    Publisher's Summary:
The original six-part BBC Radio 4 comedy sci-fi series starring Mark Gatiss and David Warner.
The year is 2099 and Professor Nebulous (Mark Gatiss, League of Gentlemen) is the director of eco-troubleshooting organisation K.E.N.T. - the Key Environmental Nonjudgemental Taskforce. But it's so under-funded it subsidises its work by running a launderette. And the twintub's malfunctioned. In a post-apocalyptic England, cattle-clasm has wiped out the majority of the livestock, there are new months such as Octember and Janril, and climate change has formed a drizzly new season called Hamble. Nebulous is determined to get Mother Earth back on the right track, nevertheless he must pit his wits against sentient dust, killer cacti, naked aliens and the evil Dr Klench (David Warner, Titanic, Star Trek VI) who's bent on world domination. Can K.E.N.T. save the day before the spin cycle finishes? Nebulous also stars Graham Crowden, Paul Putner and Rosie Cavaliero.

    This is great fun
If you could sum up Nebulous in three words, what would they be?
Funny, Inventive, the whole thing is just good fun. If you like British humor, and I do, this series is for you.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Well I liked them all but Dr Nebulous he remindes me of the 4th Doctor Who.
Which character as performed by Mark Gatiss and David Warner was your favorite?
Harry. He didn't have a huge part but it was always funny.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The storylines are inventive and there is lots of humor. They all made me laugh.
    Any additional comments?
This was well worth the credit. I hope there is a second series.
Please order series 2 and 3 Audible
Would you consider the audio edition of Nebulous to be better than the print version?
I don't know that there is a print version it was a radio show on radio 4 of the BbC
What other book might you compare Nebulous to and why?
Perhaps another radio play which similarly delightfully silly is cabin pressure which is the closest I can come to this.
    Which scene was your favorite?
When Paula can't overcome her crush on Professor Nebulous and makes him uncomfortable by kissing his midriff.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
No that kind of radio Play. Humor
    Any additional comments?
Please please audible make the next two series available.
    I shall not Clown!!!!
What did you love best about Nebulous?
    Monty Python meets Doctor Who.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Harry. "UNLIKE YOU, I NO LONGER HAVE THE LUXURY OF HUMOR"!
Which character as performed by Mark Gatiss and David Warner was your favorite?
    Professor Nebulous.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    I shall not Clown!!!!
    Amusingly Silly and Sarcastic
It's not the best of BBC radio programs, but entertaining nonetheless... Kinda what you'd get if you mixed Dr. Who and Get Smart... Then throw in some funny punning w/ Pop culture, science/medical, SF, and social references... I love Harry, he reminds me of Commodore Pike meets Marvin the android;). I'm not sure it's quite wortha credit though... Better to get it on sale...
    This was not funny!
This was not funny at all. It wasn't even witty. I was hoping with mark being in it, it would be good, but was disappointed.

    Title: The Quatermass Memoirs

    Author: Nigel Kneale
    Narrator: Andrew Keir
    Format: Original Recording
Length: 1 hr and 32 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-07-06
    Publisher: BBC Worldwide Limited
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 22 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Dramatizations
    Publisher's Summary:
Launching a new range of Classic Radio Sci-Fi releases, the renowned Quatermass Memoirs was first broadcast on BBC Radio 3 in 1996. It is a mix of original TV soundtrack and drama-documentary, in which Nigel Kneale reflects on the 1950s fearful atmosphere in which he wrote the classic Quatermass TV serials. The programme mixes the factual story with a dramatic narrative, in which the now-retired Professor Quatermass (played by Nigel Kneale) reluctantly recounts his past exploits to a female journalist. This in turn is interweaved with soundtrack footage from the Quatermass TV dramas. The final touch is a stirring music soundtrack.

