Merry with My Family, part two of the Family Comedy Trilogy, is the entertaining follow-up to Thankful for My Family. Stuart has been married to Tiffany for five years now, and though they have their issues, he is full of unconditional love for his family. Last time it was his outrageous relatives they had to deal with, and now they're headed on a trip to visit Tiffany's family for Christmas. His stepdaughter, Angel, has grown into a rebellious teenager. Tiffany's parents are divorced but still living together, and their tendency to say exactly what they're thinking leads to some dramatic arguments. Add in a reckless grandfather and a prickly sister, and Stuart finds himself in a house full of chaos.
Torn between love and frustration, Stuart must find a way to work through marital problems while making the best of the holiday season. This comical tale shows just how ridiculous family can get, and yet how lost we'd be without them.

    Merry With My Family
One of the funniest standup performances Ive listened to. It does take place over Christmas , but its all laughs. Reminds me of going to my husbands family get togethers. Everything is new and hilarious. Family is weird territory ,and covered very well in this short story. Lots of bad language, tasteless jokes, and something for most everyone to take offense to ! I loved it .

    Publisher's Summary:
A sparkling new Christmas novel from Julia Williams.
It's Christmas, and Beth King is preparing to spend it in the bosom of her family, doing the same things they have done since time immemorial: arguing with each other, stuffing themselves silly, putting up with Grandad making them watch the Queen, and having the family row by teatime.
Despite having children of their own, Beth and her husband, Daniel, have never quite managed to escape the horrors of the Holroyd family Christmas. Beth's mother, Mary, would never countenance anyone else cooking the turkey. So the family traditions have stuck....
But this year things are going to be just a little bit different. For a start Beth's brother, bachelor Ged, appears to have a girlfriend in tow. A very pregnant girlfriend. And her sister, Lou, whose car-crash love life could be a boilerplate for every soap opera going, has turned up in floods, having been ditched on Christmas Eve - again.
Meanwhile Beth, who has spent years trying to maintain the façade of one completely in control, is facing up to the fact that she has no idea how to deal with either her teenage children or her overstressed husband. And her hitherto successful picture-book career seems to be on the skids as she tries to get to grips with her newest project, a Christmas book entitled The Littlest Angel.
As the family gather for Christmas Day, childhood tensions resurface, the teenagers bicker, and Beth wishes more than ever that she could hide away and forget the festive season once and for all. And that's before her parents drop their bombshell....

Good insight into the importance of the personal experiences of individuals.
That we are so locked into our own version of events is depicted well here. If I were a psychotherapist I would probably just hand my client this book & say " see it from the other person's angle". However it's a pity the author didn't have the ability to write in the 1st person for each character; going in to deeper personalisation of each individuals subjective experience . It got a bit boring the way it was written. Just a monologue of events. The narrator gabbled a bit, would slide unassociated paragraphs into one long schpeel. Poignant pauses, meaningful inflections & really thinking about what she was reading would have added life to the monologue. The narrator seemed as she was just be hell bent on rushing the story through as quickly as getting the words out would allow.

