Total Fan of Flanagan and Zappa
If you could sum up The Kings of Clonmel in three words, what would they be?
    Exciting, fast, mysterious
What did you like best about this story?
The story moves along at a gallop. The characters are awesome and the plot believable. I love the standard of excellence from Will and the dry humour of Halt. Horace is an awesome dude with his natural abilities at swordmanship and the 'talking horses' ... What more does a good read and listen need?
Have you listened to any of William Zappas other performances before? How does this one compare?
Zappa is the consumate story teller. His character voices are consistent and just how I imagined them in my own head when I read the books.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Halt is a k...! Can't spoil a great story by telling. I was scared and repulsed and satisfied with the justice. If it was as fair as this in real life it would be good.
    Any additional comments?
The series of stories is always moving forward. The surprises are always good. Justice and fairness rule. The animals are very special creatures.
    Flanagan and Zappa ROCK!

This had me on my toes from start to finish.
What made the experience of listening to The Hunt the most enjoyable?
This book constantly made me feel tense and nervous. Everything would seem perfectly calm in one moment and then suddenly everything would change the next moment. At first, it felt predictable, but after a while I was going minute by minute, never knowing what to expect.
What other book might you compare The Hunt to and why?
It shares some elements with other dystopian books, especially "The Hunger Games", but all-in-all, it was a pretty unique experience. It was far more thrilling than THG, though they both focus the element of survival.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
At first, I wasn't happy with the narrator, but as the story went on I came to realize that his style fit the main character's moods perfectly. He was a little dull, but when the story picked up he racked up the suspense well.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I think my most extreme reactions were the couple of times that I was literally yelling in frustration when there was something very bad happening and it seemed like the characters
weren't thinking things through. That was how much I grew to care about the main character. I was literally talking to him, sympathizing with him and gasping when he makes a new realization.
    Any additional comments?
Overall, this was a great story and I can't wait for more.
    You will not be bored!
This well-written dystopian novel will hold your attention throughout the entire book. Sean Runnette does a fantastic job narrating. Can't wait to start the next one!
    wow
just found this book by chance and it was on sale. low and behold the amazing Sean narrated it. great book, love to hate the ending. yojll have to listen to find out. I have to listen to it again.
Loved The Hunt in Audibook form
Would you consider the audio edition of The Hunt to be better than the print version?
I enjoyed both equally but it was definitely enjoyable listening to the story. The Narrator was great!
What did you like best about this story?
I love the complexity of the world. The steps Gene has to take to blend in while bizarre are completely unique to this story.
What does Sean Runnette bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
The creepy factor in his voice is what sold me on the audiobook in the first place.

    Publisher's Summary:
Paul DuPree is working at a soup kitchen in Harlem the summer his father dies, just trying to get by. But Elijah, the soup man, won't stop talking about the social contract and asking Paul questions about heavy-duty things. Paul has never thought about this stuff. He'd rather hang out with Keisha, an unwed teen mom whose basketball skills rival his own.
Then Sly, a notorious Harlem big shot, shows up. Paul is both intrigued and intimidated by Sly and his conspiracy theories, and for once he starts contemplating how you really get ahead in life. As the talk of what-ifs turns into reality, Paul realizes his summer is about more than getting by - it's about taking charge of your life.
    Members Reviews:
    Predictable
Although the book does indeed shed light on an important concept - the social contract - it is far too predictable in its telling. It's shameful that you have to wait until literally the last two pages to get the resolve to the character's dilemma. From an adult standpoint I felt I had gotten suckered into the bait-and-switch. I wanted to buy what the author was selling but I didn't want to have to sit through the pitch.
    Very happy with item and
Fabulous. Very happy with item and service
    I loved Walter Dean Myers
I loved Walter Dean Myers, but this book made me wonder if he was losing his creative edge towards the end of his life. Myers is renowned for creating characters and plots that adolescents will find interesting and relevant, but the majority of this story is neither.
As another reviewer mentioned, the majority of this book takes the form of debate between the main character, Paul, his mentor Elijah, and Elijah's all-too-obvious foil, Sly. Even as an adult reader, I found these debates a bit tedious--I can't imagine how bored my high school students would be. Their insistence on debating the social contract makes all of the characters simply stand-ins for particular ideas with little personality of their own.
The plot, such as it is, is almost entirely in the service of the sociopolitical commentary; plot twists are mandated by what idea of social contract Elijah is currently discussing. The manslaughter that opens the novel and the inexplicable appearance of an Uzi at the plot's climax are thrown in to add a bit of action, but are so disconnected from the plot as a whole that they do little to hold the reader's attention.
Finally, I think Myers does his community a disservice by, in the end, insisting that the social contract is the answer to all Harlem's woes...He acknowledges that life is harder for some folks than others, but shrugs off the idea that something in society might be deliberately unjust or that systemic racism still exists. I like his message education is essential for helping people get out of the situations that they're in, but I disagree that simply learning to play by the rules is enough to lift his community out of the situation that White America historically placed it in.
    Once Upon a Twilight.com Reviews
Walter Dean Myers is a renowned young adult author, who is known for his emotional and powerful novels that truly showcase the inner turmoil of a character. With books like Monster and Falling Angels, Myers really showed his writing power through his expression of words through the pages of many of his other books. With this in mind, I am truly a little surprised with this new book, All The Right Stuff.

