struggles against hunger as her food supply was disrupted by many different factors. Like the other books in the series, this one includes ten full-color paintings which are outstanding in creating the atmosphere of the Everglades. I think almost anyone, child or adult, could learn something from this book, and I expect they would enjoy doing it.
    A fun book.
This was great fun to read.I like reading childrens books as they help to keep one young at heart. A must read for young readers.

A Black Bear in the Mountains of Tennessee
The Moon of the Bears is the February moon in Jean Craighead George's Thirteen Moons series. In this series she spotlights a particular animal in his natural environment during a given month of the year. This book tells the story of a female black bear, Ursus americanus, who lives in the mountains of Tennessee. We see her temporarily emerge from semi-hibernation on the warmer days of February and encounter raccoons, mourning doves, and redwing blackbirds. We also see, through flashbacks, how the bear found a mate during the summer and how they stole a ham from a campground and raided a bee tree. The 44-page story ends with the birth of her cubs. All the books in the Thirteen Moons series feature beautiful full-page, full-color paintings which alone would be worth the price of the book. In this case there are ten paintings by Ron Parker. My favorites show the Smoky Mountains in autumn and in winter and the bear under snow-covered trees. These books are designed for children in the middle grades but they can be enjoyed by anyone of any age. If you are unfamiliar with this series, by all means get one of the books. You'll like it.

    Publisher's Summary:
The number-one Sunday Times best seller.
A fascinating explanation of how evolution works, from the best-selling author of The God Delusion, Richard Dawkins.
The river of Dawkins's title is a river of DNA, flowing through time from the beginning of life on earth to the present - and onwards. Dawkins explains that DNA must be thought of as the most sophisticated information system imaginable: 'Life is just bytes and bytes of information,' he writes.
Using this perspective, he describes the mechanisms by which evolution has taken place, gradually but inexorably, over a period of three billion years. It is the story of how evolution happens, rather than a narrative of what has actually happened in evolution. He discusses current views on the process of human evolution, including the idea that we all trace back to a comparatively recent African 'Eve', and speculates that the 'information explosion' that was unleashed on Earth when DNA came into being has almost certainly happened in other places in the universe.
A bite-sized science classic, narrated by the author.
    Members Reviews:
Short & Sweet but perfectly formed
It's not the longest of Richard Dawkins books but what lacks in pages makes up for in content. I thought I knew a lot about genes but this book completes the story and frankly it is more awe inspiring then I initially comprehended.
As a long time agnostic I have had to reconsider my stance after reading this as full blown atheism just makes more logical sense.

    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 19 votes
    Genres: Science & Technology, Biology
    Publisher's Summary:
While examining the history of our planet and actively exploring our present environment, science journalist Michael Tennesen describes what life on Earth could look like after the next mass extinction.
A growing number of scientists agree we are headed toward a mass extinction, perhaps in as little as 300 years. There have already been five in the last 600 million years, including the Cretaceous extinction, during which an asteroid knocked out the dinosaurs. Though these events were initially destructive, they were also prime movers of evolutionary change in nature. And we can see some of the warning signs of another extinction event coming as our oceans lose both fish and oxygen. In The Next Species, Michael Tennesen questions what life might be like after it happens.
Tennesen discusses the future of nature and whether humans will make it through the bottleneck of extinction. Without man, could the seas regenerate, returning to what they were before fishing vessels? Could life suddenly get very big, as it did before the arrival of humans? And what if man survives the coming catastrophes but in reduced populations? Would those groups be isolated enough to become distinct species? Could the conquest of Mars lead to another form of human? Could we upload our minds into a computer and live in a virtual reality? Or could genetic engineering create a more intelligent and long-lived creature that might shun the rest of us? And how would we recognize the next humans? Are they with us now?
Tennesen delves into the history of the planet and travels to rain forests, canyons, craters, and caves all over the world to explore the potential winners and losers of the next era of evolution. His predictions, based on reports and interviews with top scientists, have vital implications for life on Earth today.
    Members Reviews:
    Scary and yet true.
The book is interesting and very detailed. Maybe a tad too detailed to be honest as it feels like he goes over the same facts over and over again. The author lists when is happening now - not what is going to happen or what may happen but what is happening to the planet NOW. Elephants? The males are growing either small tusks or are losing the tusks all together. Fish? Many areas of the ocean now have squid. And the oceans?
They already have so much acid in them that it is killing off the krill AND making it harder for whales to hear each others' songs. The Sixth Extinction? It is here, now, we're living in it. And this book paints a picture of the future. A future that IS already here - no stopping it. This book is not a warning. This book is a statement. The author points out to save ourselves we would have to change ourselves - slow our population growth and limit our use of natural resources. Be honest with yourself - we all know that isn't going to happen.
This is one of the most scariest books I have had the horror of reading in a very long time.

    Publisher's Summary:
An award-winning author's stirring quest to find and understand an elusive and exceptionally rare species in the heart of Southeast Asia's jungles.
In 1992, in a remote mountain range, a team of scientists discovered the remains of an unusual animal with beautiful, long horns. It turned out to be a living species new to Western science - a saola, the first large land mammal discovered in 50 years.
Rare then and rarer now, no Westerner had glimpsed a live saola in the wild before Pulitzer Prize finalist and nature writer William deBuys and conservation biologist William Robichaud set off to search for it in the wilds of central Laos. The team endured a punishing trek, up and down whitewater rivers and through mountainous terrain ribboned with the snare lines of armed poachers.
In the tradition of Bruce Chatwin, Colin Thubron, and Peter Matthiessen, The Last Unicorn is deBuys' look deep into one of the world's most remote places. As in the pursuit of the unicorn, the journey ultimately becomes a quest for the essence of wildness in nature and an encounter with beauty.

Very Short Explanation of the Theory
The explanation of the theories is OK, but the word choices and sentence structures of many of the sentences make following the author's explanation somewhat difficult at times. Good thing it is short! In addition, the story lacks a beginning and an ending.
