Just didn't hit the mark

I am always amazed at the variety of books in the Dreamspun Desire series. While the claim of troptastic is absolutely appropriate in each case, the way that manifests differs widely.

In this case, the sense I got from this was of a day time made for TV movie. The characters werent terribly well developed and the plot seemed to drag. I wasnt very invested in the romance as I never felt anything like sincere chemistry nor feelings from either MC for the other.

The psychic power stuff was vaguely interesting and the mystery/danger moved the story along, but overall this just didnt grab my heart nor my attention very strongly.

John Solo did a fine job narrating this. He didnt do any interesting accents or anything but he was easy to listen to and added the right emotion when needed to keep the listener engaged.

If youre a fan of melodrama this might appeal to you more than me, but I cant really recommend this for more than a light bit of entertainment.

Nice, easy escape complete with psychics

Extrasensual Perception was a good, lighter book that provided a lively escape for me this week. The psychic element wove perfectly into the story, foreshadowing the excitement but also injecting some mystery as the characters tried to uncover the person stalking and threatening them.

Both the main and secondary characters were interesting and likable. Jack and Chris had distinct personalities and the reader gets a brief, but decent background on them and their families. There wasnt a lot of growth in this book, and though that that fit with the generally lighter feel in the book, it kept me from getting swept away by their story. I did like the way the romance steadily grew between Chris and Jack. There wasnt instalove and it followed a fairly natural progression that resulting in some nice heat. I also found Jacks skepticism about Chriss abilities provided an interesting conflict that created some tension between the two and offered some depth and growth opportunities for the characters. The writing and dialogue reinforced the tone of Extrasensual Perception- steady, solid, and casual. The conflicts kept me engaged with satisfying and well developed resolutions. I think this had the bones to be a really intriguing story if it was longer and there was time for more depth and development to the characters and relationships. However, it also didnt feel half-baked, so I wasnt left bored or frustrated either. The narrator was new to me but he worked well with the book, keeping an even keeled rhythm with good diction.

Sometimes it was unclear, in audio format, if the characters were thinking to themselves or actually speaking dialogue. If they were actually speaking or was beyond trite. Then it sometimes became clear that this was dialogue.

completely unredeemed pilot!

seriously who goes to an elementary school drunk off there you know what to complain about something so stupid when he has absolutely no proof. especially when he had no business being a pilot to begin with I can't even begin to imagine how many innocent lives he endangered doing what he did he should be freaking in prison not pat on the back with the sweet little love interest like the main character I think he has no right being with in the slightest I wish I could just reach in and slap him freaking guy should have just stayed with the ex-boyfriend the two where 2 peas in a pod!

I work in the elementary school and if someone tried to pull that especially someone who wasn't a parent they would go to jail in a heartbeat!!!

Sadly lacking.

Although a short story, it still felt like a Cliff's Note reading. And where was the editing? So many mistakes in gender within sentences. So many words actually left out of sentences. Too rushed all the way through.

Sweet, true love!

I really enjoyed this fun story from Devyn Morgan (as I typically do)! The play on the character names made me smile right from the start and that enjoyment stayed throughout the story. Bonnie and Clyde (smile every time) are definitely opposites but from the start you can see they have something special together. Bonnie is a dancer, Clyde is a cowboy and they have very little, aside from their chemistry in common.

After their initial meeting they strike up a friendship where even though they are separated they each develop feelings for each other. Both men eventually have to figure out whether love is worth some sacrifice.

Once again, I really enjoyed this story - it was a true feel-good read. I love Devyn's ability to put so much feeling into stories, even though they are short. This was such a sweet story that made my heart happy. I think Bonnie & Clyde may be a new fave couple from Devyn!

Review of "Bonaventure and Clyde"

This was a very good read, with totally opposite MCs meeting at a family reunion. Clyde, a cowboy and Bonaventure, a ballet dancer. Both strangers and both looking for more in a relationship than a one night stand. "Bonnie and Clyde" fall for each other quicker than an eye can blink and their journey to a HEA is fun and nonstressful to read. Pull up a 'comfy' chair and settle back for a sweet romantic read.

Loved Bonaventure and Clyde!!!

I really enjoyed this fun story by Devyn Morgan. Bonaventure and Clyde was a sweet tale of opposites attract. Clyde best friend is getting married and has anxiety issues with large crowds, so Clyde does what any good best friend would do, wear the wrong clothes to take the attention off of his best friend. And showing up to an exclusive country club in his western wear when the country club has a strict dress code of suit and tie will definitely take the attention off of his friend.

