"Two hours of your time...that's all it will take," says Alex's friend, Detective Milo Sturgis. Delaware quickly finds it's not that simple. What the little girl saw becomes a personal obsession that threatens his career and his life. Snared in a web of evil that stretches from the barrio to an elite island community, he approaches a ghastly secret that makes even murder seem like child's play.
    Critic Reviews:
"A compelling, exceptionally exciting thriller!" (The New York Times)
"Suspenseful, neatly spun, fascinating...spooky." (Philadelphia Daily News)

    I liked this mystery.
I bought this mystery on a whim, but once I started to listen to it I couldn't stop. The protagonist's obsession to solve the mystery becomes personal and that's when the action explodes into every corner of his life.
The dramatic music was entertaining, but also ruined a few moments in the book for me because it cued me to know what was coming next.
The narrator made the characters come to life with his ever changing voice. I liked his articulations of softly spoken females, foreign accents, and high-pitched voices of children.
The book is short, but entertaining and I'm going to listen to When The Bough Breaks again and again.
    Insufficiently Audible
An interesting plot, although the hero has too many wonderful qualities to be believable. The biggest problem is the recording - the reader's voice sounds muffled, and it's often very difficult to find out what is being said.
    Ordinary and dull
The plot was obvious; the surprises non-existent. I was bored. I would not recommend this book.
    Butchered
This book is a prime example of why I normally buy unabridged books. I admire the clear thought process of Jonathan Kellerman, but this title was so badly butchered there was no story line. Whole segments are obviously missing. The book hardly starts before we are jumping to the thrilling conclusion with no clue how we got there. It was a waste of money.
    Excellent!
The first book is always the best. I have rad all of his books and was thrilled when I saw this on audible.

    Audio quality a let-down
Though I'm a fan of these authors, the quality of this audiobook is below Audible's normal high standards. I'd recommend choosing another book. Audible, you might consider removing it from your line-up (or at least seeing to the audio quality).
    Waste of a credit!!
I could not understand the last story because it was taped so quietly and was very muffled sounding. I tried deleting it and downloading it again, but nothing worked. Carol Higgins Clark read her own story and still could not make it interesting. She definitely does not have the talent of her mother!
    Poor audio quality
I was very disappointed as this audiobook was unlistenable. The sound quality is terrible. Preview before you buy.
    poor quality audio
you will have to turn the volume to its max just to hear it
Poor Sound Quality, Not able to understand
I like the authors and stories, but the sound quality and narrative hard to understand. Missed more than half of one story because could not hear or understand the narration.

    Publisher's Summary:
In what Mickey Spillane had planned to be the final Mike Hammer novel, Hammer finds himself up against a clever serial killer targeting only cops.
A killer Mike Hammer's old friend Captain Pat Chambers had put away many years ago is suddenly freed on new, seemingly indisputable evidence, and Hammer wonders if this outwardly placid, very odd old man might somehow be engineering cop killings that all seem to be either accidental or by natural causes. At the same time, Hammer and Velda are dealing with the fallout - some of it mob, some of it federal government - over the $89billion cache the detective is (rightly) suspected of finding not long ago.
    Members Reviews:
    Excellent,as expected
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Stacy Keach made it believable .The writing was excellent and as expected for MS.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
YES, MS IS A GREAT WRITTER,NO DOUBT
    Which scene was your favorite?
MS gives descriptions and character dialog that's not common or seen anymore in todays modern writing and it's fantastic.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Mickey Spillane does Mike Hammer x 89 billion +
    Any additional comments?
This is the way real detective investigations actually work ,or at least how they did or should have. Mike Hammer is a classic and nobody does it better.
The old ones are still the best
If you could sum up King of the Weeds in three words, what would they be?
    Great Mickey Spillane
What other book might you compare King of the Weeds to, and why?
    Any Mickey Spillane novel.
Have you listened to any of Stacy Keachs other performances? How does this one compare?
No but I will look out for more
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Brought back the feeling of illicit reding of Spillane books when I was a schoolboy in the 1960s.
    Any additional comments?
It's a shame there aren't more Mike Hammer novels available as audio books.