    Publisher's Summary:
Karen Cushman's Newbery Honor-winning book tells the story of a medieval girl who works to avoid the marriage her father has arranged for her during her 14th year.
Contained in this program is Catherine's diary - Catherine, called Little Bird or Birdy, daughter of Rollo and the lady Aislinn, sister to Thomas, Edward, and the abominable Robert.
'Begun this 12th day of September in the year of Our Lord 1290... I am commanded to write an account of my days. I am bit by fleas and plagued by family... Tangled my spinning again. Corpus bones, what a torture... Spent two hours embroidering a cloth for the church and three hours picking out the stitches after my mother saw it... Picked off twenty-nine fleas today.'
Catherine's mother wants to teach her the skills of the lady of the manor and to prepare her to be a gentle and patient wife. Her father wants only to see her married off, and profitably. Catherine fancies herself a painter, a Crusader, a maker of songs, a peddler, a minstrel, a monk, a wart charmer... Of all the possibilities, she has ruled out only one: being sold like cheese to the highest bidder.
Against a vivid backdrop of everyday life on a medieval English manor, Catherine's earthy, spirited account of her 14th year is a richly entertaining story with an utterly unforgettable heroine.

If you ever wondered what it might really have been like to live in a "manor"
Few books that take place in the middle ages give you a such a generous picture of every day life. The constant proximity of animals, the crowdedness before the single bedroom made its debut, the odd mix of fun and celebration in the great hall with the fasting and penance that religious life brought, the clear view of marriage as anything but an affair of the heart and the ordeal that child-bearing meant for even those who survived -- all of that is clearly drawn.
Less plausible for me was the casual way Birdy took the bruises and beatings that were administered almost as matter of course by her father and the lack of real soul-searching as Birdy herself harmed others (either truly, as when she set fire to a privy that someone was in or when she thought she had harmed her cousin George and her dearest friend with a charm to destroy their love for one another.) Perhaps the times made that much of a difference (this is a point that is hard to prove or disprove since we have little record of the hearts and minds of these girls and women) but I cannot think of any moderns who would not think a little more deeply about these things. Although she is drawn here as "plucky," Birdy's attitudes are often hard to credit. Lastly, although Birdy is often described as treating illness there is no clue as to how she may have learned those skills. That would have been interesting as it's hard to imagine her listening to a teacher rather than just being sure she already knew the best thing all the time.
    Entertaining and worthwhile
Birdy is a girl ahead of her time. Trapped in well-to-do medieval manorial life, she tries to invent ways to escape both the place and the people surrounding her. Birdy is funny, sarcastic, wry, observant, sensitive toward folks she respects and merciless toward those she disdains. The story, written as a diary, moves smoothly through Birdy's trials and schemes and reactions.