Amazing NA series and Fabulous Narration

This is the 6th book in the series, but it can absolutely be a standalone!

Austin and Vinny are best-friends-with-benefits. Only Austin really wishes it was more than that. In fact, hes pining. But Vinny isnt responsive and Austin figures some day hes gotta do something about that.

Meanwhile, Austin meets Sean. Sean is a ginger! who models for one of Austins classes. He cant keep his eyes and then his hands and then his mind off of Sean once he actually sees the guy.

Sean is everything Vinny isnt and at first that freaks Austin out but over time he realizes that might just be a good thing.

I fell in love with this series in book one and Amy Jo Cousins hasnt disappointed me yet! I think this is my second favorite in the series but really its a close second to book one.

Austin is a GREAT character and what I love about the writing is how well Amy Jo shows us the progression in his head from Seans a fuck buddy to Sean is something important. Its very well done and oh so hot!

I was very glad to see the communication in this book was open and honest and never the central theme. Yes, Vinny and Austin could have talked to one another more, but I totally understood that Vinny and Austins history sort of precluded that from be a viable option. Sean only knew the more adult version of Austin so he could be a different guy. Someone Vinny never really knew.

Vinnys absence from the story was important because as a reader I didnt want to be attached to him through Austin (especially since the next book is about Vinny and a new guy!) so I was grateful that his part in this story was small.

The sensual times were plentiful but not overwhelming and though I wish we got to see them later in life post graduation I know that the HFN is solid and will lead to a HEA eventually.

(My favorite scene is when Sean makes Austin art supplies when they are out camping Swoooon!)

Cooper North has narrated this entire series and he does so masterfully! I think he sets just the right tone for the age of the MCs as well as the emotions. He gives everyone unique voices and its always easy to know who is speaking.

Ruined by narration

While nowhere near her best work, this story might have been OK but it was ruined by terrible narration. Actually it doesn't qualify as narration but rather a reading that lacked fluency, tone, mispronounced countless words and didn't even attempt characterisation

L.A. Witt managed to pack quite a bit of emotion, angst and hot sex into this quick story.The story is told in alternating view points with flashbacks to their initial relationship. I felt Chris forgave far too easily.

This story has the same issues that I have with a lot of Witt's stories and that's arguments repeating themselves: characters bringing up the same points two or three or more times, no one really hearing it, and then everything just kind of works itself out somehow. I don't really want to read the same argument over and over again. This could've easily been five pages shorter if those had been cut out or lessened.

The ending felt rushed, unexplained. I wanted to know what happens going forward, how things panned out but it just stopped.

Love in the military

Ex equals Is a romantic story about two Navy men who have to hide their love. The book brings to light the turmoil and fear that permeate many stories of homosexual love.

The story gets its title, "Ex Equals" because one man gets a promotion; Thus they are no longer of equal rank. That's when the pressure to hide gets to be too much and one man chooses his career over love. So they go separate ways.

The title applies again when they meet in an algebra class. Remember solving for x= from your old math days! L.A. Witt's cleverness makes the story entertaining, as well as heartwarming.

Trip Warren does a great job narrating and the short story moves at a good pace. It's an easy listening experience that makes you care about the characters and hope they solve their problems. I'd like to hear more books read by him.

Highly recommended!

Best of the Series

In a series that moved at a snail's pace and contained more back and forth than a political campaign the finale hit all the right notes, touched all the bases, fill in the metaphor. Tess finally focuses on herself as both the problem and the solution to the confusion in her life. Though most of the issues are alluded to in this book it would still be helpful to listen to at least the book 1 in this series.

I'll be honest, if I had read this book instead of listening to the audiobook, I probably would have given it 5 stars. I liked the characters, loved the supporting characters, the plot was good, pace was good, development was fantastic. I think it would've been hard not to give it 5 stars. However, the audiobook also had its strengths.

The narrator, Jeff Gelder, had a deep and smooth voice, but with some words he sounded a little nasally and I had a difficult time listening to this book for more than 45-60 minutes without having to take a break. Overall though, the narration was good. Jeff spoke clearly and did a great job of separating the characters from each other without tweaking his voice too much. I would recommend listening to the audio sample. You'll probably hear what I mean a lot better than I can describe it in words and it'll give you a good idea of whether or not you want to listen to his voice for another few hours. Just to be clear, I would definitely listen to this audiobook again and I wouldn't hesitate to buy a book with Jeff Gelder as the narrator, I just know I'll have to break it up so that I'm not listening to too much at one time.