    Sexy and heartwarming!
Would you consider the audio edition of An Ambitious Engagement to be better than the print version?
Yes! I absolutely adore the talented team of Kylie Gilmore and Charles Lawrence and the difference between audio book and written book are like the difference between night and day. The characters are more vibrant and I have to admit that the sex scenes are especially intense when narrated by Charles Lawrence's swoon-worthy voice.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Luke is my favorite character, by far. His nurturing nature and his concern for Kennedy's family situation left a heartwarming glow in my heart and his passion for Kennedy made my heart race.
What about Charles Lawrences performance did you like?
I love everything about Charles Lawrence's narration. He makes the story come alive and I have to admit that the timbre of his voice during those sexy-hot love scenes makes me melt! Every. Single. Time. He's my absolute favorite audio book
    narrator.
If you could take any character from An Ambitious Engagement out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Of course it would be Luke and Kennedy I would take to Sunday dinner at the Marino family home so that I could meet all the wonderfully entertaining characters in this series that I love so much.
    Any additional comments?
I hope this series never ends!
    Fake Engagement, Real Love
    Any additional comments?
Luke and Kennedy are competing for the same client, billionaire Bentley Williams. When Luke and Kennedy meet for the first time Kennedy says that her and Luke are engaged. Now Luke has to follow along. The two of them have such chemistry together that you will be turning the pages to find out what happens next. I would recommend this book.
Being so Ambitious can be overrated.
What did you love best about An Ambitious Engagement?
I loved how Luke finally won Kennedy over. Their fake engagement definitely brings to pass the ultimate ending of all endings.
I was very emotional off and on throughout the book. I enjoyed all of the laughs and the sad parts equally. Luke and Kennedy are truly suited for each other.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I don't think I can honestly say whether or not I preferred Luke or Kennedy more. I got equally irritated with them both. Though if I really think about it, I got a little more irritated by some of Kennedy's attitudes than I did of Luke. I had genuine sympathy for Luke several times.

    waste of time
stupid story about a wedding planner scared to get married to her perfect boyfriend. all of her friends are perfect. she has imaginary problems and is a bit snooty even to her friends... a friend did a reno and her comment/thought was it looked the same just painted a different colour... really after all of the talk and a party about this reno...?? why even mention it in the book. it makes no sense, no connection, it only cast the main character in a negative light to me... but thats just me.
    my fault...
I failed to realize this book was part of a series. Had I started at book 1 I would probably have enjoyed it more. I wasn't a fan of the narrator, some characters fit for her voice others not so much.

    Desperately seeking
What was one of the most memorable moments of Desperately Seeking Sixty-Nine?
The audiobook t was unique and funny! It's a story about one woman's life and her afterlife! About going back to a time that meant the most to you! In Bonnie's case it meant going back,it meant remembering her life with Peter, her husband . Lots of LOL moments..:)
    Hilariously witty and fun!
This is my first audio book and I have to admit, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not only was I able to listen to it while doing menial tasks around the house, but it kept me wildly entertained. Bonnie lands herself in the "in-between" after a wild night of sex with her husband and begins an all new journey. From worrying about her appearance to the fear of her children finding her and her husband's sex toys, the hilarity ensues. Grab this book now for a VERY interesting hour of laughs. You won't regret it!
    Great Quick Read
    Any additional comments?
Desperately Seeking 69 by J.D. Prettier was a great and quick read. I loved reading Peter and Bonnie's story. This was a great story of Purgatory, the place you go when waiting to go to heaven or hell. Only they call it 'The Green Rom'. Bonnie meets her best friend there after her unexpected death. Bonnie goes on a journey to reconnect with Peter, her one true love. She recalls the way they met and their life together. This was a great quick read. I love the authors work and can't wait to read more by her. This is a must read.
    Purgatory was never more fun!!
What other book might you compare Desperately Seeking Sixty-Nine to and why?
I have never read a book like this before. So funny!
What about Hollie Jacksons performance did you like?
I always enjoy Hollie Jackson's performances. She delivers comedy so well.
    Any additional comments?
This was a fun short story of what it's like in the afterlife. Purgatory or "The Green Room" as it's called was an idea so unique and different and quite refreshing than my usual romance listens. It had its sad moments, but for the most part I was laughing so hard. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more by J.D. Frettier. Well done!
    So Freaking Awesome !!!
I just Can't believe how awesome this story is. I laughed myself to tears one minute then was sad the next and the erotic romance? Well, there are no words. You just have to read it yourself. Bwahahaha... I seriously do recommend this to adults only please.