    hmmm
If you are expecting a story, this is not it.It is more like a commentary track with a odd melding of original story, a new 'retrospective' from Quatermass, and the original writers historical commentary on the origins of the ideas.
Oh, and if I hear Holst's "Bringer of War" one more time...
    An interesting approach
This BBC radio production takes an interesting approach to adapting old TV sci fi. For the 'lost' Dr Who TV stories the Beeb took the original sound tracks (mostly recorded by fans) and produced new scene naration by original cast members. In practise what we got was a lot of old people doing dull audio description in the present tense. Certainly an accquired taste!
For Quatermass we have a mix of the original sound tracks, character naration and writer Nigel Kneales commentary on world events at the time of the TV broadcasts. This appraoch generally works very well. Occassionally the naration has to gloss over vast chunks of the story. This is frustrating and had the effect of throwing me out of the story.
By far the best part of the whole thing are Nigel Kneales fascinating 'real world' contributions, particulalry on the racial elements of 'Quatermass and the Pit'.
This is an very interesting production but I felt that it lacked something overall. There is certainly plenty to enjoy, but some of the story telling doesn't totaly work, at least it didn't for me. If you are a fan of BBC sci fi or old telly then add an extra star.
    Lucky to get 1 star
If you like 1950s BBC snobbery, precise stiff uppah lip commentary and posh cockneys this is for you!
For me, I prefer realistic characters I can refer to, not a bunch of well-to-do Hooray Henrys just out of some Knightsbridge drama school that mumsy and dadsy paid for along with a hefty annual allowance!!!
    Pathetic, Weak and Out-dated.

    not what i expected
The production quality is very good - which is the only good thing I can say. Maybe this was supposed to be a parody of a space detective story and I just didnt get it. The characters are shallow and generally unlikable, the plot is boring, and there is no real setting to speak of. Not really worth the time or money.

    Good ol' Seven
Felt like 3 lost episodes of Blake 7. Full cast, authentic music and sound effects, and good stories. A fun piece of Blake 7 history that's worth a nostalgic listen if nothing else.
    Sci fi
I enjoyed this Audio I could see the Characters in my mines eye as I listened to it.
If you like Blake Seven U'll like this
    Better then the TV series?
This is first rate radio sci fi with an excellent cast and two well paced adventures. It's just a shame there isn't more of it! You don't have to be a fan of the series to understand or enjoy these stories, although obviously that adds to the whole expirience.
    The magnificent seven!
Written by my uncle, I cannot be more proud of these. I think they are the most authentic radio series recordings. I love the big finish stuff, but somehow this is just soooo BBC.
Good stories, actors obviously having a whale of a time and the interlude between episodes is great; isn't included on the CD versions I note. I love the little winks at the audience re "old quarries", the digs at Beeb props, and Peter Tuffenham... "Let's do some more" that makes me sad because Big Finish took too long for him to do that.
Just a warning, the interlude between the stories has MAJOR SPOILERS if you are coming to Blakes 7 new. Listen to this after the final episode.
But I will just say that rumours of a certain persons death ARE greatly exaggerated. Thanks for clearing that up Paul.

    Members Reviews:
Hard to work out what's happening
The action jumps from place to place with little linking. I really had very little clue where anything went or why anyone was doing anything. Great performance, terrible scripting. Guess I'll have to get the actual book to find out what the deal is. I know this series is very popular. Maybe the writers assumed everyone listening would have read the books already?
Don't bother with this if you don't know the story.
    Brilliant book, shoddy dramatisation
I bought this audio CD knowing the nature of a dramatisation would mean certain changes from the book, what I was not expecting was the sheer extent to which the narrative was fiddled about with.
Things hapen too fast - all three of the major captured children from the books are now captured from the same place on the same day with no previous mentions to 'the Gobblers' at all - and exposition is handled poorly.
Introduced and 'narrated' by a character who does not appear in the books until near the end of the second. The scriptwriter seems to have made the assumption that his audience are idiots; introducing it with 'this is a parallel world. Deamons are souls' that completely lacks the subtlety of Pullman's work which never understimates its readers intelligence.
In the first scene (and again in Mrs. Coulters party) the dramatisation, instead of dropping hints, spells out exactly what the Gobblers are doing in the North, robbing the ultimate reveal of all shock and making you question Lyra's intellegence in not already having pieced it together.
The book is wonderful. This radio adaptation, however, doesn't do it justice. It cuts and dumbs down more than the film did.
If you want a dramatisation you'd be better off buying the full cast version narrated by Philip Pullman himself.
    Full cast, not full story
After listening to brilliant books like Stanek's The Kingdoms and the Elves, I was disappointed to say the least. Dramatised can be bloody good but this isn't the full story. If it were the full story, I'd have given 5 stars.
    Edge of the seat audio
I have to disagree with Fabio. Myself and my children loved listening to it in the car. All the actors really brought the story to life.
Good for recap but not new readers
A lot left out but a useful recap before The Book of Dust is published.

