    bradbury genius
they don't make 'em likethis anymore. if you love science fiction in any medium you will love this.
    Average
I purchased this because I enjoy listening to old radio dramas like the twilight zone. The quality and storyline of this collection is not as good as the twilight zone. I found the stories predictable and not very memorable. If your looking for something to pass the time or fill a gap, this is perfect. Otherwise, I would skip this one.

Another Good Story by Murray Leinster
Where does Dimension X rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Better than many radio broadcasts. NBC drew from an experienced talent pool and backed it with good Foley artists.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The Captain was a good leader. He had to juggle priorities under stress to try to salvage a multi-pronged mission.

Short Radio Drama Worth the $1 or So
    Any additional comments?
Entertaining short story, short radio program, with some Brownian motion: some twists and turns as Martians and Men mentally fence. The knock on the door changes meaning, from beginning of story to end.

    Pretty good
I listened to three episodes of X Minus One from Audible. The recordings reminded me of my uncle's love for old radio programs. Each episode was different and the character's brought the short stories to life. I would be interested in listening to more episodes.

    Way Station in the Stars
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a good story about commitment and friendship. I enjoyed it very much.
What did you like best about this story?
The story is about people out in the stars that no longer fit in at Earth. Before they can move on, they have to find a partner to go with them into the unknown. The overweight man named Chiron is in charge and he has a lovely assistant who is an albino. She is also looking for a partner. One man treats her like he is interested and then throws her aside for his original partner. Trouble is, the original partner doesn't want him anymore, so this man kills her new partner. Chiron protects his assistant but punishes the man in an unique way.
Have you listened to any of the narrators other performances before? How does this one compare?
Don't recognize the actors in this production.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Chiron does the right thing and protects his assistant, who he loves deeply.

    A classic in context
This is the story of Rhysling, the blind singer of the spaceways. The character and his music (particularly this song) appears throughout Heinlein's "Future History".
I can't decide if I'm mad or happy that they replaced Rhysling's squeezebox with a guitar, but after a lifetime of Heinlein devotion, I finally got to hear some of Rhysling's songs as *songs*, rather than as poems. "The Green Hills of Earth" has always been words on a page to me... to hear Rhysling sing "We pray for one last landing...." produced an expected emotional reaction.
This is a wonderful adaptation of the story-- yes, the audio is a little lacking, but bear in mind that this show is fifty years old. You could probably clean it up, but this is how it was heard back then. I bet someone could adapt this, make it sound slick, and take the 1950's styrofoam cheese flavor out of it... but it would be a shame. This isn't just something that happened to take place in the fifties... this is a piece of 1955-- radio history, science fiction history, and American history.
I buy everything with Heinlein's name on it that I don't already have, and I suspect that after I am done with the Heinlein episodes of this series and the one that followed it, I will probably be checking out some of the others.
    Hokey story by Heinlein.
Is there anything you would change about this book?
It wasn't much science fiction. I wouldn't have done the story at all.
Would you ever listen to anything by Robert Heinlein again?
Of course, he has some classic sci fi. This just wasn't up to his standards.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The actors were fine, the premise was stupid.
Did X Minus One inspire you to do anything?
Not turn on Country music radio.
    Any additional comments?
This was a story about a blind musician. It could have been done anywhere. It was not what I expected and was pretty lame.
    Tear Jerker
    Any additional comments?
I have been a Science Fiction and Fantasy fan since I read my first novel in the early sixties. In the early seventies I got into Robert Heinleins books, and read, among other of his fine books, The Green Hills of Earth, and Other Stories, a collection of short stories. I dont really remember much by way of emotions when I read it back then, but I do remember that I enjoyed the book a lot. In December of last year I purchased X Minus One in audio format from Audible.com. I was wandering around Harbor Freight Tools listening to the story, and had to go to the back of the store, and hope no one saw me crying my eyes out.

Earth was just a Pepple in the Sky!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend it as it was a wonderful adaptation of the book "A Pebble in the Sky" by Isaac Asimov. He isn't very kind to Earthlings in this book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Dimension X?
When the Archaelogist finds out the truth about what the Earthmen have planned for the Universe. Frightening.
What about the narrators performance did you like?
This is a radio play, so didn't notice a narrator.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I hate our arrogance as a people, but am not surprised when authors use it in stories. If a weapon is possible, believe me when I say someone will use it.
    Any additional comments?
Asimov is one of the world's best science and science fiction writers. Don't miss this one!
Great story -- horrible period narration / sound
This is a good story, by a great author, that became a great book. However, the period sound effects are so annoying that it ruins the enjoyment of the story. It has frequent random sounds (thought 'cool' or 'futuristic' at the time) that are jarring in their frequency and volume relative to the speaking.
Skip this version of this audiobook and just read the short story or the book it became.
    Disappointing.
Background music too loud and distorted.
Not at all true to the original story line.
    I don't think I'll get any more from Dimension X .

    Pretty Good Adaptation
???Nightfall,??? by Isaac Asimov, is one of the greatest science fiction short stories ever written. The premise is, what happens on a planet where total darkness occurs once every two thousand years? This adaptation is pretty good, if you don't mind old-fashioned radio acting. This is worth more than $0.95 (or $0.66 for members).
A Classic Radio Drama of Asimov's Nightfall
There are several ways to experience Issac Asimov's classic SF story Nightfall, but in audio format, experiencing it as a fully produced radio drama has its benefits and this is an excellent production.
If you were only going to experience one of Asimov's stories, this would be a great one, though it's unlikely that if you experience this one you will stop here.
A provocative premiss, an otherworldly but comparable civilization that is interesting and an engaging story with tension that builds until the story's climax all add together to make this one of Asimov's most unforgettable works.
The performance quality is excellent too, from the heyday of network radio. A must hear.
Abridged version is too short, buy unabridged.
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
    not the abridged version
Would you recommend Dimension X to your friends? Why or why not?
    Yes-but only the unabridged
What didnt you like about the narrators performance?
Thirty minutes is not enough time to tell this story
    Oh the Drama
Dramatization ruins an otherwise thought provoking book. I recommend reading and creating your own characters ratger than these overly dramatized ones.

Radio story about Man with the Magic Mind!
What did you love best about Dimension X?
The story was imaginative and made you think. What would you do if you had the power to think things into happening? Of course, the military would want you very badly. The dilemna Mr. Barnhouse faces is creative and thought provoking.
What other book might you compare Dimension X to and why?
This was a pretty original story, but I guess there have been some Twilight Zone tv shows that have been similar. Just can't think of any at this time.
Have you listened to any of the narrators other performances before? How does this one compare?
The actors in this play were wonderful, but I doubt are still working today. This is from the 1950's, so I dont' think this is relevant.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When the Professor disappeared and was tracked down by another military. The way he solved the problem was the only solution I could think of and also the up in the air ending always is good!
    NOT HEINLEIN!!!! But good
I bought this because it had Heinlein's name on it-- I saw the Vonnegut reference but assumed RAH had some hand it the adaptation. This does not appear to be the case-- Heinlein is not mentioned at all. But you know, Vonnegut doesn't stink.
If you're looking for post-fifties production values or acting styles, look elsewhere. But it's a good story, and pretty well done for the time.
