Carrier of the Mark--Above the Mark?

I bought this audio book because it was part of the price sale, and I enjoy YA. I went into this book with no expectations and really next to no idea what the book was about:

First and most impressive was Nicola Barbera just stellar performance: Amazing Irish Accents in female and male voices and even an English accent! Her performance complemented the book so well. Stellar job!

I particularly liked the powers and details of the origins of the powers. In some ways I wish I had been physically reading rather than listening because there are some things about the origins of the powers and what they mean to the couple that I would have liked to read again.

My reading enjoyment suffered from what I think is an unavoidable Twilight comparison. (Girl with Dad moves to new place, Girl meets strange aloof devastatingly handsome boy, girls life is saved by boy in an unconventional way, boy is warned by family to stay away from girl etc) Actually, now that I think about itif you were to take Twilight and marry it with Tamora Peirces Circle of Magic this is probably what you would end up with.

Would I listen to a sequel? (This is what I ask myself to determine how much I liked it.) Well, it would have to have Nicola Barbera... and off.

What made the experience of listening to Carrier of the Mark the most enjoyable?

The voice of the reader was AMAZING! Not only did I know every single character by sound, the reader was just amazing at accents and all the different voices. They were each unique for each character. I LOVED THIS BOOK!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Of course I loved Adam and Megan. They are ADORABLE! I want to know more about Petra. Adam's older brother and twin sister are amazing (I dont know how to spell their names as I have not seen them)! I loved all the characters so much!!

The plot was convoluted and at times downright ridiculous. I couldn't wrap my head around it.

Needed More

What would have made A Need So Beautiful better?

She began the love story in the middle and gave no real situations showing why they are together. The best friend is ludicrous, we don't feel any connection between the main character and the step brother & sister. The doctor's role was a tad more defined.

What could Suzanne Young have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The book was a marginally satisfying read.

The best friend is ridiculous. The author probably wanted her to seem quirky and charming, but she comes across as arrogant, void, and idiotic. I wonder why they are friends.

Overall, not great, but filled the time. Was sympathetic to the main character's plight and the overall idea of an angel's transformation was interesting.

A Need for a Different Narrator

I listened to this story based on my enjoyment of The Program. The storyline was interesting but I had trouble listening because I really disliked the narrator. Two of the characters have accents and the reader did a poor job with them which grated on my nerves. Not my favorite book, but it could have been so much better with a better narrator.

Angelic Writing

I was bored to death of angels. So much so that I've been deliberately avoiding any titles pertaining to them. However, I was drawn to A Need So Beautiful despite the blurb I'm glad that I was! I really enjoyed this audiobook.

Charlotte was a great character who I both loved and hated at times.

AMAZING!

Such a good story lived the story line but I expected an ending where Raven becomes a vampire from thw bite of Alexander but i guess not. i still loved it.

Crave Vampire Kisses

Would you consider the audio edition of Vampire Kisses 8: Cryptic Cravings to be better than the print version?

No, but it is enjoyable. I think Devon Sorvari does a really good job narrating. Yet, reading the book lets you create what the characters sound like in your head.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I just love Alexander! He's showing more of his character and personality in this book.

I like how she in habits Raven's personality.

Mostly... but work interrupted me :(

Kinky moments while you wait for the next book

I wouldn't call this a book, nor would I waste a whole credit on this bite of information. Really, it's three hours, three essays of moments leading up to and after sexual encounters for three characters, and only work the purchase if it's during a sale.

That said the moments were good, and will surely only feed the fire for anyone following the series as they wait for the next book. I however couldn't get past the fact that the author created a whole book out of moments were cretins characters hook up. There could have been so much more put into this, especially when writing about Allegra, and thought I was given a peak, it wasn't enough to justify a book.

I would give it 2 stars, but if JK Rowling or Stephanie Meyer did something like this I know the fans would gobble it up so on behalf of of people who might like this series a lot, I'll give it 3

Ok Series

This series had my attention for quite a while. After the 3rd book in the series, I thought there was a few twists and turns that just took these books off my 'great' list. This one was a nice side addition to the series, but nothing I would say was fantastic. Just decent.

Surprising Interesting and Informative!!!

I thought this was only going to be additional information that was fun to know if you like the series but it actually will give you a lot of insights on the next book. I actually think when the next book comes out, it will not fully make sense without these short stories. Highly recommended for anyone who loves the series!

Intriguing story - romance and mystery

I loved the characters in this book. It starts with a mystery and the angst of being a young woman and continues to adventure and romance. She's a young woman who struggles with following her head and her heart, trying to figure out the world and relationships. Narration is great. I'd love to have the story continue into another book!

Another Bella

Though the narrator does a wonderful job portraying the main character and voicing the various accents, the girl drives me crazy. She is just another Bella, a weak willed girl who will do anything her guy wants, who will trust him despite glaring evidence against him, who will break all her resolutions at the sight of him. Lame. Very disappointing from the author of Kiki Strike, a terrific book about five extraordinarily intelligent, talented, and daring young women.

Love or Coming of Age

Either way this an excellent piece of fiction for both the adult and YA markets. This is one of the few lesbian themed books that was able to overcome the romance genres worst cliches. Okay maybe I'm just guilty of totally over relating to Lee and Marisol. I'm a 19 year old out lesbian who is probably more similar to Lee than I'm totally comfortable with. My big sister Stacy reminds me a lot of Marisol; very strong, extremely confident, and seems to feel no trepidation even when she's encountering a person or situation where some fear might be warranted.

Then there's the character of Olivia who is an advanced version of the high school mean girl b***h that most of the girl's in her class are scared of. Being on the receiving end of attention from that girl created dread to the extreme and created nausea if you found yourself in one of her classes; especially when you were walking in the halls between classes. They always managed to find acolytes who lived to kiss their ...rings. Then way too often they would turn on these girls using information they'd gotten from them supposedly in confidence. Some of the minor characters in the books seemed to be kind of formulaic; particularly her roommate and her mother. The mother in particular is a little too over the top. Although Stacy's dad is sometimes kind of like that for us. Which reminds me if there are spelling or grammatical errors, blame him.

This is a really great listen; even for people who aren't 19 year old lesbians; give it a shot.

No Character Growth

The books idea was good. I liked the idea of going to a private school and then having something exclusive you wanted to work for. I did not like how the main character let herself be used and abused by the popular girls she was dying to be friends with. She had many normal girls wanting to be her friend but instead she wanted to be popular at any cost. She made lots of dumb decisions and in the end got what she wanted but I don't think it was what would really make her happy.