    Release date: 09-27-16

    Publisher's Summary:
When an orangutan goes on the lam, anything can happen. Chasing Harpo is an intriguing cast of quirky characters you'd like to visit with longer. Including the star, Harpo, an orangutan who believes humans are here purely for his entertainment and, of course, to deliver his food. A fun ride and a great adventure for all ages, as Harpo and his trusty servant, Carl, try to outwit the zoo security team, the police, the attorney general, and a gang of drug dealers.
    Members Reviews:
    Clever humour.
It took me a few chapters to really get into this story as itâs not my usual type of book. Once I did get into it, though, I found it thoroughly entertaining. The humour is of the bizarre or zany variety. Black has a way of creating a turn of phrase or a situation that made me chuckle many times. I found myself liking the characters, all of whom where colourful, exaggerated stereotypes (a way of actually challenging those stereotypes by making me laugh at them). They were individuals that were easy to keep apart. This book is entirely written tongue in cheek but with an underlying serious message about our treatment of the environment and animals, especially in zoos. The story itself was a rollicking romp that included a fair bit of suspense without ever taking itself too seriously.
Seeing the world from the point of view of Harpo, the orangutan in some chapters made for a hilarious outside look at us as humans and made for some of the funnier aspects.
I did have one problem that reduced my enjoyment of this read. Black uses no contractions in his dialogue, making it stilted and unnatural. This kept me from becoming seamlessly immersed in the tale. If the dialogue had been more natural I would have rated this a five star.
In spite of that this was a fun book to read and I recommend it for when you need to look at life a little less seriously for a bit.
    An entertaining masterpiece for everyone
Chasing Harpo is a must read. It is very entertaining, well written, and a recommendation for every one of all ages. I especially like Harpo the Orangutan who thinks he is a VIP and the humans are merely "Hairless Not People" brought to the zoo for his amusement. Black's portrayal of the story keeps me entertained from start to finish.
Humorous story of human ape friendship
Once again Alan entertains us with a story with heart and humor. The importance of conservation of our natural resources is made visible by friendship between man and ape and the lengths one will go to keep the other safe.
    An absolutely enjoyable book
Very much enjoyed your latest book, Chasing Harpo. Harpo's portrayal was excellent and NOT anthropomorphizing him was brilliant. At one time or another we've all wondered what our pets are thinking, and you hit the bulls-eye with Harpo. Also got a HUGE kick out of the old couple in the car. Laughed till I cried.
    Keep up the good work.
    Alex M
    Great book!
Very entertaining. I definitely recommend this to anyone who likes adventure.... heck, I recommend this to everyone! I can't wait to read more of Mr. Black's books

    Publisher's Summary:
A bitingly funny, smart, and moving road novel about two hapless lost souls - an alcoholic Vietnam veteran turned best-selling author and his awkward, shy college-student superfan - who form an unlikely connection on the world's most disastrous book tour.
Richard Lazar is advancing in years but regressing in life. After a career as a literary novelist that has ground to a halt and landed him in a trailer in Phoenix, Richard is surprised to find sudden success publishing a gritty memoir about his service in Vietnam. Sent on a book tour by his publishing house, Richard encounters his biggest (and really only) fan: an awkward, despondent student named Vance with issues of his own - an absentee father, a depressive mother, his own acute shyness. Soon Vance has volunteered to chauffeur Richard for the rest of the book tour, and the two embark on a disastrous but often hilarious cross-country trip. When things go wrong, Richard and Vance forge an unlikely bond between two misanthropes whose mutual insecurities and disdain for the world force both to look at each other and their lives in a more meaningful way.
As they reach the end of the book tour, The Grand Tour ultimately becomes a moving tale of unlikely friendship that should catapult Adam O'Fallon Price into the company of such masters of all-American dyspepsia as Sam Lipsyte, David Gates, and Walter Kirn.
    Members Reviews:
Alas not so grand after all
This looked like a promising story about a boozy old cynic and his unlikely friendship with a naive young man. It started off well enough, particularly as the character of the younger man seemed to be someone you could really root for. Unfortunately the whole thing suffers from a confusing structure which includes long extracts from the book written by the main character - with no apparent benefit to the plot. It is also not at all funny despite what the synopsis says. I got about two thirds of the way through before realising I wasn't really listening any more. The fact that this is read by one of my favourite narrators makes me feel bad about not liking this book.