Radio Repertory Company's latest production pullsno punches. Taut writing with tongue in cheek, splendid performances and superb production, all wrapped up in a magnificent original score.
    Critic Reviews:
"Traci Elizabeth Lords is luxurious as Red Cloud, a sexy, sci-fi spy battling pirates, power-hungry politicians and personal demons on the tempting yet treacherous planet Chromius." (Sci Fi Magazine)
"Lords proves she isn't just a movie/TV actress anymore. She conveys a new dimension to her career with this role and it sounds like she is having too much fun doing it." (AudioWorld)
    Members Reviews:
    Furiously fast and funny
Great characters, especially Lords as Wendy McCloud/Red Cloud. The plot was fast paced if shallow, and the special effects were hilarious, especially the random news reports and phone calls that spanned light years without roaming charges. Definitely not appropriate for teenagers or younger, given all of the casual sex and random violence.
    lots of laughs and fun
Really enjoyed this one...my kind of humor. Wish it could have been longer as the time flew.
Talented cast with a cool story line.
Comedy in Play Was Most Enjoyable, Plus Good Cast.
I'm a fan for Big Finish Productions, and Seeing Ear Theatre's work so was looking for some other good audio dramas to listen to. Based off of past purchases, Audible's site kept recommending play made by this company, the Radio Repertory Company of America.
I also made it through the eighties and was a huge fan of Brinke Stevens (Bad Girl From Mars, Slave Girls from Beyond Infinity, among other films) and what adolescent teenager wasn't a fan of Traci Lord's films back in the day? So... due to the cast in this audio it trumped this company's other plays that I was browsing through... notably one of the Anne Manx plays such as Anne Manx in Lives of the Cat.
The play was entertaining. While the effects were not as high as Big Finish or Seeing Ear Theatre, the acting was there. I had expected more of a sci-fi story based off of the description but really it was just a girl out for revenge. Red Cloud (Traci Lords) wants to find out her father's killer. If it didn't have planets mentioned in this, the setting could have been anywhere. So, sci-fi-wise, I wouldn't base your purchase on it. More of a who-dun-it really with a dash of sci-fi.
Brinke Stevens' role was prominent but not as prominent as I had hoped. All the other actors also did a fine job, especially the lead space pirate.
One of the most enjoyable areas I found about this was the tongue in cheek, what some may call cheesy, comedy. The in-jokes, and basic jokes throughout the play I found carried the play.
    Overall good stuff.

A quantum leap in life extension, once thought to be man's ultimate salvation, instead produced over-population, plague and famine...and eventually, complete social collapse. In many civilized regions of the world, man resorted to the unthinkable: cannibalism. In 2828, the United Earthian Foundation was formed to ensure the survival of man kind. A small group of earth-born scientists were launched aboard five large starships and assigned distinct sectors of space. Their mission: find another habitable planet for the continuation of the human race. By 2949, the Helix had entered the orbit of the Planet Vultrex. The mission was proceeding as planned until the crew disturbed what lay entombed below!

I managed to listen to this entire audio book and survived... barely. It certainly won't be getting played again!
    Yuck!
I thought this would be a great radio show type story, and it does have good effects and cast, but the story is set SOOO far ahead in the future and has SOOO advanced humanity to the point where the characters have no down to earth commonality to the listener... I found myself totally uninterested in the the hedonistic portrayals of the future of man. The culture was so out of touch with today's culture that I found the whole cast of characters quite unattractive and alien. Not a good pick.