    Publisher's Summary:
Freelance writer Jaine Austen has never been able to resist the siren call of an Eskimo Pie, just like she can't resist renewing her romance with Andrew, an old crush. With her bank account hitting new lows, she's also just agreed to write jokes for Dorcas, a stand-up comic who throws her pantyhose into the audience as a punch line.
Not only is Dorcas' act a bomb, she is heckled by Vic, a gorgeous fellow comic. Naturally when Vic is murdered with Dorcas' pantyhose and that same Dorcas is standing over his dead body, the police arrest...Dorcas. They figure it's an open-and-shut case, although Jaine figures no killer can be that dumb.
But when Jaine sets out to find the real culprit, she is distracted by one dating disaster after another with Andrew - and she may not see the dark side of comedy until she faces the business end of a gun and a cold, deadly grin....
    Critic Reviews:
"Fun...Jaine's dogged sleuthing and screwball antics will entertain fans of this fizzy series." (Publishers Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
    Absolutely Hilarious
This was one of the best yet in the series. Not only was it funny, but well written and thoroughly engaging. As always, Jaine and her father get into all types of silly situations that made me gasp and blush with shame. I couldn't put it down. I'm hooked. I bought the next three books and will buy the rest of the series as well. I highly recommend this series. The narrator does a great job with the voices. Even though I don't like Prozac, I love the way Brittany Pressley brings her to life.

Narrator Teresa DeBerry's versatile voice goes from gentle to flashy, bringing out the individual accents of the characters in this mystery. Lee McKinney is starting over in Warner Pier, Michigan, helping her aunt at her shop, TenHuis Chocolate. When the local Chamber of Commerce plans a teddy bear promotion for tourists, they're certain that their chocolate teddy bears will fly out of the shop. But one night TenHuis Chocolate is robbed, and valuable antique chocolate molds go missing. Soon after, the antiques dealer who lent them the molds is murdered, and Lee's stepson is the main suspect. DeBerry deftly evokes Lee's intrepid charm as an unlikely investigator out to get to the bottom of things.

    Don't waste your time
I read the first book in this series and found it annoying, but at least I finished it. This one was worse. The plot is unrealistic- step son from previous marriage runs away because his parents are thinking about getting together and gets involved in murder plot. The story made no sense. It was also very boring. Not could I not get into the story but I didn't find any of the characters interested. I finally gave up halfway through it. I will not buy a book by this author again.
Didn't know whodunit until the end
If you could sum up The Chocolate Bear Burglary in three words, what would they be?

What about Teresa DeBerrys performance did you like?
Her accent... love the way she talks and performs
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not that riveting but really good for every time I got a chance to read for sure.
    Any additional comments?
All of her books will be good, I'm sure. I have a couple more book to read yet and plan to buy more cuz she/'s just so nice to listen too and!! the mysteries on the first 2 books held my interest so I guess that counts for a good listen!!

He watches the women from the shadows. He has an understanding with them; as long as they follow his rules, they are safe. But when they sin, he sentences them to death.
A woman is found dead in a cemetery, strangled and covered in plastic. Just a few days before her death, the victim had received a flower, an unintelligible note, and a photograph of herself.
Detective Inspector Irene Huss and her colleagues on the Violent Crimes Unit in Goteborg, Sweden, have neither clue nor motive to pursue, and when similar murders follow, their search for the killer becomes increasingly desperate.
Meanwhile, strange things have been going on at home for Irene: first the rose bush in her garden is mangled, then she receives a threatening package with no return address. Is Irene being paranoid, or is she next on the killer's list?
    Members Reviews:
A serial killer strikes close to home
I've read and enjoyed all nine books in Helene Tursten's Irene Huss series. It seems, though, that in today's world it's becoming increasingly difficult to find ways of putting the protagonist into a position of danger... without making her/him look inept. In this story Huss finds herself alone in her car in a forested region of Sweden... trying to outrace a killer. For one who is supposedly trained to be on her toes, Huss is utterly unprepared. She doesn't have a gun with her and she forgot to charge her cell phone. On top of that, she and her husband decided that to install a landline in the remote cabin to which she is racing would be an unnecessary expense.
Still, this story of a serial killer brazen enough to attack even the head of the violent crimes unit is one that kept me interested and guessing. From what I understand, Tursten has written one last entry in the series that will be available soon... and I'll be standing in line.
A Good Read, If Not Quite As Good As Some Earlier Entries in the Series
This is the eighth appearance by Detective Inspector Irene Huss, and it is a good solid police procedural. Detective Huss and her colleagues are trying to track down a serial killer who washes his victims and wraps them in plastic after he has strangled them -- the "Package Killer". The plot is full of twists and turns and interesting characters, including a victim who survived the killer's attack. In time, suspicion extends into the police force itself, creating some novel situations for Detective Huss. Meanwhile, her home life continues; one nice thing about this series is the fact that the central character is happily married, not dependent on alcohol, and fairly cheerful most of the time. Why then only three stars? It would have been nice had the crimes been motivated by something other than that standard motive in Scandinavian mysteries -- religiously-linked mania. This is an involving thriller and a good read, it's just not as good as some of the earlier entrants in the series.
... weak and doesn't really hold together necessitating superfluous subplots like the Supt
The story line is weak and doesn't really hold together necessitating superfluous subplots like the Supt.'s love life and a previous drug addict.Mostly the trouble for me was that the villain's movements were never explained. He just sort of showed up.
    a great mystery novel
Another winner from Helene Tursten -- I've read all of her previous novels as well.