Moving on, lets talk about Justin. Justin was the guy who packed his bags and got the hell out of his little home town as soon as he was able. He worked his ass off and made it big in Hollywood. Justin was under some crazy pressure to the best of the best at all times. He was stressed and spread so thin he was on the verge of snapping (and I don't blame him). But Justin was also honest and straightforward. He came by his success by working his ass off and taking all of the crappy long hours that nobody else wanted. And despite all of his success, he still feels lonely and he knows that something is missing in his life.I was drawn to Justin as a character immediately.

I kept listening to this book because, more than anything, I wanted to know why he left. What had impacted him so much that he would leave George behind with no "sorry," no note, no phone call, nothing. He just up and vanished like nothing had ever happened between them.

I liked a lot of elements of the story, like the slow relationship build while still getting hot sexy times, and getting to spend time with Liam and Jamie (who we first met in Loving Jay), but I really loved Joel's narration.

Joel Leslie brings this story to life! His character voices, the pacing, timing, and voice-over were all absolutely lovely. I adored his voice for Jamie so, SO, much!!

I'm consistently impressed with Joel's voice performances, and this is no exception. His Aussie accents just keep getting better!

Told entirely from Kee's POV, Don't Twunk With My Heart can be read as a standalone. This is a pleasant romance with low angst, passionate encounters, some humor, and a sweet HEA.

So glad we have a new narrator!

So, Loving Jay was the first book I read by Renae Kaye and its what got me hooked on her as an author. We get to see Jay a lot in this story and it was great to see him and Liam still going strong.

In this book we see two gay men dealing with aging wait, you say angst?. Nah, not really. There is some, for sure. A bit more than in Loving Jay. Kee has some scars and Tate does as well, but their issues are treated fairly easily and without a lot of OTT drama. I liked that. A lot.

I really appreciated that these guys talked to one another. For the most part they had their issues but they talked them out.

The physical times are super hot and yet, especially for Kee, at times touching as well.

Its liberally laced with loads of humor and very Australian, but thats what we expect from this author and she delivers in spades.

I had to look up the choreographer Yanis Marshall as he referenced a couple of times in the story and I recommend you do because YOWZA way hot!

I really felt these guys connected and made the other whole. Its a very touching and sweet story, with not a lot of angst, but enough to drive the plot and keep you turning pages.

Can I just squee and squeal and rant about how much I loved, loved, loved this story and audio and leave it at that?

No? Oh. Okay. Well, then. Ummm. Okay...this is awkward.

Nick Stahlnecker is eighteen and wants to experience life. He's smart, but doesn't know what he wants to be when he grows up, has no filter, and has a pretty co-dependent relationship with his best friend Devon. There's a lot he doesn't know, but what he does know is that construction worker, Jai Hazenbrook, is super hot and he really, really wants to know what he tastes like.

Jai is twenty-five and spends three months every summer working back in his hometown and living in his mom's basement just so he can afford to spend the next nine months traveling the globe experiencing life. He's completely unprepared for this weird kid to come into his life.

Nick is everything Jai is not. Nick is loud. Nick has no discernable filter. Hes smart, but hes also scatterbrained. He has energy levels that can only be attributed to a diet full of caffeine and sugar. By rights, Jai should find him exasperating. Instead, he finds him oddly charming.~~

Adulting 101 is low angst, really sweet, ridiculously funny, totally awesome, and I seriously cannot recommend it enough.

The narration absolutely lives up to the awesomeness of the book! Nick J. Russo NAILS the character voices and the tone of this story. He also manages to convey all the texting really well, making them true conversations.

Though there are some slight sound issues throughout the audio (cutting in and out mostly) it wasn't enough to detract from my complete enjoyment of the audiobook.

Bottom line is I loved it and recommend it to everyone!

The narrator did a perfect job of bringing the characters to life. I truly enjoyed every minuet of this book. I laughed and cried as I followed Nick on his journey of trying to figure out how to be an adult. Jai is very patient, and even though Nick annoys him at first, there is something sweet and innocent that Jai is attracted to.