Surrounded by lifeless bodies and growing desperately weak from lack of food and water, death seems imminent. Excellent for young listeners
I enjoyed this book thoroughly. Mudshark isn't only cool, he is a genius with unbelievable capabilities and three small sisters that keep him on his toes. But when a parrot challenges his intellect and his coolness, memory and genius is under threat, he must turn detective to keep his status. This situation leads to an interesting and thoroughly enjoyable adventure. I hope this is not the last that we've heard from Mudshark. Tasso Feldman's narration is excellent. However be warned, if you are too old to listen to this book, you might be misled by thinking it is not so cool as I say.

Enrolling in a summer performing-arts program, of course. Shes bound for the wilds of Yorkshire Dales - eerily similar to the windswept moors of Wuthering Heights.
Tallulah expects new friends, less parental interference, and lots of drama. Acting? Tights? Moors? Check, check, check. What she doesnt expect is feeling like a tiny bats barging around in her mouth when she has her first snog.
Best-selling author Louise Rennison returns with her trademark wit, a hilarious new cast, and a brand-new cheeky heroine who is poised to discover plenty of opportunities for (mis)adventure!
    Members Reviews:
I love these books! Funny and well-narrated.
These books are a ton of fun. I loved the Georgia Nicholson books and have enjoyed the audiobooks for years, but I have to say I love Talullah Casey even more. The stories are more interesting, since they incorporate the performing arts and all the entertainment value they have, as well as the Yorkshire people and countryside. There's a literary component to these books, as well, with Wuthering Heights and A Midsummer Night's Dream central to the stories in the first two books. Add all this to Louise Rennison's great characters and stories and you have very clever, satisfying teen fiction.
Louise Rennison is also a hilarious narrator. Her regional accents make me laugh out loud. She brings an extra dimension to the books that you can't get in print.
Now, the main problem for me is that you CANNOT GET BOOKS TWO AND THREE ON AUDIO IN THE U.S. What the heck, Harper-Collins? I was able to buy book two on CD from the UK, but book three is only available in digital download from Audible UK, and you can't order from them unless you have a UK credit card and billing address. PLEASE get these two for us in the US of A!

Bravo to Meg Haston for Debuting With a Book That "Rocked"...
Not having read a book written for a middle school audience, I bought this one because I was drawn to the premise of the story, but I went into it expecting to encounter lightweight characters and not a lot of depth when it came to actual storytelling.
Aye yi yi. I was totally wrong.
Even at her meanest, Kacey Simon is a character you can't help but love. She's intelligent beyond her years. She's funny and sarcastic. She's also quite a fashionista. (Kudos to Meg Haston for making every character's daily outfits a fun part of the story.) Even though her ego gets the best of her and she says hurtful things, you still want to hang in there with her and hope that she will become a better person (and gets the boy!).
Everything about this story had...style. From Kacey's school to the bakery where her friends hung out to the music Zander introduces her to, the reader gets to escape into this cool, hip world where hard lessons in humility are learned.
There was a lot about this book that I appreciated--the strong writing, wit intertwined with realism, and a cast of characters you can't help but really like (even at their worst). But most of all, I appreciated the reason for Kacey's meanness was touched upon just enough for the reader to feel for her, but wasn't explored so much that you felt like you were being influenced to feel sympathy and excuse her for being cruel.
The story takes place over two weeks. A lot was crammed into those two weeks. As someone who loves music-themed books, I wish there had been more scenes with Kacey, Zander, and the band.
I'm hoping there will be a sequel. I'm dying to know what happens next for these characters. The end of the book did feel like a cliffhanger...
Finally, I read Nickelodeon is turning this book into a new TV show. I read the description of the TV show and was disappointed to learn that there really isn't anything similar between the show and book. I hope those who watch the show will be curious about the book, read it, and enjoy it as much as I did.
    Excellent
This book delighted me for popular people and the mean girls at school never seem to care who they step on to push to the top. I think in the end she gets what she deserves. The main reason I chose this book was because I have braces and glasses. I enjoyed it highly. I think most teens will, too.
    Five Stars
    great writing very interesting
