Read............Faster.............Please........

Because Barry Lyga knocked it out of the park with Boy Toy, I decided to try out Hero-Type. It's basically this story: kid with a secret saves a girl from a masher but then gets painted as a traitor because he doesn't have a "support the troops" ribbon on his car. Tension ensues, his secret comes out, and after a bizarre didactic sidebar on Catholicism, he learns and grows. Blah blah blah.

To be fair, I can't really say whether this story starts out as a hodgepodge and descends into a mishmash or whether the painfully slow reading by the narrator just sucks the life out of it. I suspect both. This is the slowest, flattest reading I've ever encountered outside a middle school classroom. It amazes me that an entire production company stood by while this narrator eviscerated any signs of life the story may have been emitting.

Apologies in advance if the narrator is post-stroke and this recording is a fundraiser for him--- in that case, he did a great job. But if he's an able-bodied fellow, he needs to quit his day job, and anyone in the room who didn't file strenuous objections should be contacted by Barry Lyga's lawyers.

Fun Composition, yet heavily borrowed.

I enjoyed this fun story, but it does need work. Much of the borrowed materials do need always no out very elegantly.

Further adventures of Cadel Piggott

I thoroughly enjoyed Evil Genius, so I was really looking forward to reading the second book, Genius Squad. In this book, Cadel is a kid without a country. The Australian government doesn't know what to do with him. Therefore he is sent to foster care. He moves in with a family who fosters children, and has to put up with a live-in bully. When he's offered the chance to move to a better facility where his special needs best friend, Sonja, can also live, he jumps at the chance. But was it a smart move? Once again Cadel is compelled to guard against the sinister Prosper English who claims to be his biological father. When will Cadel ever find a real family, someone he can trust? Maybe that question will be answered in the third book. I hope!

Having a hard time finishing the series

This series started out awesome. I LOVED the first book. It was immensely smart AND entertaining and crazy and super imaginative. But each subsequent book has gotten less smart, slower paced, less fun, and more...typical. Each subsequent book has lost more and more of the spark that made the first book so much fun. I've been reading this book for a few months now and find it more of a chore to read than "fun."

Crazy Good

okay this book is just phemomimal. The lamguage is eas to umderstand and comprehemd. Jinks has skill whem it comes to telling stories. You will be getting papercuts from turning the page (or you may break the page turm buttom on your Kindle). The story is fast paced and intense (I was at some times yeling at my Kindle ÂNo Cadel! You... [don't wanna spoil the book]). Just buy this book. Its a great read, perfect for people who like a computery narrative full of--- well...you will see.

A good next step, but the mystery isn't there like Evil Genius

I enjoyed Evil Genius, largely because of the sense that I couldn't quite figure out where Cadgel's morals would take him. Having more or less settled who he is by the end of the first book, the second one didn't have that same tension, and thus didn't quite captivate as much. Still, a good follow-up, and I can recommend it (but only after you've read the first book). (It's labeled for young adult, and I guess that's right, but I'm a bit older that that category and still liked it!)

A fun ride

This sequel was a fun easy read. It wasn't quite as good as the first one, which I loved. It was neat getting to know more characters and seeing where it all goes.

Dramarama

Dramarama was purchased for our daughter. This book was on a list as a recommended read through our daughter's school in which she was required to write a report on during the summer. She thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend this book. The seller provided fast delivery, the product was exactly as described, and I would recommend seller to others.

A great read for teen book/ musical theatre fans.

Drama Queen learns life lessons--deeper than it seems

Ever since I can remember, I've been "the performer" in our household. I wanted to be a TV star and singer and be in plays--I couldn't imagine doing anything else (partly because I believed all stageplay was ad-libbing and that the actors made up the funny lines and stunts--but that's another story.) From early childhood I would sing along to my mother's folk and early rock records; they'd ask me to dance, and I'd dance; I read aloud to entertain my stuffed animals (I was an only child, long before computing reached the home desktop) and was often applauded for my clowning. Once I got to school, I took any opportunity to be in puppet shows, talent shows, and the like. I was pretty cute, in fact, until my permanent teeth started coming in.

Serious study of drama didn't begin in school until the eighth grade, though. That was the first opportunity for me to elect dramatics as a course and begin getting into the school plays and UIL contest tours. I was in the chorus of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" in the fall, but mostly that amounted to being on the back of the stage doing backup vocals and dancing. I was smitten with the spotlight and admired those who were up front playing the "Peanuts" characters. I was sure that when I got my break, I'd shine the way they did.

My first actual part was in an O. Henry three-parter at Christmas of that year. Three short plays were to be put on that evening. Of course the highlight of it all was the last play, the one about sacrifice. I can't remember the one in the middle. "My" play was "The Cop and the Anthem," basically a one-man show about a bum trying to get put in jail for the winter so as not to have to suffer the cold outdoors. I played a street vendor who interacted with the star for around six minutes total. I was really going to shine. I knew my part up, down, and sideways, we'd worked out some cool blocking, and in rehearsals I'd been tittered at. (By now I had realized that my looks wouldn't get me the part of the ingenue; I was aiming for funniest supporting actress.)

Opening night, though, I was struck by what seemed to be actual stage fright. As I stood in the wings, my hands began to tremble and my toes went numb. My heart beat like a tom-tom summoning the braves to warpath, and my very vision dimmed. What was happening to me, just because everyone I knew was sitting out there beyond the footlights--and was about to JUDGE ME?

Our star walked onstage, and I realized that he had them in his palm. You couldn't take your eyes or attention off him.

Good listen, will give more a try

This was a good, smooth listen. Great writing. It was hard to tell "where" you were at most times. WHEN did this take place? I know, I know in the writers universe. It really DID NOT HURT THE STORY. I think it was just my mood, the only reason this has 4 and not 5 stars. WORTH YOUR TIME!

This is the sequel to Gingerbread by RACHEL (not Rachael) Cohn. In the past two years since I bought the book, I've called and written audible multiple times to ask them to correct the mistake. A third book, Cupcake, is available in print or ebook, but not as an audio version.

Great series. Much more fun than Holden Caulfield and better coffee. :)

I cannot believe all of the good reviews of this book? Good heck, why???? I think I am a pretty easily entertained reader. I generally enjoy most books, and love many! I really enjoy a lot of young adult lit. But the only thing worse than the story (flat, contrived and painfully boring) is the narrator. Her voice is just grating. And I think much older than the character is. This was truly painful to listen to and for sure, I stopped because I don't hate myself enough to finish.

The main character is petulant and whiny. I love a good strong female character, but nothing about her is authentic to either a real person or the period in which this is intended to be. And Cinderella is beautiful, we GET IT! Holy hell, how many times do you think you can mention how beautiful she is? Really?? Listen, we as readers almost always automatically envision beautiful people playing the roles of most main characters (unless otherwise is developmentally necessary to the plot). Speaking of plot, was there one in this book?

I don't want a refund; I want the last 3 hours of my life back. I feel robbed.

Where does Just Ella rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

I loved this book when i read it in school and i love it even now. I recommend this book for anyone as it has a great story and a great main character who is strong and beautiful, but also smart.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Just Ella?

When Ella decides what she is going to do and does it. she stands up for herself and just gets to work.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

the entirety of the book moves me but when Ella stands up and tells the prince she doesn't want to be with him and gets out of a sticky situation after that, thats what moved me the most.

Is book was amazing. I love Margaret Peterson Haddix already, but having someone like Alyssa Bresnahan read it was amazing!!!!! My first audio book and I loved it!!