    Enjoyed it!
This was a great read and I look forward to more from this author and this narrator.
    Great start to a series.
I am a voracious reader so I'm always looking for new series and finding this one has been a real pleasure.
I enjoyed listening to Narrator Martha Lee while I wasn't reading the book myself.
The story was riveting as well as just romantic enough. Sometimes you don't need the explicit scenes and this story delivers a perfect mystery and romance without extra sex scenes.
Although I did think it was a little unusual they overlooked some obvious suspects in the beginning, I was satisfied with the conclusion of the case.
Leaving more of the story of Emily's husband to be discovered means I can't wait to keep on reading more in the series. I also hope more will be narrated.

Great addition to the series. This is one of my favorites so far. Seems each book just gets better and better! Charlie and her brother take on a case dealing with child abuse and murder. EDEN - 2nd Book in the Series even better !
Read this a month ago and still lingering.
Story based around several key characters and how their paths come together over the years. Some from severe hardship/mistreatment and some from the right side of life. Eden and her brother, and Hades, harsh and evil ... or just victims, and bringers of justice? Frank the detective, weak and human ... or just lonely, and good, and honest?
Builds on the characters and story from the first book, so maybe this fact makes it a little more cohesive and consistent ... or maybe I'm just getting used to the style and the theme.
The backward time jumps sometimes a little disconcerting, but the story slowly grows to terrific build up and tension filled unexpected (to me!) ending. Sometimes spicy, sometimes uncertain, but always drawing you to the next chapter. Great read / great narration. Is there a 3rd book in the series? Read the first book for context and enjoyment. This one steps up.

Retirement is a time for knitting, gardening, and an occasional quiet lunch with friends, according to Kathleen Williamson. Her sister Andrea has an altogether different point of view. When the sisters go to the Canaan Valley to search for paintings mentioned in a document found in an old hotel once owned by their grandparents - paintings that might be Monets - Andrea immediately becomes involved in tracking down a murderer. Kathleen would much rather be looking for the paintings, but she goes along with Andrea, since the victim was their hotel-keeper, murdered just down the hall from their room. The question is: Does the murder have something to do with the elusive paintings?
There are many clues and many suspects, including hotel staff, valley residents, and the mysterious foreigners who come from the Eastern Seaboard for skiing. There are also many types of danger-icy roads, sub-zero temperatures, and a killer who doesn't care how many people die in the attempt to make sure the right ones do.

    This was painful
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
    No one I know
What do you think your next listen will be?
I'm listening to A Victorian San Francisco Mystery now but I think I'll go back to something by Laura Lippman after this.
Would you be willing to try another one of Paula Faye Leinwebers performances?
    Absolutely not.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
    Boredom
    Any additional comments?
I chose this book because it was set in West Virginia, my home state. The performance was so bad that listening was painful. I have no idea what kind of accent Leinweber was attempting for the older sister or the niece; both failed miserably. I'm not even sure if the story was all that bad or if it just seemed bad because of the reading.
    Senior Sisters Solve Sinister Slayings
If the older sister's voice hadn't been so wobbly (trying to portray her elderly status?), the performance would've been better . . . but that said, this was a good listen . . . I'm not so much into the signs of the moon, although farmers have sworn by it for centuries . . . what made this one a worthy listen for me was the historical aspects, the two sisters searching for the lost Monets . . . the setting in the mountains of West Virginia . . . and the cozy mystery . . . well done . . .
    Nice cozy mystery
i enjiyed the stoey but the audio was frustrating. It sounds like the narrator keeps leaning away from the microphone. The sentences srart out strong but get very faint by the end and are hard to hear.
    Just couldn't
    Any additional comments?
I tried but I just couldn't get into this book. I have started it multiple times and just can't part writing style part reading style.
    What's up with her voice???
I couldn't enjoy the book with the narrater sounding like she was breathless for most of the characters. I was distracted With her gasping out the text and failed to connect with the characters. Maybe if I was reading to myself I could've gotten into it. But for free I can't complain to much I suppose. Maybe I'll read it on my kindle and reevaluate at a later time.
